So I am moving here from Raphael Section and I have a doubt that I could not clear by searching through Rhodium and Topaz forums.
What is the difference between Manila 2.1 and Manila 2.5 or as HTC wants us to call it, HTC sense 2.1 and HTC sense 2.5?
Is the home screen weather (the one with full screen clouds, snow etc.. on a full screen layer) available in both?
Thanks
I'd also like to know this as I've used 2.5 and not overly keen on all the changes.
yes, both have weather animation on the home screen. 2.5 has more detailed animation but is slower, 2.1 animation runs a lot smoother i found.
thank you
I will try 2.1 first.
I think 2.5 might become more optimized once HD2 matures.
Anyways, last few days of reading has landed me with following list.
1) 2.5 has widget themed home screen. i.e. clock, calendar, shortcuts are made to look like widgets. However, they are not as configurable as Hero or SPB shell.
2) 2.5 is social networking centric with support for twitter, facebook, footprint, youtube uploading, etc.. 2.1 has just facebook integration.
3) 2.5 has landscape support for audio, gallery tabs which has cover flow inspired from iphone
4) HTC says that sense 2.5 has deep roots in the ROM and is not just a today's screen plugin. I cannot confirm this in cooked ROMs as i haven't got my Pure yet. But this is what HTC said in one of the HD2 previews.
5) 2.5 is designed for 1GHz processor and thus might be too much for our 528 Mhz processors.
6) If you are not a twitter user and don't quite use your phone for playing songs, go for 2.1. It will always be more stable than 2.5 on our phones. HTC designs it with our phone in mind.
I might be wrong with this list.... and it won't be the first time
Thanks.
Yea I've tested some various builds before starting to cook my own and I like the 2.1 version. It feels like normal Manila but with the animated homescreen which is a nice touch. Manila is MUCH better on a WVGA phone vs the Raphael's VGA screen (too cramped).
My favorite build was Dutty's and had a nice simple black background. I like things simple.
Manila isn't bad, but I HATE how EVERY part of the screen is clickable and takes you to an app; especially the HUGE clock. I always end up launching apps I don't want. I guess Titanium is the same way but it has a tendency to scroll before actually clicking, so there are less app launches.
That plus it adds like 60mb to a rom (wtf).

ah thank you
I take the above stated, to ask if the 2.5 Manila have weather fullscreen animation with other background that the default one. I didn't found ANY possibility of having personalized background's with the weather fullscreen animation in 2.1 - at all. Anyway, I guess that is supported by the 2.5 Manila version.
Can someone confirm this, please.

Yes, with manila 2.5 you can choose between 2 options:
Weather Wallpaper
Animated Wallpaper
The weather wallpaper lets you choose any wallpaper and the animated weather will work with it, in the whole screeen, bealtifull but slows the Topaz to a crawl.
The animated wallpaper just do a kind of glow bottom to top, behind the clock and links of the first screen, with whatever picture you choose.
Thanks for that info.
That's what I need - weather wallpaper in 2.1 Manila.
I'm so desperate....
guys, thanks for the summary

looking for sense 2.1 rom from desire z and desire hd.... any idea
I have been searching around for a while and haven't found the Manila 2.5 weather clock for our Manila 2.1 roms. I saw there was 2.1 roms with the weather clock for the rhodium roms but nothing for the fuze. I know they successfully ported manila 2.5 for vga but Im looking for stability and the 2.5 still has a lot of bugs to work out. But has anybody seen the weather clock for our raphaels for manila 2.1?

Unfortunately, no. Devs are working on the project but are running into dependency issues. I think it's something that will happen in the near future, but hasn't happened yet. The ones that are "working" now are still buggy and aren't 100%. Sorry, I guess we'll just have to wait a bit longer.
I used Cookie Home Tab 1.8 and in that there was an option do disable the minute flips of the Clock apart from the 1:02 clock flip . So the clock works like Android Sense UI absolutely No Flipping of clock... i would like for someone to share that as manila file or as cab file cause Slower and older devices could use that to get bit of extra performance and smoothness in their sense 2.5....
Thanks
i would appreciate this as well if someone could find that manila file.
i have a t-mobile htc touch pro 2, and i would like to have the animated weather on my home page, but i am not sure how to do so. would i need to flash sense 2.1 or sense 2.5 on my phone? also, where would i be able to located the ROM for Sense 2.1 or 2.5? and would it work if the my ROM version is 1.91.531.4
thanks so much for the help!
ROM 1.91 from TMOUS has included Sense 2.1, but it has just disabled front page weather animation (because it quite slows down whole Manila), I suggest you searching a bit how to enable it.
Im running CM7 and i love it for the speed but i'm not a fan of the dock or status bar, as a previous user on Sense on my HTC Wildfire i loved the UI and really want the dock bar and status bar on CM7. (note i'm not bothered about having any of the icon pictures changed).
1) If there is a mod to install that is cool with me and id slightly prefer it than a theme because from my understanding themes are less than perfect.
2) If i have to have a whole theme (i imagine i will) i'd prefer it to be for ADW but launcher pro is also fine. Take note the status bar and dock must be included and work, i don't care if the icons have been changed to the HTC icons or not.
Thank you in advance!
(Ps. Before someone comes along and says have you tried searching the answer is yes however, I only found poor themes without dock bar. Also i am very busy currently so didn't have a lot of time to look in fact i barely had time to write this out. Anyway sorry if this is a easy thing to find but iv'e told you why i havn't found it).
You could try LP sense UI. It looks just like sense dockbar. It is a launcher pro theme. Just look for it on 4shared. I don't think it is available through the market. It won't change your status bar. You will have to look through cm7 themes and find one close.
There's an HTC elegance theme you can find in the cm7 theme sticky
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
The best way to get a Sense notification bar is probably to use the Ultimate Onlline Kitchen. Use the empty theme Mendozinas provides, add the Sense notification icons, and cook. You should be all set.
Thanks to you all I chose to use LP sense UI which works great and especially like that it brings the fake sense widgets with it. Will probably also use Ultimate Onlline Kitchen to gain the Sense notification bar. (Assuming that they don't interfere with each other but im guessing they wont.)
Look up NT sense
Signatures are fancy.
You should check out my sense theme for cm7. It is essentially LP Sense UI but i've included dozens of sense clocks, NTSense, and many other themed Sense apps. There is a link to it in my signature, if you do try it out, could you give me some feedback? I stopped working on it because nobody responded and I assumed nobody downloaded it. Could you show some love?
