[Q] email - read receipt, Wifi 65Mbps only and other things - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have couple questions about my SGS (JM2). I try to serach but nothing good...
1. there's any email client that I can send email with read receipt and also send receipt for incoming emails?
2. i setup email account ( IMAP), but almost always when I open inbox all emails disappears and after cople second shows again and I get notification "25 new emails" but there's any new message;
3.Wifi always connect with my router (Tp-1043WND) by 65Mbps. It's not too slow? My router have 300Mbps, SGS also, so why it connect with low speed. when I try to download something from my Synology server, I have only 1,5-2MBps transfer...
4. Also I have Samsung LE40C550 TV (newest firmware 019) and when I try to play videos recorded by SGS (1280x720px) by DLNA it plays, but without sound (not known audio codec). With lower resolution it's no problem, plays both audio and video;
5. I read somwhere that when I recive a SMS i should pop up on TV screen, but in my case nothing;
6. When I write new SMS and I'm near 155 symbols, then pop up small window with numbers of SMS and free space, but it shows only in vertical phone position, on landscape nothing;
I know maybe for beginning is to much, but for me it's very important thing...
P.S. Sorry for my english.
Regards
Andrzej

Any clue? .

Only I have this problems? I don't believe it...

You can set-up gmail to do one or both, but not from the client end. ( See canned responses. )

You need to set settings on the server side to allow the client to expunge messages etc.

300/8 = 37.8 MB/s.
Most likely scenario you will only get 100 on the phone, in your case 65Mbps = 5-6 MB/s.

This is probably a bandwidth issue, I don't exactly vouch for the quality of Samsung TV's but it has nothing to do with Android.

Again a bug with Samsung SMS app? I can't say for certain but there is no solution other than trying other firmwares.

I can only comment on this. My phone also connects to my 820.11n router at 65Mbps, and I suspect that's a limitation of the implementation of 1 20MHz channel rather than 2 40MHz channels required for 300Mbps, i.e. it's a hardware limitation.
However, I can download using the Speedtest.net application at over 20Mbps (I have a 50Mbps Internet connection) so 1-2Mbps seems low for a local server.

On 1 20MHz channel You can get 150Mbps connection, two channels are for 300Mbps, but I have only 65Mbps connection with 1,5-2 MBps download from my local network. On my laptop ('n' 150Mbps I can get 9,5-11 MBps download.
I need read receipt in mail app (not gmail account)...

I post this thread in SGS forum and I know that this's Samsung problem (bandwidth it's second problem, TV needs lot of time to start playing), in my opinion it's codec problem.

I try on stock firmware (XJG4 I think) and JM2 - the same situation. there's a more bugs (I can't write SMS in "ABC GSM", beacuse if there are polish letters it sends ?? instead śą, etc). I know I can switch to unicode (then works fine), but SMS can have only 70 instead 160 symbols... Therefore I wite it in SGS forum... Maybe someone have the same problems (it will be a confirmation of more SGS fault not only my phone)...

speaker gone, loudspeaker ok - help!

any suggestions? i'm thinking connection or radio rom, but if latter why now?
i also am lacking a good browser, ie takes up to a min to load xda-devel front page or ebay, can't display contents of auctions & freezes & jerks while loading every few kb at a time. not to mention dusplaying pages all wrong, columns one word wide etc.

If your browser is slow it may be the DNS service. Google OpenDNS or go to opendns.com. Give that a try first. OpenDNS has a guide & it's pretty simple to test out.
Okay, thanks for the tip - but why would it be a dns issue? Dns is to locate a site, this locates fast but takes ages to load the page. On wifi through the dns service in my router - or via hsdpa. Makes no difference. As my router dns is perfect and I can reach sites in seconds on the pc, I'd expect using the same wireless link that is isn't a dns issue - or is my thinking faulty?
More immediately - does anyone have any suggestions as to why I have no sound when someone calls me except on speakerphone?
Greg.
forum's front page and ebay takes long to load cause PIE is a **** browser. Try using opera mini instead.
As for the speaker.........seems to me like a hardware problem. IF it is software, the only thing i can suggest to you is a hard reset.

EDGE

All,
Generic question about Edge really..
I have setup my diamond for direct push from my works exchange server..
when it does this it opens the data connection and logs onto the edge network and recieves any new emals (headers only). Now, the signal indicator stays on the E rather than the normal mobile mast icon. Does this mean it stays logged into the edge network? I pay per kb but I'm guessing if its just logged into the edge network then its not actually downloading anything, only when the scheduled time to check the exchange server? is that correct?
Regards,
Me.
Depending on the Settings the EDGE Connection keeps established because the ActiveSync is sending a Keepalive (Heartbeat) to the Exchange Server.
This "Ping" is not very Traffic Consuming.
Looks that you have configured the "Always on / On new Objects" rather than a scheduled ordinary Download.
So if you want your emails to be "pushed" to your Diamond immediately the connection is kept alive and the "E" will be displayed instead of the "Antenna".
Hmm.. must be that heartbeat.. I have it configured to only download manually..
Any way to change the heartbeat? how often is it sent?
Regards,
Me.
Hmm dunno excatly.... on MFe on Symbian Devices is was set to 10 Seconds.
But the strange thing is that I also configured a scheduled 15Min Download (both Peak and Offpeak Time set to manually) and the connection will be torn down shortly after the Download.
hm.. its definately not taking down the edge connection.. I'll have a search around the forums to see if there is a setting somewhere! thanks for the pointers though.
What does the Active Sync Screen say after the download?
Connected?
Or is it showing the last Sync Time?

I do it manually and its no big deal. It takes 5 seconds tops. Or you can set the phone to chek every 30 minutes or something like that (weekdays) and chek every 2 hours (weekends) I also pay for KB.
Hope it helps.
cheers boys.

MSN Live Messenger refuses to connect 90% of the time

I am running TOR 2.1 and also tried quite a few different roms but none of them seem to fix this issue I have.
MSN Messenger 90% of the time refuses to connect, even with a very strong signal (shows H) it just has a permanent beach ball and then comes back saying it cannot connect.
Tried it over WIFI and it works fine, connects within seconds.
I am on 3 Network if that makes any difference??
Has anyone else got random connection problems with MSN? or even better if someone here knows a fix!
Cheers
Dale
What 3G provider are you with? I know T-Mobile here in the UK blocks Windows Live, and strictly doesn't allow Messenger though it does work once activated through WiFi

That's simply not true. I use MSN and Windows Live all the time on my Touch Pro on T-Mobile with WnW.
The chances are you have the proxy box checked for that connection. Uncheck it and it will work fine.
Though I do seem to be having a problem sending hotmail from my Touch Pro. Syncing and receiving is fine, but sending seems a bit hit and miss. Other than that all Windows Live and MSN Messenger functions work fine.

Just checked and the proxy settings are all empty, tried a hard and software reset as well as no tweaks all with the same results, maybe its a problem with 3's network connectivity?

Hrm, very possible. I might be worth checking with H3G, I thought all their handsets shipped with Windows Live and MSN Messenger as standard??
They do normally but I got my touch diamond from hk a couple of months back, so not officially supported i guess.

No I meant that seeing as it comes on all their other devices you would think it would work from your Diamond, H3G dont even have the Diamond do they?
My MSN Live seems to always try to connect via 3G / GPRS - even when there is a Wi-Fi network connected. Is there some sort of setting to fix this?

Interesting, my Windows Live/Hotmail syncing seems to do the same.
Hi check the time settings on your device or the PC you sync your device on, amke sure time is set correctly. I had identical problem before.

Hello,
I have the same problem, with a Touch HD. Had the problem with original ROM, now I upgraded to Dutty's WM 6.5 ROM and still the same.
I also am on 3 (Three) UK, but I don't think that's the problem, for 2 reasons:
1 - Sometimes Messenger and Live Mail do connect and work.
2 - If you try to log in to Messenger the first time, you see that it's dialing a data connection and connecting. Then after 5 mins of spinning ball you get the error that can't connect. Now, if you disconnect the data connection, and try to log in with Messenger, you see the same spinning ball, and after a while the same error, but this time it did not even dial a data connection!
So I must conclude that there's something wrong in the way Messenger and Live use the data connection on our mobiles. Seems that sometimes Messenger is unable to send/receive data? :-S
Any help appreciated.
Matteo
PS: I also opened a thread in MS Windows Mobile forum, but without any solution so far...

I gave on msn messenger and used Palringo, which allows to add various IM services to it.
Try that might work

Dear sbonera
Yes, that works. I use nimbuzz as alternative client. That also works.
But this is a workaround for IM, not a solution.
Furthermore, it's not only a problem of IM. Fact is that I cannot synchronise my Live Mail and my Live Contacts, either.

Slow data over wifi

So guys, I've just bought a nexus 6 last week, and I'm experiencing some strange issues with the WiFi.
Loading content is really slow, things like loading app list on google play, new videos from my subscriptions on YouTube or even a search on google using chrome can take minutes (not exaggerating here, on stopwatch to load the information and pictures of an app on play store the phone took more than 2 minutes).
And some notifications they don't come right away, (new emails, WhatsApp,etc...)
Although the internet where I live now is not the best and the modem/router is a single channel fritzbox, it's fast enough for a simple WhatsApp message to come through.
What I ruled out is:
Provider blocking ports used by google services < contacted the support and no ports are blocked, and things work fine with my mate 7 running kit Kat
Provider slowing down access to google < nope, it's illegal here and again my mate 7 works fine
Interference by other WiFi networks < I'm in a WiFi crowded place now, but my router is the only one on channel 13, tried other channels and no luck either, and again all other WiFi devices work fine here.
My nexus 9 shows the same symptom but not always.. So I assume it's a lollipop thing... Someome has some tips of things that I should try? Thanks a lot

Yes, and some times it never finishes it when trying the upload test, download speed is okay with 9Mbps but upload test stays in 0... Ping is not consistent between 23ms up to 83...
Will post a screenshot with a new test as soon as my PC is finished downloading updates .

Could you try running a speedtest on the nexus 6 and the. On the mate 7? This will help narrow things down a bit.
I'd say it's most likely a router issue. On my 100 Mbit/s broadband I just clocked 111 Mbit/s over Wi-Fi. In other words, the N6 is more than capable...

How to hack Chromecast so its not looking for internet??

Hi to All, I know this has nothing to do with phones, but there might just be someone here who can solve this anyway
My problem is that I live in an area in th Philippines, where Globe telecom is the only solution for internet, and a very unstable one. Sometimes the speed is all the way down to 80Kbps and sometimes it goes to 0.
This makes using a Chromecast very dificult, it's possible to use when the speed is fine, but a sudden drop in speed sends chromecast in buffering mode. I tried to get Google to help, to no avail - they don't care.
I would like to have it not searching for internet, as 99.9% of the time i use it for internal casting(Offline)!
Anyone have a solution for this?
My Chromecast is 3rd gen. According to this page https://www.techthatworks.net/electronic/what-generation-chromecast-do-i-have and use Firmware(checked that in Home App) 1.49.230269
Hope to hear from you smart people soon as this is driving me nuts, I'm back to use USB stick and not all format are supported, so I have to convert and convert and so on, in order to watch the clips.
Thank you in advance
Jan

Hi Peppe, why would it be illegal, I paid for the device - its mine I just want it to stop looking for the internet all the time, and do what it was bought for -casting.
Not possible, it's a real design flaw of the chromecast. I have slow internet and use it for internal casting too, very frustrating. Maybe get a bluray player or a roku they are better.
Thank you

The 3rd gen Chromecast will not boot or function if it can't hit Google's servers at boot. If it looses general internet connection, it will go to a "I've lost my brains" type of screen and not let you do anything. For a Chromecast, the internet connection is sadly required even if you're just mirroring locally.
