[Q] Automate setting changes - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

Hi all,
First thing, if this is the wrong forum to post this in then I must apologise wholeheartedly and ask to be pointed in the right direction.
I have an SE x1i, WinMo 6.1 and Software version R3AA013. I hope I got that correct.
It's a great phone but I'm now finding little improvements that I would like to have to suit my needs.
What I am trying to achieve is to have an on screen icon similar to the enable/disable flight mode icon, that finds out the state of a few certain system settings and change them to an alternative state.
I would like to have a "car mode" icon that, with one touch, enables bluetooth functionality and at the same time changes an advanced power setting so that, while in "car mode" and on battery power, the "Turn of device if not used for xx min" is unchecked.
With a second touch of that "car mode" icon, those settings are reversed.
I am trying to find out (a) is it possible, (b) has someone already done it, (c) could I do it myself?
I could achieve this on my PC as I have had some experience with VB6 about 6 years ago but have not kept up with it or the changes in programming.
I know pretty much nothing about Windows mobile. It seems very similar in some aspects but also very different in other aspects to other windows operating systems.
For that matter, pretty close to the same applies to smart phones as well.
I hope I have explained myself clearly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers and thanks,
Graeme.

Start / Settings / Connections / Connections is *awful*

I find the windows mobile connection manager to be really horrible. Is there a more intuitive replacement available ? I'm not talking about the one with the HTC rom that just turns the various radios on/off.
It sure seems like there should be something with a scrollable list of connections (wifi / cellular / vpn) with a simple "connect" and "disconnect" button handy.
The way windows mobile does it just isn't intuitive at ALL.
Any thoughts on this ?
Thanks !
Couldn't agree more, speaking as someone who has just spent an entire weekend trying to get applications to work with my wifi and most of this morning trying to get my email working again (silly me, I should have "My ISP" selected).
And I never even touched the settings and Vodafone put the settings on there themselves!
There must be a better way?
I am using PhoneAlarm and the skin provides direct icons to switch On / Off the GPRS Radio the WiFi Radio and the BlueTooth. The icons also have indicator lights so that you know the status of a particular Radio
Hope this helps
couldn't agree more, is there anyway we can map one of the buttons to Comm manager? Any registry hack for that? I recently did the PTT button hack and looking to link it to Comm manager...
by default there's a button on the today screen on the kaiser right out of the box. There's a ton of hacks and ways to change it if you arent happy. It amazes me that people buy this phone and dont know how to upgrade/change things. MyFirstPhone sounds like a much better phone for some.

Did you read all of my post or just the first 5 words ?

Either the 6 or 10 button comm manager does exactly what you describe, but don't want. If you don't like it, create your own app to do it.
Personally, I am very, very grateful for the apps and utilities that people have created on this site. My life is so much easier.
I mapped the 10 button comm manager to my PTT button, so it's one button and one click to turn on/off any radio. It is NOT going to get any easier than that.

Uff
No, it doesn't.
Show me where you can disconnect and/or connect a VPN connection in the 6 or 10 button comm manager.
Screen shots happily accepted.

Some people you can never please....
It can control all RADIOS, which is what I stated. Some people complain about having to make a couple of extra clicks. The 10 button comm manager makes my life quite a bit easier, that's why I suggested it.

heh that makes me wonder also. its not the end of the world if you have to use an extra button press but some people will do anything to save one button press or complain their phone wont do what they want
A half solution ?
Hi
You can use mortscript “connect” function to start RAS connections of your choice, not only the "default connection" selected in "Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks".
Leave in selected connections a dummy connection without any modem or vpn definition (like My Work Network) in both Internet profile and Private profile. In This configuration WM can’t make a connection himself (no un-wanted connection).
For disconnection I use the disconnect button in top bar connection status provide by Schap’s Advanced configuration : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
I write a little mortscript exemple to start RAS connections and exclude in choice list default system connection (Work, The Internet, WAP Network, etc…) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1794522&postcount=181
You can also use BaterryStatus Advanced Edition with his Phone-TrayIcon : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751
Sorry for my poor English.

Background light setting problem

Hi,
under setting - system-displaylight-Battery
(not quite sure whether this is 100% correct because I am using the german version Einstellung-System-Beleuchtung-Akkubetrieb).
It is possible to set for the background light of the display the delay timer until the light dims down to safe battery.
The standard is 10s, I would like to use 30s.
So far so good, I am able to do the setting to 30s, but after a soft reset or after switching off/on the Kaiser there is again the default setting of 10s.
Do I miss any other preset of this battery safing function?
Any possiilities in Kaiser tweak or Registery setting?
So far I have not installed any other "System tool" for controlling Profiles or anything like that (I have the bluetooth patch, the new camera and album, tomtom, mobipocket, but those applications should not interfear with this system setting)
Best regards,
Claus
PS: I am using the Kaiser since a couple of days - great device - but this is my very 1st WM device, I was using the last years UIQ2 and UIQ3 devices from SE, therefore please forgive any newbie questions
no big news

Congrats! you have hit the same problem as many of us... I don't quite get this to work properly and didn't find any hint yet, so i went different way - disabled backlight and enabled screen turning off in settings -> system -> power (where you can see the battery bar with percentage)
Hope this helps at least a bit.
At least I am not alone in the dark
Many thanks for the reply.
Claus
PS: Why only "many of us" and not all of us?

The others didn't realize they have the same issue yet
I solved it now with Phone Weaver a Profil manager.
http://www.sbsh.net/
I am able to set this parameter and now the easy thing is that after a restart of the phone I just enable my prefered Profil and with the Profil I have also my setting for the background light.

Enabling 'finger scrolling' in Notes

Hi to all
I realise this is not a specific ROM type question, but if anyone was to know it would be you guys....
(I posted this in General with no responses)
Essentially, i am looking for a tweak that will make the 'Notes' program scrollable (kinetic..) with your finger. I have fiddled with a few Beta programs but all seem to conflict or have other issues, so no joy.
I am thinking there must be a reg tweak or something that will enable it or add it to a list or something (like the g-sensor whitelist) to make it finger scrollable - it seems odd on a stock 6.5 (SEA) ROM that this feature is not already available on this most basic program...
Any advice really appreciated (It's driving me nuts - and i don't have far to [email protected]!).
Cheers
Jabberoo
I would also like to know how to do this, but for RSS Hub's article view. I searched the registry and don't see anything. It seems stuck in "make selection" mode.
Actually, I know FTouchSL (www.ftouchsl.com) works but my problem is that it messes with all sorts of other apps on my phone (including HTC's stuff). I'd like to use it for just a few apps but it works by an exclusion principle ("blacklist": ignoring apps you don't want it to apply to) rather than inclusion ("whitelist": applying only to specific apps). Of course, I'm interested in the latter. The problem is, you have to go through the tedious process of excluding EVERY SINGLE APP you don't want it to work with!
I've emailed support at ftouchsl regarding a whitelist so we'll see if something turns up.
But if someone comes up w/ something to be able to finger scroll in Notes, I'd be VERY interested!
BTW, I have a GSM Raphael.
Wrong section, and a double post.
Closed.

Creating a user profile like flight mode.

Hi all,
Have been searching these forums for the last couple of hours and can't seem to find an answer.
I want to create a user profile that does certain system changes and actions which is what I believe flight mode does.
In my case, what I want to do is create a car mode (and eventually other modes to suit my needs as I find them) that starts my navigation software and other software and makes certain system changes.
I can perform these several changes manually but I would like to do them with one touch as flight mode does.
If there is a thread that already covers this then please accept my apologies and point me in the right direction.
Cheers,
Graeme.
What changes exactly do you want to make?
Hi and thanks for the interest,
It depends on the use but when I start "car" mode for example, I want to enable bluetooth and disable power saving and start my navigation software. Upon returning to "normal" mode I want to reverse those changes.
I hope that make sense.
Cheers,
Graeme
Try phoneAlarm. You can make few profiles and activate them manualy or automatic (clock, cell tower, busy or free...) And in profile you can enable/disable bluetooth, wi-fi, radio, data, run /kill programs, rotate screen ...

[Q] Automate setting changes

Maybe this program: http://www.ageye.de/index.php?s=gprofile/about ?
Thanks Xera, will have a look at this. From what I've read, it seems to do what I want.
Will repost when tested.
Cheers,
Graeme.
