Connect XDA IIi to vista via serial - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Hi guys,
I bought a XDA IIi second hand to use with my telescope via a program called Astromist. So i bought a USB to RS232 converter and a XDAIIi serial cable, downloaded WMDC but i cant get them to connect.
I've also tried on my XP laptop with activesync 4.5 but no different. In device manager the COM4 is available and ive made sure that the baud rate is 115200 as the XDA is. Data bits 8 parity none stop bits 1 flow control none.
Ive tried multiple configurations to no avail. The cable needs to be serial as there is a serial port on the decoder circuit on the telescope.
HELP???GUYS???

I read on WMDC a USB connection is required on first use. Can anyone point me to the USB driver?

need help - ActiveSync keeps all my ports busy

Hey,
recently I am getting more and more pissed off, thanks to ActiveSync 4.2.
The situation is following:
I own Qtek 8500 (=ActiveSync)
and a Palm (=Hotsync)
I have MSI Star Key v2.0
Few months ago, before I got my Qtek, I used to hotsync via Bluetooth. Everything worked fine (hotsync settings+widcomm settings). After I installed ActiveSync, everything got messed up - the port (COM 3) which was before used by Hotsync, was now taken by ActiveSync. OK, no problem. So I created a new port in Widcomm on my PC (I tried anything from COM4 to COM14) and changed the settings in my Hotsync to the same port.
So everything should work fine - ActiveSync will use it's COM3 port and Hotsync will use it's new COM port.
But, whenever I try to hotsync, my PALM gives me error, that the port is being occupied by another application.
My Siemens S55 phone has the same problem. So I have to sync via the damn cable, because ActiveSync is fuc*in occupying all the ports. Any device which is using the virtual com port, cannot connect and gives me similar error.
what I tried:
1) change the port settings in ActiveSync (lets say COM5) and create new port in Widcomm (also COM5) on my PC > NO change
2) change the port settings in Hotsync (lets say COM 8) and create new port in Widcomm (also COM8) on my PC > NO change
3) install all kinds AS versions (4.0 to 4.5)
When I uninstall ActiveSync from my PC or just kill the process, everything is fine, I can hotsync via BT on the COM8 port. With just HS installed, I can run 6 devices on different com ports (I don't have more than 6 LOL). After I run ActiveSync on COM5, palm tells me that the port is busy (COM8!!!!) and also all other 5 devices tells me that their ports are busy... Gives no sense to me.
I tried few forums on the net, but it seems that nobody has the same problem as I do, aka nobody is using a Palm and a WM device aka nobody is using more devices using the virtual com port...
Now lets just hope, somebody from here can help me...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539
just delete the old ports
Thanks, but that's what I did even before. The problem is, that activesync keeps it busy. So this is not the solution, unfortunately.. T_T

Configuring the USB as a serial port.

Hi,
I'm trying to run an app on the Kaiser phone, but unfortunately it does not recognize phones unless they are configured as serial devices. Is there a way to configure the USB port on the Kaiser as a serial communication port? I tried punching in ##3424# but was unsuccessful. I also could not find a flag in the registry that allowed use of USB as a serial bus. Does any of you have the drivers that allows mapping the USB as a serial port in my computer?
Thank you,
SJ
Last time i checked
USB!=Serial
If you are trying to use the phone as a serial modem, then there are existing drivers for the HTC Modem.
Got it to connect as a serial modem
Hi,
I made some progress in this front. I got my Vista computer to recognize my phone as a HTC USB modem.
But when I start the wModem using Menu > Start and then on Vista goto Start > Connect to > HTC USB Modem it drops the WModem connection on the Kaiser. The Wmodem application closes and reappears after Vista has determined it is unable to connect to the modem.
Has anyone else seen this problem.
Thanks,
Shree
format C: and install XP should do the trick
usb cant emulate old serial == rs232 that few new pc's even have anymore
a usb to rs232 adaptor is required but those require the device using them
being able to be usb host and only flame and Athena support that

ActiveSync via Bluetooth - No ActiveSync Port

* Just so I don't get flamed...I HAVE searched the forums AND google AND have tried what they recommend...it just still doesn't seem to work.
I was using a D-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter (until I broke it). I remember at one point in time that I WAS ABLE to run an ActiveSync session via Bluetooth. I have just purchased a Kensington MINI USB adapter (only sticks out about 1/4" so maybe this one won't break.)
I have rePaired my computer with the Tilt, created a port (com5) on my computer, set ActiveSync to use Com5. But when I try to issue a Bluetooth Activesync...it says that it cannot connect beause it's not a ActiveSync Port. Checking the available services shown on the Tilt reported by the PC...shows only Serial Port. I have tried everything I can...remove the Com Ports, replace the com ports, different com ports, remove all pairings, etc. Still cannot get the Tilt to see the ActiveSync service.
I CAN sync via cable...but I just want to cut the cords when traveling. (The less the better.)
I found several google answers that are relevant.
However, depending on the version you use I reccomend you start in Activesync Help. Launch A/S, go to help menu, select "connecting a mobile device to pc", then select "connect to activesync using bluetooth".

i use a BT Dongle to sync with Activesync and was having that same problem. To correct this, i deleted the current sync relationship on both the PC and the PPC. i also deleted the BT Pairing on both the PC and PPC as well. Once that was all done, i repaired the PPC with the PC and it found the Activesync Port. and it works beautifully both via BT and USB Cable.
I hope this helps.

I know that it's probably too late to post this, but I had the same problem just now. What I did is I removed all other USB cables that are connected to my computer and tried to pair again. And viola, I see my activesync.
I'm in the same situation
My mini usb port on the phone charges, but it doesn't connect to ActiveSync. So I went and bought a bluetooth dongle for my laptop & desktop. On my desktop I allowed the OS (WinXP) to install it's drivers. I followed the instructions on the Activesync help and it worked beautifully. On my laptop on the other hand it didn't first with xp driver and then with the drivers included with the dongle I just couldn't set a com port that Activesync could use (it has to be numbered below 20 and all I get is 24 and beyond). To make matters worse the included drivers tend to hang my laptop so no joy.
This dongle's Interlink NANO Bluetooth VP6494 & the drivers are by Toshiba.
Any ideas??!!
This is how I fixed it for me
First I uninstalled the Toshiba BT drivers that came with my dongle. Then I erased the laptop pairing in my kaiser. Then I uninstalled a couple of programs (Motorola phone tools, Samsung Studio & some other for a Sony Ericson) from my laptop. After that I plug the dongle back in, allowed XP to install it's drivers.
After that I was able configure a COM port with a number less than 20 & have been able to sync thru Bluetooth since.
Hope it helps.

Struggling to use BT with Activsync on wm6.1

Using Belkin BT adapter and Kasier branded Wm6 ROM worked fine, no issues (XP Pro SP3)
Since doing the 6.1 HTC branded ROM, the phone has been great but I cannot get the ActivSync working on BT! Cable is fine, when I select the PC from the Kasier it does not offer Activsync as a service, only Serial and Network I think.
Really want to get this going again, any ideas?
james
If you see "serial" it means that the probem is on the PC side, and ActiveSync is not set to use the PC's incoming serial port.
When this is correct, you won't see serial naymore but will have activesync instead.
In your BT settings on the PC, check what COM port is assigned to your serial profile. Choose that COM port in AS and it should work.
Afraid i have tried that using COM3 and COM5, they are listed as BT com ports and have set one of them within the BT Config and then AS.
I noticed when I pair the devices, the phone always shows an error like wrong code, then asks again and accepts code.
It does seem to be the pc, i tried a network which has toshiba BT stack and it asked for the pin to confirm pairing which my main pc does not. it seems to kick the pda off. just downloading later drivers and reinstalling it. Should I be using the Belkin stack?

bluesoleil serial port problem

hey everybody,I'm wondering to connect my X1 to activesync with an external BT(for exploring my files in memory stick and using internet on my device),But there is a problem....
I did these steps to connect my device:
Turn on BT on PC and X1>pair>right click on "my device" icon in Bluesoleil and select properties>in services tab select add serial port and I added Serial port 5(because serial ports 3 & 4 are enabled in Bluesoleil meanwhile I can't select these ports in X1i because of errors)so I forced to add this port that Bluesoleil+X1i+Activesync that supp. it...then I checked mark serial port 5 in Bluesoleil>X1i>properties>Bluetooth serial port(com5) and then I changed winXP activesync & WM activesync com port to serial port 5 and try to connect but no results.....
I know I confused u because of my sentences but I did my best
