Is this normal?? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay after flashing my device to froyo 2.2 JP2 my device will always go to the recovery menu after I flash...
Also I cant seem to revert back to non froyo roms... JP1 JP2 and JP3 all work...but I have to wipe the device and clear the cache from the recovery menu that pops up now after I flash to get the rom working.

[Q] Having troubles to install CWM in 2e

Hi. Since I hace issues with my kernel (going from a speedmod older than k9 and corrupted... to a vodoo whn trying to install darkys 5.1) I decided to install a stock rom from 2.1 in order to clean the mess I had.
I flashed 2.1 with odin and when started recovery 2e I made a wipe data/factory reset and also wiped cache partition.
But now when I apply sdcard:update.zip (the update.zip from CWM) my phone fails to do it. I read it was ok, you just have to make it twice(like I've done in the past) and then it should work but now it isn't.
Whenever I apply the update.zip my phone reboots, appears the galaxy s screen and starts again the recovery 2e. I've done it several times and is always the same: the phone reboots to the galasy s i9000 screen and starts recovery 2e again.
Please help me!

[Q] flashing bumbles.. boot loop (fixed..)

NM i fixed it.. i flashed an eclair rom initially and that didnt wanna work.. so a froyo rom fixed it...
===============================
so i just flashed my first rom a few days ago and it went well.. now im stuck in a boot loop and cannot get into recovery, but can get to download mode..
steps i took to frustrate myself with this problem
flashed speedmod k12s kernel from base stock froyo
wiped everything and installed a cooked rom from docs kitchen and it worked fine
flashed a few but the last one i made i forgot to select a launcher so i was just staring at a black screen.. so i couldnt mount usb
for some reason i cant access my internal sd from CW recovery menu which i had no idea why so i flashed JH2 eclair to get the launcher using ODIN
that just sent the phone into a loop now and i cant even access the recovery menu.. only download mode..
i tried to reflash speedmod kernel and still the same flashing with no recovery menu available..
are there any settings i should use with odin that im missing? i really have no clue what else to do.. thanks guys in advance

[Q] [i9000M] Installing CWM/2e Recovery

I have an i9000M running UGKG3, rooted. I still have the stock kernel and have no modifications. I'm trying to get a CWM or 2e recovery that will let me install update.zip files that aren't signed.
I have tried kernel after kernel, getting bootloops with every one.
I tried signing the CWM update.zip myself but it only managed to remove one of the two errors I get about it not being signed in 3e Recovery. I tried signing it multiple ways, nothing.
I tried replacing some of the recovery files with Root Explorer, to no avail.
I also tried flashing JVQ and JVR so I could use CF-ROOT, but they didn't even get to the "Galaxy S" boot logo before it looped.
Does anyone have a solution?
Anything that works, really. A signed update.zip, a i9000m compatible kernel, a successful replacement method, anything that will install a usable recovery.
Thanks in advance,
Getinaf
I'm in the same situation as you. I have UGKG3 installed, with the rooted stock kernel via Odin. I have tried almost every custom kernel I can think of, and they all boot loop. I've tried Rom Manager to install CWM, and it doesn't work either. I haven't tried any JVR roms yet, but from what I read they should work, so I'm surprised you're getting bootloops there too.
I guess there is something different with gingerbread compared to froyo that makes the kernel more picky. On froyo I had the stock JL2 rom, and was able to install the speedmod k13e kernel to get CWM without any problems at all.
I guess we'll have to beg and plea for a dev to make a modified KG3 kernel with root and CWM recovery. I would be happy with that. I don't care about lagfixes or any other mods to the kernel. I just want root and CWM
I totally agree, that or I'll try and cook us one. I hear there are tutorials for things like root and cwm. I'm really actually trying to install juwe's smart rom, and for the life of me nothing is working. I'm sure there are more people like us out there too, it will be worth it to find a solution.

I am very tempted to make own kernel. Nice and simple: root, and cwm. That's it. Now to find a tutorial
has anyone figured this out yet?i'm in the same situation...
Just flash this kernel on top of whatever you have, it'll work... trust me!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
I've been running that kernel for months back then when I was still running official Gingerbread KG3 from Bell and it's the best one there is.
Installation steps :
- Download kernel
- Start Odin, make sure Kies' services are all shut down
- Select Kernel as PDA in Odin
- Put phone in download mode
- Connect through USB ... Odin should detect phone
- Hit start, reboot phone
- Enjoy, you're done!
If you have problems like FC after that:
- reboot to recovery
- "wipe cache"
- Advanced menu --> Wipe Dalvik cache
- reboot (be patient, it'll take a few minutes to reconstruct dalvik cache)
- you're done!
Did all this and nOw in a boot loop. Can't reflash as debugging is off. I flashed first tIme frOm mObile Odin ?
What ROM did you have installed when you flashed Semaphore kernel?
Please help

[Q] Help with Clockwork Recovery

I installed ROM manager and flashed clockworkmod recovery but when I hit reboot into recovery it goes into the normal android recovery screen. I also tried doing a backup of my old rom but it just reboots into stock recovery screen and doesn't actually do the backup. I tried installing ROM from SD, same thing. I've tried different recovery versions (2.5.1.1, 2.5.1.2) but they all do the same thing. I'm rooted and it has superuser permissions, so that's not the problem. I have ROM manager premium. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling ROM manager. Please help.
Try installing it through stock recovery. (reinstall pakages)
What firmware you using?
rom manager is only good for eclair and froyo
there isnt a correct update.zip for the captivate on gingerbread.
if on gingerbread flash a kernel with CWM (clockwork) built in.
if on froyo/eclair you must select *reinstall package* from android recovery TWO TIMES in a row!
except FROYO has recovery3e also.....it will not allow unsigned update.zip files.
Ok. I'm on Froyo 2.2. Stock firmware. Trying to get either Fasty II or Cyan. First time doing all this. All this started with the GPS problem... (I know, I know. There's a thread for that.) Plus, I am interested in other ROMs. Just praying I don't kill my phone in the process.
you need to look at Odin/heimdall a CWM kernel, or fixing your recovery 3e to accept unsigned zips
^That. Fasty II needs Gingerbread bootloaders
OK. Well, really, I think I'd like to go Gingerbread. I dunno. There's too many to choose from. I want to get CWM working first. Where's the forum to install manually? There's so many places to look...
If you are going to GB flash a leaked stock first that contains boot loaders. Does your phone take well to 1 clicks?
Augh! I used Odin to flash the kernel. I had a temporary success. I had cwm up and it backed up my old rom. I rebooted twice into cwm. Third time, it reverted back to old android recovery. Like I said... Augh!
-Typed while driving on my Captivate- []
Flashed it again. Got CWM back up. Now, moving on to figuring out getting gingerbread. Any tips here are greatly appreciated as long as they make sense.
Also, what is 1 clicks?
Odin 1 click that will flash a leaked stock rom like 2.3.3 KF1 or 2.3.4 KH3 or 2.3.5 KI2. If they include Bootloaders you can just flash a cwm kernel and ready to flash any rom you like.

roms fail to be install and turning back to cmw

hello everyone.
I have i900 for almost a year and i have a weird situation. now i'm with JVK stock rom cuz is it the only rom i managed to install.
today i made some stupid thing ( i managed to ruin the "ics onecosmic", after wipe cache and davlik) and the phone turned into bootloop.
i flash a JVK stock rom, and after rebooting, flashed CF-ROOT JVK.
i entered into cwm, did wipe data/factory, cache and davlik and flash CM7..
after a while the installtion stop and the rom went in bootloop. that happend to me also with ICS onecosmic. i tried also build11 and again.
when it try get inside cwm again the phone, i saw the the installtion faild becouse it cannot format data/data and and another folder.
so i tried to install JVT stock rom and again, after rebooting it happend again.
only JVK room stock is working now. this is weird. someone have a clue ?
thanks.
