problem in Media Player mode - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello all
I have this problems that bothers me so much and i couldn't find a way to solve it
When I plug the Captivate in Media Player it just go crazy. First it shows "MTP Application" windows and display "initializing" and it start blinking "closing and reopening"
did any one encounter such a problem ?!

When I did a little more research I found that it's a common problem in Galaxy S series. Some indicated that the problem is in the MTP application reading the SD when it contains files with more than 16 character extensions.
I formatted the internal SD and at first it seemed that it worked but later the problem reoccurred !
Any thoughts ?!

Strage USB Mass storage problem

Hi, I have a problem, if I try to put something on Diamond using USB Mass storage, strange error (somethink like "way is too deep" - I dont know, my windows are running Czech, so I dont know English name of this error) come. What can I do? I use 1.93 ROM.
I have the same problem! In English is says something like 'cannot copy [filename] - the path is too deep.'
My USB mass storage is not working properly, as in this thread, but when it does work it gives this error near the end of each file transfer.
Yes, I am happy that anyone else has this problem too.
Are you using any other USB storage at the same time? That seems to be what was causing my problem.
I have exactly the same. Only another USB Mouse is connected. I still hope its because of the lame USB 1.1 of my laptop. Trying it on the USB 2.0 2moz.
No, it is not. I have in fact very high-end PC, and I has this problem.
Well.. then Damn it.. Hope its ok with another Rom i'll update soon. Otherwise i have to live with lame as **** Active sync
My words friend, my words.
It means the path is too long, as in the amount of characters.
Instead of copying 'nameofafilewithalargenameblablablaablablabalabla.bla' to a folder like /Folder/Folder/Folder try keeping it short. Hopefully this will fix your problem.
This is not a problem, I am copying normal files, such as videos named like serial.E1.s03.avi right to root of the device.

Xperia Usb Connection and Charging Problem...

Hai..
iam new bie, i just newly purchased xperia xli. after using 4 month, iam now facing some problem, every time if i need to charge or connection for active sync i need to restart, and this repeats every time. and if i try to open task manager or Device information in settings it will give an error
"cannot open 'ctlpnl'. A critical conponent is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable. Tap start> settings > system tab> task manager, stop programs that did not automatically stop and try again".
and i cannot even make screen off by pressing power button for that also i need to restart.
So please give me some information regarding this so that i can solve this problem.
Thank you
I would hardreset it
Thanks for reply
I had done it already, after hard reset first time i can charge and connect to active sync also, and if i disconnect it and try another time it wont work, again i have to hard reset to charge or to connect it to active sync. so pls give me solution for this,
for more information i will provide my device information

xperia usb connection problem
i see no one is taking this matter seriously
i have googled for the past 4 weeks and it seams many people are having this problem with xperia/wm6 devices - its just that not many of them understand the problem and know how to express themselves (e.g. many belive it's a problem with the pc's usb ports)
i would suggest does interested in IT mysteries and things like that to look into this one. i can explain the problem here:
I've used xperia/windows mobile 6 device for about 6 months, syncing it daily or semi daily (or weekly..) all that time via USB connection and active sync installed on winxp.
one day i plugged the usb cord into my phone and - nothing. the phone has started charging as thou it's connected to a charger and not to a PC - one of the first things i noticed cause i specifically always have the "don't charge the device while connected to a pc" box ticked on.
what is very important to know is that NOTHING of the following didn't fix this problem:
changing cords
changing ports
changing pc's
soft reset via button on the back
hard reset
nudging the cable
usb hub pc connection
direct pc connection
updating windows mobile
toggling ANY option in the OS itself
charging/discharging the device
changing the chargin cable, then connecting
leaving it off without a battery for a long period of time (12+ hours)
---------all other idiotic suggestions that are being written all over the net by dumb asses who think they can shoot a guess and come of as smart guys---------
bear in mind that this happened after absolutely no physical damage to the device or any kind of extreme working conditions, exceeded cpu/memory use etc.
it would be great if someone could solve this mystery. activesync is still working via Bluetooth but it's just stupid to transfer files over the slow bluetooth connection whilst having a USB connection as one of the greatest advantages of this kind of a device
i kindly thank in advance to anyone having some kind of an idea about how it's possible for a USB connection to just stop working, for absolutely no reason.
bye&cheers!
Matija
Anyone has the solution for this problem? Like Matija said, it happened suddenly for no reason... My x1 has been facing this problem for 3 weeks
I cannot update my phone via my PC
I recently having problem with my X1 syncing with my home PC and charging from my Laptop
Now I found out that, those mini USB cable might be good enough to charge the phone, or even trying to sync, but then it gets error more and more often. So try getting some better quality cables (ie. those with "Magnetic Shield" near the end), see if that fix the problem
good luck

Having the same problem here.. I faced it after I formatted it by clicking on (Clear Storage) under System tab.

Wireless Media Transfer: Cannot Pair With Windows 7 PC

I have a new Z3C and want to use the Wireless Media Transfer option but I cannot get the device to pair with a Windows 7 x64 PC (I've tried two PCs now). I have the device in MTP mode, but when I right-click on "Xperia Z3 Compact" and choose the "Network Configuration" option the wizard hangs while trying to transfer the settings. I even installed PC Companion, and made sure everything is up-to-date but I just cannot get it to work.
I want to use this feature so I can access my micro SD card without messing with the flaps: transferring music and tag editing using mp3tag are essential to me and I don't want to wear out those delicate little flaps!
Well I tried pairing wireless with Win. 7 and failed too, don't know exactly what's the problem. My suggestion would be to use ES explorer though. You can add your PC to the LAN tab by entering the internal IP and just copy to the internal memory (no SD card access thanks to Google). From there the preinstalled File Commander can move your music to SD.

Had the same issue on Win7, hang while transferring settings. On the 3rd attempt it did pair successfully. I noticed that windows was installing a device driver on the first pairing attempt, maybe that just needed to complete first.
The Transfer Settings stage does take a while, so it may just look like it's hanging. How long did you try it? Also you may need to allow portable devices access in your firewall (as the popup advises).
I left it a good 10 minutes. No drivers were being installed and no firewall popups appeared (I don't use the Windows software firewall).
Same here (64bit) win 8.1 I let it run until the 'can't complete' dialogue shows
Having the same issue here - anyone else fixed it until now ?
It happens to me at first... But if you will make screen time out more like 10 + min, while pairing configuration it does connect. Its because of screen goes off then it wont connect.

What helped me was making sure the screen didn't turn off, might be an idea too to temp disable Stamina while it goes through its process, it does take a while.

I had the same problem, solved it this way (hope I remember correctly)
on phone:
- set screen sleep to 30 minutes (Settings - Display - Sleep)
- turn off stamina mode (Settings - Power Management)
-plug into PC with USB
on PC:
- "Computer", right click "Xperia Z3 Compact" and select "Network Configuration"
- Click through with "Next/OK" until you get the screen that says something about "transfering settings" (or something like that) where it seemed to hang on previous attempts.
...and now the most important part - WALK AWAY!! Make a sandwich or something, come back in 30 mins and all should be OK - it's not actually hanging, just looks unresponsive while it does it's thing - be patient.
Good luck!
I did pair with PC using USB. The problem I have is that it hangs for 1 or 2 minutes while trying to connect to PC with WI-FI. Then it fails. I try for like 15 times, then for no reason it works. It only happens when I'm using my home wi-fi. I tried to connect with a friend's wifi, and it worked in a few seconds.

MTP File Transfer

Hello,
currently i can't say what is working with my Phone. For me suddenly MTP stopp working.
I test it under Windows 10 and Ubuntu and nothing is working.
I know that the default is charging mode and switching to the right mode is necessary.
Connection with adb works, also the useless MIDI mode.
I don't have a idee how to fix this issue.
Thanks for helping me

I have seen similar problems, I believe those were twice worse before 3.5.4 but it is still happening. For me MTP only works more reliably when the "dual mode MTP + drive" takes place (which I believe gets triggered after the "MTP only" mode crashes at least once).

I upgrade the ROM to 3.5.4 and remove Xposed media optimizer. Seems to working.
My core problem is the Android media services, that work horrible by detecting small changes in Tags.
I'm currently correcting the tags on my MP3, mosty small things in the spelling. Copy it again to the phone and nothing changed. Deleting the media storage app isn't a good choice to fix it. I'm loosing my playlist every time and automatically created playlist can't by save to a backup.

First thoughts and current issues

Mine arrived yesterday, so I have not had much time to "play". But here are my first impressions and the issues I have found.
First impressions (coming from an LG G3).
It is super fast. I really like that.
The phone signal strenght seems better. So, either they "lie" on the display or the antenna is better.
No bloat - nice.
I got the 128Gb one. Loads of free memory and storage. I like that.
Screen is OK.
It came with dual sim slots which I didn't know - I can now use both sims in one phone.
Now, issues:
It won't connect to my PC. I get a "USB device not recognised" error. Spent ages chatting with their techie and I need to put it into USB debug mode and the load an ADB driver which they could not provide. How STUPID is that.
The capacitive button lights are so dim as to be unusable and only come on as you press on the spot. What is the point of that?
Bluetooth won't connect to my headset (MPows) unless I put it into APTX mode.
Bluetooth connects to my car for phone, but while it tries to play audio, there is nothing there. I have loaded some music and it plays OK using VLC. Maybe the music is in the wrong place but I have no idea how to check.
If anyone has any idea on my first issue, I would be grateful for some help.

I had this issue, it would appear to fairly common. What worked for me was the following.
1) Disconnect your phone and restart windows. (Restarting windows was necessary for me as attempting to connect the phone and it failing caused something that was only cleared by a reboot).
2) Enable developer options and on the phone and select USB debugging mode.
3) While you are in developer change Select USB Configuration to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).
4) Check step 3) actually stuck. It takes a few goes for me and others for some reason.
5) Connect it to your PC
6) Hopefully it will mount as a drive called Oneplus Drivers or something similar (can't remember the exact name). In this driver is a setup up for the USB driver installation. Run it as admin and install.
7) If that all worked you should now have the mounted drive described above and your Oneplus 5 as a separate mounted MTP device in explorer which you can access the internal storage from.
For me, I can't disconnect and reconnect without rebooting windows and repeating steps 3,4 & 5 above. There is clearly either a bug in Oxygen or a driver issue that needs resolving but hopefully this will work for now. For info, with the phone connected my PC won't shut down. It does boot to the login screen but won't actually show the login prompts! Weird.
Thnks Chris. At the moment, I can't get MTP mode to "Stick". I'll keep trying. I may have also found some ADB drivers (on my laptop which is not near me at the moment).

One more issue - playing music over bluetooth, it occasionally "stutters" and I hear what appears to be a very small gap in the music - about 1/10th second - but noticeable. Has anyone seen (heard) this?

I have had this with a previous phone, not this one. What does the catlog say during the stutter? Mine showed errors regarding the Bluetooth communication, does yours do that? This can help you find out if it's software or hardware.
My capacitive buttons seem dimm as well, haven't really noticed that before..
AT,
What is the catlog? Where do I find that?

Alan,
If you try and set MTP mode a few times it will stick. However, the text under Select USB Configuration will still say "Charging" unless you leave the Developer options menu and go back in again. Then it should say "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)".
Chris,
You are a star. That worked and I can now see my internal storage.
Thank you
I just have to find out why my 2016 BMW will not see the music over bluetooth now (my old LG G3 worked fine)

Haven't tried to mount to PC yet. Surprising it isn't like the oneplus 3 where it mounts a separate drive on the PC with the drivers?

The only thing I can think to do is delete the phone from the car's memory entirely. Delete the connection from the phone entirely, and start all over. You may have done that, but on my 2013 Veloster I have had times where I needed to just start over completely. Having said that, no problems out of the box for me so far with the OP5 in my car, bluetooth gym headphones, or either bluetooth speaker I use. It's been very easy.
I tried that - still the same. The attached picture shows what I get.
This is my last major issue with this phone.....
Alan
Onother issue i just found out...
Maybe someone else found a fix, but i didnt....
With my OP2 i always conncted e Little USB adaptor with a micro sdcard in it to the phone to Transfer Music or any other files to or from the phone. When i connected it to the phone it imidiatly was recognized and in the filemanager one more Folder was created to manage These files.
But on my OP5 nothing happens....... can someone help?
Edit: last Oxygen Update, OTG is on, USB Debugging is on

Yeah, I think TechTablets on Youtube also mentioned USB-on-the-go not working on his OnePlus 5.

Would be sad without that feature because always connecting to my PC wouldnt be such comfortable for filetransfer....
Hope that the developer from Oneplus will fix it in future
Had an issue with the APN for T-Mobile in the US. I had data and could make VOLTE calls etc but email through TypeApp or Blue mail would not sync and various other programs had issues (connection errors), over wireless at the house everything was fine. I added the APN suggested by T-mobile haven't had an issue since. All I changed was the APN protocol to IPv6/IPv4 (was just IPv6) and removed hipri and supl from the APN type.
Everything works as it should.
hey I want to ask a question
is the camera on the op5 worse than the note 5 ?
In the advanced settings I noticed a Bluetooth codec option which might help.
I haven't tested it on the car yet. mines a 17 VW so will test it
I've tried changing the codec - no difference.
another annoiing issue....it changes network from O2/4G LTE to EPlus 3G. So i disabled automatic network and switched manual to O2 again. But the same....it really s...ks, because most time it runs with Edge only
tapatalked...
Only issue I have at the moment is too sensitive autorotation of the screen. Even though the rotation happens very fast, I would prefer it not turning in the first place if phone is rotated only few degrees. I wish there was a way to adjust the angle when to rotate the screen.
