Seems like a decent price, even though the device could use a better screen, bluetooth, and hdmi out. I grabbed a rain check while I think about a possible new toy...
Saw this on Engadget yesterday. The thing doesn't do portrait mode, doesn't have an accelerometer, and almost all signs point to the touch screen being resistive rather than capacitive. Still, for $150 I could slap some velcro on the back and on my cabinets and use it to follow recipes when cooking.

Huh. I spoke with tech support yesterday and they said it didn't support portrait. But we were also talking about the lack of an accelerometer so they might have just meant it didn't automatically flip.
Well I talked to them again today, and I dont get the warm and fuzzy feeling about the answers, but here is what "Ari" had to say:
Ari: unit has options for a prtrait and mode
Ari: headphone jack should be 3.5mm
Ari: unit has a camera
Ari: it has a usb slot for file transfers
Ari: 800mgz for prcessors
Ari: it should be able to charge with the usb also
Ari: it should have a calibrate command also
Ari: and program similar for the android market
Ari: it is using an android 2.1 program
Ari: i apologize this is just a new device and not all program alternatives and specifications has not fully been established
Ari: it is supposed to be out end of the week
Ari: and by august
Ari: i'm basing that from the manual sent to me

I think they recently relaxed the restrictions on Market access so now tablets can use it. I have no source for that assertion however.

They're just reselling the hardware I'm guessing. No way a Florida company could make this cheaper than China can.
over all i like the device. im used to a resistive screen so thats not a problem. doesnt appear to have the auto rotate screen but waiting to hear back from them to find out what the deal is. the manual talks about auto rotating the screen so it should have it. lack of bluetooth is another draw back but i really dont need it. they also have a 2.5mm headphone jack on them instead of a 3.5 like normal but they are addressing that with an adapter i do believe.
power consumption wasnt too bad. i was using the device for 5 hours yesterday and only used a 1/4 reserve from what it said. so i was only down to around 72% charge after playing with it for 5 hours. was reasonably bright enough in a brightly lit room. the angle one can see is pretty good as well.
the microsd card slot isnt in line properly. so if you insert a card you will want to put a price of tape on the end of it so when you release it you can pull it out. i played hell getting the thing to pull out and it was dragging the top of the card so had to use a pair of tweezers to pull it out.
cant access the market yet so havent tried the nook or kindle apps but that will be my next thing. looking at pictures was good. just as good as my digi pic frame.
over all for what i bought it for i do believe it will work a treat. i was going to buy a chumby either the bb or the sony branded chumby and this will work so much better then either of those two devices.
mistakes happen. how do people forget to take thier vitamins in the morning? how do people forget there coffee mug on the roof of thier car?

Well, that's good to hear. Really all I'd ever want one for is reading in bed, surfing the web while on the couch and most importantly, following recipes online without having to print them. Velcro that thing to the cabinet and we're golden.
Can you post some pics of the device from different angles? I'm curious how thick it is and where the ports are.
Seems my local store has a few in stock here, so I'm swinging by on my way home to grab one. Ill report back what I can about the device later tonight or tomorrow morning. Supposed firmware update released tomorrow.
Wow, just noticed this...MSNBC noticed it.

I decided a while ago to use my Nexus 7 as my head unit in my 2006 Legacy 3.0R. This is the result.
Audio is done via a Kenwood FM modulator, and bluetooth streaming to the pre-existing Parrot system as a backup.
In the near future I'm going to mount a 3G-wifi hotspot and Seagate Satellite wifi hard drive in the glove box for internet and media streaming.
Video and better pics coming later tonight
reserved for more pics/video
I really wanted to use the nexus 7 with my car install. But limited storage, and no usb otg/charge at same time. If that was possible it would be in my dash now.
Im going to use a galaxy tab 2 since it can take a 64gb sd. Really wish there was a solution.
But nice, clean install. Im adding mine to my Dodge Magnum.

Segate Goflex Satellite or the Kingston Wi-Drive will solve my storage issues. For now 16GB is enough for just music.
Id like to hear about your experience with that Seagate satellite. It would be nifty to stream that to tablet via wifi and tablet to Kenwood cd player via bluetooth. Talk about ultimate right there, mhm...

Ive also used my Nexus as my media player in my Toyota 86 (FR-S), im using a JVC KD-X50BT which has bluetooth and its just media player so no CD drive which is behind the tablet and it has two USB plus. I use one USB for external USB drives and the other one is for the bluetooth which my cellphone is paired it so i can receive calls while driving. The tablet is plugged into the AUX port for the sound, but the tablet is powered by a mini USB charger 2.1amp in my extra cigarette plug. Im using my cell as a hot spot so that i can stream pandora, netflix, google maps..etc through the tablet. also to contol the volume of my radio thats tucked in the back i used an IR repeater for my remote which i can also change from AUX to USB. Here is what it looks like in the car..

It's not really an issue. The tablet turns on and stays on when it connects to power (when the car turns on), then it turns off after a 30 sec timeout once I turn the car off.
As for volume, I usually just leave it on max but there are plenty of widgets on Google Play that can be used to control the volume.
Unfortunately I do need to clip the panel out to turn it off and on, but I don't anticipate needing to to that too often.

I want to do this in my Toyota Prius Gen III so badly! I just have NO IDEA where to start. I'm excellent with computers, tablets, and phones, but I know nothing about car audio/fabrication etc.
Therefore, I ordered a Monoprice bluetooth receiver and a Nexus 7 Vent mount off eBay for $15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221123164714?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 This will work in the mean time but I REALLY WANT TO FAB a custom front panel and get rid of that weird looking slim slot thingy. Now I may be being stupid here. And let me know if I am.
But why on earth is there no such thing as a caller display in a blue tooth headset.
Say u have ur phone in one pocket and ur head set in another
You want to be able to see who is calling and answer without having to take out the phone.
You should also be able to do last few numbers redial so that you can make the majority of calls without taking our the phone as well.
Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp?

Cos you would have to take the headset off your ear and look at it to see who was calling?
Isnt that where most people have their headsets...
Some headsets/phones allow the caller name to be read out to you... but that assumes that you have the headset on your ear.
Did you bother to search? There are many Bluetooth headsets with Caller ID displays. Here are some pictures: https://www.google.com/search?q=blu...AWCn4HICA&sqi=2&ved=0CGoQsAQ&biw=1326&bih=931

I have looked at those.
Most of those are not very good. (Or very old)
Maybe I should have said "decent display head sets"
The ones that have separate headphones don't count.
You need in-ear style for quick use.
I would have expected there were some excellent ones out there.
Especially with all the 7 inch tablets that are becoming more and more prevalent

What's quicker, looking down at something clipped to your shirt and pressing the answer button, or taking something out of your ear, looking at it, then putting it back into your ear and pressing the answer button?

Only a plonker would have it in his ear all the time (unless their job necessitates it)
With clipping to your shirt 12 hours a day, you'd also look like a plonker. .....
Remember - you only actually use the phone for a fraction of that time....
Its the same argument for the note 2 vs a normal phone...
You use "media" more than "calling", so it makes sense to compromise with a big phone to get the most out of the "media" functionality.
So compromise by putting ur hand in the pocket.
Plus if u have the phone in your pocket you'd have to put your hand in your pocket, so there is no real difference.

Don't bother with that one! For one thing, you can buy it for half that price elsewhere, but it's a piece of crap at any price.
It only has BT v1 so it can't be connected at the same time as a headset. I learned that from experience, and most of the advertised features on mine don't work, even without my headset paired.

I see a big future in these types of watches
A big big future.
But the only problem with your plan is that you still have multiple devices to think about just for answering a call.

Depends on if the watch can control the headset. Phone rings, look at watch, don't want to talk, hit the ignore button. Want to talk hit the answer button and it activates the headset.
I just let my headset tell me who's calling. :victory:

Better than nothing. ..
But still means two gadgets being accessed to answer a call. ..
But I repeat. .. These watches will be big in a few years.
What I can see happening is that you have a very small earpiece which is permanently in the ear...
And the mic is on the wrist so you talk into the wrist...
It will take a bit of time to get used to but the buck Rogers generation won't mind

No.
But is this voice based?
That would be a bit awkward anyway I reckon
When you get a call. ..it rings and a voice speaks out the callers name. .
Similar settings can be made for messages
Enable driving mode (you also have notification toggle for it)... give yourself a call to see how it works

Looking for a good BT headset. I don't use them much, but am moving to a place that prohibits holding my phone in the car. My primary criteria is good voice functionality. I'd like to be able to do as much as possible without touching the phone, and preferably without touching the earpiece. Call quality should be good, but doesn't have to be best in class or anything. Mono is fine. Keep in mind that I have a very full beard, so the headset can't depend on facial contact.
I've been poring over reviews and just can't make any sense of them, so I thought I'd ask. (Motorola CommandOne seems a decent buy)
Thanks!

Thanks, I had read Vectron's review but decided it seemed more music oriented than call oriented. I'll revisit that.
Edit: Ok, now I remember the problems. It's a beard thing. On me, the mic and controls will sit under my beard. That will make it difficult to use and will probably severely diminish call quality. Darn, looks like a good one, but not worth shaving for.
Didn't have a chance to review this one yet (next to impossible to get review samples), but I heard good things about it and control remote is far away to keep it from your beard http://www.amazon.com/In-Ear-Noise-...UTF8&qid=1366911775&sr=8-1&keywords=a.m.p+iso

I wonder about mic placement on that. I *think* it's in the control unit and is meant to be clipped to your shirt. If so, that means the mic is going to be sitting down on my belly. Maybe too far away? I think I may need to stick with one of the mono units. Jawbone is out due to needing skin contact if I've understood their tech correctly.

Today we’re looking at the samDock
Click here to see the original review and you'll also find links to purchase.
The samDock is an adapter cable that let's you use Samsung's latest Android phones like the Note 2 with Apple's 30 pin connector to charge or play audio.
Main advantage: affordable, long length, works by simply plugging it in
Main concern: NONE
Unique features: You can use android devices on Apple docks!!!
I've personally wanted a product like this for years, but it just didn't exist. It seems so simple, there are adapters for everything why not one that adapts Apple's useless proprietary connector to work with the much more universal micro USB standard? The good news is that the wait is over, the bad news is that most people don't care at this point unfortunately. We've seen the wide scale adoption of Bluetooth and things like DLNA, Wifi Direct, and mirrorlink. That means that Apple's stranglehold on the accessory market gets weaker and weaker by the day. For a time, it was the law of the land that all of the coolest docking solutions were Apple exclusive. That's just where the money was, so that's where the effort went.
Nowadays wires are a nuisance and wireless is nearly standard. Bluetooth is everywhere and it's in everything. The great news for those of you that dropped your hard earned money on some sort of Apple capable dock is that this is an extremely affordable solution. If you need to use your Note 2 or most any other Galaxy device with an Apple 30 pin dock it's as simple as plugging this wire in. For some phones that's all it takes and you're done. Others will have to go into your settings and enable Audio Output Mode. You'll just check the box that says, "use external speakers when device is docked.” That's all it takes though. Docks big and small, portable or built in. You'll pass through high quality audio and you even retain the ability to charge your devices.
The cable itself is 24” long, 2 feet is long enough to do plenty without feeling tethered to a dock. It comes in black instead of the apple standard white which is a nice little touch of defiance. It worked with every dock that I tested as well as simply attaching it to an apple charging cable. It will work with the Galaxy S 3 and 4 as well as the Note 1 and 2.
Thank you again to CableJive for supplying their product for review.
Alternatives: none that I've seen
How much: 24.95 each at CableJive.com
Is it worth buying: For under thirty dollars, it's worth buying it to just throw it in your bag on the off chance that you find yourself at a friend's house and you need to arrange some last minute karaoke with an iPod alarm clock.

Man, please take this as useful constructive advice. Ditch that music that seems to be your trademark.
It's awful and annoying. 10 seconds in on both of your videos and I'm rushing to close the window.
The product isn't getting seen if I'm closing the window because of the 'cute' music.

agreed! 100%!
Another point, people have invested a lot of money into Apple accessories and can take advantage of using it with android phone. But the whole beauty of apple gadgets was docking integration without any need for cables or devices laying on the side. This solution does work, but you kill the look of the setup by not being able to dock your smartphone.

are you guys talking about the very start of every video? The opening with the choir type voices? That's from an everclear song.
Otherwise, for every product reviewed, I pick a song that has something to do with the product or it's name. It's just a fun little touch. So this is the samDOCK so the song is hickory dickory DOCK, which is a child's nursery rhyme. It's just a goofy little added touch and you can always mute and just look at the pictures if the music is bugging you. I was this close to doing a death metal cover of hickory dickory dock but I couldn't find a clear enough recording.
now that I think of it there were a bit of children's songs, they just fit really well. I reviewed a wireless charging dock the other day and I used the song, "I've got no strings" from Pinocchio. "I've got no strings, to hold me down" no wires, wireless charging, you get it. Just a fun little touch.
They aren't always kids songs.
Lol I really think everyone is giving you a hard time because that zip thing you reviewed was just stupid.
I mean really guys no one is forcing you to watch the slideshow, you can always mute and listen to whatever you want if you want to setethe pictures.

I'm interested at this. Can you still use the remote on Bose sound dock to skip and control volumes?

Not trying to give you a hard time by any means, it's honestly meant as constructive criticism! I am truthfully trying to be helpful, nothing else! You may not care though, and if what your doing is working for you then I suppose there's no need to change it. I just think your videos would be more professional without some of the music in them, that's all. I did watch many of your YouTube videos! Trying to help out because the more views the better for you. Like the NeatDesk Scanner, that song is just awful! Whether it goes with the product being reviewed or not, I find it very annoying. For the video showing the Otterbox Defender and Seidio Convert cases for the Note 2, I actually really like the song choice! That said though, I still think the video would appear more professional with out the song. Now for the Phillips Hue video, that's a great song choice!! No, not something that I would listen to in my car, but it's like elevator music, simple music with no lyrics. That is very fitting for your videos, and doesn't distract attention from the video whatsoever!! See, I'm not basing this off of what I like or want to hear, just telling you what I think comes off as being more professional. Of course, this is just my opinion. You may not even care what I think or what I have to say. I'm just trying to give you a viewer's perspective, that's all.
Now on to this product! This is something I really need!! My tool chest/box has a CD player and 2 6x9 speakers built in to it! This was one of the selling points to me, not the only one as this tool chest has many unique features not found in any other tool chest, but one of the selling points nonetheless. Coming out of a little slot in the top area of the tool chest/box once the lid has been opened, there is a cable that is tied in to the stereo system in the tool chest. It has an Apple connection on the end of it . Isn't that big of deal, as the CD player also has a 3.5 mm auxiliary jack on it, so I can just use that. I would like to be able to shut the little door that covers the CD player while I'm working though (also has a remote for it), and can't do that with an auxiliary cable sticking out. I do have a 4th Gen iPod Touch 32GB. The remote also allows me to skip songs when it's hooked up through the Apple cable, which is a very nice function!! Obviously the remote can't do anything with my phone, except adjust volume, when it's hooked up through the auxiliary cable. With this adapter/converter you posted here, it would give me the same functionality of my phone as I currently have with my iPod!!
Honestly, using my iPod in the tool chest is basically the only reason I haven't sold it yet! Getting this adapter would be awesome for me! Thank you for taking the time to make this review, and especially for sharing it with this community!! It's greatly appreciated!!

Glad I dont own any Apple docks!
Well,
Got one today and I've now tried 3 docks and it works on none. I've flashed back to stock ROM in case it wasn't compatible with ProBAM.
Not having a bit of it. Money down the drain.

We gave feedback to hopefully help you improve the reception of your videos.
If you don't want the feedback or use it in anyway, don't expect fanfare and trumpets for future works.
But nah, listen to the guy that didn't bother to watch or even attempt to watch your work.
Best of luck amigo.

I like to pick out a song that hints to the product in a some way. I don't give hints in the description and sometimes it's harder to figure out why I'd choose a certain song. It's a little side game and people have contacted me saying that it makes them happy to figure it out. I could just find generic background music, but I'm trying to put in a bit more effort than that. Please mute it if it upsets you.
I've seen some adapters similar to this on ebay for cheap. Not sure if they'll allow data(music is the only thing I want) to pass through though. Anyone try one of the adaptors from ebay or similar? Less than $10, so they're super cheap, but even still I don't wanna through ANY money at them if they'll only charge...

Hi
I'm thinking about creating something along the lines of Grace Digital GDI GSD8200 - in my option would be - (Bose sounddock => cablejive /samDock/ => iGRIP Universal Micro USB Charging Dock ) - mounted on the top of my Bose and use it for my Samsung Galaxy phone
My question is - if micro usb plug from samDock will work with the iGRIP charging dock ? (charging and sound signal) or any micro usb charging dock

Or any charging docs ?
