I need help with mounting my phone. I'm currently running CM6 and last night I USB tethered the thing for the first time. It worked and everything, but now when I connect my phone via USB and try to mount it the computer doesn't recognize it, well it does recognize it as a network adapter (HTC Remote NDIS Device #2). Please help, I'm trying to remove the battery tweak but it would also be nice to be able to mount my phone again. Thanks all.
Make sure you have "debugging on" and "charge only" when connecting your phone. If those two things are not your problem, try uninstalling HTC sync and drivers, reboot your computer and reinstall HTC sync.
I'm having a hard time finding "debugging on" and "charge only" options in CM6. Where should I look. I also have not been able to mount my SD Card on My Computer since the install.
Thanks.
Reboot your phone. Known bug with cm. You can't usb tether and connect drive/adb at the same time period, but cm6 gets stuck till you reboot. Easiest solution, google wired tether for root users. Lets you usb tether but starts the other drivers up fine when you're done so no reboots needed.
Oh, and charging only is not an option on cm6, that's the default anyway, you always have to manually mount sd. Debugging is in settings/applications/development

I needed to transfer some files from my N1 to my Pc, so I connected it to my PC using the cable. I was expecting the black mounting screen prompting me to mount the SD card, but nothing happened. I restarted my device twice, but the case is still the same. What could have been wrong? I have not installed any app within this time, not removed any. I have used it in just ordinary daily manner, messaging and calling and nothing else. My N1 runs on Froyo, OTA. No jailbreak.
Please help. Thank you
u need to assign a drive letter to your SD card
Noob answer: is it on the status pulldown bar?
Do you have USB Debugging enabled?
Does the phone recognise that it's been plugged in (ie start charging)?
Similar problem
I am having a similar problem with my N1 running CM6 stable. When I turn off USB debugging and plug the phone into my Win7 laptop, I get the USB connected screen, but when I turn on USB storage the SD drive doesn't mount i.e. I cannot see/access the drive in Windows 7. The N1 status bar says USB storage is on.
Under Device Manager, the N1 shows up as Android Phone-->Android ADB Interface with driver version 2.0.10.2 dated 11/08/2009.
Any help would be much appreciated.

No, THIS is exactly the problem, the phone dies not recognise that it has been connected to a computer. It does start charging, but no sign of SD memory mount/unmount. Nothing. Just simply charging.

No, USB debugging is not enabled. I double checked it.
I guess that Windows also doesn't recognize the phone as anything (Device Manager doesn't show anything new plugged in)?
In that case, enable USB Debugging, and see if the phone is recognized by Windows.
If it is - the problem is somewhere in SW.
If it isn't - then it might be a faulty USB cable or connector (from any side - phone or PC).
same thing happens to me from time to time. restart your computer and that should fix your problem.

I installed the driver needed to tether USB using cm6 and windows XP. It works fine, but I lost the ability to safely remove hardware in the taskbar in lower right on my PC. I tried to turn on the USB storage on my phone, it worked on the hero's end but it did not show up on my PC, normally it is E: drive. So I tried to disable Android USB Ethernet in the device manager, thinking it would pick back up as a storage device, no luck. I even scanned for hardware changes ADB is not seeing my phone either! This is getting worse and worse as I type!
OK I used USBDeview to uninstall the tether from usb ports, and device manager to uninstall the driver for the usb tether. I then restarted my PC plugged up the ol hero and everything is back to normal However my question is; Can I reinstall the USB tether driver for WinXP and be able to continue to use ADB, and mount SD, not all at once but as it was I could not do that. Once I installed USB tether I lost all ability to ADB and mount my SD for drive E: on the PC. I even tried disabling the USB network adapter using device manager. I guess its wireless tether from here on out?
Thanks for the help
Anytime you use usb tether, you can't use storage or adb. And it's a known bug in cm6 that stopping tether does not restore usb/adb use unless you reboot your phone. My fix is to use wired tether for root users. Of course you still can't use adb and tether at the same time, but when you stop it, adb returns.

So I reboot phone and I can use storage and adb again, without uninstalling the USB driver for tethering. Good to know, Thanks!

Reinstalled usb tether driver and tested, good. Rebooted phone and was able to adb and mass storage!
Thanks
Try that wired tether app, just google it. You don't have to restart the phone when you're done using it to usb tether

Awesome! Just installed and like the fact I dont have to reboot, I dont have to tether often but when I do I like it to be easy.
Thanks
Well, when I plug my phone into either my ps3 or computer the phone will recognize that it is in USB, but in the pulldown menu it gives me no option to mount it. What would cause this? I tried restarting my phone, but that didn't help.

As long as your pc doesnt display a message telling you the device has malfunctioned and windows doesnt recognize it its more than likely configuration issue with your phone.
the usb connection interface is wonky and Ive replaced one phone already because it failed completeley.
Good luck hope this helps.
I don't think that would have fixed it anyway. It recognized that it was connected in mass storage, but it just didn't give me the option to mount it for some reason. Anyway, I got it to recognize it after I kept switching mass storage on and off

You never mentioned you had USB debugging enabled? Did you?
I am using a Custom ROM and from time to time my computer doesn't recognize that I have connected my phone via USB. I usually can be sure on my Computer Explorer isn't opened then disconnect and re connect USB cable. Also if my phone has been connected and I haven't Mounted and phone "goes to sleep". I have to disconnect USB,Wake the phone and then connect USB and immediately Mount.

It wasn't my computers problem though, thats the thing... It was something with the phone. I still don't know exactly what is causing it, but this is not the first time it has happened.
Hey guys, been trying to figure out how to connect my phone to my pc without having to have kies installed on every computer I access using the usb cable. After struggling for a while I figured out the problem was because I had usb debugging mode activated, and once I unchecked it abracadabra! I was able to access my memory card just like any regular flash disk. The only problem am experiencing now is that, even though I have usb debugging unchecked, every time I connect the usb cable it automatically becomes checked again. meaning I have to go through the long process of going to settings> applications> development, to uncheck it again. Why is this happening?

Install these samsung drivers and you will be able to do so.

Dont quite get the problem.
When I plug in the USB cable to the phone and PC, the phone's task bar shows a small icon at the top. I pull down the task bar (or what ever it is called - it is pull down), touch the info about USB, and up comes a dialog box about enabling USB storage. I touch OK, and there is a warning about not being able to use apps on the USB. I touch OK again, and I am now connected to the PC.
First time or so, I was asked to turn off USB debugging, and never had to do it again.
Then maybe its an issue with my phone, originating from the factory, coz everytime I connect I am forced to go find the usb debugging option from way deep in settings coz nothing appears in the drop down task bar until I uncheck it. I am now getting paranoid considering the first time I bought it and took it home I found out that the standard micro sd card I was issued with did not work and had to go back to the store and get a replacement card. Maybe I should have opted for a different phone too. "cockroach theory"

Thanks for the drivers, but that was not the solution I was looking for exactly as that would mean I would have to install them on every computer I ever connect to, seeing as I prefer to double up my phone as a flash disk too coz its harder to loose and no pal would ever ask to use your phone to go borrow something (thats how flashdisks get lost) and I can also charge the phone when am copying new movies and songs, catch my drift.

When you use your phone as a flash drive, you can expect to use it as a normal flash drive - simply plug it in, and the PC recognises a USB mass storage device. There ought to be no need for any drivers. Even on windows PCs.
But, you will have to unmount the SD card from within the phone.
If you need to disable USB debugging mode each time, try disabling USB debugging without the USB cables plugged in The phone ought to remember it. The menu option is, IIRC, settings > USB and media.
Things are slightly different in 2.2.2 froyo, 2.4.5, 2.4.6 and the current 7.1 CM custom kernel I am using. So, I cannot exactly remember the menu option. But, it is not a driver issue.
BTW, I installed the samsung USB drivers for Kies and ODIN from the phone on a newly installed OS, and was on stock 2.2.2 Froyo then so I am very sure that this is not a USB drivers issue.
My phone just updated to 2.3.6 and every time I plug the USB cable in, debugging mode automatically activates, even though I have unchecked it without USB cable plugged or after it was plugged. When I try to enter mass storage mode I get prompted that some apps might not work while in this mode. I tap OK and the phone tries to connect but after a while reverts back to debugging. That would not be a problem if I was at my home computer as running keys unlock the mass storage mode adn I can use Total commander to load what I want, but when at work, I do not have admin right so I can not install driver. Until yesterday I was on Froyo 2.2.1 and mass storage was no issue...

I knew this is an old post, but i had to reply this.
I had the same situation. i also lost the USB Storage function after upgraded to 2.3.6 DXKT5.
so , now i unable to use TV or SetTopBox to play the files inside the S5830. too sad.
I wish i could revert back to FROYO v2.2.1 , yet , i unable to find a valid/working download link for Froyo 2.2.1 DXKC1 , so i had to stick with it now or later.

I am having issues with the activation of USB Mass Storage mode on CM7 v7.10. When I first connected my nook (just got it yesterday), I was able to enable mass storage mode as per normal. However, after this it's just stopped working!
There's nothing wrong with the cable afaics because the empty drives come up on the PC (Win7) no problem, it's just that the nook doesn't detect that the USB is plugged in and so never gives me the option to enable Mass Storage mode. I have had success once running ROM Manager's 'Fix Permissions' function, but since then it's not made any differences. The issue remains on multiple PCs with multiple cables.
Anyone got any fixes for this issue?
+ can you wiggle the micro-usb end a bit to see if anything better?
+ do you have the "usb debugging" check?
+ do you see the usb icon displayed on the NC notification bar?
- No wiggling makes any difference
- Tried with USB debugging on and off - no difference
- No USB icon (but empty drives still show up on my PC) so there is some kind of connection going on.
If the empty drives do show up on the PC, it definitely some sorts of connection made, it's a good sign.
Now back on your NC, go into Storage, try to Unmount then Remount the uSD and see if it gets any going.
Note: leave the Debugging USB Mode on.
Might also be worth considering moving from 7.1 to the MiRaGe 7.2 build. I'm not saying there is a specific fix but using the later ROM may help and I think most people find it more stable, faster and problem free.
Yeah, I actually updated to KANG 7.2 this avo and the USB Mass Storage option is back!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
I currently having KANG Mirage 7.2 with Tablet Tweak but it did not work. I bought an OTG cable from ebay so I assumed it's bc the OTG cable. The Drive works fine on my laptop but nothing appears on the Nook.
Maybe a re-flash with the same ROM might do the trick?
I'll try to reflash sometime soon!
Will post

I had the same issue. Have the USB connected and while connected reboot your device once it has rebooted you'll be able to access the USB files on your device. You'll be able to see the USB signal at the bottom, which you can activate. You'll have to do this most likely everytime you want to access USB storage

I'm on MIRAGE 7.2 running off EMMC. SD card is in the Nook.
I shut nook off, plugged in the cable to my pc and started the nook.
5 drives show up but I cannot access any of them. The USB icon is in the tray on the Nook and it says "USB connected". Just above that it says, "USB debugging connected"
Anybody have any success?
After doing some reading I've decided to use ES-FILE Explorer wirelessly. Its very easy to use. You need to SHARE folders on your PC in order for it to access the files.
Playing around with the USB option some more, I didn't realize that you could TOUCH the message in the notification bar. When you do, it launches a program and from there, you turn the USB connection on or off.
Geeeeeeez........ya learn something new every day.
