[Q] Data connection problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know why certian application, which use data connection (3G) works properly. Examples: Opera Mini, FB Application, Fancy Widget...
while some do not work. Examples: Daily Briefing, Skyfire, Default Internet application. I get: Page can not be displayed or Connetion Error.
It is interesting that if I am using WiFi, all application works without problems.
I had many different ROMs and it is always the same.

i don't think it's an application error
rather an issue with the APN settings
what are the APN settings for your cell phone network operator?
did you configure it in Settings?

Of course I did. I am using setting from my mobile provider.
It looks like some ports are blocked because when I go into Internet app. and go to google.com I can see that there is some data transfering because the icon of 3g is red and green, also there is the green progress bar in Internet app. loading. However, after 10 seconds of doing this I get: Page is unavailable.
Completely the same in SkyFire.
On the other hand, with Opera Mini it works as it should. The page is loaded correctly.

yes, i've heard reports from other people with similar issues with some cell phone providers
try with opera mini, opera mini works differently, you might be able to bypass the blocks with opera mini

Something tells me you installed froyo and now back to eclair.

I was just about to post a new thread but this one had the same title.
Does anyone else have a data connection problem with JPK? It says my data connection is on but it wont let me use it.
This problem is very annoying and i would appreciate if someone could help me solve it.

tilt/tytn II internet stops working

the internet stops working on my at&t tilt. I can't go to websites or download pic messages. I can do a soft restart and it works again for a while then stops again. anyone else have this happen? kinda hoping an upgrade to wm6.1 will help but waiting for the at&t ROM.
ideas to fix this?
i sometimes have that issue. to fix it i just go to comm manger and change it to airplane mode and back to phone. then it will reconnect to the 3g network and the internet comes back. its better then doing a soft reset
Try using ClearTemp
I have the same problem when I use T-Mobile's 5.99 T-Zones plan. I usually just use cleartemp and it clears it right up.
i am having the same problem. my internet data just stop working all together. my Internet explorer, opera 8 and 9 all stop working with atnt data plan. Opera mini still work under the date network. wifi is ok. I try reseting and also reflashing new roms but still now luck. need help.
I have the same issue. I'll open IE and type in an address and it loads a white screen and says done. Haven't found a fix yet.
im using the tmobile 5.99 plan too.
i had a problem one time when the phone magically wiped out the proxy settings... so i was unable to use the web for quite a while until i figured out the proxy settings were wiped out blank.
i dunno know how that happened but it did.

[Q] Marketplace and gmail app not working on mobile network

Well dear friends,
I have rather strange problem. My marketplace (keeps getting connection timed out error) and gmail (would not sync) app stoped working on my mobile network while browsers and any other app work fine. What's strange is when I connect my phone to WiFi everything works normal, including gmail and marketplace.
Tried to reinstall my GingerDX, didn't work.
This sometimes happens to me when I'm in an area of weak 3G coverage. Switching to 2G only works for me in those cases...
Thank you for your answer, but that didn't do the trick for me. Btw, it keeps giving me headache regardless of 3g signal strenght.
Restoring stock rom didn't work. Please help
Using different APN gives me different results. When I use gprswap APN , the early mentioned problem occurs, on the other hand when gprsinternet APN is used marketplace and gmail work, but browser doesn't.

You should ask your service provider which is the correct APN for you....

Help! Cannot connect to 3 UK - thinks I am tethered!!!

Hi folks,
Hope someone can help, I have just gone from a fixed internet usage to unlimited 'all you can eat' data with the Three network. Since doing this, I cannot connect to the 3G network, I get the message, " Are you using your phone as a modem or personal hotspot"
So basically, it thinks my phone is tethered (which is not allowed on the all-you-can-eat' data plan. The thing is, my phone is NOT tethered.
I have called 3, but it may take up to 48 hours to get this sorted out, and I need the phone for navigation on Friday.
Any ideas or suggestions greatly accepted.
Got exactly the same problem.
Using a Dolphin browser with my Galaxy SII in 3uk.
What they answered to you after you call?
still waiting for reply. have you tried standard browser? if dolphin is like opera, it uses a proxy server to compress data etc, so i need to use the stock browser to get real errors.
They must have done something as I am using 3g network OK this morning, will wait for their call
Sent using TCP/IP
I found what causing that, dont know why.
Its of course doplhin browser. when im using Opera (big one, didnt tried mini) i can use my internet without probs.
Everytime i used dolphin this tethering thing comes on and no other application was not able to connect to internet at all.
Had to switch phone off, wait about 10 minutes and internet was on again.
Seems dolphin because this proxy thing or something else raise this barrier on 3.
Hope it helps.
Regards
Thanks guys, can confirm that its the dolphin browser

[Q] Cannot use Skype on Mobile Data

Hello there
I have tried different versions of Skype, different ROMs and even different radios but it's always the same thing, it will not let me log on Skype except when I am on Wi-Fi which is extremely annoying because I have an unlimited Mobile Data plan that's actually faster than my Wi-Fi connection which also isn't always available for me.
I know my connection is working fine because I can use Chrome, IM+, WhatsApp and a lot of other applications, it's only Skype that asks me to "Check network settings" while trying to connect. Does anyone know why that is happening?
I researched A LOT and found that that's a common problem but there's no one fix. Some people clear cache and data then reboot and everything works fine, but that doesn't do it for me. I like Skype and it's honestly better than using IM+ and such.
This is the error message:
"You cannot be signed in at this time. Please check your mobile network settings and try again." and then I get two options on the bottom "Network Settings" and "OK".
Thanks for your time.
Maybe your carrier blocks it.

[Q] Strange data issue

Hi
A few days ago I started experiencing a strange issue that I just can't resolve.
Certain apps and accounts, i.e. Facebook, email, playstore, Google, Flip board etc. simply will not load/refresh/sync over mobile network. However, I can still browse the Internet using various apps (chrome, stock browser). With Spotify, I can stream music but am unable to download. There is no issue with the data connection as I am getting 'H' or '3g' and showing decent stats on Speed test. I have no issues at all over Wifi - everything works perfectly.
It's as if something is preventing apps from syncing/refreshing over the network but not affecting Internet access.
I have an unbranded device with a sim only Talk Talk deal.
Kitkat 4.2.2
4.12.401.11
I'm going to do a hard reset next but wondered if there was another solution.
Any ideas?

At work we had a phone that did not want to sync email on 3G. (Perhals other apps, we did not check.)
It turned out his phone was roaming on 3G, and the email client was set not to push mail when roaming.
I think the guy had bad signal on its own network on this location and so the phone was roaming.
He could still use his browser and many other apps without any problems.
Maybe it has nothing to do with your problem but I thought I should post it.
Because it sure has many things in common, also in this example on WIFI everything would work fine.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thanks for that, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a roaming issue.
I've just factory reset the device, completely wiped everything. Tries to log into Facebook and the same thing happened. Switches to WiFi and it worked straight away.
I tried forcing the mobile data to only use WCDMA. This actually seemed to resolve the problem temporarily and I was able to update Facebook however it soon reverted to how it was and I was unable to sync email, update Facebook or download on Spotify unless over WiFi.
I'm wondering if it's the Sim card or possibly a problem with the phone but I'm struggling to understand (albeit with limited knowledge) how this strange behaviour could be hardware related...
