Okay. Well I have the CDMA Hero from Sprint. I'm new to the whole rooting thing.
I was on build 1.56, but re-ran the 1.55 build, and now I'm on the 1.55 build with successful root. Super Permissions and all.
My question is, what can and should I do now? I want the lock screen like the Samsung Moment has stock. With both sides working. Unlock and sound. Also want the text and time. All of it working like it came stock on the phone.
Anything special I should install, or good roms that look professional (not sports or weed ones.).
Welcome to the world of HTC Hero CDMA modding
1) If you want a ROM made with speed, stability, and classic HTC look as its priorities then check out nfinitefx45's Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK Deoxed
If you want another stable and speedy ROM but with the classic vanilla Android look, take a look at Darchdroid
Fresh Rom is another popular favorite.
2) You can remove Stocks, Nascar and other useless apps...
3) Run wireless tether. Pick 1.6.0 as that has been reported to be the most stable version for our specific phone
4) If you get Fresh or nfinitefx's ROM, get Darchkernel for fixes in call receiving, wireless tether, overclock, and optional undervolt for better battery life
5) Get SetCPU to control CPU speed and tweak for better battery life
6) Regarding the vanilla lock screen: Darchdroid comes with vanilla lock screen just the way you want, not sure if the background is transparent or not though. Fresh Rom also has the vanilla lock screen with text and time, but I'm pretty sure the background is transparent. If you use nfinitefx45's rom the only way I know of to get vanilla lockscreen is a transparent version without text and time.
Hope this helps!
Thank you. Helped a lot.
I look forward to learning more about modding, and more that I can do with Rooting.
Danger bro no love huh lmao

I used Fresh's rom. Everything is running smoothly.
I have the Vanilla lock, but it's incomplete for me. I'm missing the text. There is no Sprint, No Time, No Date, and it's Transparent.
I'd like to have a background and all that text. Other than that, everything is working smoothly.
Also as for a Recovery, anything special I should have? I took a Nandroid back up (with fresh installed) before I installed the vanilla lock screen.
I just rooted a few weeks ago. If you want a rom that looks awesome and is already under/overclocked Buufed from crunchysoft is pretty kool and it has the lock screen your referring to with and the data on it.

IMO Buufed's themed-out look won't meet his requirement of "looking professional."

What is the best (most painless) way to go from donut to eclair and keep your apps and data?
Do you just have to redownload all of them or is there a way to back them up such that you can access them in the new build?
I know you can't restore data from a backup made in a different version, but is there any other way?

What is the benefit of going to Eclair? I know Eclair on Vogue has the following issues. Correct me, if I'm wrong.
cons of Eclair:
no camera
unstable and slow
battery drain

1. correct, no camera
2. May not be as fast as donut, but it is fast and stable
3. Pretty close to the same battery life for me, good for a couple days with light use
the benefits I see are more eye candy and the facebook integration is pretty cool, along with the slide lock screen and live wallpapers and whatnot
I have mssmison's 2.1 on nand and myn's donut on my ext2, its pretty cool to be able to go back and forth, plus you can show it off to your friends if ya want
all in all 2.1 is catching up as mssmison is doing a great job

That's promising.
I have a question. Does voice command fully work on mssmison?
For example, will "navigate to home" work?

There is another entire thread dedicated to flashing the OTA radio file. It's an entire process, especially if you are rooted already. You have to unroot to do it.
would it be possible to get the 3g ap hotspot so I could install it? It actually works quite well.
so... as with every other 2.2 rom i've tried, i'm getting the same problem with this one.
my contacts sync, but they don't show up in the "people" app. they appear in the phone app, but not the actual people app.
can anyone help?
Im trying this now. What do people think of it so far. I was very please with pmf's work when using his 1.1.
"Call To Answer" Screen is still HTC
Just flashed this ROM. I must say, it is very fast and responsive. Great work!
I have one concern:
The lockscreen is Android 2.2 vanilla. However, the "slide to answer" screen is still the HTC screen. When testing, the screen was off. As soon as the call came in and the screen turned off, I saw the vanilla lock screen flash for a second (I believe it was the stock unlock screen, not the stock "slide to answer" screen) and then it was replaced with the HTC slide to answer screen.
Is anyone else having this experience?

Please add support to ROM Manager! I love being able to install straight to my phone while bored at work!

Thanks. Yeah this is because the phone answer lock screen is controlled by the HtcPhone.apk, which is used in this ROM.

I haven't had issues with it, other than the first sync can take a while to show up. I find that firing up FriendStream can sometimes force it to sync.
Is MIUI is worth installing and using it as main OS for the N1?
For day to day use, is it reliable?
It looks very nice and I'm tempted...
I've been using Geo's rom for a while and it's been stable.
Miuis rom is very stable for everyday use. Install Rods version its alot better than the stock version in my opinion
MIUI is the best ROM ever! Specially the new version... Be sure to try it.
I like it but i still prefer CM!
I just wish some of the features in that ROM would go into CM I'd help do that but i'm not a dev
So I should go with Rodz version? But he's using .5 and the lates is .12, as far as i know. Is it easy to update the MIUI rom within the rom or do i have wipe and reflash everything from recovery?
As with most Roms, wipe and flash. Used Rod's MIUI for awhile, was very happy with its speed and stability. Still always tempted to go back.
I use Rod's MIUImod with ADW.Launcher. It's brilliant.
Few days ago have flashed miui...
its the best nexus custom rom i ever seen!
I tried Rod MUIU and it is nice and quick, there a few things I personally didn't like which is why I'm back at MicroMods 2.10 Sense.
remember if you don't like the launcher you can always use LauncherPro or ADW
Yea I use the stock miui detox with launcher pro plus and Rom I used. I don't care for the stock launcher to many apps on the screen I'm to lazy to put them in order lol.
Yea I switched from MIUI to the latest CM rom. MIUI is ok but a few things kept me away.
The Lockscreen is cool but you can't change the background unless you use the stock iphone launcher
I don't care the the "iphone" launcher
The drop down menu has data tools, which is awesome, but CM has them at the top and has the ability to put only the ones you want on there. The MIUI puts them at the bottom, so I constantly kept activating them while managing the menu.
The new phone and messaging app are odd. While I liked the ability to SMS multiple recipients, it would tend to not display all of my contacts and I would have to manually select them from my Contacts list.
The Contacts list would not sync with Facebook automatically. You have to a manual sync from a "Facebook Sync" app. My gf actually started a fight over why her contact didn't have a profile picture on it (she thought I was "hiding" her).
Meh. Rod's version is the way to go if you want MIUI. But really once you put Launcher Pro on top of any rom, it behaves the same. I just like the on-the-fly theming options and drop down menu data toggles of CM's latest.

Lel, nope. You can change the lockscreen's wallpaper regardless of your launcher.
I'd say it's worth it. Obviously CM6 has some advantages over it, just as it has some over CM6. It depends on your needs. For me, the smoothness and more importantly battery life--along with the slick lockscreen--are enough to keep me using it as my day-to-day ROM. Stable, fast, works.
Not saying it's the right ROM for everyone, but it does have a lot to offer.

1. You CAN change the Lockscreen background while using launcher pro.
(charging animation is sweet on lockscreen)
2. The drop down menu data tools, some actually rearrange based on how much you use them, so the most used functions show up in the visible area and then you can just slide to use the others.
3. It has built in screen capture feature using menu and volume down at the same time.
4. It gets updated every week with new features and fixes.
5. It has built in apps2ext, if you have ext partition.
6. It has built in CPU control toggle for battery saving when needed.
I used Miui for a long time. I went from the first release on up to 11.05. (Stock, never used Rod's)
After all the uses I have to say it is a fairly stable and unique version of android,
I give props to the Miui team and dj and mobius and the bunch.
But, in the end it came down to 'function over form' for me.
Basically there is no rom that has as many features as CM.
And with a few tweaks you can make CM visually identical to stock.
The look of stock is important to me.

Hey All,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm tired of the version 2.1 stock ROM for the Sprint Hero. Even when its rooted and I clean out all the bloatware its still sluggish, buggy, and it has lately been aggravating me to no end. I want a nice lightweight ROM that has everything working (radio, wifi, data, etc.) but I don't want the HTC Sense UI if possible. Also, if it could have built in wifi tether (because all the apps I've used on the stock ROM tend to lock up or reboot the device) that would be great. Also, Apps2SD would also be nice but not a requirement.
Can someone recommend a good one?
Thanks in advance!

you are posting in the way wrong section this would have been better suited in general or Q&A
but my recommendation for you would be CM7 the official release for the HeroC, its stock android with some flavor. good battery life, apps2sd supported via built in manager (added in 2.2). built in tethering in the device settings menu (AOSP 2.3 feature) and last but not least it's AOSP based so SenseUI is nowhere to be found
I have tried all and in my mind the fastest has been hero deck. I even turned down my MHz to 691 when I use to have it at 768.
Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
Deck's rom is fast....No doubt, but.....if you're looking for a blend of speed and stability I'd listen to ThoughtlessKyle and go with CM7. That is what I put back on my Hero for my son to use.

I'll definitely look into both ROMs. Thanks for the help!
My stock rom ran into issues the other day. Force close loop on senseui or something. Basically required a factory reset so while I was at it I decided to put a new rom on. I went with CM7. Had done a bunch of reading in the past and everyone was using CM6 then. Its nice. The one thing I didnt like is the voicemail. Getting it setup to download my voicemails to the phone was kinda a pain and the annoying texts from 9016 get old quick. Not sure why there is no solution for this. And running a separate program to block messages from 9016 isnt really a solution in my opinion.
I hear that deck rom has voicemail working with no additional installation/config necessary and none of the 9016 text messages so I plan to give it a try.
I've unlocked, installed CWM, rooted it, installed busybox via the busybox installer from the market (which requires root), however titanium tells me that the SU command fails and I should attempt to re-root my device
Where should I go from here before I break something?
Thanks
UPDATE:
Never mind, booted into recovery, reinstalled VIVID_CWM_ROOT_VER2.zip all is good
had the same drama at first nice fix how are you finding the phone???
So fair I am impressed with the speed, I have not used 4G yet, its not available in my area yes, but its light years ahead of all the other handsets here even on 3G.
Physically I was expecting it to be heavier, and coming from a HTC HD2, the lock and volume buttons are perfectly positioned so that I accidentally press them all the time as they are in opposite of what I am used to and its the same width but 1 cm taller, which means I can no longer use my leather belt pouch I miss having a physical hangup and separate physical answer key which through the circumstances of its birth (WinMo 6.5) the HD2 was blessed with. Build quality on the MicroSD card slot is lacking, it could have been made better. I also miss being able to hot-swap the microsd card as I could in the HD2, instead I have to pull the battery which is annoying.
Software wise, I gotta say that I am REALLY missing MIUI, Sense is very pretty but I find it is not really what I am looking for and its quite clunky in comparison to MIUI... and I hate how it squashes down widgets for no reason at all. I will probably play around with AWD or LauncherPro in the meantime, I'm also not really a fan of the ringpull unlock screen but I'm sure I will get used to it in time. I noticed that the VIVID and RAIDER have sense 3.0, where as the Velocity has Sense 3.5... maybe ROM people can yank a clean build from the Telstra build along with teeter
BlueTooth - Works Great, Syncs INSTANTLY with my car, never skips on A2DP, works great.
Wifi - Works fantastically
Games work great on it, I'm cranking away with my PSX emulator (FPSE) and GTA III runs good, I was originally disappointed it didn't run better but after I reduced the draw distance in the game settings it was good, I think I had too many apps running as well. I installed ATK to take care of that and the phone is much better after I have ATK autorun every hour and clean up background apps.
Battery life I can't tell because I have been using it almost the entire time and it melts through it pretty fast, I'd give it a week of normal day to day use before I really give a verdict on it, I do have the screen at 100% brightness all the time which doesn't help, and I already have an extended battery in the mail. I sync 2 gmail accounts and an exchange account, all in push, and I just leave BT and WIFI on all the time as I like just jumping in the car and it works, or getting home and already being on the wifi.
Overall I give it a 6 out of 10 so far, with CM7 or CM9 and MIUI that would quickly elevate to an 8 out of 10, with all the space inside the phone, the size of the standard battery is disappointing, they could have put one almost twice the size in there if they arranged the sim and microsd slots better.
The biggest problem is that I was really spoiled with the HTC HD2, I'd say 90% of my gripes with the phone are with sense, I find it ugly and clunky and I wish HTC had just left android alone... I don't have an issue with gingerbread, I haven't used ICS yet and I'm in no busting rush. As soon as the ROM community grows up for this phone it will be amazing, until then its kinda meh.

if rooted, you can also go into /system/app/ and rename HTCLockscreen.apk to HTCLockscreen.bak and it will remove the ring lockscreen, and put it back on the old sliding tab lockscreen (froyo/gingerbread stock/aosp lockscreen)

Cool trick. It doesn't break anything? I remember doing something similar on my Desire and I couldn't dismiss alarms (ugh) or answer calls, I'd have to do a battery pull.
(also, I think you need to be rooted to disable the stock lockscreen in WidgetLocker, so maybe it's essentially doing the same thing; alarms/calls work fine on my Vivid with it disabled, so maybe I'm answering my own question)

i did it on my mytouch4g and had problems dismissing alarms, but i got gentle alarm, so i didnt worry about it any more, lol
havent done it on this phone yet
i take that back, i did it, but i didnt run any alarms or test any calls, so i dont know if that is broken or not
Ah yes found it, settings > advanced > disable stock lock.
it warns that this will make any of the physical keys wake the device, I'm cool with that
Yeah, I actually like waking my phone with the volume buttons sometimes, depending on how I end up grabbing it in my jacket pocket. And it's not like they unlock the phone; I have WidgetLocker set to only have a 15-second timeout, overriding the normal display timeout, so I'm not too worried about accidental battery drain.
