During a Rom swap I wiped everything including battery stats. Now my battery won't hold charge and its been reverse charging a lot lately meaning while its on the charger it still drains. I'm thinking it has something to do with me wiping the battery stats but I'm not sure. If anyone has ideas or solutions it would be greatly appreciated.

When wiping battery stats, from what I understand, you should only do it after charging fully and let it completely drain until you out it on the charger again. Try turning it off and letting it charge until green led then wipe stats again and don't charge it until it turns itself off.

I am not new to the phone and I have done battery calibrations many times. I used MIUI for a long time, then went to Pinnacle 1.1. After a few weeks one night after fully charging, I unplugged the charger and it dropped to 70% instantly. I could then plug the charger back in and it will not move from 70% for a while, then it will register 'fully charged'. Removal of the charger again will make it drop to 70%. Turning off the device and charging will show the green battery about 2/3 full, but not registering full. I then went back to MIUI thinking it was a rom flaw, but this problem has persisted. I am right now charging on stock JF6 with the same results. If this is indicative of a defective battery, has anyone seen this before? The battery is 14 months old.
TL;DR - It seems that the battery wont charge past 70% regardless of ROM/Kernel.
I had a similar problem but it was because I wasn't using the charger that comes with the phone switched chargers problem was solved.

I drained the battery last night, and then charged while off fully. The green battery icon went to 100%, and as soon as I turned it on it said 73%.
You might want to check into getting a new battery I got a extended battery for 10$ you can probably find the original sized battery for about the same price if you look around.

Google "bump charging". I had a similar issue when I was on serendipity vii, it would charge to full, but as soon as I unplugged it would drop to 80%. I bump charged, then calibrated. All was well after that.

Tried that. It hangs at about the 2/3 full level on the large green battery icon when the phone is charging off so I really can't do a proper bump charge.
I think I am going to resign to it being a battery past its prime...
New batteries are fairly cheap, plus I've heard that if you even mention faulty battery to at&t they ship you a new one for free...

I find that hard to believe, but it can't hurt to try!
Sounds like you need a battery calibration..
1. discharge completely
2. plug into a USB port on the computer for a slow charge up to 100% (overnight while "off")
3. unplug the device and turn it on
4. if you have a ROM with CWM installed, clear the battery stats at this time.
5. plug it into usb until it's charged to 100% (while on)
6. unplug the device and turn it off
7. plug in into usb again until its charged to 100%(while "off")
8. turn it on and use it as normal
This will allow the device to relearn it's battery charging characteristics. This is the battery calibration.

In stages 2 or 5 it never reaches 100%.
I am going to try a coworkers battery tomorrow at full charge. That should settle it.

You are not leaving it long enough. It will reach 100% once it charges what it believes is 30% more. It must be off and you must clear the Batt stats.
Once it stops charging it marks that as fully charged. Your battery needs calibration.

You are right.
I did a small test with a coworkers battery today.
His battery in his phone - 88%
His battery in my phone - 58%
Leaves a delta of 30% which is exactly why mine stops charging at 70%.
It has gotten to 100% while off charging in the green. I then booted to CWM recovery and wiped battery stats, but it turns on at 70% again. It is almost like it isn't deleting the file.

It's true, go to your nearest AT&T store and tell them about your issue and they'll take your information (name, address etc...) and ship you a brand new OEM (Samsung) battery no questions asked. No idea why they don't just hand you one on the spot, but it only takes a few days to get to you anyways.

did you finish the procedure I mentioned? There is a calibration procedure. It involves turning it on and off several times and plugging it in an unplugging it several times.

I followed the calibration instructions perfectly. I have done it quite often actually. Didn't work. It acts as if CWM isn't actually deleting the file.
Deleted batterystats.bin via a terminal emulator and still no luck.

hi everyone,
I have issues with charging the phone, it takes a seriously long time to charge the phone. When the battery was at 20% I plugged it in to charge overnight(8 hours) and it only charged to about 50-60%. I've tried plugging it into both the wall outlet and computer and still have the same result. Could the problem be the battery, charging cable or that it is running on a custom rom?
any help would be much appreciated thanks
kind regards
Was the phone powered off ?

How long have you had the phone? It depends how often the battery is charged and recharged. Try to wipe battery stats in the recovery or recalibration to see it helps. Or it could be the battery is no longer holding the charge. Time for a new battery.

No the phone was on but should that effect the charge time that drastically?

Only had the phone for a couple of days because its a second hand phone and like you suggested I've wiped the battery stats but that didn't solve the problem.
The phone does hold its charge so I'm concerned if I buy a new battery the problem would persist.
thanks for your suggestions

Some Roms are battery hogger.
Sometimes, screen is working but not full light and you don't notice reloading.
Sometimes, battery loader is damaged and loads really slower.
My Rom is a battery hogger, and my Data cable is a bit damaged ^^ If I don't power off my phone, It won't load enough to be noticed.
Hi, i recently did this. My battery was charging very slowly over USB. Then i executed the "reset battery stats" option in cwm. But i think this one did not work the way i thought it should work.
Another problem is that the Back of my SGS is gettin really hot. Over 100° F /40° C at the spot, where you find the mSDHC slot.
Cant find Infos, only advices to do NOT flash with low battery.
Your battery is over charging just charge to a 100% or then unplug and wipe the battery stats is a folder that keeps files to help the device keep from over charging and when you wiped it while pluged in it probably got a bad reading or something. Easy fix but can be dangerous. This is my basic understanding I am no "android architect" or a linux major.

Thanks. Its charging since 2 hours. And the battery is at 25%. I dont really pay attention to the loading time, but this is not a normal behaviour, is it ?
Hello Everyone,
I've just flashed CM9 stable version and wanted to calibrate my battery.
First, it's not charged to 100% even though I've charged it overnight. Then I've tried to calibrate it.
(1. Charge your phone to 100% full.
2. Reboot to CWM (recovery)
3. Scroll down using volume keys and choose advanced
4. Choose wipe battery stats
5. Reboot phone.
6. Without charging your phone at all... let it die completely until it shuts off.
7. Plug your phone in and without a break let it charge to 100%)
However, that did not work for me. It still charges to 98%, no matter charging overnight. I can't see 100%, even 99%
Any ideas?
Edit: And one more question: Doing a full wipe removes battery stats file?
Thanks in advance

Once it shows charged on 98%, just remove the charger and then plug it again, it'll start charging again and maybe it'll go till 99% or 100% and will show charged again ..
doing full wipe doesn't remove battery stats

Wiping battery stats is a myth. Your battery may just be starting to go, it is old now.

Maybe try this way:
Wait til charged to, in your case 98%, shutdown phone.
Reconnect charger.
Don't boot phone, wait until charged to 100%.
Boot normally.
If this doesn't work, try to wipe bat stats and repeat this solution.

As far as I know, battery calibration by wiping battery stat's is not working. I've read an article about that when someone's been interviewing with one of Google's Android developers and she said that it's like deleting your browser history, it won't speed up your internet. Same goes with battery stats. It's only information about how long you've charged your battery last time, when you've plugged ur phone etc. etc.
It's more like placebo effect, you delete battery stats and you think it's "living" longer but it's not.
Not charging to 100% is (1)Kernel or (2)ROM issue to not showing correctly battery percentage (besides that battery should be full, it's only showing bad variables)

It could also be one of the duff chinese replacement batteries that always show 3923nV.
I have just had 2 bilitong batteries that will only charge to 99% and have a vastly lower capacity than claimed.
The 'cameron seino' battery i have also reports 3923 mV all teh time but does charge to 100% (update after full charge - cameron gives correct voltage and early testing shows excellent performance)
The original battery shows everything correctly and still charges to 100%
the only aftermarket battery which iv seen to charge up properly and give the expected life span is one made by a company called anker. I would personally go for an anker battery if I could not source a genuine Samsung one.

I agree that a new genuine battery is the best option - full stop.
The oversize cameron battery i am currently testing in my desire is proving a mix of good and bad. Definate improvement in battery life, although still problems in reporting correct mV, and rattles a bit in the oversized back (should be easily fixable)
Gonna get around to antutu battery tesating the 2 year old original 1400mAh, poor bilitong 1650mAh (ROFL) and 2400mAh cameron
Since last week my tablet suddenly shutdown. I turned it on and it goes off again. The battery had more then 80%. I thougth it was just a battery calibration problem. I did all wipes (battery, cache, etc) and same problem. I noticed if i change the bright it also turns off. It seems like the battery didn't have enough power to leave it turned on. I completly discharge the battery and the problem seemed to be sold for 2 days. yesterday i tried to recharge it and it was showing 7% battery but it wasn't actually not charging. The percent goes to zero, i left it charging for all night long and it didn't charge the battery. Everytime i removed the cable it turns off. So I thought the battery was dead. Today i tried to charge again and i notice the percent was raising. It charged to 100% and now seems to be working. Did anybody have a problem like that or guess what's going on? Thanks
