[Q] Best ROM for X1? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got an SE Xperia X1
All excited to try it out, however it has just got freshly put on an WM6.5 (an english one, as the previous owner was using a WM6.5 Chinese one on it). This one seems to be operating a little oddly, and slowly. I'm almost certain it is an HTC ROM as it has a "HTC Calendar".
So I'm thinking I should replace it, what is the best option? It looks like the Android options are a little shaky, which won't do as I'll be using this phone every day (intensively, sending hundreds if not thousands of txts per month, and various calls, apps, etc...).
So... is there an excellent WM6.5 option? With SE panels?

Go for UnOff Infinite or X1.5, then read a lot about different roms and make a decision yourself. The best rom is a rom that fits your needs best.

Which ROM would make it the most similar to the Xperia X2?

Greetings to fellow NZer!!!! I tried a few ROMs and decided to stick with 6.1-based for speed and stability. I also wanted TF3D. I suggest you look at descriptions, pictures and read comments. If the thread consists of thousands of posts - read the last 5 pages or so, they will be most likely to be for the updated version in the first post.
Last time I went to Auckland, I noticed the abysmal Voda coverage, even in the middle of the city, hopefully whatever radio you have on will work well.
I also tried a bunch of others without problems, have to find the exact names, which escapes me now... Try a few each day, flashing is done in minutes, so play around, see how it looks and whether it performs to your expectations. Read ahead on the bugs, of course.

Go into the ROM section and check what's there!

Cool you're in NZ too, I haven't noticed any trouble before now.. but I've been using a Sony Ericsson Aino on XT, the Xperia X1 however will be VF.
From what I've seen I'll lose all my data each time I switch ROMs, am I right? (txts, emails, photos, contacts)
Would be handy if there was a stickied thread with the say the "top five" ROMs as voted by the community, would make it much easier to decide on things for a newbie as the ROM forum can be intimidatingly large to get started with
Just out of curiosity, may I ask what WM6.1 are you using?

Jerpleas ROM. The Unoff ROMS don't work so well with panels.

NUTS 10.9 - never a glitch. And yes, you will lose everything you have, similar to reinstalling Windows after a fresh format.
The best thing if you want to try many ROMs is to install just your 'can't live without' things and settings in order to check they all work. I have all my .CABs on a card, so it's a more or less set procedure. Speaking of VFNZ, some ROMs will run automatic setup and quite a few of them have wrong settings, so I recommend keeping the .CAB and skip the automated process. The only ROM i had seen with correct settings so far was the latest NRGY Cookie GTX.

thanks for that! Unfortunately my battery died and I discovered the charger is not compatible with NZ powerpoints! So my experimenting shall have to wait until next week.... but I've filled up a bookmark folder with a dozen links to ROMs I've got my eyes on.
Still don't know which one I'll try first! I'll simply have to play spin the bottle.

Do what I did - see the largest number of replies to the thread with the last pages containing a lot of thanks And screenshots, of course.

I've used 826x and also valkyrie v7, really nice ROM, smooth and also stable

hi
i also using Val V7.0. no complain. but need to view chinese wording and type chinese. any one can help?

rom?
what is the fastst rom wm6.1 / 6.5 that support sense 2.1? like jack 3.x for the speed and energy rom for sense design... but without cookietab, simple and clean sense 2.1

Make sure you check out EnergyRoms also, I'm tried all his roms, some still have the SoD bug but The "Energy Photon" and no problems at all...but flash flash flash....its the only way to be sure

Just my opinion,
Jerpelea's is the best for non HTC Stuffs, look like X2 stuffs inside.
Energy ROM or x826 Williyung for best HTC Stuff inside.

Benefit to Diff Roms?

Hey guys im new here, just have a few questions. So i've been doing some reading on flashing different roms to the TyTn. Whats the advantage of this? I just got my ATT Tilt a few weeks ago and dont wanna mess it up. Is there a performance benefit? Call quality? Different features. I hear about people loading the default htc rom. Is this better in any way than the one that ships with att? Thanks in advance.
Hi, Welcome aboard.
Actually, by my own (short) experience, using a cooked ROM, can be synonymous of performance benefit, increased call quality, different features, different aspect, functionality and a lot more… I recommend you to read some more things about in the specific thread of a ROM and compare it to the features of your shipped ROM…
But, firs of all, DO NOT FORGET TO READ:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
cheers
Some of the new roms on here are such a big difference from the factory rom that you'll feel like you've got a new phone, others are closer to the stock roms. I know everyone is always a little wary the first couple times of flashing (and bricking) their $400 phone, but in reality it's actually pretty safe (just don't do anything dumb with your computer or phone while it's in the process). If you looked at the amount of flashing that goes on in this forum vs. the amount of cases where a phone gets actually gets bricked I'm sure the results would say that flashing is successful 99.9% of the time and the other 0.1% is most likely due to hardware or user error. Long story short, flash your phone to whatever Dutty's latest is and you won't be disappointed!
I guess ill have to give this a try. considering my phone locks up enough to annoy me and calls drop lol. oh and I can barely hear the person on the other side cuz the volume sounds just too low. Im coming from the blackbery curve to this, I never had a dropped call. hopefully a new rom will cure some of my troubles.

Please let me know which ROM you go with, and how you like it. I'm in a similar situation to you, I just bought mine. I had an HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) before, and did a lot of flashing on that, but haven't tried on the Tilt since it came stock with WM6 anyway I didn't initially see the point. Now I'm starting to hear of a lot of people liking these ROMs better.
I'm running Dutty's latest and let me be the first to say it is great. I have no problems whatsoever. It's faster, easier to use plus with a ton of mods to make life easier all the way around.

Thanks! I'll have to try that out later on. It seems that one is the one everyone likes.
glad I could help.
Just to add another question, does anyone have any experience with different ROM "chefs?" I like Dutty's stuff so far, but I'm hearing things about a "Schaps" and some other chefs.
I'm not trying to pit them against each other (as I appreciate their contributions), but who's your favorite chef, and what is his/her best "dish?"

i like schaps but i dont like the purple. other than that, no problems with it.
just a personal preference
I cant wait to start messing around with this stuff. Hopefully i stop dropping calls lol as well as gain performance.
Schaps makes good ROMs. But does not have a HTC phone so the support is not there. With the Kaiser i suggest a vanilla (clean) ROM and install the programs that you like to storage card. There is plenty of memory in this phone to do that you need.
Would you consider Dutty's "lite" ROMs to be "vanilla?" Or are you talking about stock ROMS?
Now I'm noticing that there's "XDA Live." Anyone want to explain that to me? Are there certain blokes on this forum who make "official" ROMs for this site?
Confused.
I'm running XDA-Live and it is most like the stock ATT ROM- Kyphur pretty much took the stock ATT ROM and stripped it bare, (vanilla ROM). Graphically it is not at all like Schaps/Dutty's etc. They are using the stock HTC ROM as a base with the huge clock and the HTC Home layout and icons. I personally don't like the visual layout of those ROMs and think that clock is taking up WAY to much valuable real estate. With XDA-Live you have alot of free storage and you can add anything back into it that you want. Really customizable.

How about Custel or Q-Mobile or Sleuth or Alex? Maybe I'll just post a survey...
Is it possible to go back to the stock ATT ROM. Ive had it with dropping calls freezing. Time to flash this thing.
Stock ROM date
I love the ROMs being cooked up here on these forums.
However, before flashing any of the ROMs, I now believe a little research is important. For example, I bought a TyTn II just this week, and its stock ROM shows a date of Oct 29, 2007. Whereas the latest Dutty ROM from December 12 shows a base date of Aug 28, 2007. Thus important official changes from HTC could be lost by flashing to a ROM with an base date earlier than the officially released ROM.
Is there any place where ROM wizards post a ChangeLog in a sticky thread? There's all kinds of new ROM threads floating around, and it's hard for a noob to figure out which version of which ROM to use.
I actually loaded Dutty's latest rom, and my phone is extrememly stable right now. Havent dropped a call, calls have better quality and are louder. Phone moves much faster as well. VERY happy with my phone that i was about to use as a paperweight yesterday. lol.
What is Dutty's latest rom?? Never even heard of it lol link?

Happy WM 6.1 users join here

Wow. Unbelievable how many threads are opened with problem with the newly released ROM at HTC-e Club. I downloaded my version too from that site the moment I saw announcement here. First of all, I did not get a mail from HTC at all, should have liked that in the first place.
I decided not yet to install. Luckily a good decision it seems according to that huge list of complaints.
Normally a forum is always only full of complaints, no one is posting when all things a good (enough), so that is not surprising me at all.
But of all users that installed this new ROM version, aren't there any people who are satisfied? That is what I was wondering. So just leave you name and a message here if all works well, so I can be convinced to also try this new version myself.
[Edit]Hopefully this list will be long [/Edit]
Apart from a few complaints that I had, I think that there are actually many things that are improved, for example the graphics when you turn portrait to landscape...and this is a remarkable one. And also, you are able to 'zoom in' in the latest Internet Explorer (WM6.1 standard one).
i was happy user with WM 2003, and later with WM2003 SE, and later with WM5, and later with WM6, and now with WM6.1... so you can say i'm a happy user in general i beleave you can be a happy user with any Mobile OS... i beleave is a choice...
Cheers
Very happy here. I'm running the official 6.1 ROM with the accompanying HTC SPL (overwriting the Hard SPL I used previously, as mine is a Vodafone branded phone) and it's far more responsive device - no more pauses or missed button presses, very little waiting around generally, and certain tasks like browsing files are markedly quicker. The new features (threaded SMS and improved IE) are good, having the camera and bluetooth fixes in ROM is worthwhile, and the whole package just feels like a much better, snappier device.
If I had to criticise it on anything, I'd say that at times the GPS can be slower to get a lock on - but then, at other times, it seems very quick - so I probably need to test that some more.
Im pretty happy myself
especially when I go from portrait to landscape
it loads up the screen real fast.
Found no grounds for complaints as of now (4 days and counting). Using the SWE version of the official update.
Happy user here!

me happy 2
Yes I confim being happy by the new official 6.1 release from HTC ... I was never happy with any cooked rom except with only one 2003 rom I had to cook it myself to add certain applications I didn't want to loose them with hard reset ...
with so much due respect to all gurus and chefs here, but playing with the core components and registry tweaks are not gauarnteed to hold against all types of applications a user may decide to install later ... actually this is the main reason for most of complaints.
I only didn't like the new threaded sms, but it's only a matter of small tweak .. but all the rest is so fine for me.
After about 3 flashes. a lil bit contented... but not happy.
The only reason i stick with this official rom is because i am kind of a purist, there are other very good roms from various cooks on this forum. But i prefer this one becasue its just generic* and i consider it pure from the manufacturer without person tweaks as a result of peoples personal preferences.
Sorry, I'm NOT happy with the latest official HTC 6.1 ROM.
BUT, I'm running udK's Vega R0 WM6.1 ROM for weeks, and I'm very happy with that one!
I'm very happy with the original release! It's working very fast here.
My screen flips very fast too.
But if you were to try the HTC rom with the HTC SPL your opinion might change!
Personally, I think, like Boingg, that the new ROM is great PROVIDED you re-install the HTC SPL.
As another person also said, there are some very good cooked ROM's here, but while they introduce some speed/performance improvements, they can also introduce their own bugs. One cook in particular seems intent on providing quantity over quality by uploading a new ROM seemingly every hour - always amuses me when I read the responses, like 'What a great rom, I am wetting myself its sooooooo good!! - By the way, here's a list of the bugs I found' (This isn't a direct quote, but you get the idea!!). I think at the end of day that the ROM that has been designed for a particular device will always be better than one that has been manhandled from elsewhere - although some of the ported ROM's do get pretty close, there is always some niggle or other.
Anyway, I will stop rambling.... yes I am happy with the HTC ROM but I reserve the right to re-flash at any time!
I'm using the WWE version and am happy with it so far.

Do you plan on doing something with this data/poll/etc....
Or is this a venting thread
This is a developer's forum .... not tech support or customer service
The purpose of this forum is to develop
If you've been around these devices for a while, you'll know that factory ROMz are the worst. Page Pools are set low, they contain alot of unwanted bloatware for compaines to brand their devices and as a result of this, storage space is low.
These ROMz however, provide a base for devlopers to work with. These are the ROMz that 95% of us have on our devices. On that note, we should be thankful that ROMz are updated by manufacturers....beacuase, again it provides raw materials to work with.
Try joining a manufacturer or carrier forum where thoughts & concerns of the ROMz in question can be viewed by representatives of the manufacturers.
Rom behavior:
There's no such thing as a perfect ROM. Some work better than others. What works good for me on my device may not work for you....
Factory or Cooked
D W N Y +1
Development is the name of the game. Move the thread to Walala land
And no, you should not be fooled feling "happy" with a glimp of possibilities provided by HTC. Nice quote "raw materials".
(and believe me, I DO know how they "develop" @ HTC here. They still learn from our own chefs (from outside the mouth of the horse)
I am Glad to see the WWE Official version out now.
Now that the Official version is out I will wait for our resident cooks to make a good rom out of it. Since the first day I got the Tilt I Hard SPL'ed it and got rid of the AT&T bloat and flashed a Schaps rom. I did try the new WWE from HTC but had some problems with it but I didn't take the time to try a different radio. So I am sure with the correct radio it would have been better then the one it came with. Depending on where you live your carrier and the service offered in your area have a lot to do with what radio works best. At least that has been my experience. But the one thing I know that is I seem to prefer the cooked roms if they use an official base. So I will wait and hopefully Schaps will be releasing soon. Thats my 2 cents!
Ed...
happy user, but could be happier.

[POLL] What ROM would you recommend to people?

This thread is for people like me, who don't know what ROM to choose from a list of many ROMs from many great chefs.
I am keeping my poll options empty for the time being as I have only played with a few ROMs without any guidance. I will begin to populate them as I start to see a few specific ROMs appearing consistantly.
I would like to ask the community of xda-developers to come by and help populate this thread with simple comments
and/or recommendations on what ROM(s if you have multiple devices) you use on your Rhodium/Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2 device.
Also, please also add what kind of user your are, or how/why you use your phone with 'said' ROM.
Additionally beneficial would be letting users know what ROM you recently used prior to your recommendation and the offsets you experience in general.
ie. ROM A is the one I recommend. However, ROM B does a few things a bit better, although ROM A is the one I would recommend to people who like smooth, quick eyecandy filled ROMs.
I also ask for intelligent, constructive critique on what you think about the ROM that you are commenting upon.
No one needs to know about what piece of profanity you would like to tack on 'user A' for saying '10101' about 'ROM B' or vice-versa.
This is meant to be a resource for new users to xda-developers, like I was, and to new owners of the HTC Touch Pro 2/Rhodium, Windows Mobile phone.
Candidly, I would like to have the moderator's support in keeping this a clean thread to have an easier (and more pleasant) navigation throughout the thread.
I would like to start off with creating a list of ROMs organized by chef name and OS/TouchFlo 3D version.
Underneath each ROM and their links (I will either find the ROM myself, or if you can be so helpful enough to link it onto your post
within this thread), I will be adding the pros and cons that are mentioned here, and that I have found as well.
To let you know a bit about my bias, I am looking for the following items;
-Speed
--Not only operating speed, going from interface to interface, but also how it handles multitasking.
--I usually do these three together; GPS, music, web browsing/text messaging
-User Friendliness
--From first stepping into the ROM, to using it for a couple of days and seeing it's inevitable and understandable flaws and offsets.
--Customizing settings on the ROM, and the ease to have certain things.
-Miscellaneous
--Other things such as the way the ROM will handle things such as the
unsightly error of TouchFlo 3D 2.5 and it's lack of Landscape viewing ability.
--These items will account for my general accountability on the topic of
"Would I (highly) recommend to my friend, who may be the same as, or a completely different user than, me."
My history with phones;
I have first used Motorola phones, starting with the t220 (apparently one of the first camera phones) moving to the RAZR V6 MAXX
(quite a glam, nice looking phone with great features, but poor connectivity issues with network and bluetooth) and a few years ago
Sony Ericsson phones such as the W810, K850 and the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1a.
Most recently;
I have late last year, used a BlackBerry BOLD 9000, and in the past 3 months, trialed the Sony Ericsson XPERIA.
Without much ROM customization, the stock ROM was fun to play with, but lacked the easy access and user interface speed that
I have become accustomed to with the BlackBerry BOLD 9000. However, in seeing the Touch Pro 2 and purchasing it, I can now fully indulge in customizing
it with ROMs to fit my needs, though I am still painfully without hardware keys to have quick access to my browser, music or GPS.
However, I suppose the full 5 row keyboard makes up for the lack of hardware buttons elsewhere on the body.
Currently, I am using my Touch Pro 2, mainly as a resource device. What do I mean by this? I am using it with a SIM Card that only has data services.
I have installed programs such as Japanese dictionaries, phrase banks and linguistic aids to help in my study of the Japanese language.
I also use this for school (I am currently in grade 11, high school) using this device as my quick access to the internet (even though I have my blackberry).
I suppose having new devices is an obsession for me, as with a few others on here.
I'm looking for ROMs that will allow me quick and easy access to the programs that I frequent the most such as my Japanese programs, GPS,
music, web browser, notes, M-Soft Word and also allow me to freely multitask with them.
I know that this is mainly hardware dependent, but I have learned that some ROMs take up less RAM space, as to free up some more coasting speed for programs to run on.

You might be wasting your time since a mod most likely will close this thread...
How come?
If I'm making a bit too bias (on what I'm looking for) then I won't include my own opinion. That's fine.
But I want to have something like what the Kovsky/Sony Ericsson XPERIA forum has.
A ROM index, but enhanced with things such as recommendations, and owner/users & chef comments.

I am not sure why, the last few times someone asked which ROM was best the mods closed the thread. They claim it cuases flame wars and such.
Personally, I dont mind, like the idea and I was just giving you a heads up. Maybe you should ask a mod before your proceed further.
I would say this poll would avoid other threads like "what do you think is the best rom" or "can you advise me some rom"
So thumbs up
the best way to keep one thread like this is :
take one benchmark.. and test all the rom.. and post all result here
like topaz one
otherwise will locked soon
Benchmark?
"How does Benchmark?"
I think.. by emulating the ROM's speed and multitasking capabilities and such?
I want to know, not by computer, but by people why 'said' ROM is great.
Honestly, this is my story here;
I heard that ROMeOS's ROM for the Rhodium was great, although I had first saw Athine OS (both the light and Titanium builds with 2.1 and 2.5 Manila, 6.1 and 6.5 WinMo) and saw the pictures of the interface were just completely amazing.
So I downloaded them, but saw that they ran.. just the same as my stock ROM (at quite the same speed), though it was much cleaner than my Telstra stock ROM which was confuddled with many apps and things that I didn't need. And the light blue theme just didn't do it for me.
So then I just recently (actually last night) installed the ROMeOS ROM on my TP2 and found it so fun to have so much control upon things such as background wallpaper (both for lock screen and home screen tab). Also things such as backlighting, edit tabs, set up bluetooth, set up data, ringtones, message notifications ALMOST EVERYTHING customizable (that you would usually have to go in and out of menus for on the stock WWE ROM, and sometimes the Athine ROM) was located in one simple tab. Neigh, a simple section within a tab that had even more customization for other things on the phone.
THAT! That was most likely made this ROM popular, and it really did get into my good books quickly... until I found out that Manila 2.5 doesn't support Landscape.
I feel like I should either.. move onto another ROM, or just live with it.
I'm using Gyrator 2 along with my ROM, and it DID have the event action NOT to have auto rotate in Manila.. even though.. I want it to...
This above.. I'm looking for comments such as this, except from other, MORE experienced users with better opinions. Who hopefully can dumb it down so that people like me and many others, still fairly new to Windows Mobile, xda-developers and the HTC Touch Pro 2/Rhodium alike, can understand.
I believe.. that this should be something like a collaborative blog.
Just reading back up on my post right now, it's almost as if I were reading someone's story.
Many users might not want to go through that, and others may just want to write something to have their experience heard.
What I want to do is sift through all of that, and just have the comments, positive or negative, tacked onto each ROM in a list.
My ROMs Listing post.
Right by each description from each Chef.
Maybe it'll be reason enough for mods to keep this alive, maybe it won't be.
But... saving the effort of going through each ROM (there are about... 6-10, give or take 5^x) in which said thread for said ROM has 10+ pages of posts, usually around the vicinity of 30-50.
That is A LOT OF READING.
useless information
personally, this is useless information and i don"t go by polls. The best information is based on users" signature. I also take time to read, instead of relying on polls.

Benchmark?
"How does Benchmark?"
I think.. by emulating the ROM's speed and multitasking capabilities and such?
I want to know, not by computer, but by people why 'said' ROM is great.
Honestly, this is my story here;
I heard that ROMeOS's ROM for the Rhodium was great, although I had first saw Athine OS (both the light and Titanium builds with 2.1 and 2.5 Manila, 6.1 and 6.5 WinMo) and saw the pictures of the interface were just completely amazing.
So I downloaded them, but saw that they ran.. just the same as my stock ROM, though it was much cleaner than my Telstra stock ROM which was confuddled with many apps and things that I didn't need.

How does one know which is best if they do not try them all? You mentioned two ROMs but have not mentioned the others. Can you give valid opinion on which you think is best without trying them all? Everyone has different tastes.
Those are just some of the things the mods may say and have said.
Like what I said, I don't mind a thread like this and wish there was a way to do this in a way that was more subjective.
Maybe there needs to be an official ROM judge
Edit
Well that won't work either.
The only for you to know what ROM is best for you is to try them all until you find one that you like for yourself.

Then.. maybe not polls?
What other way would be the best to;
1) save you time from reading a couple dozen to a couple hundred posts everytime you got a new device (though we're only talking about the Rhodium, and if you've read all those posts, I suppose you're a lost cause that I want to avoid being like, and want to help others avoid being as such as well)
2) Get you the accurate information on what are the highlights of the ROMs
2b) Without all the different ways that each chef sets up their forum posts to explain what their ROM does
2c) And have it all in one common format
3) Not many people post their ROMs on their signatures. I just saw it around as a growing
@At0mAng
Thank you for your opinion at this time of night.
Yes, did only mention (actually it was) three roms.
However, that is just only my input.
I've yet to trial the Miri ROM(s) and the Energy ROMs, just to name a few.
But mainly, I want simple, quick or concise comments on which ROMs a good/great and for what reason. Is it some part of the ROM? Does it perform better in the way that you've explained that you are using your TP2? Etc?
Yes.. everyone has different tastes, but they can mention what they like about 'said' ROM and help people become objective by the comments made here, and the quick pros and cons that have been tabulated onto the second post of this forum for quick reference as to which ROM does what best, or includes which great feature.
Edit;
This thread isn't here to decide Which ROM is the NUMBER ONE (for YOU)?!
It's to help guide newcomers to xda-developers, the HTC Touch Pro 2/Rhodium and Windows Mobile (all together) choose which ROM to pick.
I mean.. for new people, they have probably heard of ROMs, but don't know what to do with it.
What the heck is a HardSPL and flashing it?
Or, naturally after coming from the HardSPL resource sticky, one does suddenly freeze up and get stuck before spending 3-5 hours reading posts and choosing which ROM to pick and install, only to find out it doesn't really meet their requirements and move on to another one with a HUGE amount of wasted effort.
This here is to help people like that make more objective decisions, much quicker with the pros and cons of each ROM outlined and defined.
ROM Review template?

I am not sure why, the last few times someone asked which ROM was best the mods closed the thread. They claim it cuases flame wars and such.
Personally, I dont mind, like the idea and I was just giving you a heads up. Maybe you should ask a mod before your proceed further.

Completely agree with At0mAng and I like this idea. I don't understand the fear of flame wars either. Just ban the people who start flaming and can't have a normal discussion.
As for this thread, maybe we could all post reviews of a ROM in a certain template. E.g. give grades for speed, apps, stability, eye candy, etc... Some people look for speed and clean ROMs, others just for the most fully apped ROMs. With a review template, you could have a quick overview of what a ROM performs best on and make your pick.
It's Right!

It's not the point of this thread to find THE best ROM, but to find the most suitable ROM that fits your needs, at a glance...
Normally these threads are just closed as At0mAng said, but that would be unfair to the OP who's invested a fair old bit of time in this. It isn't the usual format and could be beneficial.
I've said before, that there isn't a forum rules preventing these threads, they are just closed because most of the people who create them are lazy noobs. If this threads is successful, then it "should" lead to less new threads.
I'm now subscribed and will monitor it, if it does degrade in to pretty much a Chef A vs Chef B thread, then I'll close it.
Thanks
Dave
Hi,
I'd like to take the opportunity to try to find a ROM which fits my needs: is there any Rom out there with WM 6.5, quicker than the stock ROM (if one can compare), with as few bugs as possible, still keeping Manilla 2.1 ? By the way, I am not interested in aesthetics, nor in software when the cab is available to install by myself. I only tested EnergyROM Genesis up to now, which is excellent, bug free as far as I can tell, but with many applications, very good aesthetics, maybe speed could improve with lighter graphics... Is there any quicker ROM here ?
On a side note, I find that the virtual keyboard of the TP2 is slow, e.g. changing from alpha to numeric takes too much time (then the first digit you type is ignored), does any ROM (or cab) improve this ?
Recommended ROM
I agree with the moderator that this poll (purely on the basis of statistics) is an interesting experiment and should not be stopped. It is vital though that people who vote have tested a significant number of the roms available.
I tested all the roms available on the 20-25 Sep period (7-8 of them) and I ended up using NRGZ28's Leo Manila 2.5 ROM as the most stable, fast, good looking. Essentially I encounter no bugs in every day use and I would recommend this rom to any TP2 user.

Best Sense 2.5 Rom?

I've stayed away from anything Manilla for months now. I was tired of a sluggish interface. However I was thinking about giving it another shot to see what our fantastic chefs were able to do it it. So in everyone's opinion what is currently the FASTEST 2.5 rom out there that uses the WM 6.5.5. Any input would be much appreciated.
Oh and another thing I was curious about. Another reason I stopped using it was because it didn't really cooperate well with Iconsoft Phonex. Does anyone know if they clash still? (One example of a problem i had was HTC favorite contacts wouldn't go through to place a call when clicking a contact)
thanks
opinion here
read, try and find out 4 yourself
best
I am asking for speed, that is something measurable. I remember people would ask these all the time and quite often there was a general consensus like "Try Touch X Final. Its super fast!" or "Oh man! spikegotti's UnOff series is the best!"
So i was just wondering if there was a specific ROM that most people had more success with than others. If you don't have an answer or are annoyed by the thread I am sorry, but no one is forcing you to post an answer. I was just looking for anyone that had legitimate input. I'd prefer not to completely waste two days flashing every single ROM only to find out that i still dont really like manilla
Well, then do some research on your own. You know, users talk about how they felt the speed is like in threads of different roms. Have a look what rom appeals to you and then read some comments...would not be bad, would it?
I agree with other people, but I would also advice to start your searching from Valkyrie TR 6.0.28232
Try Valkyrie's rom. In my opinion it's fast, stable and you have all needed applications preinstalled
To help your case:
click the link in my signature. There are pretty good, fast, stable and bug-less roms on that blog. Also you could try blaze or valkyries like it has been mentioned already.
So except Valkryie is there another ROM that has Sense 2.5 and stable...Thanx a TON!!
I've just installed this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637679
and its quite good so far.
Touch-IT BR 21893
I've flashed this one awhile ago and its working perfectly for me. So fast and stable but i disabled HTC messaging, u can search for the cab here in the forum... Cheers!
Go for Rotastrain's Blaze!
It's fast and stable, and any bugs are usually dealt with immediately.

Does the battery drain, also do u have the SOD(Phone freezing after sleep mode) and more than that, is it stable??
I genuinely recommend NRG's Energy Leo 23541 build - i've been using it for just over a week and it is simply amazing; with all my own apps added to the plethora of USEFUL apps already installed, it still flies along at top speed.
Note: Best practise is always to flash the ROM, then hard reset (Press the reset button whilst holding down the two front buttons under the screen) - this ensures best speed/stability!
See the ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562935
Baring in mind i'm a tight b****rd; i have actually donated for this ROM. That says something!!

Not sure about hte SOD issue you speak about.. if you mean does the phone freeze after I've unlocked the screen lock then no I generally havent experianced any freezeing on the phone since installing this ROM so basically I find it very stable.

[Q] BEST ROM for Touch Diamond2

Hello,
I got my first windows mobile device Diamond2 as a gift today and looking for a good OS here.
Can you please suggest one for me?
I will also download some from ROM page and try.
Do not forget to look into the WiKi before asking a question
Taken from the WiKi
Shipped ROMs for Topaz
Cooked ROMs for Topaz
Radio ROMs for Topaz
Success,
Senax
Thanks friend for reply.
I was just reading the WiKi page and seen all those.... but I am confused what ROM I should select SO looking for a generic feedback on what is good what is bad.
Actually I dont want ROM to be loaded with so many app. Looking for similar to what I have in mobile now but updated version...
I hope your device has latest Official ROM installed.
You will get all custom ROMs here which are mainly modify version of the Official ROM and has latest SYS/Builds and new Packages (new applications like adobe reader).
These ROMs are good, but NOT all ROM will satisfy every one. i.e ROM1 may good for person1 and person 4, but person 2 and 3 may like ROM2.
So it is good to test all available food and decide which dish tests you a lot .
Hope this will help.
Thanks.
With all the respect to your very correct and right answer (prabhat), this is in my opinion, very first and tha main problem, why the more and more people will switch to devileshed i-phone. The main difference betwen i-phone and wm 6.5 dev. is the "user-friendly" parameter. In no discuss, the wm 6.5 is more professional with more the features then the i-phone. But the people would like tu use the phone with satisfaction and enjoyness. Maybe the right answer for TD2IN will be something from you honest opinion, what do YOU think, that will be best solution for him/her. The ROM, which is stable, fast, simple, user friendly. The people need some help ... Have a nice day.
Here is my answer

Hey I am also new here but managed to get my ROM here
I tried several available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Cooked_ROMs_for_Topaz but atlast I am using Photon ROM and I am happy.
You may not like the same, but you need to atleast try 3-4 and select one that suite your usage/style etc.
I liked Dutty's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579076
And Photon ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943396
As Dutty is not updating and Photon ha much stable and good so I am using that.
PIng me if you need more help.
Thanks for the reply friend.
I will start my process tonight and let you all know how it goes...
thank you

Did you get your ROM ?
I am still in the process to find my cup of tea...
I started with Dutty's ROM... but this has old version... so started picking others.
Now I have tested below softwares but yet to finilise one:
1) Energy ROM - The Energy Standard one
2) CR192 Mozart OS
3) Photon ROM OS - Stock edition one
I like the stock rom apprach of photon and energy, but energy has lots of application pre installed which I dont want. If I see CR192 that is also very good pick. So I am looking at battery life now and should be finilise in 2 -3 days.
thanks
energy roms and photon roms are great...
Energy ROM FTW
I tried a few ROMs with my Topaz and settled at Energy ROM (with start menu at top).
I used to install a load of stuff with each ROM and this was the most complete ROM with the most flexible Sense UI. The only 2 apps I needed to install on top of Energy is Skype and TomTom Navigator.
I like that it has the manual rotate programmed on holding the Answer button (I used to install a keyboard extender to do it before using Energy ROMs) so it can manually rotate apps not built for auto rotate like Tomtom. More importantly, I can turn off auto rotate on apps coz often I don't want auto rotate like when Im lying on couch/bed reading or using it for music. Fark I hate the UI rotating when I dont want it to! I find auto rotate an annoying gimmick made popular by Apple. Just gimme manual rotate, thx.
I prefer Resco Explorer to Total Commander but I havent bothered to install Resco and live fine with Total Commander that comes with the Energy ROM. I understand that Resco is not freeware so they can't include it.
I like that all the JAVA and DOTNET stuff is all done, has a good wireless hotspot app already, Opera with max tabs set for more than 2 already, TCPMP media player working well, RSS feed app, Twitter, Stocks tab .... I could go on and on. It pretty much has all the good freeware and tweaks and all the hard work already done for you.
I don't use my Topaz daily now, but I still use the same version of Energy ROM on my Blackstone (Touch HD) as my personal mobile phone. I used to also carry the Topaz with a data only SIM in it for internet access, but now I use a Dell Streak (android) to do that. Yeh Im crazy I carry TWO phones everywhere!
IF you wanna get up and going right out of the box, Energy ROM is the most complete and ready for the Topaz.
Instead I Liked Photon ROM and CR192 Mozart and currently running with Photon UX Edition.
I liked Energy, but that is toooooo bulky with so many applications which I dont require and to me looks ugly on my device and I can not remove those. In case of Photon ROM I dont have any extra stuffs so I can Install what I need not what some one gives me to use, whihc I dont require. I understand that there are many who may like what is given on the ROM that they use... but I like to have my stuff in my device.
Photon UX - plus Chinese support + handwriting ftw!
I've tried many ROMs in search of a better replacement for my TD2's sluggish official ROM (SEA version), and I've fallen in love with Photon UX edition and its professional looking background art.
Even better, I have managed to install Xyam's East Asian fonts support, Guobi for pinyin and character inputs, and Samsung's simple + traditional Chinese handwriting input V3.0 (my version comes from sanxingshouxieshurufa_8313 and fits the screen perfectly). Don't bother trying out the menu icon for the Samsung input though, the options don't work, only full screen handwriting is enabled. Otherwise, everything works perfectly as far as I can tell!
Thank you all for this thread which gave me a basic idea of what rom software I should download. I will download Photon ROM now... need to findout which edition I need there
Thank you all.
I have couple of questions in Photon ROM while downloading different edition of it... but this forum prevent me to post in the photon thread. Do I need to contact the owner of photon rom for this?
Thank you all.

By default new users in forum are not allowed to post in development related threads (but I have sen exception and users with 1-2 posts do post/reply there as well). You will be automatically allowd to post there after 1 day or so.
If you need any help in between you can ask here or PM me and I can help you.
Thank you.. but my id started working now and I can post questions there as well.
Have updated my Photon UX ROM version to 2.2 and everything still works well for me
