Hello. I am considering to buy an HTC p4350. So I was wondering if Herald can play full screen unconverted (as it was downloaded) divx movies?
TCPMP player shoould be able to play it. The performance depends on resolution and bitrate. OMAP CPUs (like herald has) have severe problems with any movies in higher resolution than native 320*240, so don§t even think of playing CD movies.
The conversion is with right software (I can reccomend Spb Mobile DVD) a mater of several mouseclicks. It easily turns any DVD, avi or mpeg your PC can read into PPC-friendly 320*240 xvid (or 640*480 if you have vga machine)
you can also use pocketdivx it is freeware and then tcpmp to watch

I used to have an Siemens SX1 so I always reencoded my divx movies (700 mb but I do not know the res.) in to small movies which SX1 could easily play. But I am tired of converting them. Since I am going to have a huge (2 or 4 gb) sd card then I thought I could forget about that converting trouble. I guess I was wrong?
On a 2gb card you can only put 1 and 1/2 movie (unless you download crappy quality movies) so converting is something you should do anyway.
Some movies are only 150 MB then
As I said, it is matter of 4 or 5 clicks to convert the movie. It used to be trouble back when the only tool we had was virtualDub, but nowadays there is a bunch of specialized softwarers, so it i really an easy task.
You are talking like it does not take any time to convert. Yes Just a few clicks but what about the waiting for the process to finish?
what are you doing at night????
if you are not programming al the time - just let it convert the night and you ahve the movie on your xda for daywork - hehe
jsut kidding

Thanks a lot. I guess I am going to be around next few years for every problem I will encounter with Herald.
Take Care..
It's not even necessary to convert during the night; depending on the size of the original file with pocketdivx you can convert a 700MB DivX movies within a few minutes (5) into a 320*240 ppcmovie
Hmm. That sounds good then..
What about transfering files to the pda? Do I have to use Activesync or cardreader/bt? Can Herald be connected as a usb mass storage device?
with wm5torage you can acces xda as masstorage - but usb1.1 only.
so with adapter and cardreader it is much faster...

You may note that some movies may be able to run absolutely fine in their native format by just overclocking it to 247/260Mhz. I do this several times with some 700MB/1.2GB movies, which are of high bitrate

streaming DivX
I was wandering if there is any way someone might know how to play streaming DivX and/or macromedia files. Here is a link to a page that I am unable to play (have flash bundle and TCPMP Player installed).

Thanks for any info u can provide.
I find that a temporary overclock to 286 while watching high resolution video files does the trick, also if you are using tcpmp sometimes the video will not appear until you press fullscreen mode.
sorry if this has been mentioned already

Hmmmm. All 700MB divx movies I've "acquired" only take up about 200 megs after reencoding with dr. divx. And the quality's flawless. In fact, right now I have the first seasons of the simpsons and family guy, as well as harold and kumar go to white castle all on a 2 gig card.
I've been trying to watch a .wmv video file on my TD2, but using WM Player its jerky.
I was wondering if it makes any difference if the file is on the actual device or a storage (SD) card from a performance point of view, i.e. does the phone read from its own memory quicker than the storage card?
Also, which is better out of TCPMP or Core Media Player?
Coreplayer
Can anyone answer my 1st question?
I have 8GB microSD card and when i am using it, it dosent make any difrence.
BUT! make sure you dont use all your memmory on the card, because the movies lags when you have full memmory.
Store All Your Video & Watch them from Storage Card !
It's makes "No" difference if the file is on the actual device or a storage (SD) card !! But, it will be better to convert the WMV to 3GPP format because WM Player have nothing special compare to other Multi-Media Player.
Also, it's real stupid that WMPlayer need to go to menu to stop the Video...
You just can't simply press the End Phone button to stop the Player or swift to other features... the Player is still running in the background!
Look Out for my thread regarding HTC ALBUM for Pocket PC Version 2.51 (Build 18676) in this forum under xda-developers > Topaz > Topaz general > Can Zoom-In & Zoom-Out while playing Video... Video Screen can rotate 360 degree. This Album_Multi-Media Player created by HTC for O2 xdaII Mini Pocket PC.

A clear, quality picture is required without any jerkiness, so I don't want to "downgrade" to 3GPP.
The .wmv file has a pretty high bitrate and if I reduce the size to 320x240 it plays fine without any jerkiness, but I'd like it to play the same at 640x480 !

i have the same problem too, it "lag" when i play video in full screen, can someone help? any idea how to fix this?
thanks
Have a look in this tread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517550
It was easy to find...
Anyway, i convert all my video using the VideoEncoder i linked to in the other tread, and play them in the HTCAlbum player(The same player thats used for video you recorded yourself).
The result is almost perfect playback, so I'm very happy with it.
hello I just bought captivate three days ago and yet haven't figure out lots of it yet.
I love this device, but only problem that I got now is that it plays regular .mkv video files without converting it but I can't skip or fastforward it. I tried to dl some other video programs, but that wasn't helpful.
and you know you can't just finish the 3 hours of movie at once.
If someone knows how to fix this plz tell me
thx
let me throw an mkv on my phone and test it!
I played it through the stock player, and all I did was tap the screen and I was able to move the seekbar. My guess is that you have a broken MKV file.
I tried 3 different movies.
Pirates.of.the.Caribbean.3.2007.Bluray.x264.720p.AC3-WAF 4.5gb
King.Kong.2005.720p.HDDVD.x264-BKL 8gb
You might want to try RockPlayer but you have to side load it to use the ARMV7 version.
http://www.anplayer.com/index_en.html
It could be the format of the movie. I've got some ctrlHD movies that are working.
yea i tried rock player, but it didn't work

If you play your MKVs on your computer using vlc, can you seek? And most likely this is going to be moved to the general or app thread once a mod sees it.
but isn't it kind a weird? I can skip and fastfoward w.e i want to do with on my comp, but not on galaxy when it plays flawless

VLC will only temporarly repair broken movies. I think it prompts you when it does.
I have my Blu-Ray backup of avatar on my device and it seek works.
I had to split my movies into 4gb chunks bc of FAT limitations. Are you running a different file system? How did you get an 8gb file on your phone?

Oh I didn't know I have to split, and yea it didn't work when I tried to put them on with samsung kies. so I just put them with regular method just by putting directly into the folder. I will try to split the movie and try again maybe that was why it won't work properly. what kind of program do you use to split the blu ray movie though? mine takes forever to do that
alright I just split my videos with mkvmerge with less than 3 gb which works fine on my computer and run with vlc before I put on my phone. Somehow, movie doesn't even play at all.

I didn't even think about it being too large. What filesystem are you running? FAT32 can not handle a file larger than 4gb. If you are streaming from your PC it would cause seek issues.
1) wrong place
2) Format/container/encoding/size
just because it's an MKV does not mean with will work the same as there may be any number of differences in the stack of details that make up the file.
(! Personally, and forum wise, I say rip your own legally owned copies !)
Let me ask a dumb question, do you have the screen locked? Pressing the power button when playing video locks the screen.
I may be under-thinking it but I fear people are over-thinking it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
HAHAH No that's not the case here.
I just won't be able to seek the movie if I put mkv files in it
hey i just got hold of my captivate....i was using an iphone earlier and itunes was a bliss....i cant seem to figure out how to use the samsung kies to automatically sync music, songs an videos??
i did it manually though by creating a music folder.....

If that doesnt work (I havent tried doubletwist) maybe one of these apps might work.
I dont have my captivate yet (never owned an android phone before either) so let me know if any of those work out.
if you manually add your media to your device, you can arrange it however you want....beauty of android=its yours to do with what you want

By videos do you mean movies? If that's what you're doing then I use DVD Decrypter to rip them to my laptop then AutoGK to convert them to XviD. I just leave all settings default and set the size to 1CD (700MB). The movies play fine and it's not like it's taking up too much storage space.
I play .avi due to its file size.
Otherwise I don't miss itunes except for pod casts.
Now I can put what media I want on my sdcard and don't worry about it.
You get used to it.

Drag and drop is the perfect way to put anything on any device.
The fact that people want junk programs (especially one like iTunes, which loads a chunk of it's bloated self at startup and slows your computer down) is mind boggling.

Try isyncr. It doesn't require a program on your computer and will sync play-counts and ratings back and forth. I really missed iTunes myself and this helped with the transition.

Isyncr is by far the best especially if you add the wifi tool for a buck I think...never even have to plug phone into computer just walk into house and click on wifi app and auto syncs what you select
Edit....Of course that requires a wireless network

hey can u please lemme know from where can u download .apk files for apps and games? ? ?i just learned how to do sideloading....
Put me down as another iSyncr supporter. I like using iTunes to manage my music library, but not lock down my device.
In handbrake, I've had good success with using the default iPhone preset, but changing the horizontal resolution to match the source video (up to 800). A high quality 2hour movie runs about a gig that way. Medium quality is about 400mb.

The problem is - do not transfer them using iplayer. Just copy the files to your SD card and play them with MX Player. If you're having problems with playback, switch to software decoder. I've watched WMV files on my XZ ( and other Android phones ) without any problems.

iPlayer downloads contain DRM (otherwise there would be no way of expiring them).
Refer to the "What is sideloading?" section of the iPlayer FAQs (I cannot post links). There are no Xperia phones on the list of compatible devices. There are no phones listed at all in point of fact (although it is possible the list is out of date), and I don't think any of the devices that are listed are Android-powered. It states you need to start playing the file before transfer to obtain a license, but you still need a player on the phone that supports DRM.

Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We apologise for the issues you are experiencing when trying to play WMV video files on your Sony Xperia Z.
We can confirm that the Sony Xperia Z does not support this type of file. Unfortunately we are unable to support third party applications and would advise that if you are experiencing issues with the "MX Player" application, that you contact the software developer directly for further information.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

You could give VLC for android a shot, WMV is listed as supported:
DivX/Xvid

.Mkv

.Mp4
and a few other uncommon video formats.
It is beta, yet still my favorite player.
