[KERNEL] Stock Unmodified "8/1 Leak" kernel - Droid Incredible Android Development

This update zip will simply replace the boot partition with the exact image from the 8/1 leak (2.6.32.15-g5e1ad8b). The boot image is the exact binary provided to us in the leak, I have changed absolutely nothing. So, if you want to try the Hydra or King kernels and decide you want to revert back to the default 8/1 leak kernel, this is a quick way to do it.
Before anyone asks, why not nandroid restore boot? These kernels place modules in /system/lib/modules which need to be reverted as well. Thus restoring just boot would be insufficient, one would have to restore /system as well.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Thanks rmk40. Just to clarify, the issue is only when doing a partial nandroid right? If you do a full nandroid there should not be a problem?

Just to make sure.. Skyraider has kernels on Rom Manager - isn't one of those a the newer/8-1 version of stock? If so that would also be an easy way to flash back

[Q] Stock Kernel

Hey guys I'm just wondering what the stock kernel version for 1.5 is. I am trying to get my phone back 100% stock and I'm not sure if my kernel is back, I restored my original system image from a nandroid backup and I know I loaded a custom kernel at some point. My Kernel is 2.6.27-533ce219d. If this isn't the correct version could you point me to where to I could download it. Thanks in advance.

download this attachment and flash it as a normal update.zip in recovery. It is the stock boot.img from the 1.56.651.2 RUU (aka the original 1.5 build)
or you could just use the 1.5 RUU...
Thanks, one other thing I noticed is I have flipz custom pri from long time ago still on there, anyway to get rid of that without cell connection?

oh, his pri.. hmm i think that will be fixed w/ the boot.img... not sure. let me know how the boot.img works
Well I went ahead and ran the RUU the kernel and the PRI are still the same. So I may have the original kernel, the PRI I may not need to concern myself with just yet, I have been working with the radio on it and wanted to get everything back to stock so I'm sure my customizations aren't messing it all up.

How to install Kernel elegantly>

Hi Guys!
I had my first experience installing a Kernel the other night. It was a HAVS kernel to go with my CM6 install.
Well, the Kernel didn't work out too well, and it was a learning process to get things back the way they were.
Right now I am back with Cyanogen 6 RC1 and its stock kernel, which appears to be 2.6.35.7-cyanogenmod [email protected]#1
My first question is, where can I download the above kernel raw, in case I want to revert back to it? (Last time I had to do a full wipe to be sure the old kernel was gone, with a stock boot.img, then a cm6 install, and a nandroid backup of my previous CM6 install, to get my original kernel back and make things non "stuttery" again)
Big thanks if you can link me to that!
My second question is...how do you guys install and overwrite kernels elegantly, without having to go through noobish drama like i did? you know..try new ones and such?
I'm not very sure if there is individual CM Kernel download, but I know at least Pershot's kernel should always work with CM:
http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/
Sometimes a kernel may contain a new Wifi driver, so my suggestion is to disable Wifi before flashing any new kernel. Also making a Nandroid backup may be necessary cause if something goes wrong, you can Nandroid restore back
Thanks houzuoguo! I like the link!
So is it safe to say that a nandroid backup restores the kernel too? (I heard that the kernel is what tells the hardware how to react to the software...so my thinking was that a nandroid backup would just be the software above say, a bios hardwritten..?)
Kernel is a part of operating system Nandroid backs up everything including kernel~
The kernel is a part of the boot.img and is backed up by nandroid, yes. You could just fastboot flash boot boot.img from your nandroid if you don't feel like restoring the entire backup.
You also need to replace your wlan kernel module with the one matching your kernel. Basically, every time you recompile the kernel after any changes you need to recompile the wlan module too since they are tightly linked.

Nandroid work for cm7?

I want to try some kernels for cm 7.1 to see if ocing could help speed up some games. If I don't like them I would like to get stock kernel back and I know I can't use sgs kernel flasher to back up current kernel because cm7 is different. I think I read that you could do a Nandroid and this would back up the current complete setup. Is this true? (sorry can't seem to search efficiently on this Tapatalk and don't have access to a computer). If so does it also backup apps, data and all? Is it done on the backup rom from rom manager or recovery? Thank you for your help.

nandroid backs up everything just as it is. definitely use cwm not rom manager.
you could also just put d/l the stable kernel as a cwm flashable zip.

Don't know for sure (I don't run cm7), but I would check the op of the cm7 thread.

nandroids do not backup kernel or modem.
have you ever made a backup of one set up and tried to restore onto a completly different rom? well if you have then you know there is a high chance that it will bootloop because of a now incompatible kernel. the procedure for a proper nandroid restore is to flash the rom it was backed up on (thus flashing the kernel that is compatible with it) and THEN restoring the nandroid. then it will be like you never flashed away from that rom at all. (this is speaking of tw roms as i have never run an aosp so i could be mistaken about it not backing up kernel on cm7)

Yea, I kinda thought that, but thought it worked for cm7.

[Q] trouble finding default/stock 5.9.502 ROM

I am happily running Eclipse ROM 2.2
I am trying to install some ICS ROMS like: sperimintgum gummykang 2.1
When i load it it says it may not work unless coming from certain kernel version. (5.9.902) I was told to flash from a stock rom.
This stock kernel i am trying to find with no luck! Does anybody have any links?
*no pay-to-download links please.

In order to run eclipse v2.2, you would of had to been on stock 902 at one time.
How did you flash eclipse, bootstrap? Safestrap?
Safestrap loaded
Bootstrap was initially loaded, i then loaded up safestrap.

Okay. So, Is eclipse on your unsafe or safe side of safestrap?
Did you make a backup of stock in bootstrap before you flashed eclipse?
It is the "safe" rom. i was unaware of what these options did. I did take a backup before i did eclipse.. would this be the unsafe rom?

It should be unless you erased it with bootstrap.
Disable safe mode and see what is in unsafe mode.
For future: Here is a good safestrap guide to follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455888
the safe rom seems to be stuck in a boot loop.
I had followed the safestrap instructions, & that aspect has worked fine.
I tried toggling the safeboot option and trying the other backup.. boot loop.
*Going back to a stock ROM for these type of scenarios is lacking in info. Should be a sticky on any ROMS that need it.
Do you have any more ideas of how to get back to a stock rom?
The problem was that you used bootstrap and safestrap together. This creates problems.
I can help you get back to stock if you have some time.
PM me when you get a chance.

[Q] How to get back to Stock Rom from ICS!

Hey Guys,
I have a rooted LG p990 from FIDO in Canada. I was wondering if i can get back to stock rom in order to get the ics OTA update.
I have NOVA HD REBUILD 1.1.0 (unofficial cyanogenmod 9) on it currently with the 2.6.32.59-HP-CM9-ICS-SUPERSONIC-RC2 Kernel.
I also have a nandroid backup of GB, but dont want to backup because i read online that the kernels are different and something to do
with the file system so you can brick your phone. Can i just restore the nandroid? or go back to stock? and how?
New to flashing, ROMS, Kernels etc. so i need help
You can restore the Nandroid without any problem. Everytime you change the ROM, Kernel will also be changed along with that. So after you restore the nandroid backup, your kernel will also be changed to Stock Kernel along with ROM. There wont be any problems.
Press THANKS if my answer is helpful.
If you are in Canada then I don't see how you will get ICS ota when LG Canada have said they won't release it there.
I doubt any release of ICS will be ota.
You'll possibly need to flash a downloaded rom to ICS anyway. Not sure if just changing regional settings will work but someone else can chime in on that one.

are you sure?

Are you sure, because i read online that ics changes the file system rendering the nandroid backup useless. And finally I don't need to flash a gingerbread kernel before right?, as nandroid restores my stock kernel.
Stock kernel is a gingerbread, one

Yes... The nandroid restore will restore the stock kernel as well. I have tried a few ICS Custom ROMs and restored my Nandroid backup and it restored the stock kernel.
One more question
Will the nandroid backup also restore the stock baseband and RIL?
Help - boot loop
I did the restore and it restored successfully, but when i reboot im in a boot loop and cant get past the white lg logo! HELP
FIXED
Changed to ext3 file system and it works now

Yes. Download a stock image from xda threads and flash it. You might have flash a new kernel if your coming from ics.
