So question I have is:
Now that we can root the Nexus One without unlocking the bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736271), what are the chances people who still want to stay with their STOCK ROM's can get some Theme lovin'??

Hello all,
I just come from the HTC hero and I bought the nexus one. My hero was rooted and it was nice, I ve seen tutorials to explain how to root the nexus one, but it seems it breaks the warranty. Is there a way to unroot the nexus one as we could for the htc hero?
If not, will there be a way soon guys?
Thanks for helping me, as I d lke to root the nexus one, but loosing the warranty is a big problem....do you have feedback on rooted nexus one sent to warranty?
I may be wrong, but i don't think that rooting breaks the warranty. It's unlocking the bootloader that breaks the warranty. That's two different things.
And as far as i know, it's quite easy to unroot, but it's almost impossible to relock an unlocked bootloader.
Please post in right section thanks.
mmm; ok, but can we install custom roms without unlocking the bootloader?
Nope, don't think so
You cannot install custom roms without unlocking the bootloader, and u cant unlock the bootloader without breaking the warranty. There are quite a few threads on this already, try search next time
Confused
So it is possible to root the nexus one without unlocking the bootloader? If so how..?
To root the phone or install a custom ROM, u need to unlock ur bootloader... which also means goodbye warranty
in order to root your phone you must unlock your boot loader first. so when you unlock your boot loader to root you lost your warranty.
You guys all say "goodbye warranty" as if HTC isn't replacing/repairing rooted Nexus's... This alone has been steering many people away from rooting the N1. I know 2 people that had rooted N1's and they both got their devices replaced by HTC and that doesn't count all the people posting here that have also been successful even though they have rooted phones.
I have rooted/unlocked my bootloader. Then I found that I had the dust under the screen issue. Contacted HTC they sent a replacement. I sent the phone in, restore to stock besides the bootloader being unlocked. They received it, inspected it, and that was that. My case was closed with no questions asked.
Hey Guys
I have bought myself a stock unlocked AT&T version of the Nexus one
It has never been rooted and I am on FRF85 at the moment (that was upgraded from EPE54b to FRF85 using the manual update method
Questions:
1. Does unlocking the bootloader mean you basically sim-unlock your phone?
2. If I have a stock unlocked phone, do I need to unlock the bootloader to root?
3. If I dont need to unlock the bootloader, when/if I decide to root my N1, will I lose warranty?
I guess question 3 is dependent on 2 above
Thanks
Unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with sim unlocking your phone, these are two complete separate things
1 no. but I think there is no locked n1 available, so it is unlocked quite sure
2 maybe, depends on your build number. I think you have to unlock your bootloader with the att version
3 no

regarding rooting without unlocking bootloader, see the sticky in the nexus android development section
@flybyme - thanks for your reply - i had a look at the sticky thread you were talking about rooting without unlocking the bootloader.
1. what's easier? Rooting with unlocking the bootloader or without the bootloader?
2. What's more fool-proof so-to-speak?
3. What would you recommend?
Sorry for so many questions but thanks for reading
1. With unlocking the bootloader is alot simplet BUT you will loose your waranty.
2. Once either process is complete there's no real difference since you can use the custom recovery in exactly the same way to flash any further roms.
3. I would suggest _without_ unlocking the bootloader. At least give it a try, the worst that can happen is it doesnt work.
Has anybody figured out how to root without unlocking bootloader ?
I just want root for few apps , I don't care about mods , custom firmware or nothing like that .
AW: [Q] Locked Bootloader Rooting
No. wait.
Hey everybody,
I am on official JB and want to root. Will there be a method at some point to root it without unlocking the bootloader? What do the experts think - I know you cant look into the future, but what are your experiences from other phones, is it very likely that there will be sth. or not?
The other method would be to unlock the bootloader. So do you expect that the bootloader logo can be exchanged again at some point?
Thanks
Thorsten
Since root has been achieved will this aid in unlocking the bootloader? Did it ever happen with the S5?
Root and bootloader unlock are two very different things tbh. Just because we have root doesn't mean it'll help unlock bootloader. Only thing is that maybe the devs attention will be turned to BL now that they don't need to worry about root.

Ok, I didn't know if having greater access to the system would help with the bootloader issue. Thanks!
Finding root gives you elevated access to the file system. To get a customer recovery, the bootloader must be modified (which requires root to access). But, to modify our locked bootloader to put on a customer recovery, you'll needs it's encryption key. Without it, no changes can be made and the 'chain of trust' is broken and the phone won't boot.
