I have tried both and even at 768 MHz with JIT disabled or enabled, I get massive lag playing any game only while pressing something on the virtual keyboard. If I don't press any buttons, games look like they run very smoothly, sound and all. But of course to play any game, you need to be holding one of the controls constantly. As soon as I press or hold any virtual key, my frame rate drops so much it becomes unplayable. I tried disabling haptic feedback on the virtual keypad, no effect.
I tried Super Mario World (snesoid), Donkey Kong Country (snesoid), and Super Mario Bros. 3 (nesoid)...
I just want to know if I'm the only one having these lag issues.
If anyone asks: yes, I own these original cartridges
I also had lag on the nesoid. Couldn't really play anything. I have tried all different settings and still had lag

Same issue so I just stick to monolopy now... completely unplayable
Bleh, and I've read that people don't have any lag with G1 (might be thanks to hardware keyboard) or Cliq XT (has no hardware keyboard, and same processor as us!)...
i've tried all of the hero's 2.1 and 2.2 roms and hve had snesoid/nesoid/gensoid/supergnes and they run fine on all the roms i've tried. currently im running zenhero and same thing, no lag whatsoever. i have not messed with any settings. just installed and played. also, im using the stock kernel for the sense roms. i noticed that whenevr you use a custom kernel and OC a sense rom than the lag on games is unbareable! that may be yalls problem. i always use "caligo chaser" for testing the lag on games. runs flwlessly on sense roms with stock kernel. but as soon as i flash a custom kernel....lag from hell!! anyways.... thats my 2 cents, hope thats helps you guys out
Hey, can anyone verfy that? If thats true then ill nand back to my non-oc'd rom.

download the caligo chaser demo and try playing it. if your on an OC'd sense rom then it should be laggy. if so then make another nandroid (just incase) and then nandroid back to your non OC'd rom and play the caligo chaser demo. $100 it will run almost perfect on the non OC'd rom
OK, so hang on... is what you're saying about custom kernel and OC only relevant to Sense ROMs? This is what I got from your posts...
A) If You have a Sense ROM, you need to run the original kernel. Hmm I actually wonder if this kernel would work, since it is built from the HTC Hero kernel source
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750170
B) AOSP ROM should not lag in general
Is this right?
WOW thanks for the advice, cp0020!!!
Indeed after I flashed the kernel I posted above, almost all lag was gone, even during multitouch button pressing... thanks so much!!

lol no problem man. did you use caligo chaser to test it on? it should run damn near perfect on sense with stock kernel. and the lagginess crap is kinda weird, no lag with caligo chaser on the DD 2.7 and darch's froyo, which are OC'd by default. but when i flashed the blackmod theme the games(caligo chaser) was laggy again, just by applying the theme it made the games laggy. so its just kinda retarted. so whenever i flash a rom, i just stick with whatever kernel came with it
I can also confirm that using ZenKernel the lag on nesoid is gone.
I had this problem too on Fresh Rom, but now I switched to Zenhero and it runs great, I still get minimum lag though. =(

Hi,
I'm kind of dissatisfied with the speed of most popular custom roms when it comes to playing games.
Which rom do you use to play games using nes/snes emulators? Hopefully any of the 2.1 roms
Thanks,
Krystian
ps
I know this question falls between roms and games category, but since this is not dev question I decided to put it in here.
I have to agree with you. I use both Snesoid and Gameboid and at regular points games start to slow down.
I think it's a case of having to wait for better versions of the emulators since they're still pretty early in their development.
Either that, or wait until an official 2.1 HTC rom before we expect decent performance.
To be honest with you, I doubt this is emulators fault.
I was able to play with nesoid and play metal slug without any hiccups.
Now few seconds after the mission is on they start.
It definitely is rom "fault". There are speedier and slower roms out there.
Currently I am using Villain Rom 5.1, which seems to be a brilliant rom [it is so fast when it comes to htc sense it's unbelievable] and the slowdowns are far better than in MoDaCo 3.1 [which is great btw], however it still is far from perfect.
I might try to overclock the cpu and see how it goes.
I'm sure I read that overclocking the CPU won't work on the current roms. You can underclock when the screen is turned off for power saving.
However until the official 2.1 rom comes out from HTC we won't be able to overclock over the stock CPU clock.
For 3D games, go Legendroid 1.0.1
In my tests, it blows away any other ROM.
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm having my Nexus One for about two weeks now and I already started a thread about the choppy scrolling between homescreens but now I want to know if there are other people that find their Nexus One slow and if they were able to make it faster in any way.
When I bought this phone I thought android would 'fly' on it cause I already had a HTC Magic and that went reasonably fast. But everything I'm using on my Nexus One feels choppy and not fluent as I expected/want it to be. For example when you start the browser or any other program you get this zoom animation which is nice but it doesn't go fluent, it goes choppy like you would play a videogame with 5 FPS.
And as I already mentioned the same counts for the launcher, it's just not fluent and doesn't feel fast at all.
I've tested different rom's, froyo, etc. but nothing seems to make it right so now I'm wondering if there are people that have the same issue's? Is it normal that the Nexus One isn't super fast to use or is there something wrong with my phone and should I return it?
i think something is wrong. especially with froyo the phone is ultra-fast.
Try Linpack and some other benchmarks and post the results.
Or try osmonitor for example and see what the cpu speed does, perhaps it is stuck @ 245 mhz for some reason lol
Ok, my score in Linpack is 6844 (MFLOPS). Don't know if that's good or bad. In BencmarkPi my Nexus One calculates Pi in 2842 miliseconds. And in Neocore I get 26.4 FPS which seems pretty normal to me.
I don't think my problems are hardware related, it more feels like it's the software.
Ow and I ran OSmonitor now and there's something strange. It says Memory Total: 217.440K Free: 67.500K
Is this a known bug or should it say 512MB?

your using eclair without a highmem kernel, thats why it only shows that much RAM. What roms have you tried? Try cyanogens or even stock froyo and see how the speed improves. I think you may be feeling its slow because of the extra animations that werent present during 1.6 which is what the MT3G is on

But the kernel thing doesn't affect the speed? I believe stock Froyo is one of the best I've tried so far. I tried cyanogen too, 5.0.7 I believe, but the launcher was extremely slow on that one.
Or am I flashing my roms the wrong way so things don't run smooth? I just download the .zip files, put them on my sd card, boot into recovery, whipe and flash. Normally it should work that way I believe.
And on my HTC Magic I was using a rom with Sense UI that worked very smooth. Maybe I should try the Desire ports but I like the stock Nexus One UI better.
Also I can't understand why there are developers OC'en the Nexus One? If it's really that fast already why would you risk that you're phone dies quicker for that extra performance?
And I don't hate animations, I even like them, but not if they are choppy.

the kernel is actually the primary factor when it comes to speed. how the kernel manages actions on the phone is the deciding factor on what makes it run fast. you can have a very fast phone hardwarewise, but if the kernel is designed poorly, the phone will run slow as well. Using a kernel that does not have highmem enabled means your probably running an older kernel that does not have updates for speed. the latest froyo kernel has highmem and JIT enabled for faster application use as well as over smoother feel.
i love the animations as well
im coming from the G1 and i havent had any of the of the problems you seem to be having. you are flashing the roms correctly (unless there are additional things such as google apps you need, idk whats the procedure on that for the nexus) Im running fully stock with froyo FRF72.
I would imagine that Desire would be SLOWER than stock android not faster. However the animations may be better optimized. I only used sense on the G1 and it was slow as heck on there (i would have used it all the time otherwise) The main reason that things look so choppy is because rendering is not handled by the GPU, rather the CPU. This puts more strain on the CPU than should be necessary.
I don't get why they OC the CPU either. Seriously, 1gHz is fast for a PHONE. I can understand why when the phone starts getting dated why you would....but its not gonna be dated till at least Q4 2010 when the 1.2-2gHz snapdragons are coming out.
Qualcomm will have a 1.5gHz ready for new phones this year. DUAL-CORE

As for the problem. Sounds weird. Try LauncherPro for a test. That is smooth launcher that flows like butter. If that is choppy then there is something seriously fu-bar going on with yer phone
I've flashed the stock froyo FRF50 now and till now it looks a lot better. OS manager now shows a total of 400MB memory. Is this the normal amount it should show? Or should I be looking for another kernel for froyo? And what is the difference between froyo FRF50 and FRF72?

so is your nexus smooth and fluid now? because mine is very smooth swiping the homescreens. using launcher pro. no choppiness at all.
Stock launchers to me are kinda choppy too. And that was my only complain with the nexus. Like the previous posters advised, try launcher pro and adwlauncher, tweak the settings to your liking and you'll see the difference. As far as kernel for froyo try pershoots kernel, it seems to be very smooth and speedy.

Minor suggestion - install ADW.Launcher (you'll have to tweak the settings a bit to make it nice) or Launcher Pro (works great as is) with your Froyo ROM. You'll thank me for it. The stock launcher scrolling is choppy - always has been, never was really fixed in Froyo (at least as of FRF50 - I haven't even bothered trying it with FRF72).
well I just found this on the market place after giving up on checking daily for a little while.. I'm running cm7 with a Oc kernel ATM but would this run better if I went back to say firefly and suckerpunch or even try out a different kernel for cm7? or is it just going to be a little choppy regaurdless? i was just thinking more ram more oc or a little more stablility mihjt help me out thanks.
edit. come on I have Soviets to kill with my silent pp7 lol
I'm almost sure that there's not much you can do to make it any smoother. I have the emulator and some ROMs for it work fine but others don't. I think its just the app because it was just released and some bugs still need to be worked out. I mean it is N64 so we shouldn't be complaining super Mario 64 plays flawlessly, especially with a wiimote and nunchuck

Its all about rom quality I I could run a n64 emulator on my i7, gtx 260 pc n if i had a bad Tom it would run like crap. I find it hard to play fps on a touch screen. I was trying to play 007 n it was awful
i love all roms
How do u use a wii mote has tht problem been solved
i love all roms
I think it would work best on a Tegra powered phone. Emulation is unoptimized and needs to be brute forced.

I've been noticing lately since flashing gingervolt 2.0 that i get lag quite a bit when playing games even simple ones like angry birds or world of goo as well as just when im scrolling between homescreens or opening or using apps. When I had gingervolt 1.3 with the supercharger script running my phone ran even faster then stock. Like it should. Especially after using setcpu to overclock it to 1.5ghz. Anyone else experience this or have a solution

I am currently running at 1.5ghz actually, cause it seems to be the best balance between Speed and Battery-Life.
If anyone can tell me how to remove the blitzkrieg script itself without having to remove GV 2.0, that would be great. Also, if someone could let me kno if the SuperCharger script will play nice with the Blitzkrieg script, so that way i can just run em both, that would be cool too.

I think that there just has to be too much taking up my system resources and making my phone run slow cause those games should run smooth on my phone. I'm running 1.3 with supercharger script (I believe?) because I have been monitoring the 2.0 thread, and some things stood out for me as potential red flags. Saying that, I purchased "Bejeweled" and it plays brilliantly for about 20 minutes before it turns into the ultimate lag fest. It actually makes my phone look like it's locked up, and the phone produces heat at higher levels than normal.
Most of my racing games hiccup in strange places as well, making them near unplayable (which means I have never tested them up to the 20 minute mark).
Something is definitely off, and I wouldn't be afraid to blame this on the device itself. Heat and response times of this CPU seem to be hit or miss, but so far, on anything semi-strenuous, it appears to be mostly miss.
Anyone else have a different experience? If so, what are you running?
Well when I was playing games on this phone when it was just stock rooted it ran fine and when I has GV 1.3 flashed it ran fine. But ever since flashing GV 2.0 with the blitkrieg kernel it has started lagging out randomly. Its not constant but its more so then it should be. Like I said. When I had GV 1.3 installed. It played games perfectly smooth and when I was jst stock rooted and stock un-rooted it ran perfectly smooth as well. And like I said I'm my last post. I think part of it is I just have s lot of widgets and apps running so they are taking a lot of my system resources up and not leaving much memory for running games and what not. Therefore causing it to lag off and on

The new NFS: MW? I highly doubt that works without lag, I've seen the graphics and they're quite heavy for a mobile game. No single core, 404Mb RAM (in Android) phone could run it smoothly. Even Temple Run has a poor framerate. If you mean the old NFS: MW then that runs perfectly for me without lag, and it doesn't close after a while either.

If you don't, how did you fixed it? I tried with that ram manager pro setted to hard gaming but I don't think it's due RAM.

It plays on the Hd2... But then there is a lot of difference running it on my note 2 and Asus tf300
handwritten from my note 2 (N7100)
