Battery Charge Issue - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi everyone,
I have issues with charging the phone, it takes a seriously long time to charge the phone. When the battery was at 20% I plugged it in to charge overnight(8 hours) and it only charged to about 50-60%. I've tried plugging it into both the wall outlet and computer and still have the same result. Could the problem be the battery, charging cable or that it is running on a custom rom?
any help would be much appreciated thanks
kind regards

Was the phone powered off ?

How long have you had the phone? It depends how often the battery is charged and recharged. Try to wipe battery stats in the recovery or recalibration to see it helps. Or it could be the battery is no longer holding the charge. Time for a new battery.

No the phone was on but should that effect the charge time that drastically?

Only had the phone for a couple of days because its a second hand phone and like you suggested I've wiped the battery stats but that didn't solve the problem.
The phone does hold its charge so I'm concerned if I buy a new battery the problem would persist.
thanks for your suggestions

Some Roms are battery hogger.
Sometimes, screen is working but not full light and you don't notice reloading.
Sometimes, battery loader is damaged and loads really slower.
My Rom is a battery hogger, and my Data cable is a bit damaged ^^ If I don't power off my phone, It won't load enough to be noticed.

[Q] Is My Battery Dead?

So i woke up this morning and i forgot to charge my HD2, i had just rooted it a few days ago running smoothly on Core Droid. but when i tried to charge it, it didnt . no light was showing. before i had this incident the battery would run out quickly. When i try to plug it in to the charger nothing happens, and a few times it would shwo the boot screen then suddently shut down and now that doesnt happen anymore. Do i have to get a new battery?
Running Android may mean that your phone might not shut down before the battery protection circuit activates, to prevent destruction of the cell.
Once this happens the standard charger may not be able to charge this battery, although I have read that removing the battery from the phone for a couple of hours and trying again might work - do some searching on xda.
If you have access to other micro-usb chargers then give them all a go, one might work - or you may have to replace the battery.
Also try removing the battery whist it plugged into the charger then leave it as advised above

Good idea. After this you have to charge the phone for 100% before turning it on again (just leave it overnight)
Then turn it on, let it drain completely until it dies.
This way you have re-calibrated the battery and you might get better battery life.
Apart from that, you can try the one-in-a-million power saving tips.

Battery discharging at 82% after complete charge (with charger unplugged)

Hello,
For the last week I've noticed that in the morning when i unplug my phone from the charger the battery percentage shows 82%, although the phone was connected over the night with the charger.
The idea is after the battery is fully charged it begins to drain, but never when i unplugged the phone in the morning (after a night spent plugged with the charger) the battery was drained (or so drained).
If i don't unplug the charger when the battery is fully charged, the battery starts to drain.
I've used the home charger, car charger and the usb.
Did this issue happened to someone else?
This issue happened because I've deleted the battery stats?
Sorry for my english.
This issue happened because I've deleted the battery stats
Unlikely back up data and factory reset as first step .
jje
1. Do a factory reset
2. Turn off phone
3. Charge till full
4. Delete Battery stats
5. Drain till autoshutdown
6. Charge till full again.

yes, i'm on gingerbread 2.3.3 (darky 10 5.3), and i don't know why is happening this because i've installed the new rom with the battery full, or maybe i thought that the battery is full.
i'll try to recalibrate the battery and see if it works.
I have the same problem. I am on gingerbread as well
Just plug in again till it says charged and do it again after, mine is the same jvb.

[q] i'm battery murderer

So here's what happened:
I just got my hTC HD7, it had some juice alredy so I played around with it, when the battery got empty, I charged it. But my plug has a on/off switcher. I tripped over it and turned it off. This was the first time I charged the phone. What shall I do? I put the phone back in the box. Shall I get a new battery or charge the phone again? HHHEEELLLPPP!!!!
Just leave it to charge? Accidentally turning off the charger while the phone is charging doesn't do it any damage. I knock the plug loose all the time.

A full charge for the first time can be interruped without issue, lithium-ion batterys do not carry a charge memory unlike older handsets where you did have to give a full charge from the outset.
To get the best life from your battery or spares try to do the following:
Try to keep the handset out of any heated environment (eg; a car on a sunny day with windows closed) as this could stress the battery and decrease the charge life.
Do not use another charger that could stress the battery with over voltage (keeping it plugged in after full charge with the regular charger will not affect the battery) the battery will degrage however if it were allowed to exceed the 4.20V/cell limit.
If storing a spare battery for an extended period of time it is recommended that the charge level is around 40% for optimum lifespan.
Hope this helps,

first off, thanks for that helpful tip on saving batter power. i just have a question concerning the above mentioned (quote) do computer/laptop usb ports supply the same voltage as the charger that came along with the phone? will it hurt the stock battery if i always use the laptop usb port to charge my phone?
thanks in advance

the first one seems to be the same as the stock battery but the second will surely get you through a day without charging with all phone features on(data, wifi as in everything) or a whole day of heavy calling and sms. but if there are only a select features turned on or on stand by mode roughly it will last you two - two and a half.

Seriously, c´mon guys, if the battery dies, just replace it, charge the battery how you want (partial charge is better for Li-based batteries than a full charge), also, HD7 stops charging the battery once it reaches maximum charge level, so if you keep it on charger, green LED will be on, but no charging is done, this is to prevent stressing the cells (cells are most stressed when on full charge and fully discharged). So no worries here .

[Q] Help. Battery will not charge more than 70%

I am not new to the phone and I have done battery calibrations many times. I used MIUI for a long time, then went to Pinnacle 1.1. After a few weeks one night after fully charging, I unplugged the charger and it dropped to 70% instantly. I could then plug the charger back in and it will not move from 70% for a while, then it will register 'fully charged'. Removal of the charger again will make it drop to 70%. Turning off the device and charging will show the green battery about 2/3 full, but not registering full. I then went back to MIUI thinking it was a rom flaw, but this problem has persisted. I am right now charging on stock JF6 with the same results. If this is indicative of a defective battery, has anyone seen this before? The battery is 14 months old.
TL;DR - It seems that the battery wont charge past 70% regardless of ROM/Kernel.
I had a similar problem but it was because I wasn't using the charger that comes with the phone switched chargers problem was solved.

I drained the battery last night, and then charged while off fully. The green battery icon went to 100%, and as soon as I turned it on it said 73%.
You might want to check into getting a new battery I got a extended battery for 10$ you can probably find the original sized battery for about the same price if you look around.

Google "bump charging". I had a similar issue when I was on serendipity vii, it would charge to full, but as soon as I unplugged it would drop to 80%. I bump charged, then calibrated. All was well after that.

Tried that. It hangs at about the 2/3 full level on the large green battery icon when the phone is charging off so I really can't do a proper bump charge.
I think I am going to resign to it being a battery past its prime...
New batteries are fairly cheap, plus I've heard that if you even mention faulty battery to at&t they ship you a new one for free...

I find that hard to believe, but it can't hurt to try!
Sounds like you need a battery calibration..
1. discharge completely
2. plug into a USB port on the computer for a slow charge up to 100% (overnight while "off")
3. unplug the device and turn it on
4. if you have a ROM with CWM installed, clear the battery stats at this time.
5. plug it into usb until it's charged to 100% (while on)
6. unplug the device and turn it off
7. plug in into usb again until its charged to 100%(while "off")
8. turn it on and use it as normal
This will allow the device to relearn it's battery charging characteristics. This is the battery calibration.

In stages 2 or 5 it never reaches 100%.
I am going to try a coworkers battery tomorrow at full charge. That should settle it.

You are not leaving it long enough. It will reach 100% once it charges what it believes is 30% more. It must be off and you must clear the Batt stats.
Once it stops charging it marks that as fully charged. Your battery needs calibration.

You are right.
I did a small test with a coworkers battery today.
His battery in his phone - 88%
His battery in my phone - 58%
Leaves a delta of 30% which is exactly why mine stops charging at 70%.
It has gotten to 100% while off charging in the green. I then booted to CWM recovery and wiped battery stats, but it turns on at 70% again. It is almost like it isn't deleting the file.

It's true, go to your nearest AT&T store and tell them about your issue and they'll take your information (name, address etc...) and ship you a brand new OEM (Samsung) battery no questions asked. No idea why they don't just hand you one on the spot, but it only takes a few days to get to you anyways.

did you finish the procedure I mentioned? There is a calibration procedure. It involves turning it on and off several times and plugging it in an unplugging it several times.

I followed the calibration instructions perfectly. I have done it quite often actually. Didn't work. It acts as if CWM isn't actually deleting the file.
Deleted batterystats.bin via a terminal emulator and still no luck.

Sorry it was unnecessary on my part. No I did not check, and how to do it?
After your help, I cleaned the file again and to my surprise the battery was loading and recharge to 86% and further something not want to charge. Then I left my phone charger at night and Without the charger has dropped to 54%. Battery Calibration gives 54%.

Shutdown your phone and then put off your battery, and see if this is inflated, maybe your battery is dead :S
and..I'd advice you don't leave overnight charging your device, this may break your device's battery
Thanks a lot Viper The Ripper for all the help.
Problem solved, the battery can not be saved and had to buy a new one. Subject to closing
However, the problem is not solved, I put new battery recharge up to 100%, acted a little state has declined to 87% wanted to recharge again with curiosity and an hour remained at this level that the problem may be in the USB cable, charger, I tried to recharge the phone connection laptop unfortunately nothing. Any advice ?
