[Q] Travelling to Europe. Need Mobile Plans. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I am travelling to Europe and am planning to visit Germany, France, Netherlands and Italy on a holiday.
I just wanted to know, if there are any good mobile plans / connections that I can get with data. I want to use Google Navigation mainly and also try and check my mails and such on the move.
Thanks in advance for your help in advance.

Best to try a Vodafone or T-Mobile plan. They are the best for coverage and deals over those countries.

You will not be able to use the same plan/sim card for those countries, cross country roaming is very expensive.

You could download NIMBUZZ, add Skype to it and then just talk when you have a wifi hotspot. They are everywhere in Europe.

Direct Push when roaming

Hi All,
Does anyone know of any problems using direct push when roaming? We have a guy in Holland using a British Telecom SIM card, and it refuses to push email onto the Kaiser.
Thanks
In activesync, click Menu, then Schedule.
Is "Use above settings when roaming" checked?
Thanks for the reply! I've asked the question to our man in Holland, will let you know the answer...
Thanks
Hope you are ready for the data bill...
Cheers Kyphur, worked a treat! As for the data bill, there's probably not much we can do as the guy "roams" all over europe on business. Unless someone can recommend a provider that has low roaming charges???
Cheers
Does anyone know which is cheaper for the 'roamers' Active sync or Blackberry?
We have a mixture, just trying to decide how to best ditribute to the users.
Many thanks!
Chapelhill
I'm not sure about European carriers but here is the US (ATT) if you have a Blackberry you can get a plan that includes unlimited international data. So there would be no roaming data charges then.

You may just have to wait till July:

€0.25 a megabyte is rather steep still: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/07/roaming_data_cut/
£95 a month will get you a 5Gb fair usage and 200 mb roaming http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispat...fpb=true&_pageLabel=template11&pageID=BS_0031

few question about buying the incredible s

hello gaise,
I'm from malaysia, and about to go to the US to pursue my studies.
I'm thinking about getting this phone in malaysia, but what I'm really concern is whether this phone will be compatible with the US network or it would be end up sitting in a trashcan somewhere in states. Should I just bought my phone in the US???
Since I only know this 2 network operator, at&t and tmobile.what is the best carrier in the sense of their wireless coverage and data plans ?
thank you in advance

wierd place to ask this question. But the 710a is for at&t and the 710e will work on t-mobile. You can go to their websites and look up their 3g/4g coverage wherever you plan to be. If money is not a problem, I would go with AT&T.

[Q] N1 (US tmo) in Spain, Portugal, and Italy

I'm trying to figure where to get a SIM from for an upcoming trip to Madrid Spain+surrounding areas, Porto Portugal, and the island of Sardinia Italy. I see they have Vodafone in all three countries. Can I just get one prepaid from them and have it for the entire 3 weeks?
I generally find all the answers to my questions here with out posting, but this is super confusing to me for some reason. I'm not even confident that I'm choosing the right providers based on the bands I have in the Tmobile N1 I have.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I would certainly appreciate it. Once I know who to shop with I can probably figure out a good plan for myself, but just in case, I'm looking for about 3 weeks worth of 3g data (hopefully) and handful of minutes that I can use for those three countries. Most of Sardinia is off the beaten path, so I dont expect much there.
Thanks everyone. :good:

Firstly, T-Mobile USA uses the same frequencies as European carriers, so that's something you don't need to worry about.
Secondly, although they all have Vodafone, you can't use all 3 of them on the same prepaid sim for local prices. If you buy a Portuguese Vodafone prepaid sim, you will have to pay (higher) roaming prices in Spain and Italy. Don't know the exact prices though, but I'm sure you can find something on the world wide web about it. I'm also sure there are cheaper budget carriers available in al 3 countries, so I wouldn't go for Vodafone.
Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the info about Vodafone. If it seems to convenient it probably is lol.
For Spain I found Yoigo. 1.29euro a day for data. Sold! But I'm reading on another forum that it is UMTS only? Am I still good to go for that? Does that just mean it's only going to work in the city?

Telstra is the best network provider in Australia, hands down. He can pick up a prepaid SIM from Telstra stores and most supermarket chains. Their prepaid deals are pretty decent, I use them myself. Optus are pretty reliable too and they have some good prepaid deals.

Telstra can be expensive if you're on a plan/contract. But in my experience their prepaid deals are very good value, I pay $30 a month and I get 1.3gb of data and plenty of calls/sms. There are many different style plans and value amounts for each plan. He could go with a cheap provider but he'll get cheap (spotty) coverage. You can have a look at their prepaid plans on their site:

Wi-Fi Calling UK CPW

I'm on Sky Mobile.
I don't think the network matters in this case because the setting is not on the phone. It has been activated by the network.

Ah that's why. Phones from CPW and other non Samsung sellers have the XEU firmware. That firmware only supports the WiFi calling and VOLTE for the main networks EE, Voda, Three, O2. And this is a recent update. Same goes for Samsung BTU firmware. Some MVNOs like BT Mobile work fine as they own EE and use their settings. Looking at Google sky do not support the note 9 for WiFi calling.

This is from sky. Just looks like they've not added note 9 yet.
Currently available on the following Sky Mobile devices:
Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S9 and S9+.Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ2 and XA2.Keep a look out for more compatible devices coming soon.

BTU, or any UK one. Not sure you'd get the extra features unless sky activate it themselves. Many companies who piggy back off one of the main carriers don't have WiFi calling /volte

Hmmm it is hit or miss as the BTU/XEU seems to have only the main networks I think.

This is why I only go with main networks now. Flash anything and I seem to have features. The other smaller piggyback companies have some good deals. But no extra features.
Virgin mobile... £20 a month unlimited calls and texts with 100gb data! No wifi/volte. My boy has it now lol

Was a retention deal and I still pay the same and I am now on a rolling 30 day contract. There was a time last year when all the networks had a gigabyte war! Now they not so generous. I would prefer to go back to EE as three aren't the best network for reception and they have no 4G roaming yet but hey ho. I'm a slut!!!!!
