Hello.
To make this easier to explain, i will give an example of my problem:
I go to bed at night at 22:00 and switch off phone, someone sends me an sms at 01:00 and when i turn my phone on at 08:00, the sms program shows the sms recieved as at 08:00.
On the HTC Desire, it would show 01:00 wich was the correct time of the sms message to be sent.
Anyone know how to fix this issue on the Galaxy i9000?
(I have the same carrier now as i had with the Desire, and the same sim card.)
Wich program do you use? Stock messageapp?
edit:
Ok, let me expand a little so you can test some things yourself:
A message-app should read the attached timestamp it received from the message-server. (my provider had it set to the wrong time once for a few days, so i could text from the future, funny)
It is possible your program shows you the time when received, it should not do that.
So... install a different program. Like chompsms (free), or use stock if you are using a third party app and see what happens. I cant reproduce atm. Have only got 1 phone nearby.
I assumed this was normal... as the same thing occured with every phone I've ever had... but this is my first smartphone...
If a third party app does it as you say, I would like this feature too! We need someone to test...
OK, tested, twice.
A quick google gave some answers too. I assume TS also googled the issue? Did you find anything of interest?
Behavior #1
Android (in general including 2.2, not just galaxy S) seems to remember the +0 timezone timestamp, wich it then corrects using your timezone. You can try this by setting your timezone differently, it'll change the timestamps on the messages. This is acceptable behavior since it will show you the correct local times when moving about timezones since it syncs time to the phones network. (tes if possible, i dont have a plane handy)
Behavior #2
It'll start off using the phone's time. Wich ofcourse will be at the moment of receiving on the phone, not on the providers server.
Looking at the details of the message it also says this time of arrival.
This is odd behavior, since there is a timestamp in a sent message.
I'll have a closer look.
OK, could be a carrier problem.
I need some data, plz test and reply with some details.
Testing is easy: turn on flight mode, let someone send you a text, wait a few minutes, turn off flight mode, look at the timestamp.
Country: Holland
Carrier: Debitel
Phone: galaxy S
Version: Eclair 2.1

grrr....
I need to learn how to search...

Hi there
I've been having issues with SMS on WM6 - the OS issue is the only common thread between the two devices I have had trouble on.
It all started after I upgraded my JASJAM to WM6 using some of the cooked roms on this forum. Short Messaging would work for a while, and suddenly go on the blink with all messages you try to send remaining in the Outbox. You also dont RECEIVE SMSs. WHen I checked with the operator, they confirmed that messages are being recorded as 'delivered' on their system.
Funnily, I would start receiving SMSs every time I changed a ROM (and I tried out different WM6 ROMs for Tytn) before it went on the blink again. The problem also occurred across multiple networks when I roamed, so it wasnt network-specific.
The issue was not brought up at the Forum as I was planning to upgrade to Tytn II as soon as it came out. And so I did (upgrade, I mean) last week when the device was released in Dubai.
Surprise, surprise - I still have the SMS issue. I was able to send & receive SMSs for a while, and it went on the blink again after I received 2 or 3 replies.
I'm now convinced that this has something to do with the receipt of Short Messages, but would like to check if any of you have had the same issue.
For the record, I have tried the following to try and solve the issue:
1. Soft reset.
2. Deleting the Inbox folders on my storage card.
3. Turning Push Mail off (I assumed it has something to do with the two messaging streams being on all the time).
4. Clearing all SMS folders of their contents.
5. Turning "Delivery Notification" and "Use Unicode Messaging" options ON and OFF, together and separately.
6. Turning my SMS signature on and off.
In short - I've done everything short of a hard reset. I know the damn thing will work for a while if I hard-reset, but I cannot bring myself to redo all the customizations I have carried out on the new device, particularly the GPS software installation.
HELP!
Just a thought - did you try replacing the SIM card you are using?

Its not network or SIM card specific - I have had the same problem with about 6 different SIMs (I travel a lot).
BUZZ!!!
Any ideas, guys?
Are we really talking about a jasjam?
That's not a TyTN II / Kaiser, is it?

We're talking about the Tytn II / Kaiser / P4550.
I mentioned JASJAM because I had the same issue when I upgraded to WM6 on my Jasjam.
i'm not being able to send sms with the default program... looking for an alternative to try
edit: installed sms threader for wm6.... that seemed to help, i was able to receive text from skype and from myself... of course the text i was originally trying to send still won't go...
I was finally able to send the sms to the contact I could not connect to before. instead of texting from inside of "messaging" and adding a contact as a recipient, I selected the "send text message" option in the contacts area. oh, the reason I think the sms threader helped pertains to the test sms I sent through skype being received directly afterward. there was a twenty minute gap between send and receive.... it could all just be coincidence.... and works when it feels like....
Figured out the issue - since the problem occurred on my Hermes after I upgraded to WM6 and continued on my TytnII I assumed it had to do with some of my add-on software not being WM6 compatible.
True enough it was a vcard application I have been using for about 3 years now across multiple PPC Phone devices that was causing the issue. Removed the software, reset and my problems have disappeared.
Now I need a stable, light vcard application that I can trigger from contacts. Suggestions, anyone?
well, i think the format i have the number i'm trying to text to is saved incorrectly.... what format works for people country to country?
i'm trying to reply to a norwegian text, and it never goes through. i know can receive them no problem... there is no issue for sending or receiving texts within US... did not have this problem under WM5...
Hi,
Just a quick one, wondering if its happened to anybody else before.
I got a couple of text messages the other day but the received number was about 20 digits long? It started off OK, with the right country code and mobile provider code, then its was just loads of random numbers?
Dunno if its the phone or somebody spoofing texts to me? Kinda weird! Just wondering if anybody else has had this issue?
Oh and I have swiftBL ROM.
Actually, while I'm here, I asked this question the other day, but lost the thread!
Is it possible to have an option to surf via WiFi, because whenever I click the browser it automatically starts to use HSDPA, but I'd be at home with me WiFi or in work with WiFi and I want to tell it to use the!
Thanks,
DG.
wifi
just turn wifi on in comms manager...jobs a good one
can't help you with the sms....but its working ok here
must be a dodgy sms...just bin it...or google the number and see if something pops up
have a good day
For 3 days now for a span of 1.5 hours a day I receive the same message from an unknown source. Ranging from every 2-5 minutes apart. Has anyone experienced this as well? Is this possibly from an AT&T Alert (QuickReach is what I was told) that no longer functions properly due to a flashed ROM?
Anyone ever heard of Quickreach?
Luckily I have unlimited SMS..so irritating.
Did you use a different SMSC # on your phone?
Happened to me once, because the dude that used the phone before me changed his smsc # on it.
There was another post on this that I ran across some time back. It stated that you might receive text messages like this when your phone is attempting to receive email through the push email function, but your phone is not connected to the internet. I do not have all of the info on this unfortunately, but I ran into it as well recently, and when I reconnected to MEdia Net, those texts stopped.
Hope this gives you some insight.
Aren't those the text messages you get after using OZ instant messaging? I used to get those when I used OZIM, as they updated its status, friend info, etc., and they would always stop as soon as I exited the application, or sometimes a few minutes afterward.
I'm not sure how you would stop this, but maybe flashing back to AT&T's stock ROM, and running OZ IM, then exiting the application fully would stop the messages. Then you could go back to whatever ROM you want. I'm not sure it would work, but it may be worth a shot. I hope that helps, and good luck,
Dave
Hey guys,
I have an unlocked HD7 from Bell and I'm using it under Rogers right now. I have a problem where my incoming SMS are behind by 5 hours. (They come right away but the stated time on them is off by 5 hours).
I tried fiddling with the timezone settings to match the times but then it messes up my calendar times.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Joey
Anyone figure this out?
I am 2 hours out (thinking it has to do with where the Bell SMS center is located)
hoping someone can figure out a fix
I am in Calgary, AB, Canada and using Fido if that makes a difference. I am thinking I could update to a different ROM, anyone know if that will work and what ROM I should choose?
thanks in advance
This is a known issue at Microsoft i mentioned it to them when i went there for an interview as well the only way to fix it is by doing the following.
1) goto Settings> Date & Time>
2) Turn off "set automatically"
3) Set Time Zone to "UTC Coordinated Universal Time"
4) Manually enter the correct time in the "Time" field
5) Adjust the date if you have to.
And Save and restart your phone this should fix the issue its not an actual fix but it works.
Well I took your advice and changed the timezone to UTC - 03 (then manually set the time)
Seems to have done the trick; will just have to remember to adjust for time zones I guess
thanks
Wait; spoke too soon
that messed up all the times for my email, the emails are all time stamped 3 hours in the future.
Oh well, guess I will just never have that "Perfect" phone.
Just annoying as this HD7 is probably the best phone I have ever had but there are so many of these annoyances...

What email are you using on the device? Outlook or just a standard Hotmail / Live acct? I will be unlocking my Bell HD7 very soon to use it on Rogers as well and I do not use Outlook so if the fix above sorts out the TEXT issue and does not bother my "Hotmail / Live" email then I will be a happy man however... I dont really use my email on my phone that much anyways so I guess as long as this fixes the SMS timestamp issue then I should be fine.
At any rate... If you could let me know anyways I would appreciate it.
***EDIT*** I tried this today after unlocking my Bell HD7 and running it on Rogers and it did not work at all. Now instead of the time stamp being 4 hours slow, it is now 2 hours fast using Universal Coordinated Time (UTC). Anyone else know how to get a proper time stamp on SMS after unlocking and using on a different network?
I just gave up and am now licing with a 4 hour tamestamp issue on my text.
my email, calendar and everything else works so this is just something I guess I have to live with. Not that bad
Email via hotmail & yahoo using the WP7 email program
My EVO does the same thing. Only when my cousin sends MMS he's on cricket. It has also done it when the towers messed up in my area.

Ya... Same with me. I gave up as well and am now living with the timestamp issue on my texts, mms, etc... My outgoing texts go out at the right time and are being received by the recipients at the right time but when I receive a text it is out of wack.
What I dont understand is that when I get a text and I get the "toast notification" at the top of my phone, the time stamp there is CORRECT but when I open my messages and look at the actual message itself it is out of wack. WEIRD!!!
Does yours do this as well?
Ok everyone figured I'd come here to where the experts live. Haven't been here in awhile.
Recently my S8, wifes S8, and our sons S8+ all have the same issues.
The first issue is texts get stuck "sending". This happens with WiFi on or off, with wifi calling on or off, and I even tried changing off LTE to just 4G/3G/2G and even 2g in settings to see if that would help. I'm on the latest firmware from TMO ending in QEF, well we all are.
The other one is apps like FB and others aren't alerting but they will show the number of alerts even after they've been checked. I've reinstalled these apps and the problem persists, and then I can reboot my phone or wifes phone and all the alerts start working again for awhile and then die eventually.
The texting issue though persists and is random when it will hang and when it doesn't.
According to TMO rep at the store it's a bug in the firmware with bixpy that was pushed out, but I frankly don't buy it and figured I'd hit the guru's up here and see if you guys have any thoughts.
Thanks in advance guys and gals....
I too have had the random "texts get stuck sending" issue. I haven't had it in a while though (now that I've said that I'm sure I will).
I unfortunately don't have any suggestions.
I ended up using googles version of messages due to this. Only on stock text app do i have any problems anymore. I also noticed on the stock app that my phone would say "sending" when the other side would actually get it, but it was at random.
You don't have a cellspot repeater or router do you? Last time I had it, my device was hung and needed reboots. Just a thought.
Thanks for the feedback, yes I have a cell spot, but I also have the issue other areas of town too with no real specific place thatbit always happens.
I'm going to reverse back from the qef firmware and see if that resolves things. This has been so annoying, and it just started about two weeks ago.
Thanks again everyone.
I have had the same issue with sending texts too. I have been using the stock messenger app. I may just switch to textra.
Same issue here. A temporary fix, try turning on airplane mode and off. Works for me a times
Also happening to me on the XAA firmware (have unlocked NA variant) with the stock messaging and Google messages.
So I'll ask the question begging to be asked (at least by me): How does one disable this messaging app and use "stock messaging" app?
Thanks in advance....

Just get a app disabler for Samsung from play store like BK Disabler.
If I were you, just download Android Messages. It's simple and fast.
However, I do not recommend disabling stock messaging, unless you don't like getting EAS (Amber/Weather/Presidential Alert)
Having the exact same issues and it's driving me crazy because I really like this phone. I don't get notifications for any of my apps but when I open them I can see the new messages. A reset seems to fix the problem but it only lasts about an hour before it starts doing the same thing. I've tried using different messaging apps but the same thing. And the fact that I don't get notifications for other apps it can't just be a text messaging issue right?
Happened to me for almost 2 months but haven't had an issue in about a week. Called t mobile, they created a ticket and said they'll be working on it. Few days after speaking to them, problem went away.
This has been happening intermitantly for me as well. It's been bad the past three days. I'm currently in coversations with T-mo's engineering team and they seem to be coming up with a bunch of dead ends. It's not a location based thing as it's been happening over a 20 mile radius in the past few days for me. Other people on T-mo network that I'm freinds with or I work with aren't having any problems. I'm wondering if just a fresh SIM card could solve it?
I have data connection although it seems a little sluggish compared to when I originally got the phone. Similar to OP I've tried all the "G's" modes, with wifi calling on, with it off, with cellular network preffered with wifi calling on and off. With Textra, with stock messaging app. I've factory reset to no avail. I've pulled and re-inserted the SIM card to no avail. This is incredibly frustrating for a flagship phone on a network where I've had no previous issues.
UPDATE: T-Mobile sent me a new SIM card and that seems to have cleared up the issues. Not sure if it just hapened to coincide with T-Mo tower fixes or anything else like that in my area but I'm back to normal operation. Anybody else experiencing this I recommend you push customer service to send you a new sim.
my husband and i are having a strange issue where we can message pictures and video clips to other people that don't have the s8, or aren't on tmobile and they'll send and receive just fine, but when we try to send to each other, the first attempt to send fails, but the second attempt goes through?
