Heck I will join in
Now youve gotta bair in mind, I originally bought this pc ( about 5 years ago) before I really understood much about upgrading etc, so thats why its a bit commercial, and I agree its no where near modded to your standard, but what the hell I just keep upgrading bits at a time that I can afford (Im only a teenager )
I recently upgraded my old geforce 8800 GT (on ebay ) to a HIS ATI 5850
1 1.5tb hard drive, and 1 750 gb one.
4gbs of DDR 2 RAM (one of the next upgrades)
some stock dell quad core processor (waiting till new models at christmas for an upgrade)
hooked up to a 22" LG monitor
Im proud of it but it still has far to go
5 yrs old still goin strong with no upgrade
I have my gaming PC (Win7 & Ubuntu 10.04):
Intel E5200 @ 3.8GHz with Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro
Gigabyte EP43-DS3L
4Gb OCZ DDR2 @ 1066
EVGA GTX260 @ a bit faster than it should be..
Custom case - side window, blowhole fan, CCFLs etc.
My HTPC (Win7):
AMD Opteron 146 @ 2.8Ghz
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
2Gb Corsair Value Select
7900GTX
Plus a FreeNAS box with a 520MHz Pentium III, my laptop and a 80486 thing that I haven't turned on for years...
Built it about 2-3 years ago and upgraiding from time to time.
Asus p5k-premium Black Pearl edition
C2D 2.66
Geforce 8400gs (need to upgrade this)
8gb ram
Internal and External HD's:
1TB Hitachi
1TB WD
300GB Maxtor
You guys suck. Bunch of show off's.
(Yes Im a little jealous )
good stuff, I cant wait to have the money to build something nice
Holy F***ing Crap!!!!
those are some monsters!!!!! i wish i had something that awesome, instead i just got my laptop (which isnt all that bad, but its not gaming rig, which i would like to have). i did have a friend who built his own gaming pc. he called it his B.F.G. (big f***ing gun for those of you non english people). if i remember correctly, it had a terrabyte of storage, but thats all i can remember.
Dang, you guys are crazy good with your pcs, I once tried upgrading the memory on my pc and i short wired it.

argh you guys made me jeleous......
I got my whole wish list lined up on new egg, and after a whole week of work ready to check out, I realized new egg doesnt ship internationally...... :O
so now I have to wait till christmas or something so i can go to hong kong and grab some stuff off there for a goodie price.
never built a comp before... must be missing the fun...
used to have a monster of a custom PC. Bought it when the 4870x2 got released in combination with a E8600 OC'ed to 4,4 ghz. But that **** groes old so fast
I've built a few computers. The rig I'm running now has
i7 920 @ 4.2ghz
2 4870x2s
Foxconn Bloodrage (non gti) PCI-E Hardmodded.
6gb Dominator GT 1600
LG Blu-ray burner
2x RaptorX 10k raid0
1tb backup
Xfi Fatality Championship soundcard
1000w RealPower Pro psu
CM Stacker 830 evo
28" Hanns-G 1080p monitor
Watercooled.
I've had it benched to over 4.85ghz.
In the pictures, the first one was a QX9650 and rampage formula, that was the first build with the case. Now the coolant has stained the tubing, so don't mind the milky color.. lol The second picture wasn't complete. I still had some cable management to finish.
Sent from an HD2 running Froyo
as soon i get into college, im gonna dump my current gaming pc(2.1c2d, gt130m) and build a gaming pc just around 5890. It has to be epic. Just need some cheep cooling ideas...

Good day gentlemen (and lady nerds),
Though I consider myself knowledgeable in desktops, I find it better to include a third party to aid me in making a decision in purchasing a desktop. To make it easy...these are the things I'm looking for (to narrow the possibilities)
Will be going to Best Buy---I know...but I really have never had any issues with them...besides, the person helping can look at their website for specs.
Desktop options:
Pretty much open to anything (see??? It wasn't hard!!) Looking for:
dual layered dvd/rw lightscribe drive
at least 500gb
4gb ddr2 sdram mem
Price range --- up to $500 US (or 6 million pesos +QuePPC)
capable of handling photo and video editing without me having to wait 10 minutes to apply changes...
I just need to replace my current desktop, as it feels like its beginning to run on fumes (already 5 1/2 years old)---poor fella...
**off topic--went to Mexico as a child and found a coin...person told me that it was like 5,000 pesos and I was like, "Man!!! I'm rich!!!!" Went to a store...and came out with a stale, spicy piece of candy...rip off!!!
I dont know if its will be in your price range but!!!
Intel core i7 920 (the cheapestof i7 but can be OCd to 4ghz)
Nvidia Geforce 9600 and up (like 9800 or gts250) or a good ati card like 4870 (about the same power a Nvidia geforce 260 - but much cheaper)
about the other stuff -well if this all will be in you price range - then find something that is compatible with this!!
Good Luck!

500US is not 6 million pesos
500US = 6,651MX
We do not have a 5,000 pesos coin!
The biggest coin is like 20 pesos

You're wasting your time going to bestbuy.
I build systems regularly and you can get a brand new i5 system with a dedicated video card for about 600. It's more than you were looking to spend, but FAR superior to what you'd get at bestbuy for the money. If you're interested, I can piece something together at an online retailer and email it to you. I just hate seeing people pay more for less in a store.
Okay...how about this then?
Looked up a site...and just plugged in some specs...
can I do better than this at a 585 price????
Take something like Pentium DualCore E5200, cheapest 4GB RAMs 800/1066MHz (they actually might be cheaper lol), WD6400AAKS harddrive (640GB, fast, awesome), 400W Seasonic PSU, GTS250 GPU, Gigabyte G31 motherboard (or P35 ASUS or anything like that) plus other things you need (dvdrw, casing). I hope it can fit in 500$ (it's not that much tbh).
PS: You can easy overclock the E5200, all of them goes at least to 3.3GHz
This setup runs at $513 US...is this decent?
That's better, but the GPU I don't like (crappy drivers), plus harddrive would be better WD6400AAKS since it is faster. Why the hell did you choose crappy nvidia 7100 motherboard? Take cheapest G31 or P35 MoBo.
If this is maximum you can pay, take it. Still, the price seems pretty high for me.

My experience with laptops has been moderately good.

Dell Latitude XPI: P1 150mhz, 64mb ram, floppy win 98
Digital (yes the make is digital)
Then my luck came:
Dell Latitude XPI CD!!! wooo! CD!! p1 150mhz, 64mb ram, floppy. win me
^^ I broke that one
Then there was a long gap (about 4 years):
Compaq Evo N610c4 1.6Ghz, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd, dvd, win 7 home premium:
pretty good running win 7 for a 8 year old laptop!
Then:
Advent 7088 (based on ECS 331): Amd Athlon 1.6ghz, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd, dvd writer, wifi, win 7 ultimate
Thats it really, the advent is my current laptop.
Thanks for reading.

My sister and dad have a toshiba each and i don't really mind them. My sisters is a satellite dualcore, and iam surprised at how cool it is!
But i think i am going to stick with compaq as they are quite cheap
sony vaio UX series
a piece of hardware directly from heaven
Looks like the Schwarzenegger of PSP's lol
My first laptop was a Dell lattitude lm that was a leftover from Boeing when they upgraded OS's... It was a pentium MMX @166Mhz, 640Kb RAM, 3Gb HDD and Win95. Interestingly enough it still boots, works and runs my CAD program from college haha! I ran windows update and received the "your system has reached end of life and will have no more updates" message and have a picture somewhere...
My current laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525, Core2 duo @1.66Ghz, 3Gb RAM, 160Gb HDD, running Vista. Runs perfectly and has for years now, got it from the Dell outlet for about $480 several years ago.
After having a Compaq desktop years ago (that ended it's life horribly) I have stuck with Dell products from the outlet. I don't care about scratches and dents, as long as they work!
I'm still using my first laptop which is an Sony vaio its like a desktop. My newer laptop broke which is also an vaio.

Im looking to buy a new gaming computer because my mac is really not built for it. It runs some games pretty well under windows but not as good as i would like. i have a quote for 1000$ for it atm (2.54Ghz MBP 2009 model) and i have 600$ of extra cash im willing to put into a new computer.
my basic question: What is the best gaming computer i can get in the price range of 1400-1600$?

In all seriousness, you are better off building your own because it will be cheaper. If you go that route, the only things that will be expensive are the CPU, GPU and motherboard.
Now if you don't know what processor to go with, I suggest you check out Intel's 2600K. It is Intel's new Sandy Bridge processor and it is FRICKING awesome for its price. Easily overclockable up to 4Ghz on air.

1600$ Max? I can't believe I'm going to say this, but Alienware's m11x and m15x are solid laptops with a good price. You can also check out HP also or Dells XPS series which are pretty noteworthy.
Take a look at asus laptops. They have the best price for what you get.

wow....no
i definetly am looking at Asus and Alienware atm.
do you guys have any specific models that i should take a look at? maybe a config that has worked well?
Just go for Alienware if you 100 % wants gaming laptop
If you only wants a gaming laptop then go after processor and Graphics card because RAM And hard drive you can upgrade that later , You need solid Nvidia GTX Series for good gaming
I know Lenovo's aren't technicaly gaming PC's but they have some great specs for the price there
I'm in the Alienware camp as well. My brother has one and he can multi-box WoW (5 account bot team lol) with no lag whatsoever.
But it runs any game he wants to on it with no lag and its pretty slick looking.
ive heard alienwares are a bit overpriced for what they are worth, however i like the power they put into those computers. I will definetly check that out. also, should i go for a custom built comp or just one pre-configed?
Well you cant cave in so you'll have to get atm a good solid computer thatll last you the next 10 years

joke aside best bang for the buck (or should i say fps for the buck) is the sager brand , go ahead , compare the specs and price with alienware , or anything ya want
they look more solid too (which is a huge plus compared to the childish green alien faces imo)

yeah they also have the new 2k i7 (sandybridge)
First, I won't buy it soon. Just looking for one to have ideia about what notebook to choose. So, being launched until end of 2013 isn't problem for me.
So, I want:
-Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 (Ivy Bridge, if possible).
RAM: 6 to 8 Gb
HD: + or - 500 Gb, or a SSD with a big capacity.
Screen: 14 to 16 inches, maybe FullHD.
Keyboard: Not needed, but numeric keyboard is a good. A must is retro-iluminated keyboard. Maybe controls for music (Play/Pause, Backward (forgot the word!!!), Next and volume control.
Graphics Card: No need for the best, only something that can play games quite nice, as playing won't be the main use.
Weight: The less, the better.
Size: The thinest as possible.
Connectivity: 1 HDMI, 1 VGA, 3 or 4 USBs (preference for 3.0, at least 2.0), CD/DVD Reader/Recorder. Blu-Ray not needed, but optional. 1 SD/MicroSD (there is a notebook that hava Micro SD?). Don't use many others. Bluetooth not needed, but if possible, I want.
Color/Finish: Piano Black or something Grey. Suggestions accepted.
Another things I may have forgotten, please ask.
Use will be browsing, wathing movies/series, light to medium editior programs usage, gaming, songs (a lot) and, of course, Android user things.
Thanks for the help.
It will serve you well.

I have an HP, and although they aren't that reliable, their performance is outstanding, especially the dv7 series. Go for one of these, Toshibas are also extremely durable and reliable.

Since you asked so nicely
It's an "e-machine" custom built thing with a dual core 2.4GHz CPU (of some make or other - I think it's an AMD) and 4GB of RAM. I pretty much use it for browsing, DLNA streaming, software development and writing music. It doesn't need massive specs as I don't game on it that much. I've got a couple of Star Wars games, but they happily run at decent res as they're years old.
It suits my needs, but is by no means a powerhouse. I'm a console gamer, but if I wasn't then my PC would be pimped to the max as I'd game on that instead. I needs my games!
Same here, got a 360 but dont bother with that all the time either. Nice media extender though...
Thanks! Now, was that so hard? It's still better than my laptop. I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 with 2GB RAM. Not sure on the rest of the specs, but it's not fast at all. But it's OK for doing daily tasks like reading news and streaming/downloading things. If i want to game i'll power up the good ol' PS3.
