any help, whether you know the answer or can direct me to where I might find my answer is appreciated.
thanks.....
Hi all,
I just bought a used Nexus one recently. I have yet to activate it with T-Mobile.
I've been reading up on the Nexus one but still have questions that I can't seem to find the answer to even though I have searched through this forum and others.
If you guy/gals can help me out I'd appreciate it. I apologize if a certain question has been asked many times but I did try and search first......FLAME SUIT ON!!!....
Here's the stats on my phone:
Android 2.2
Kernal : 2.6.34.1 - cyanogenmod [email protected] toxygene #1
mod version: cyanogenmod 6.0.0-n1-rc2
Build #: FRF91
1 - Tethering - do I just need to go under settings and enable tethering hotspot? is there a default name I would look for when scanning on my macbook for the network?
2 - voice action - I got the phone about a week or two before they announced the voice action feature. would my phone have it or do I need to update the software, if so, how? where would the functions be to activate and deactivate voice action on the phone?
3 - android market - since the phone is modded, can I still download apps from the android market or do I have to get it from aftermarket spots like pandaapp and such?
4 - sync - I have a macbook. what would I sync the phone to? I saw an app on pandaapp called PC Suite. Is that what I would download to sync my info to? I have already downloaded Double Twist which should take care of syncing my music, videos and photos.
5 - micro SD card - what's on it? are my contacts stored there or the SIM? I talked to a T-Mobile rep and he said that all the new android phones have contacts on SD card and not SIM anymore. He said the older phones have it on the SIM and some reason the new ones can't be put on the SIM so that I would need to sync it or back it up some other way....true?? I'm asking also because I have the 4GB card now and would like to upgrade to a 16GB card while my phone is new to me with less data. What would I need to do to move the info over to a new SD card? I think I remember reading that the ROM and all that was on the SD card. I saw a post today on the Nexus General forum asking about the SD card too but it did not fully answer what I need to know.
6 - mod version and kernal : is it good for now or should I update it to the RC3 or to another whole mod version? if so, please link me to easiest instructions for a DIY. Though I have read some good things about my setup. I just want something stable and awesome....
7 - forum - besides this forum, what other ones do you like to check up on about our phone or android in general? or is this the one and only.....
I think that's all the questions I have for now. I would love to know the answers to these questions and be able to upgrade my SD card asap so that I can activate my phone with T-Mobile already.
Thanks.

1. Just turn on the hotspot. I forget it's name.
2. Update Voice Action through the market
3. Use the market.
4. Not sure any app will sync your personal info. That's all synced in the Google cloud.
5. Saved on internal storage not SIM or SD.
6. Update to RC3
7. His is the only forum worth reading. Everything else is late to the game or a repeat of here.

1. basically, just go to settings, wireless and networking, tethering and portable hotspot, and then, you can set your name for the wireless tethering (the name which you will look for in you laptop)
2.voice action is like voice search, you have to update the app manually, there are tutorials in android developement or themes and app. i forgot which one is it.
3. you can download apps from market like usual. nothing changes.
4. unfortunately, i never sync my pc with my n1. so i can't help you with that.
5. well. the contacts (at least mine) is synced with your google account, not with your memory card.
6. i see you already using CM 6 RC2. so if you want to update to RC3. you just have to download the rom, put it in your SD card, go to recovery(turn off your phone, then press and hold volume up when you turn it on. pick recovery with your volume up/down button, then use power button to "click" it), in recovery, do nandroid backup, and then flash zip from memory card.
7. i also visited android.modaco.com it's really a good site. if you want to know about news or updates on android, you can visit talkandroid.com, androidcentral.com, phandroid.com, there are a lot of sites like that.
i hope it answers all your questions. try to look at android developement sub forum. it worth the time to browse the forum.

1 - thanks
2 - i found the post. it's in the themes and apps. it says if you have adb, plug into usb and run. what is that and how do i know if i have it?
if i don't then i need to use the terminal emulator. from what i have read, is that what you download from the android market? is this all tough to do?
3 - thanks
4 - so how do you keep all your pics and stuff? i guess I'll have to search some more or post a thread just asking about syncing and see what everyone does for syncing.
5 - hmmm....i guess i'll have to search some more on this one too. that would be strange that contacts are not saved anywhere on the phone.
6 - thanks for the instructions. if I have any problems....you might just get a PM from me.... but i'll also search for guides too if anything.
is it worth updating it from RC2 to RC3? what are the pros and cons?
7 - thanks for the sites. i'll take a look at them too.
oh I have another question. what do I need to do to get flash 10.1? just through the android market?
thanks.

1 - thanks....found it and where to rename it.
2 - so i can update this thru the market and not HAVE to do it manually?
3 - thanks
4 - i will do some more searching about this just in case. thanks
5 - is there a way to see this file somehow to ...maybe back it up or something besides using google sync or something like that. if not, does this mean that if i were to maybe lose my phone i would be screwed and lose my contacts unless i were to do google sync or cloud?
6 - is it really worth it? what are the pros and cons? what's new on the RC3 over the RC2?
7 - thanks. i figured but I just like reading other forums too and to meet more people that share out enthusiam.....
I have another question. what do i need to do to get/update flash 10.1 since my phone is modded? same as stock phones?
I'm replying on a phone so I can't go and number them and stuff.
Contacts ARE stored on the phone and synced and backed up and stored on your gmail contacts. As long as you are using the gmail app, your contacts are synced. If you reset your phone, after u sign in to Google on the phone, all your contacts, mail, calendar are downloaded.
You can back up the contacts using apps u can download if you want.
New Voice Search, you can download/update it from the market. But since you're on RC2, you'll prolly get errors.
Best thing to do is download and update CyanogenMOD6 ROM, make sure to download the updated Google add-on pack too, it has the new voice search along with other Google apps.
If you're going to change SD cards, just copy everything from your old one to the bigger one.
Your pictures are stored on the SD card.

Hi Guys,
Today i installed CM9.1 on my galaxy note N7000. But unfortunately i am facing some problems in finding few built in apps like
1.Radio,
2.File browser, i am now using Astro file manager
3.USB option to turn on USB file transfer. i can use default MTP file transfer option but cant connect my note like usb storage.
Just want to ask, are these the limitations of CM9 or i am the one facing these problems.
Moreover, i am using 32gb sandisk class 10 card which is almost 25gb full. Under storage option it shows external usb but i cant see anything when i open Astro file manager under ext storage. Neither i can connect my USB Pen drive using connector. File manager does not show anything under USB storage.
neither i can find task manager to exit all running apps and refresh ram
I am sorry if these are repeated question but i tried searching for the answers but couldn't.
Regards
Mani.
Radio is not supported in cm9, use spiritfm, u can find it here on the forum or on the play store
Usb storage u change under setting>storage>options>usb computer connection
The ext sd is in root>emmc
As for the task manager, ics is as it self memory management friendly enough, just remove apps from the recents list, or turn on the option to kill apps with holding back button(in developer options/last option on the list)

thanks buddy. this was a great help.
Good morning guys!
After buying one for my personal use months ago (best purchase ever) my department here at work just bought 150 P880's.
We have a small issue with our technicians who are trying to sync documents directly to the SD card, so my question is:
Is there any way to force the SD card to appear as a normal Windows drive? Rather then another 'Portable Media Player' with folders?
I've considered a few ways to do the sync (FTP server etc) but seems way to complicated. The company frowns on the use of cloud services like dropbox with good reason so that's not an option at the moment.
(All are running JB 4.2.1)

Nope. At this time is not workaround to appear <Internal Memory> and <External Sdcard> as disks on Windows PC.
Only appear at subdisks of device <P880>.

You would need an option to mount the sd card as external storage, and not via MTP. But this is currently not supported from our kernels
Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32885144

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for an app that is able to sync my internal SD-Card to a USB-Card that is mounted via OTG-Adapter. Its just "simple" folder-sync I thought...but to find an app, that is doing this job without issues is almost impossible. I've tried many apps from Market, but non did a good Job. There are hundreds of Cloud-Syncing-Apps...but I just want to Sync to my mounted USB-Card OTG....has anyone tumbled across such a tool / app? Thx for any suggestions!!!:fingers-crossed:
Sync OTG attached SD card(s)
The only app I have been able to find for my Samsung Galaxy Note is Folder Sync by T2K269. It does not do a bi-directional sync, but a sync is so easy to set up that this is easily accomplished by reversing the folders.
I also successfully synced two OTG attached SD cards. :victory:
Hello All,
Just got the Nexus 6 coming from the Note 2, need to know the easiest way to get my text messages and photos from that device. I tried the NFC tap thing but if does not seem to work?
Photos.... copy them onto your computer and then paste them onto your Nexus 6.
Text.... use whatever SMS backup app you want, Titanium Backup has one. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore is another one.
Really you mean we still have to transfer files to our computer first to transfer, thats so old school to me. This was so much easier on the Note 4 with Smart Swap and somehow all my text got transferred automatically with the Note 4 too. I still like this Nexus though.
Use Helium it works great for not rooted users. Allows u to transfer data from apps such as angry birds, cut the rope, subway surfers, and any other app that doesn't backup to Facebook or Google+. However u need a PC with a very small program installed plus USB drivers to enable backup for non rooted users. Titanium is for rooted users only but works great also.
I Sync photos with g+ and backup text messages/app data with titanium backup. A USB OTG cable works well to transport the data from one device to another. If no access to USB OTG I use a PC.
Just make sure you unlock the boot loader before moving files to the new device as it wipes your device. Not a bad idea to flash a decrypted kernel as this will wipe your device also.

Its the fastest way of transferring files from 1 place to the next especially if you have a lot of photos. Alternatively, you can upload them to the cloud and download them.
