Overclocked or not?? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hey, last night I tackled the process of rooting my Milestone and installing the Telus fast and light ROM (??). I thought I read that part of the package it overclocks the CPU...is there a way to tell? I don't notice the device being noticably faster? In fact, it kinda feels slower.
Is there anything I can do to check or to speed it up more? I know when I did OS updates on my old Blackberry Storm 2 the OS needed some time to settle in. Is that the case for these too??

You do need to let it settle in for a little bit, but to get it really fast, download SetCPU from here at XDA and see how fast you can overclock it. If it doesn't go past 800 MHz, install one of jdLfg's kernels and overclock it to 900 MHz as the minimum in SetCPU and 1200 MHz as the max.

Ok, I downloaded the file. How do I install it? do I just put the .zip file on SD card somewhere and install from the boot loader or something??

If you downloadedn from the market it should just install and be available in your app drawer. Be suren and got to the menu and have it detect your device.

Install it from CWMod Recovery.

Droid x overclocking and underclocking capiabilites?

Does anyone know what the phisical limitations are on the omap 3630 prossesor used in the Droid x and Droid 2? I would imagine that with the upgraded arm architecture we at the forum could acheive a workaround for the bootloader to find out exactly what this phone is capable of using some sort of custom kernal. I realize that most are going to say that 1ghz is plenty fast but I'm sure that's what they said about 550mhz on the original Droid. We must push the envelope for the simple reason of because where there is a will there is a way! If there are any on the forum with the skills u must not sit idle. I leave u with this challenge...

You can overclock if you're on 2.1 but not yet on 2.2
It appears that it is overclocked out of the box near limit, most anyones gotten is 1.2 I believe
I read that the 3630 is just a 3430 that is certified to run at 1ghz
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Interesting my understanding was that the 3630 was built on the next evolution of arm axhitechture and therefore it uses a smaller manufacturing process alowing for higher clocks with less power at a more stable stastanible level. I heard that they found a way to change the multiplier or something but that is not the true overcloxk using custom kernals and voltages it is just a tweek on the stock kernal. I want more!

Is their an overclock app?

SetCPU, OverclockWidget, They are just two popular ones out of the many there are

Oh look! This brainiac has decided that all forums should be disbanded and everyone should just search google for everything and hope for blog hits now.

Droid is slow and freezes.

So I rooted using easyroot. Installed rom manager. Flashed cyanogenmod on and setcpu. My phone has gradually gotten slower and slower. I've always wiped data and cache between flashes. I'm using chevyno1s low voltage 1.25 kernel. I was originally using bekit 1ghz. It runs nice after a new rom but contrary to what I read the longer a rom is on my phone the more broken it gets. Help me out. If you need more info let me know.

Bump. Sorry.
Delete this. I solved it. Taskiller sucks. Made my Droid perform like it was a Nokia.

[Q] Root and Overclock Question?

Hi there, quick newbie question for the Telus Milestone running stock 2.1.
Is it possible to root, just for the purpose of overclocking, and keep the stock rom?
I know rooting gives you superuser access, but do you have to change the rom for it?
Also, is there an easy step by step thats not 200+ pages buried in a thread? Ive looked, and am having issues.
I just want an overclocked Milestone
Nope. You'll want 3 things though.
1) universal root app (lets you root and unroot with no problems)
2) Milestone overclock (Should google this apk, not in the market)
3) setCpu (this u can pay for in the market or find it on XDA -donate tho to support-)
These are all reversable if you need. I did it to mine, but just couldn't find the right profiles for my use so I undid all but root privileges. I like the other appspot that opens for me.
Best of luck.

Thanks a lot! That worked perfectly
By the way...the milestone overclock is on the market though....overclocking to 1.2Ghz is not stable, but 1Ghz is

Yep I found it in the market thanks. And actually I've found my Milestone runs more stable at 1.2 then 1.0ghz, been running it about a week now.

I'm using the 80vsel. That's strange it crashed
Mine Runs fine @ 1.2 GHz vsel 80.
I've never tried the custom vsel rating though.
I can't run on 1.2Ghz 80vsel though...its not stable on my phone....how your battery life?I really can't feel my battery drain faster LOL

My battery life only needs to last for my commute of 90 minutes during the week. I plug it in once I get to work. Are you running another rom? I'm still running the stock one, maybe that has something to do with it. Ill find out this weekend when I throw on one of the Froyo roms.
On days when I need my Milestone to last all day I put the cpu back to 550mhz, and turn off my apns and gps. I still can call and text and that's fine when my phone isn't in my hands
No,I'm running the stock 2.1update1 : ) LOL I didn't overclock for the pass 2 dayd now...I'm going to test the battery life on 550 cpu..and then I'm going to tested with overclock..what rom are you using?

Zio Overclocking Question

Well iv had my Zio for a few months now and even with the 2.2 Update sometimes it seems to slow down and stutter.
I have been doing some research on Rooting my phone to get wifi tethering and the ability overclock my phone for better performance.
Now so far the Zio community on here seems to be very small so i dont expect an answer very fast so here is my question.
Has anyone with a Zio Managed to root there phone and overclock it? im not talking about some CRAZY overclock. im thinking in the 50-100MHz range. if so how has the performance increased? or has the performance Decreased? how is the battery life?
I have attempted such by manually editing some CPU files. I was able to successfully adjust the governor and changed from the stock 95% to 100% CPU threashold.
Sent from my Zio using XDA Premium App
So far I would say its a little faster. I definitely see a difference when opening apps and especially with the 2.3 launcher from the market.

Could you list where the CPU files are located m8?

If your phone is rooted you can use a number of overclock apps, but they use parameters based on te phone the zip is 122.88 to 600 mhz

CPU files are located within the /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ directory

@matrix
What were your exact editing lines? I forgot which thread it was where you answered this question before.
I basically changed the governor to performance and threashold too 100. Actually overclocking the ZIO is giving me trouble when I try to go higher than 600000
Sent from my Zio using XDA Premium App
Correction. Governor must be set to on demand to edit the threashold.

You wont be able to get true over clocking until theres been kernel source released. Has that happened yet? New to this device.
If so, and someone is willing to do something with adb, I can work on getting an overclock kernel for you guys, but I wont be able to test it myself so it could be a bit dangerous.
As long as it isn't clocked any faster than 6.5 or 7... 7 would be risky.
Sent from my Zio using XDA Premium App
You cannot over clock the Zio at the moment. The Kernel does not support it. You can use an app to set it to 600mhz all the time. It usually stays at 600mhz on its on.

which is why I said if we had kernel source, I would work on it for you guys. Keep an eye out for it.
Once we ave source, if one of you can pull your current config for me, which i'll explain once its available, it shouldn't be too hard to clock up a little.

Of course. Wouldn't let that go by unnoticed.
There is a overclock widget available that works great. When screen is locked it downclocks to what ever you set it too. Once unlocked it goes to 600 MHz.

but im gonna try and bump that 600 number up a little bit. Just need source code.
Tried to overclock witb droid. Fixed some permissions with clockwork it opened and ran just like setcpu. The app said the overclock module couldn't be opened because my device wasn't listed. Obviously.
Kyo M6000 Rooted with NoAds or Bloatware.
yeah the module is gonna be device specific.
I can't wait to see what this phone can do overclocked!
I had the Droid Incredible, iPhone 3G and neither could play the videos that I encoded for the ZIO without stuttering. The ZIO is playing the video files without stuttering with default player!
MP4/H.264/AVC/AAC LC
Video
800x480/4:3/29.97/1536
Audio
48100/2/160
I was just testing these settings on full movies just to see how bad the ZIO would stutter, to my surprise it played those as if it wanted more!
I will not keep those settings, as a full movie is over 1.5GB!
I might keep the video settings and use different audio settings, because the quality of the videos kick major butt!
I will be the beta tester for your Overclocking kernel option94!
I think it would do 750Mhz no problems, which would make this phone a beast! I wonder what the video sub system is in this unit?

Fresh from the eris to the og droid

I'm running cm7 rc1, I've tried some ultra low, low, and medium voltage kernels from both cor and chevy but haven't found a custom kernal that will run stable. I've also tried the supercharger script, underclocking with setcpu, and using autokiller, but I can not, no matter what I try, keep my phone out of a low memory state and battery life that will last me longer than 5 and if I'm really lucky 8 hours. I'm not using any widgets, I keep wifi, 3g, and gps off most of the time, and have 1/3 of the apps I had on my eris loaded on the phone, all on the sd card. I've tried to recal the batt. but I think the process must be diff for the driod and haven't found a decent guide. Could anyone point me to a decent guied, good tools for saving batt life, and possibly a cashe to cashe script or simular for the droid? I would really appreciate it, thanks so much in advance.

Well, if anyone else has the same issue, I fixed my issues by partitioning my SD card with a swap partition and utilizing swapper 2 to use it. I turned off compucashe, and used the setting in autokiller to speed up r/w speeds on the SD card. I also set autokiller to optimal. I found Chevy's lv .125-.900 works well, I uninstalled setcpu, and set my Max speed @ .600, my min. @ .125 and I'm using the ondemand, scheduler because smartass and interactive seemed to be laggy. the phone runs snappy but battery life still leaves much to be desired, still experimenting with it.

The swap is working, I'm not having mem issues, if I can figure out how to keep my phone from booting while charging and/or how to get it to boot with out the batt so I can recal I think my problems would be solved
