Please, give me some advise before buying SGS

Hello!
In one week I will get this phone and please- give me some answers.
I would like to root it and to put some very good custom rom and kernel as well as lag fix. My questions are:
Whitch complete programs for PC do I need for all these operations?
Would you give me a link for the best custom (or not custom) rom with Froyo, also for the custom overclocked kernel?
Also for good instructions how to do it?
I am asking because I have been used Milestone and Hero, there everything is clear for me, but here I am noob..
there is a sticky FAQ post with all the answers.

[Q] Help! Help! Help! Help!.....needed!!

Hi all!!
I am a SGS i9000 user from Finland. Currently I am using official Froyo:: xwjpa ( buildnumber) and I9000xxjpp (baseband version ) on my cell phone! the phone is lock free, i mean, its not locked!! I can use in any networks anywhere!! The main point of my post is that you guys talk about lag fix and custom firmwares and bla bla. But when I go through the post I just dont find anything except ROOT, FLASH, MOD bla bla,....sorry that I am a newbie user and dont know much about this terms! I am much disappointed about the lag problems. The phone has around 4 pages of apps ( i hope you understand what I mean). I am sad with its GPS too. But , mostly i am dissappointed about the speed that it gives though i belive it have good configuration.
Can Anyone help me about installing custom firmwares, and how to do so, and as well the best one so that i can feel the race on the track!!
heheh, sorry for the poor english language!!
kiitos!!
Your best and easiest solution is OCLF. It is available on the market and you can read about it here:

[Q] Go from stock 2.1 to custom ROM

Hi, I apologise if this has already been recapped elsewhere but I am really struggling to find an solution that I can actually use.
Basically, my partner has a SGS GT-i9000 running 2.1 update-1 and it has become unusable due to lagging and short battery life.
I have a Desire HD which I have managed to root and install CM7 on and I want to be able to help her install a custom ROM. Based solely on looks I would like to get her Darky's ROM.
I have searched around the web and have come up short as to how to go from basic handset all the way to having a custom ROM installed. Can anyone advise the easiest and safest way to get this done?
Again, apologies if this is the wrong forum or if this is answered elsewhere.
Basically follow the instructions in the individual rom post FAQs etc
2.2.1 may be available from the Kies update function for your phone .

[Q] Rooting Rogers Galaxy S Captivate( Some questions)

Hello! First off thank you for taking sometime to help me out with a few questions about rooting my new Samsung Galaxy S. I've been itching to root it ever since I watched some lag fix videos in aw as to how much better the phone seems to perform, before I do go through with it I have a few questions hoping to be answered. Also last thing my device is up to date with Froyo 2.2.
First off I will be using this : (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682) to root my device, will this work fine?
Second questions is if I root my device and a gingerbread comes out as an official update can I go about updating it normally through Kies?Same goes for google updates like the new market update. (I am not interested in changing the ROM at the moment)
-Will Kies still recognize the device normally as I use it for importing music and such.
Lastly which lagfix should I use? Voodoo? It seems that Voodoo is meant to work with the GT-I9000 or does it work with the captivate too? Or do I use the oneclicklagfix on the Market?
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me and if there's any thing about the phone you need to know please do ask and Ill gladly provide you with extra information.
Thanks again!
Ibby
