Flashing with Donut Super Fast - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I read the root guide yesterday and did everything right, but I am currently flashed to 1.4, the same one linked at the end of the tutorial thread. Most apps in Market aren't there (not compatible) and it looks older. What do I do to flash to a newer one? I was wanting to go to Donut SuperFast 1.6 but I read it requires Death SPL. Am I alright using Hard SPL?
If so, what do I do? Just wipe, then flash the 1.6 over the 1.4?
Thanks

Stuck, don't know where to start now...

I have a tmob G1 and I've been running cyanogen for months with no problem. When I updated to 4.2.12 I noticed performance issues that I'd never seen before. This is commented on a lot at the cyanogenmod site and thats where I did most of my research. I read a post where someone factory defaulted, and then re-installed 4.2.12 and said it was flying again. They use DRC83 defanged? I know where to find that but I'm not sure what it is or if I need that. Many ppl made like comments. I read that I should get the radio and recovery imgs at the htc site so I did and flashed both. This is where (I think) I made my first mistake as I have a G1 and not an ADP1. My phone is now running fine with stock 1.6 and the above radio but instead of G1 it says my phone is a ADP1 (obviously). I've tried to install cyanogen 4.2.13 but I'm guessing that I am not rooted anymore because I can't? I've tried the rooting ADP instructions from cyanogen wiki and that doesn't work. Looking at the same instructions for the G1 it says I need to downgrade to RC29 but that seems like a big step backwards. Is that what I need to do? Do I have to start all over again? I don't know what my next move should be? Thanks!
Gonna have to Use the DreaIMG and go back down(make sure dont have danger SPL,but you went back down so dont think you do) then get the "signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721" and a recovery (i like amon ra 1.5.2) and get your fav rom( i would give superD 1.2 a try[1.6 requires danger SPL] and 1.2 seems the most stable) but if your goin to use cyan rom get the latest cyan rom, from there after flashed recovery go into recovery do a wipe then flash the dev ota, dont reboot, then flash cyans rom after do a reboot and should be back on cyan's rom
Brilliant! I'm back up and running latest cyanogen. I completely missed the part about dreaimg in the wiki instructions. Thanks for the help.
Also, out of curiosity, why do you like super d? Whats the difference between it and cyanogenmod? Thanks again.
Super D is, in a way, one step faster then the current CM build. It comes with a 10mb ram hack pre-installed as well which is always nice. Don't get me wrong, CM has a dedicated thread on 10mb ram hacks.
Ultimately, it comes down to user experience. And it's always nice to try something new.

I like Cyan roms just as much as anybody, to a personal pref. i had lot of problems, gapps went missing after updated, FC's and what not, and i did everything from going back down(dreamimg) to update from latest, still had problems, then i wen to superD and i notice a great increase of speed and all around well stabled rom

How do I downgrade successfully from CM6 to 1.6

Hi all, just looking for some advice. I was recently running CM6 on my G1 but I got a vibrant yesterday. With that said, i'm giving my g1 to my sister and was just gonna throw a Super D, or quicker donut rom of some sort so she doesn't have to deal with lag/learn how to use apps like setcpu and such, itd confuse her too much. When I try flashing back to any Donut ROM, i'm getting stopped at the boot animation. It's not even looping it, just consistently going. Any reason as to why? Here's some specs.
Danger SPL
Amon Ra 1.7.0
Newest G1 Radio
Thanks guys.
Try another 1.6 rom, there are faster out there. Just make sure that you wiped clean.
Use every wipe option on there.
Did you do a full wipe

If you are using Firerat's MTD hack, you need to downgrade your recovery to ra-1.6.2. Remember that the new recovery does not agree with the old apps to sd. From there, do a full wipe, flash DRC83_base_defrangled, and super D. You should probably install the market ADW as well, (superD uses an old version of it), and also remove the spareparts and terminal just so she doesn't mess with it.

[Q] Easiest, Safest path to CM6?

Hi everyone.
I recently bricked a G1 via Danger SPL and bought a new one. I'm merely a developer testing my games on the G1 however I'd like to have multi-touch functionality as well as 2.2 support, but I don't want to brick it. I'm on 1.6 right now.
What is the easiest way to root and then flash to CM6? I tried searching and only found old tutorials that said different things and I don't want to screw around, I just want CM6 running asap and not another brick.
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure you don't need the danger spl to run cm6 it says danger came out before the g2 I have ran cm without the danger spl theunlockr.com has an easy way to root the phone it also walks you through how to install the rom.

You could just use the ROM bible in the G1 forum. It's really simple and I just rooted and flashed my G1 yesterday. If you need any help just pm me and I'll gladly you give any advice I know.
download universal androot from the market (or find the .apk online) and install it. It will root the phone without any trouble. Then use the terminal to flash a custom recovery.
Finally, flash the danger spl correctly this time or use firerat's mtd patch to install cm 6

Post above says I don't need Danger SPL?
What is FireRat's mtd?
Could someone link me to a direct tutorial for all of this?
It'd be awesome if I could get step-by-step on:
Flashing Clockwork Recovery
Safely Flashing CM6.
Will CM6 work without DangerSPL?
Are there other Froyo alternatives that are easier to get to?
Also, an easy way to alternate between 1.5 and 2.2 would be great. Something as simple as flashing a ZIP to get back to 1.5, then flashing a ZIP to get back to 2.2.

Need help flashing roms to G1

I have been trying to flash the CM7 Rom to my G1 and continue to get the same error messages... I tried uploading a pic but the app wouldn't let me, so I will try and get the pic posted asap

what is your radio/spl?
also have you flashed many other roms before?
Please using following combination for Radio and SPL. Also note, flash radio first and then SPL otherwise G1 will not boot. Also make sure you have Clockworkmod recovery for CM7. This recovery helps for smooth flashing for CM7.
update_2.22.28.25_S - Radio
hboot0013d-signed - SPL

OK, this might be sorta a strange question, but this looks to be the best place to ask it.
Will the Dream be bootable if you flash only the Radio and SPL, leaving untouched the stock Android 1.6?
While I am a Linux geek, I am new to android and prefer to take things one step at a time. That explains why I have a Rooted dream with Amon RA with the stock 1.6 backed up with nandroid.

never tried, theoretically it should be as if you did a factory reset and you would just use your recovery to replace anything lost. but if you want to be safe maybe someone who has will chime in.
besides the point go ahead and flash a new rom, even if you stick with 1.6 firmware the developers have come out with much superior roms over the stock android. if you want only 1.6 try super d or super csdi
ok so i decided to test this out, updating a g1 to the 2708+ radio/spl and not flashing a new rom -------- stuck on g1 boot screen, hit call+menu+power then hit home to reboot to recovery, reflashed rom and gapps, rebooted, now everything is good as can be, so to answer your question --- yes it appears you need to flash a rom after you update your radio/spl

[Q] HTC Dream G1 original on 1.1

Is there a one click method on rooting HTC Dream G1 first one running 1.1?
Thanks.
Will z4root work or superoneclick and which versions as 1.1 is oldskool
Errmmm...
It'd be a LOT better if you flashed one of the newer custom ROMs, such as froyobylaszlo (2.2) which is awesome
1.1 is old, has no newer apps available for it, and is...old
Heres a basic outline of what you need to do
It will wipe all data though
Root and install CM6, actually you can stop right after DangerSPL before flashing CM6, and be very careful and follow directions very closely: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Dream:_Rooting
Install 2708+ kernel radio/spl: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
Install froyobylaszlo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929678
Make sure you follow all directions carefully though
If you'd rather stay on the old horrible 1.1 here: ...wait you can't
You'd need to do the above and just go with a newer custom ROM, or you might be able to do it on an official later firmware, but that's pointless
