Optical Trackball - cursor? - Legend Android Development

Maybe this is a stupid question/idea... but is there a way to put a cursor to navigate the homescreen and internetbrowser with the Legend Optical trackball? There is already a cursor when you're copying text in the browser.. Would be nice when navigating big websites, and a cool "computer-like" feeling...
Is it impossible to add that function somehow?

opera browser has exactly this, but I find it annoying, not cool.

IDEA for an app I'd pay for!!!

It would be great with a little app you could use with Opera 9.5 or Pocket IE to use the touch sensitive scroll wheel to scroll up/down in pages.
I know it's used for zooming in Opera but with a little "switch" (option) you could enable it to scroll up/down instead.
Would be awesome to use for fine scrolling pages.
Gets my vote 2
my internet explorer does tht ..maybe it came with the rom im using the latst swift rom and tht happens wen u use the scroll wheel u go down
Try this....
This isn't exactly what you're after, but it's definitely worth a look.
GScroll navigation using the touch area at the bottom of the Diamond!
but that osts money mate

[Q] Weird keyboard request...

I love the keyboard, but i realized i never use the enter key on it...and I was wondering if there was a way to replace the enter key with lets say a little optical joystick thing? Kind of like how the Incredible had the optical joystick or whatever you want to call it....but have it as an onscreen thing.

Smart Keyboard Pro has an option to change it to smileys. You can customize the smiley menu so actually you can make it anything you want. So you can set it up so just press that button to say "Hello" (idk if theres a character limit on it)

I appreciate the respond but i was hoping that it someone could customize and put a joystick or something in there...just so when i have paragraphs of text it will be a lot easier to navigate through and fix words...the size of the enter button is comparable to the size of the optical joystick thing on the Incredible and the actually joystick thing on the Eris...i know its wishful thinking just thought it would be neat.
I am with you there. It is a bit annoying to change letters by clicking and picking that blue picket to move it to the letter you want. Being precise on a captive touch screen is basically non existent.
I believe the keyboard app mentioned above has the ability to add arrow keys. I will check and update.

Smart keyboard pro has an option in the general settings to "show arrows". So as stated above it is imo the best choice.

Yes there is an option to show arrows. I don't use it because I'm pretty used to where to press to get where I want. But i remember a few years ago when I first got into Android, I did need the arrow keys and they did wonders.

[Q] Using S-Pen in a browser?

Can I use S-pen to write URL or search terms in Google, for example?
Only if you enable handwriting recognition in the stock keyboard. You can't write directly in the address or search bar if that's what you mean.

Thanks..I wonder if in ICS handwriting will be able to do that? (write directly on the page.)
The title of this thread made me think... the S-pen could allow the use of a proper hover and click UI if a browser supported it. How great would that be? I know Opera supports this with trackballs/pads and mice... anyway just thinking out loud.
or you can
i don't have handwriting whenever pen is detected enabled on my phone. but i still use pen in search and any where keypad can be used. every time the stock keyboard is displayed, it has a key that has a capital T with a little pen beside it. just click that and the handwriting pad will pop up. to return to keypad there is a icon of a keyboard on the top row of that window to return to keypad.
The T option is that with using the Default Samsung keyboard?

[Q] Smaller onscreen keyboard?

Hi all,
I'd like to get an smaller onscreen keyboard that doesn't take up half of the screen. This would allow me see more at a glance. Currently I hide/unhide the keyboard when I want to see more, but that is annoying because half the time when you unhide the keyboard, it covers up the part of the document you want to edit.
I've found SlideIT keyboard which lets you resize the keyboard, which is pretty cool.
It has a Swype like function as well as normal tap. The swype like functions works pretty well, but it doesn't seem as good as Swype in terms of picking the correct word. I think this is partially an accuracy thing (you have to be more accurate with SlideIt) and also there are quite a few common words that haven't been in the dictionary (but I've been adding them as they occur, so this should reduce over time).
Does anyone know of any other keyboards that aren't as big as the stock keyboard?
I'm in the 15 day trial of Slide IT, so if I don't find another, I'll probably end up getting this one.
thanks,
Rich
Thumb keyboard lets you alter the height and width, but no swype function. I've been using TK for almost 2 years. Developer is very responsive.

I believe swiftx keyboard allows you to change the height and width of keys

Thanks guys very helpful. Neither of those keyboards say that you can resize them in their market descriptions, which is why I didn't try them before.
I liked Swiftkey the best out of the 2. The word prediction is pretty amazing in Swiftkey. I could be incredibly sloppy with my typing and it still picked the right word most of the time.
It does require thumb typing to be fast though, and I realised that most of the time I hold my phone cradled in one hand and then use the other to swype or tap out words with 1 or 2 fingers or the SPen.
I like the word prediction of Swiftkey, but the input method and smaller keyboard size of SlideIT... I'll keep trying both of those for a bit longer before deciding...
Cheers,
Rich
Smart Keyboard is also an option. You can customize it in various ways. Among others you have the possibility to adapt the size of the keys and therefore the entire keyboard.

Thanks. I like that you can get Smart Keyboard to take up less screen space than Swiftkey.
But I think I like the word prediction on Swift Key better.
And I still think swiping is quicker for me, although the SlideIT keyboard is not as good as the Samsung Swype for word prediction and being lenient on how accurate your swipe path needs to be.

[Q] S-Pen button... is it "re-assignable"? (for instant keyboard switch)

Hi
I need to change keyboards not fast... instantly. I have a handwriting IME and a normal [Japanese] keyboard that I regularly need one or the other. The process of lowering the bar, tapping the keyboard and then switching is too cumbersome.
So I was thinking... how useless the S-Pen button is in the current state (for me at least). I don't use any of it's "commands", nor to open the S-Memo or anything. Can it be assigned to something else? It would be great that it could be used to change the keyboard. Like, if I push the button while clicking a text box, it would open the handwriting IME. And if I just click the text box without the button, it opens up the regular keyboard.
Is there any app or any way to do this?
Otherwise, is there something (aside the S-Pen button) that can help in "instant switching" the keyboard?
Multi-ling keyboard will probably solve that keyboard issu, but it's a no for changing the button function.
Hi,
Isn't there an option in Samsung Keyboard which will automatically open handwriting pad is s pen is used?

There is but for some reason it doesn't work on mine. Not only that, but the T with pen button is greyed out on the keyboard.
