MMS with Desire Roms - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had this problem with all Desire ROM's I have tried and haven't been able to find a solution yet, however others have expressed that they have not had this problem so I am starting this thread to see if we can work this out.
The main problem that I and others have been having with Desire ROMs (2.1 and beyond) is that sending and receiving pictures does not work right. If it does work at all, the pictures you receive are thumbnail size.
Now I have read on these forums that the ultimate cause of this is that when your cell service pings your phone when you try to send a message, it reads what model the phone is and adjusts the size of the picture accordingly. In our case, it is not able to read that our phone is actually the nexus because of the desire ROM running on it. It would seem to be just something that one would have to deal with when running a Desire ROM on Nexus. HOWEVER, some say that it is working flawlessly on theirs.
Now this seems to be only for T-Mobile U.S. users so I would like those who are on this service and do/or do not have this problem to chime in and let's see if we can get this issue solved. Apparently, since some T-Mobile US users running Desire ROMs say that their MMS are working flawlessly, there is some way around this problem.
Let's start with this, who here has a Desire ROM running on their Nexus with a T-mobile US service and has MMS working flawlessly?

I believe the problem with receiving is the mms user agent. Its set to something the t mobile doesn't recognize. i don't currently have a desire rom on my nexus. I did notice the problem when i tried 1. It can be changed in config file inside stock mms.apk with a hex editor. Not sure about the desire rom mms.

What are nexus owners supposed to do about the defective mms?

This is the stupidest thing ever I see tons of threads about mms problems but no absolute solutions which is what we all deserve as android supporters, i can sometimes send and recieve mms, except most of the time i cant. Is this google? HTC? Tmobile? Its a huge problem that need to be addressed. Its serious its not about poor speakers or choppy ui or a slow app drawer. This is a very basic functions of the cheapest of phones whoever is at fault doesnt apparently care so what can i do? im so tired and embarrassed with it!! who do i complain to? it didnt work consistently on my g1 either so what the f*** gives????
yes its really really really really stupid. My nexus doesnt like to send mms and I called tmobile about my wifes piece of **** mytouch slide having generic network failures with receiving and sending mms...she filled out a ticket and said they would keep me posted about the problem.
And i agree its completely embarrassing this is one of the relatively few phones out there you brag about, but its tough to brag when the mms doesnt even work, not even to mention the crappy speaker, choppy ui, jacked resolution, invisible screen when the sun is out, etc...i love this phone one minute and the next i want to stick it down my disposal with the rest of my leftovers.
let me know if you find out who to light the fire under im happy to do whatever i can i just want mms to work...
Have you tried Handcent? I don't think I've had too many issues with mms using that.
i can't say I've ever had a problem sending or receiving MMS on AT&T with the N1 (not 1 failure yet). If you are both running stock roms perhaps it's a T-Mobile issue.
Reading the 2 posts above it doesn't appear to be confined to the N1 and both of you guys are on T-Mobile. It may take some prodding to the appropriate people to take a look but I'd start there.
I've been sending MMS since Day 1. What type of problems are you having? Maybe too large a file?

It shouldn't be due to a large file.
When I take a photo, for instance, it's at full-resolution.
When I attach it to a SMS, it says it's too large, and it is Compressing.
Does it NOT do that for you OP?
Mms always worked for me.
But i m in France.
As android supports mms i would say its your network..
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
i dont know about OP but when i send to my wife's slide, it either doesnt arrive or comes the next day. and i just cant send to any type of iphone, but i think i had that problem with my old mt3g and g1. When i send to my friends nexus ones, sometimes they get them, usually they dont. And ive tried every method i can think of i cant send when adding attachment, "sharing" from the gallery, or attaching and then taking a picture. Im on tmobile, phones stock.
Very glad to hear others arent having this, i dont know i dont want two messaging apps on my phone, maybe im OCD but i just wish it worked how it is. Actually, when i send to the slide its the slide that says it cant download the pic so maybe its the slide part of the time (still android of course).
I cant pinpoint the circumstances under which the problem occurs so its pretty frustrating, maybe the randomness points to carrier issue? TMobile is super cheap so that wouldnt surprise me, but thats a whole different thread.... But since others dont have any problems maybe ill try my spare nexus for a few days and see if its just my phone.
It must be a t-mobile thing, cause I send tons of mms everyday on my ATT nexus one for 4 months now, not a single issue for me..
OP, you might just need to set up your APNs correctly. MMS was a bit wonky on my n1 until I followed a guide. A search under mms apn should show the thread.
Indeed, not a single problem once I've set up APNs. But I'm not from US, thus not using T-Mobile.

AT&T S3 Mini on Straight Talk Help

Hello everyone! I am new to these forums but I wanted to post because I have tried every single setting known to google it seems to get my phone working since going over from ATT to ATT Straight Talk. I have the S3 Mini running 4.2.2
The problem is that I can not send Picture Messages or MMS or receive them! I am getting 4G and the internet works great! I can make and send calls just fine, I can send regular texts with no pictures and receive them just great no issues. I just can not find out how to get the picture messaging going. I thought ok I can at least come to the largest forums on the planet for Android and see if I can talk with someone who has the same phone on the same network and get this thing working. I am willing to try any setting, I have been through what I know as ever single APN and nothing gets the pictures to work. Once more thanks so much and I hope that someone out there can offer me some help on this.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Help! Anyone else having MMS send problems with GPE or GPE converted phones?

I can usually troubleshoot problems I have with my phone, but this one is just crazy.
I'm going a little nuts here, I have an AT&T HTC One that I converted to a GPE phone, and for some reason, half of the photos I try to send via MMS appear on the other end with this message and no photo: one or more of the message components have been deleted by mms adaptation. either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your handset.
This usually only happens if the photo is large, but doesn't happen if I use the stock messaging app. I'm currently using hangouts, but has been reproduced on textra. I've swapped the Sim with my father's stock sense HTC one (4.2.2), and the photos send fine.
I literally have no idea what the problem is, or how to fix it, I've screwed around with APN settings, uninstalled and reinstalled hangouts. I'm at wits end, and my only guess is that there is something at the OS level that is problematic, something weird about hangouts on the GPE phone, or something on AT$T's end that doesn't like my phone being a GPE variant (also, the APN settings on the GPE phone didn't have the option for MMS profiles? The sense one did, and was set to WAP 2.0, maybe this is the problem?)
Any help or insight would be appreciated. If you are on a GPE HTC One or a converted to GPE HTC One and would like to help me out, try sending this image via MMS to another person, and tell me if it was successful and what carrier you're on (I'm on AT&T):

I just tried using a different GPE rom, and that didn't work either. I'm about to try a Sense rom and see what happens.
Thanks in advance!
If your using google hangouts for your SMS / MMS that wont work.
Im pretty sure hangouts does not support MMS at this time. I tried it on my nexus 5 and both messages came in blank to the other party. I had to email them the pics.

Need help with MMS

Hello all,
I have been happily using my Moto X for many months now without any issues. I have a Verizon Dev Edition which is unlocked/rooted with TWRP installed. The only mods are a customer boot logo and animation. I have super SU installed and ADBlock. Otherwise its the stock current OTA rom.
Just yesterday I have developed a new problem. When I am connected to Wifi, I cannot send MMS messages (which is mostly pictures texts and group texts) out. I can however receive them in. When I disconnect from the Wifi (but leaving the Wifi enabled), I can then send MMS messages. I am using the stock Messaging app. I have also tried Hangouts, which has the same problem.
I have been on the internet reading through forums with people that has the same "type" of problems across different devices and networks. So far nothing I have read has fixed my issues. My APN looks to be set up correctly, but even if it wasn't, there is no ability to add/edit anything.
I just called and troubleshooted with Verizon. After numerous different things they finally sent a "network refresh" to the device. Not even this has worked. Their final solution is to do a factory reset on the device. Before I do this I was hoping someone here might know what I could try before I take the plunge.
Please help! Thanks!
Welp. I disabled Adblock Plus and it works again!

I and other people have been suffereing from the same problem, no one has found a fix. there are a few forums and someone suggested using RSD Lite to flash your phone and that wil fix it but I'm not messing with that.
I just refunded my phone. You can post about it on google plus, the motorola engineers are very responsive and way more helpful than customer service!

Problems sending MMS's on any custom rom

hey guys,
is anyone else having problems sending and recieving MMS's on custom roms?
i have tried the latest: Cyanogenmod, TeamRadium, XenonHD, Ivans rom and probably one other one, along with at least two different kernals. Every single one exhibits the same problem. the very very first MMS you send or recieve is sent or downloaded fine. After that MMS's cannot be sent or downloaded, it just says "recieving" or "sending" forever.
The MIUI 7.0.5.0 rom works fine, can send or recieve as many as i want, but personally its a garbage rom, especially compared to the brilliant roms some people bring out on here.
if when on a custom rom, i do a factory reset in CWM, i can send or recieve one MMS, then it stops working again. This happens regardless of whether i wait a day to send it and if i have had my data on all day.
Ive done all the obvious. Check APN/type in my own and reset. Make sure wifi is off and data is on. tried 2G instead of 3G. Tried a new sim card. tried my sim in a friends mobile (works fine).
I had the same problem, I tried everything, I even had 3G problems (impossible to load something on Google Drive or YouTube, meanwhile all the websites I went on loaded perfectly and fast), so I came back to sMiui. That's sad but that's the only way I think, thanks to Xiaomi's bugged sources
By chance, are you French and having Free Mobile?
