[Q] X10 Interface on Galaxy - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,i have a question: it's possible to port the Xperia X10 interface on galaxy s?
Thanks!!!!

That would probably be troublesome, especially since the X10 still runs only Android 1.6

Ok, but when we will be upgrading to Eclair?

The X10 will be getting Eclair at the end of this year - and by that time, we SGS owners will be rocking Froyo! SE are so behind the curve, it's almost a running joke now.

Not only behind the curve, but:
1) The X10 started shipping with 1.6. However, on the date it started shipping, Google had already shipped Android 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1.
2) Since they started shipping, Android 2.2 was also released.
It's absolutely insane, but expected. From experience with SE's previous phones, SE are known for differentiating their mobiles using software (their walkman phones were EXACTLY the same hardware as their cheaper phones, with a walkman application and a few tweaks), so it will be interesting to see if they continue to screw X10 customers in a similar fashion.
Anyway, I think by the time they get 2.1, we might even possibly have gingerbread

Ok thanks!!!!

I reckon some will br crazy enough to do it.
Give it some time

The x10 is still on 1.6 as stated before. Porting it to Eclair or FroYo will be challanging probably. Give iy some time something might come up eventually...

[Q] Will Froyo releases be leaked ?

Why are samsung leaking these to test, The FroYo FW must be into a good stage of development by now, I am unsure why we are 'beta testing' this and hoping for FroYo to be released working well straight off the bat,
Do you guys think we will get FroYo releases before it is officially released? I mean all these firmwares we are testing will be made into one that gets officially released.
-- mod-edit: --
Please think before you post a thread, the title generated quite a few reports !

Of course we will get a leaked release.

I nearly fell from chair.
IF they would release thier Froyo as beta to this forum - they could get beta feedback by reading about bugs posted by us AND does not have to deal with the consequences we know how to reflash - "normal" users dont.
So Win Win for both.
Yeah, you really should have titled the thread as a question. As worded, it makes folks think it's actually happened.

I fired up a google search and i found a lot of hits about a froyo alpha on a galaxy spica. Maybe some things got mixed up.
Yep, can't find anything about Froyo alphas or leaks for the Galaxy S, just for some of the older Galaxy phones.
I think we Android owners are a fairly impatient bunch.
In the time it's taken for the iPhone to go from 3.0 to 4.0, Android has had:
- 1.6 Donut
- 2.0 / 2.1 Eclair
- 2.2 Froyo
The phone manufacturers must have a heart attack every time a new version of Android is released and their handset owners immediately begin screaming for it...
Luckily the Galaxy S is the flagship of Samsung which they intend to sell 10 million of, so chances are we'll be seeing good support and the stream of beta firmwares shows they're not sitting still.
Froyo has been confirmed for August in Korea, and most likely September in international markets.
We've got to be patient and remember the Nexus One is still the ONLY Android phone that has received an official Froyo update as of yet. Even the Desire, EVO 4G, Droid, Incredible and Droid X are still on the waiting list.
From the sounds of it August-October will be the time the various handset manufacturers will be rolling out their Froyo updates.

Well they don't do themselves any favours by launching a new phone every couple of weeks and insisting on putting their own UI on top of Android.
Looking further afield: anyone think that Samsung will put Gingerbread on this baby?

Possibly but I think I have to go with the sceptic masses here that say samsung support isn't good in longterm and so I guess they won't do that. Unless ofc gingerbread is going to bring the massive UI update that vanilla android so desperately needs for usablity and samsung decides that touchwiy isnt necessary anymore.

There are developers assigned to port CyanogenMod to the Vibrant (T-Mobile US version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729364
Unfortunately, looking at Wes Garner's Twitter, he seems rather more keen on the Slide than the Vibrant:
I like the slide better
@wesgarner so does that mean your gonna keep developing for the slide?
@XJRodzx probably more for it than the vibrant

So don't know how that's necessarily going to work out. The intention is there, though, anyway - hope it's still in progress!
I have doubts with Gingerbread...from what we know so far, it's supposed to have a (MUCH NEEDED!) UI overhaul based around the Gallery's sexy look.
If a phone is launched with a certain interface, chances are the manufacturer probably wouldn't be keen on releasing an update that changes everything because of the issue with it being different to what the buyer paid for. Basically, it changes the product, and the picture on the box is no longer what you've bought. It's all well and good with something like Eclair to Froyo since it's largely just performance improvements and some new features rather than an overhaul.
If anything, I think Samsung would be more likely to release a new version of the Galaxy S at Gingerbread's launch. Much like it's doubtful the HTC Desire / Evo 4G / Incredible will get Gingerbread updates. Instead, HTC will probably have new devices ready for the new interface.
The Nexus One is the only current device I believe has a chance of Gingerbread, mainly because it's the 'official' Google phone and has been promoted and sold as a developer phone. They'll be wanting some nice apps ready for Gingerbread when it launches which will obviously need to be in development before Gingerbread-equipped phones launch.

Get a HTC HD2. Mother of all phones. Looks like anything can run on it. They recently got debian to run on it. And it should cost about 20,000 here.

I wouldn't. Its not the greatest phone out there right now... I would wait for a dual core android phone from HTC or the iphone 5 (if there even is one, last one was summer release so it might be then as well this year)
I also wouldn't get the HD2 because its not the top-of-the-line phone and dualcore processor phones should be much better, and if they are nvidia dual core tegra 2 processors, they have tegra zone too, so more gaming possibilities and enhancements there.
Although many people do not like the Atrix, it does have 1 gb of ddr2 ram (not certain, but read somewhere) and a dualcore nvidia tegra 2 processor (i think both the cores equal to 1ghz)
+ I think nvidia said they expected quad core processors for mobile devices by this summer ( I THINK! not sure, saw somewehre on engadget I THINK!)
Lastly, the EVO 3D looks cool too, and I would wait for that if I had the money, and not stuck on a contract. Evo3d video: http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/htc-evo-3d-first-hands-on/
YAY official update!
So...After all my moaning and crying about the locked bootloader I go and get an ATRIX.......
Say what you will about Motorola, they make some awesome hardware. The Atrix a such a amazing phone. After freezing down all the Blur app it is the best phone i've ever used.
On another note: HTC is starting to lock down their phones (htc thunderbolt), I hope this isn't going to be true with all manufactures.

Yep, sometime around q3; which if years of experience with se are anything to go by, means by the end of the year. By then, the x10 will be nearing the end of its useful life - given its limited memory etc. There are much better options out there.

[Q] HTC HD7 or Xperia X10

Hi there, xda people!
I need some help with my decision. I'm looking for a smartphone with a big screen, Wi-Fi, 3G, good camera and a nice design. both of them are ok for my needs and the price doesn't matter. So wonder if you guys, the experts can tell me what the benefits of WP7 are and those of Android. And also: Xperia X10 in Black or in White
What also matters is the compatibility with a Mac and if the device is upgradeable easily and without hacking it.
in reply..
well i have an hd7. fine ill explain the lag of wp7:
1.no Bluetooth data transfer.
2.Zune integration.(every thing u need to sync to yo phone through that only)
3.no flash(of course we can get it by the next coming MANGO update)
4.very few apps on wp7 marketplace (& costs more).
5.u cant download anything except from marketplace.
6.no support for 3rd party applications, cant change ringtones,no themes( u wanna jailbreak it if so)
7.very poor battery life
best things:
very smooth OS,best touch experience ever.
& the display even
(so for myself hd7 is bad so im in hope of android for it )
as x10 is based on Donut.. better u buy Desire HD (froyo) or Xperia Play(gingerbird) as you are saying no problem about money.
for xperia play check this:
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_play-3608.php
for DHD:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_hd-3468.php
check these and then think of buying..
well good luck
I have owned the X10 before the HD7... and i hated it... first of all it doesnt have true multitouch, it only has dual touch... so only a few system apps pinch to zoom and so on.
Also the X10 now has android 2.1 not 1.6 like mentioned in the post earlier and is about to get 2.3.3 sometime in the next couple of months.
If i had my choice, i would go for the HD7 because of the bigger screen and the OS. I think android is one of the ugliest OS's ever to grace this planet. Everything from scrolling to basic functions sometime take forever (on the X10 anyway). But in the end it is Android and you can customize it to the way you want it.
After having bothi I'm happier with the HD7, you spend hours on Android trying to get it 'just right' (which it never is) but I find that WP7 suits me just fine and I really love the style and mechanics of the OS.
I had the x10 and it wasn't great, it is getting (got, not sure?) Gingerbread now but if your set on Android get the SE Arc or even the Desire HD, the Arc looks and feels better, software is still buggy. The Desire HD has more built in HTC apps, this can be good or bad depending on how you look at it!
Android always felt a but 'childish' to me, I don't know why, WP7 whilel locked down just feels more intuitive.
I'm sure I'll get murdered for saying this but is Mac compatibility is important why just not go for an... iphone...
the X10 is one of the worst Android handsets out there. Sony Erricson have their paws all over it meaning future updates are as and when SE feel like it, as it's SE's version of Android. There was a long period where SE basically said they were never updating it again after 2.1.
I'd recommend the Galaxy S 2 or the HTC Sensation, much, much better devices and not locked down to poor OS's that SE have ruined.
As for which OS i prefer, WP7 all the way. Much smoother and generally much quicker at getting things done.
I'll disagree with the first poster's poor battery life, I can get 2 days worth out of a full charge (but reconditioning the battery, i.e. draining it fully and recharging it is a must).
Also many points he mentioned are across the board for Android and Iphones as well, so not really a great comparison.
My girlfriend owns a X10 device, And Sony Ericsson are one of the worst for their customer support and updates going. (Motorola IMO being the worst, Ex-Milestone User Here)
HTC's Customer support is stunning, You can tell this from them locking their bootloaders on the Evo 3d. Thunderbolt. Sensation and Incredible S. HTC's customers replied in an outroar, and within 2 months they have decided to re-unlock their bootloaders, which proves they love their customers. And not one HTC phone from now on will be locked.
The X10's Are an ok phone, but its let down by the laggy Timescape UI added onto android, I believe in 1 Android Skin, Sense (The best of the skins) or A completely stock build of android. Touchwiz from samsung is ok, but its not quite there.
The locked bootloader is a let down too (Sure theres the kexec method) but its not completely open, so if you fancied a custom build rom, it would be suspectable to reboots etc if you used one. The HD7 has a unlocked bootloader, so when we get an android port, it will be fully custom and will have no reboots
Both have the same processor, but WP7 really takes advantage of the speed, I've used a HTC Desire with this processor on sense Android 2.2 and a HD7, and personally the speed is majorly different on each phone.
But i'm not biased to WP7, i've owned many android phones and I love the OS. Just Sony ericsson android phones are riddled with bugs and not one works just right. But I can't wait to replace my girlfriend's X10, She will be getting a 2nd gen windows phone, Because whatever people say, WP7 has been the nicest suprise of the year for me
I pre-ordered an HTC Sensation some days ago.
The HD7 will be put back into his box until WP7 becomes a more interesting experience.
I also would not step back to an old Android device like X10.
Regards
S

ICS and the I9000

We already have buttons ...Does this mean ICS roms will have four buttons ?
Maybe next time in Q & A section ?
Obviously there will be an option to hide the onscreen buttons.

Way not? Based on what?
Doubt that samsung will release ICS for sgs, we got 2.2 and 2.3, i think thats that for this phone.
Only based on my personal opinion I'm not sure if Samsung has a commercial interest in supporting Sgs 1 when they have the sgs2 now, plus 512mb is maybe too small for ICS ? Yeah I know Nexus S will have it, but without Touch Wizz... I hope I'm wrong .

I have a feeling that it won't come out for the I9000, too.
It will be released for the Nexus S which is quite similar to the I9000 but they won't release it for us.
No doubt we'll see people raging on samsung for not coming out with ICS for I9000, while ignoring that it's unlikely any phone from mid-2010 will get it.
How many raging "never again samsung"s did we see over 2.3, with many pretending HTC is so much better when SGS actually got it before Desire that came out about the same time. Grass is always greener...

To be fair, the phone first release in June 2010, and now over one year later, Samsung still update the phone (JVT just leaked ?), and even if they doesn't support, you can still install many custom ROM or AOSP ROM

Sorry, how can you say that? Your phone doesn't suddenly stop working just because you don't get the latest update of Android. I still have an old Ericsson T68 which hasn't had an update in years but still works
I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that new Android phones will be supported a minimum of 18 months with software upgrades. Although that may not mean anything for our Galaxy S

The Nexus S will most likely have the ICS update. The Galaxy S has similar hardware to the Nexus S, so even if it is not officially released for the Galaxy S, someone will be able to port it.

Time for a new firmware,XXJVU?!..XWJVU is here!

Looking back in time,I remember how Samsung did some fabulous polishing work on Froyo 2.2.1 even after the release of the first GBs.I was glued to the last of the 2.2.1s before migrating to GB.
Between JVP to the leaked JVT,I see polish being added and now that ICS is just around the corner,Samsung must be able to release the full fury of GB---HOPEFULLY!
History has always repeated itself so let's hope for the best!
...so now it is here even though as a provider affair but a more common leak with multi CSC can't be far behind.more polished than XXJVT
Waiting for ICS. I don't think there will be major changes in next release.
i am also waiting for ICS
It's time not for a ROM but for a position from Samsung if Galaxy S will be getting ICS or not. They fooled me very much in buying this thing in the GPS department ( GSMArena also, with the review against Iphone 4 that praised this piece of crap stock software they loaded in this great hardware ). The least they could do is bring ICS to I9000. If they don't do this, then I am really, really sorry but Samsung and Android failed to me and I learned my lesson and no more Samsung or Android devices for me if they continue doing this.
WHY? Samsung has been one of the first manufactures that constantly updates their devices, obviously most of the updates are leaked, but thoos exist. Not like Sony Ericcson wich wasted months to develop GB to their xperia line.
I don't know the case of LG, Motorola, or others. But samsung and HTC are the best option (for me) on android, based on devices and updates.
