[Q] Updating Radio - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have read a lot about people updating their radios - but I do not see very many files to do this -
Why would someone need to do this - and what are the risks vs benefits ?

[Q] Rom Compatibility with radio versions...

Hi All,
Apologies if this has been posted somewhere already - although I have searched intensively before posting this thread.
I have a rogers G1, and rooted it, keeping the EBI1 radio, and naturally loaded cyanogenmod rom. Browsing the forum I noticed that almost none of the other roms tell you whether its compatible with the rogers EBI1 or not...which leads me to my question(s):
* Is there any rom besides cyanogenmod that will work on my Rogers? Is there an easy way to tell which roms will work or not?
Thanks all!
enzo
Just flash and see for yourself wether they will work or not, if your phone has the 26i radio other roms will work....But if you dont then you must stick with cyan but enom also supports EB11 rogers.
i've got the 3.22.20.17 radio...im particularly looking for an eclair or hero rom - any confirmed to work with this?

[Q] About baseband version

Hi everyone,
I have a question that may seems a bit noobish here about the baseband version indicated in the posts regarding custom ROM flashing.
My phone shows the following baseband version number: I8190XXALK1. Is there any compatibility issue with the roms currently listed in that forum ?
Basically, is there any risk for me to brick my phone when installing a ROM for a I8190XXALK6 baseband ?
(Oh and by the way: happy holidays everyone ^^)

[Q] Questions (Baseband and other technicals stuffs)

Hi guys, I have a generic knowledge about phone, rom and stuff but I want to understand it a step deeper.
Can someone give me info about :
1. what is the importance of upgrading Baseband ?
A. Do baseband are different for any region (America, Europe, etc.)
B. Is there problems that can happen when changing Baseband ?
C. Can i use Android 4.0.4 with old baseband like V10A ?
2. Differences between baseband and IMEI ?
3. Differences between V30B, V30C etc. (What it mean and what it do.)
4. What is Governor ?
I really like to test and try new roms, changing kernels and stuff but.. I need to understand this better.
Thanks guys !

you are attempting to flash wrong ROM, look for SC-02B ROM in My Android Collections under ROM
Hey, I know this doesn't answer your question about getting info on your radio and bootloader, but if you're trying to install CM onto a Docomo I9000 you might want to read this...

[Q] GT-i9000 Confusion with getting started

Hello all.
Firstly, i strongly appologise if this post is in the wrong place etc, and i really have tried very hard to search through everything without having to post but i'm so lost i need a point in the right direction. There's just way too much info on the forum, and links, and threads, a lot of it assumes you have a very detailed understanding of custom android roms etc etc and i'm going round in circles.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000, purchased in the United Kingdom and on o2 network.
It is not currently rooted, however i am preparing to do this also.
My current Firmware version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I9000BUJV4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-I9000BUJVG-CL719381 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BUJVG
I want to root and then flash a new rom to my phone as currently it is SO slow i can barely use it so my main aim after rooting the device is either to remove a load of unnescesary apps and streamline the stock gingerbread rom OR update to a stable rom that does not come cluttered with lots of apps. I can soon add the apps i want or need.
With there being SO much information on i9000 and the info being a bit dated (handset is very old model now by todays standard) i'm just overwhelmed with too much or conflicting information. I really would benefit from someones knowledge and advice.
Firstly i do have Odin and the PIT files.
Secondly i can't seem to find matching relevant files to be able to root my handset as nothing seems to match what i see on the 'ABOUT PHONE' screen and as listed above, nor can i see a stock rom that matches my info.
Thirdly, i'm considering something like using: [ROM][GB][JW8] MesoROM v2.0 but don't understand the instructions (they assume you have flashed roms to and from the handset before). I cannot establish from my phones info whether i am all set to begin with some of these roms as some are labelled JW8 and referred to if you are on Gingerbread JW8 or not etc and i don't think i am as these letters are not meaning much to me at present. The references to using certain kernels (eg semaphore) have confused me also. I need things dumbing down
I am confused as to the order i need to begin. I have attempted nothing yet, due to not being able to get my head around everything 100%. I don't understand the seperate parts of Odin, and which i must flash and which i can leave as standard, i have flashed Samsung galaxy Aces handsets using CWM before but i just desperately need a list of the order to do things and confirmation what files are a compatible match with my info not seeming to match any references on the forum.
If someone could inbox me or just simply point me in the right direction i would be so grateful. Any order to work from no matter how brief would be very helpful.
I understand this post must look like i'm not making any effort to read or search but honestly i have and appologise for coming across as a complete idiot, i have tried vigourously to learn about flashing these handsets i'm struggling to work out the correct files to get going with, and their relevence to the operation of the phone.
Thanks for your patience.
Drew
Additional info
In Samsung Kies the current firmware lists as:
PDA: JVG / PHONE: JV4 / CSC: JV5 (VOD)
This helps make sense of some of the individual rom instructions but i am still a little confused... which is kernel and which is system os / firmware so to speak?
I believe i want the Semaphore 2.74 kernel but completely don't understand the abreviations used within the instructions.
Will that kernel work happily with MesoROM v2 rom, and what order to flash via Odin etc? Just can't get my head round all the jargon. and all the JV4/5/6/7/8/9 references.
Try this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434225
If you don't manage, ask again here or PM me.

Yes, it will work.
BTW, Semaphore 2.7.4 is a stock kernel in MesoROM v2.0
Thankyou, all working with MesoROM and Semaphore. Really pleased
