Hi all,
I've so far stayed away from flashing through ODIN,
but I'm looking into it now and have a quick question.
I understand that the .pit files handle the partitioning of the internal SD (right?),
but what's the difference between the various versions of the .pit files?
s1_odin_20100512.pit
s1_odin_20100513.pit
s1_odin_20100803.pit
Cheers!
anyone?
/10char
I read somewhere (on xda dev) that the difference between them is that they are for different partition sizes.

That's what I understand as well.
Most of the leaked firmware is running on 512 PIT so leave the others alone for now.
As far as I know .pit files are only used to tell Odin which file names to program to which "partition".
Even if separate images are used, Odin will treat them as a single image.
For example .pit file tells Odin to program modem.bin file to MODEM "partition", zImage to KERNEL "partition", etc.
If you use separate images (3-pack, CODE, MODEM, CSC), you can for example put CSC to CODE, MODEM to CSC and vice versa. Nothing odd will happen as long as you donĀ“t tamper with the file names inside the tarballs.
OK, cheers
Can someone tell me if the 512.pit file is generic?
Willl the one that has been used on the Galaxy S 1900 work with the Nexus S GT-I9020.
The .pit file I have is named: s1_odin_20100512.pit
This Is very important as it may help a couple hundred people restore there IMEI numbers and un-bricking them.
Thanks in advance
If you go to samfirware.com you will see which goes with which firmware, 512 is just the most common, dont risk it...check!

There's a post about .pit files right here on xda. It's even on i9000 android developpement. I think it will help you sort this out.

+1 a quick use of the much ignored search function would have revealed a wealth of knowledge on this subject. In fact a whole thread dedicated to it, with many more definitive answers, other those posed in this thread.
Used search and be informed.

Next time search. This isn't a development thread.
As stated 512 is the pit to use in nearly every case.

Seems to me in far less space you could have provided the link and the key terms you used in search to find it. That would have been informative, productive and helpful. Something to think about

Updated: Thought I'd mention I'm on Bell (Canada) i9000m.
After upgrading my Slacker Radio App (not sure if it's related or not) my SGS restarted and went into a boot loop.
I would like to wipe out my phone (kernel and rom) and start off fresh.
I am able to enter download mode but don't know where to go from here.
Please help (even a link to a thread w/ instructions would be greatly appreciated).
Have you tried just going into recovery (vol up + power + home) and doing a factory reset?
Here u r mate, take ur time,(better be safe than sorry) put ur question here & ill try to help

I have voodoo installed and obviously I can not disable it (due to boot loop).
Can I still flash a stock rom/kernel?

alright buddy, look. I appreciate any help you may or may not provide to me at this given moment. but what you are doing, is essentially spamming. I'm asking a question on THIS thread, in relation to my problem. I have searched these forums AS WELL AS the internet itself. And granted, I might have overlooked something. But as a community, thats what these forums do. their purpose is to help those who may have overlooked something or perhaps the solution is yet to exist.
By telling me to search, is more counterproductive than for me to post something and not get a reply.
like I said, I appreciate the help, if any, but its best to be a gent about this sort of thing. no one likes a douche bag on the forums.
EDIT:: Those links were completely useless. they're just links from the top of the SGS general page. I'm not an idiot; I've seen and read these threads before. CLEARLY they were of no help. why else why I be here? -___-

Cos you are to f8888 lazy to search or read the FAQS matey .
thousands posting just like you to lazy to search or learn .
Even to ignorant to read the post i sent that would have enabled you to flash a stock rom and clear your problem .
If it good enough for other users then it should be good enough for somebody that does not understand the basics as they are the basics .

*facepalm* the reason your posts did NOT help, is simply because I have already tried those things. And you u bother searching long enough, you will see these "solutions" have bee posted before. except in more detail. I have searched. Heck Ive spent hours and even days on this problem alone. Not only have I searched, but ive managed to read 95% of all forums in full. and no one seems to have a SOLID solution. WHICH is why I've succumb to asking the question myself.
yes. I have flashed various of pit files with various combos of boot-loaders and roms AS required by some users. I have even done some steps individually AS required by some users. The FARTHEST I've gotten with ANY of these procedures was reaching the custom recovery menu. yet once i got that far, tried doing a factory reset and flashing a ROM, it told me some file was missing. Then I was back to square one.
thanks. but no thanks, JJE. ur "help" seems to relate more to typical "n00b bashing" rather than any sort of help at all.

I am unable to determine which Firmware I should use.
SamFirmWare has Firmware for the following regions:
- Europe.
- Asia.
- Turkish.
- Arabic.
- America / Australia.
- Provider.
I am in Canada - should I use America or Provider?
I was going to ask this question in development thread but due to being new here wasn't allowed.
There is a *.pit file with this new firmware N7000 XXLA1. Is there no need to use it when flashing with pc odin (pda=code, phone=modem, csc=multicsc).?
if you had posted in the dev section your post would have been moved as you are asking a question not developing for the note
have you looked thru the various la1 threads in the dev section?

No, you dont need to select pit file
+1 (Richy99)
You could've asked this question (if you had more than 10 posts) in the Dev section under the XXKLA1 thread, but you can't create a new thread for it. Just to be clear
Cheers guys..running the new firmware. Yes i read the posts about the new firmware in the dev( thanks dr.). As i only looked at kl7 and kl8 before which didnt have a pit file i was curious what difference it would make if i included it(also read up on pit files in this forum - not that im much more clued up about them now tho). Post #5 - i will reach 10 soon. Thanks

Pit file is partition index table file, only needed when you have to select're partition'. And this shudn't b select unless special instruction provided, lots of device bricked by this.
ok i understand! Thanks doc!
I still have to post here as i do not have 10 posts yet.
I just flashed my galaxy note to KK9 and rooted it successfully.
installed mobile odin and tried flashing it with LA1 (open file, code...)
phone rebooted and did a few things and the this happened:
in small green writing ('logo_q1.jpg' draw failed) - can't start the phone or anything - it just returns to this.
I can get back into download mode and i assume i can reflash with a firmware
Please can you help?! What went wrong

I've tried that site guy's, they really are there, the files, but I have no income to create an account to get the files. Thank's for looking!. I'm wondering if any one has it on a phone and could get an adb backup created for us here to try. This site http://www.downloads.bombaymobiles.in/index.php?dir=Samsung%20Flash%20files/I897/ has alot of files for diffirent phones, i'm directing you to the i897 files and JE5 is in there if you want an idea what its like, But again looking for JE4, i've read that it's less buggy and I just really want to use it and mess around with it.

This should be in Q&A, not the dev section. If you read the stickied threads you will find what you are looking for. So to sum this up you have violated two rules, posting a question thread in the dev section and not searching and reading threads that will answer your question.
