This will be my last Milestone post as I'm selling it tomorrow. Was just flashing the latest update for the sake of the new owner. Motorola never again.
who ever said that was same one...???
I dunno, I guess I got the impression from some posts around here that it was identical to the buggy leaked version. I gather it's still buggy, but I won't be the one to find out
it has same kernel as Arabic MS...... that kernel aslo has DSI errors but little..... don no when is moto releasing stable.... Kernel...... ok finally decided to Leave Motorola never again to buy it.... Deciding to but some other May be Xperia..... Arc or Play ... whichever.

Get a HTC HD2. Mother of all phones. Looks like anything can run on it. They recently got debian to run on it. And it should cost about 20,000 here.
I am seriously thinking about getting one.

Don't get X10, pos screen doesn't even have multi touch and only does 65k colours. Locked down worse than milestone. Find a nice HTC or nexus. At least mm has a froyo kernel, x10 is stuck with eclair as it's not getting updated past 2.1. Plus the gpu is crap on snapdragon.

htc desire z is like the milestone ..
[Continuing the Oftopic ]I've been thinking about changing to desire Z for the HW Keyboard. Anyone with any feedback?
I think this TELUS kernel is the same that the old APAC Kernel 2.6.32.9-gafbfc43 (SHOLS_U2_05.26.0)
The new APAC or African kernel is 2.6.32.9-g11068ed (SHOLS_U2_05.27.2)

I wouldn't. Its not the greatest phone out there right now... I would wait for a dual core android phone from HTC or the iphone 5 (if there even is one, last one was summer release so it might be then as well this year)
I also wouldn't get the HD2 because its not the top-of-the-line phone and dualcore processor phones should be much better, and if they are nvidia dual core tegra 2 processors, they have tegra zone too, so more gaming possibilities and enhancements there.
Although many people do not like the Atrix, it does have 1 gb of ddr2 ram (not certain, but read somewhere) and a dualcore nvidia tegra 2 processor (i think both the cores equal to 1ghz)
+ I think nvidia said they expected quad core processors for mobile devices by this summer ( I THINK! not sure, saw somewehre on engadget I THINK!)
Lastly, the EVO 3D looks cool too, and I would wait for that if I had the money, and not stuck on a contract. Evo3d video: http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/htc-evo-3d-first-hands-on/
YAY official update!
So...After all my moaning and crying about the locked bootloader I go and get an ATRIX.......
Say what you will about Motorola, they make some awesome hardware. The Atrix a such a amazing phone. After freezing down all the Blur app it is the best phone i've ever used.
On another note: HTC is starting to lock down their phones (htc thunderbolt), I hope this isn't going to be true with all manufactures.

Yep, sometime around q3; which if years of experience with se are anything to go by, means by the end of the year. By then, the x10 will be nearing the end of its useful life - given its limited memory etc. There are much better options out there.

Hi,i have a question: it's possible to port the Xperia X10 interface on galaxy s?
Thanks!!!!
That would probably be troublesome, especially since the X10 still runs only Android 1.6
Ok, but when we will be upgrading to Eclair?
The X10 will be getting Eclair at the end of this year - and by that time, we SGS owners will be rocking Froyo! SE are so behind the curve, it's almost a running joke now.

Not only behind the curve, but:
1) The X10 started shipping with 1.6. However, on the date it started shipping, Google had already shipped Android 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1.
2) Since they started shipping, Android 2.2 was also released.
It's absolutely insane, but expected. From experience with SE's previous phones, SE are known for differentiating their mobiles using software (their walkman phones were EXACTLY the same hardware as their cheaper phones, with a walkman application and a few tweaks), so it will be interesting to see if they continue to screw X10 customers in a similar fashion.
Anyway, I think by the time they get 2.1, we might even possibly have gingerbread
Ok thanks!!!!
I reckon some will br crazy enough to do it.
Give it some time

Hi guys, I'm gonna get a Motorola Milestone soon. And the main reason is because of the physical keyboard. However I'm still confused about whether to get this or the Nexus one.I know that the Milestone can be overclocked and the speed likewise,I'm not too worried about it.But,can I run things like Cyanogenmod 6.1 on it maybe, cos I would rather use a custom rom than wait for updates. Please answer me.Lastly,is the screen smooth like the amoled display on the Nexus One?Please help! Thanks!
Yes when overclocked to to 1GHz the Milestone is equal in CPU power to the Nexus One, and the GPU in the Milestone is faster then the Andreno 205 in the Nexus One, regarding the screen yes the Milestone has a much better screen than the Nexus One , regarding color acuracy and things like that, the Milestone uses a IPS panel that is regarded as one if the best screens in mobile industry, the only thing that the AMOLED in the N1 is better at is power consumption and even that not that big difference, so the Milestone wins, but the downside is the locked bootloader that really is a deal breaker, but if you can live with that the Milestone is better, and one more thing, is the oficial updates, the Nexus One is going to recive them for a couple of months or better, but the Milestone is EOL....
What?So that means I can't use custom roms on the Milestone?
It's beyond my comprehension how can anyone recommend Motorola Milestone over anything.
First we got the locked bootloader and yes, that means no custom ROMs for newer versions than Motorola provides. Because Motorola will provide only Froyo somewhere next few months, you can forget Gingerbread on Motorola Milestone.
Then there is the memory issue, Motorola Milestone has 256MB RAM compared to 512MB of Nexus One or other newer devices. This is a huge difference.
In short - if you want a good Android phone with keyboard, get HTC Desire Z. If you want a good keyboardless phone, get Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire or Nexus One (or Motorola Milestone 2). Motorola Milestone is a option only if you want to save lot of cash and you don't care for the limitations.
Yup thanks for the advice.
i am confused about custom rom?? what the roms available in the "Motorola Milestone Android Development" section of the forum? aren't they custom roms? planning to get a milestone too as it less expensive and i want a flash enabled phone..
Basically if the bootlocker is locked, you can't install a custom rom like cyanogenmod using rom manager. But must use other ways which is really difficult for me.The motorola milestone will be getting froyo aka android 2.2 so flash player will be available for download in the android market. So flash will still eventually be available for the Motorola milestone. But I doubt it will be getting android 2.3 so if you wanna get it,you may have to install a custom Tom which I say will be difficult for beginners like me but can be learnt However, the milestone is pretty old already. Why not get a milestone 2 or a Desire 2?Both have physical QWERTY keypad and android 2.2,that means flash is available.
way too expensive... i am going to buy an unlocked phone to use in my country.
Well, if you don care about custom roms, why not just get the motorola milestone and wait for froyo or maybe froyo is already available in your country It will be a pretty good buy! Root the motorola milestone and overclock it and you will feel your phone is really new!
Get a milestone if you want. Desire z has Sense ui and Europe has a bad rep on updating Sense Ui phone, take a while to update, even longer then Moto at times. Motorola is already thinking of support the original Droid with 2.3 os in Late Q1 2011. Maybe, that should give you milestone users; some hope on getting Gingerbread official or Rooted roms. If storage is the problem Do Sd partitioning to swap the apps on your sd..
Only if you were in america my droid has flash player, trust me is good but not great. Same goes with g2 aka htc desire Z have flash doesnt run excellent either. Droid/milestone is better then Desire Z. If you buy Desire Z u going to be spending more money on device; that has similar if not less feature then droid/milestone rooted.
Single LED FLASH= For picture in dark
Dual= 2 LED FLASH= On Milestone
Milestone has less ram with 256 ram, but with sd partioning that can be solved.
Desire Z have an 512 ram.
Milestone has D pad for gaming and better navigation without the touching the screen.
Desire Z has those loose hinges that can be a problem to several users.
Milestone has better GPU= graphic processor with Power vr CHip SHG 530 so does the Galaxy phones and iphones has them 540 and 535.
Desire z has adreno 205 which is limited.
Milestone have better resolution with 854x480 over
Desire Z that have 800x480 .
Milestone might not have the ram, but in everything else it beats Desire Z.
Milestone 512 rom internal memory, but allow user to use 256 Mb
Desire Z has 1.2 gb internal memory.
Overall I say go with Milestone if you are hacker.
Off topic info-In my opinion since the droid 1/Milestone came out a lot of phone are copying the layout of this phone . Look droid incredible,iphone4 and G2/Desire Z. They look like the original Droid.

The Milestone uses a 100MHz SG530.
The Adreno 205 in Desire Z is a lot faster than the Adreno 200 in the previous Snapdragons. Its performance is on par with the 200MHz SGX530 from Droid 2 or Droid X.
The Hummingbird in Galaxy S uses a SGX540 (blows everything away and sides with Tegra2), and both the 3GS and iPhone 4 use a SGX535 @ 150MHz (better performance/clock than SGX530, equivalent to SGX530 @ 200MHz in most cases).
The Desire Z is a better device all-round, no doubt about that. But it's also a lot more expensive.
And with all the dual-core high-end phones coming out in a couple of months, right now it's a really bad time to be spending a lot of money in high-end phones like the Desire Z.
If you're going to throw the Desire Z around, I would much rather have the Droid 2 Global. Its superiority over all phones makes up for the locked bootloader (IMO). It depends on your needs and standards. I place the touchscreen, overall display quality, and build quality above all else. In these departments, neither Nexus S (definitely not the N1) nor the Desire Z is in the same league as the Droid 2 Global.
milestone help...
Currently I'm not under contract with any carriers, was using my nexus one on local carrier and traded that for an iphone 4. Sold that and currently using a samsung vibrant which only cost $160. I can get a milestone for free with a 2 year contract, but I ll probably just the vibrant mainly. Would the milestone be a good backup android device? It seems out dated to me already, should I just stick with a blackberry bold (even more outdated)????
You should just keep your Vibrant, IMO.
I wouldn't sign a 2-year term just for the Milestone.
All I can say dump vibrant. Samsung take to long updating. It took them 9 month to update to android 2.2 os on vibrant from july 15 release until january 14th 2011 in tmobile usa. Sprint release their samsung galaxy(epic) came out in early august still stuck 2.1 os.
Samsung galaxy(captivate) 2.1 os came out late august no update yet.
Samsung galaxy(fascinate) 2.1 os in late september...
List go on
Droid 1 is getting 2.3 os in march . Giving chance to milestone user in getting gingerbread.

Umm...
Updates to the Droid are not useful in giving hope to Milestone users. We did not get stable 2.2 ROMs until Motorola leaked a 2.2 firmware. Locked bootloader means we can never replace the kernel until Moto releases a signed version.
HTC Sense UI has been *the most* up-to-date custom UI overlay out of all the manufacturers. Once an official Froyo ROM was released for the HTC Desire anywhere in the world (June/July 2010), the RUU was compatible with all GSM/HSPA Desire phones worldwide. The Droid 1 OTA did not arrive till August and it was a USA-CDMA exclusive that was relatively useless in providing options to non-US Moto users.
"Even longer than Moto at times"... can you provide me an example where HTC users had to wait longer in Europe for a working official-sourced Android update compared to a similar-generation Moto phone?
In Europe, as far as I can tell, every HTC phone that was about to get an update, got it long before the European Moto phones got theirs.
For example: HTC Desire got FroYo late summer/early autumn 2010 (forgot exact date).
Moto Milestone -> will get official FroYo sometime the next two-four weeks (Q1 2011!!). Inofficial "leaked" FroYo only appeared like a week ago (Asia-Pacific version, not even the one for Europe, but works just fine).
Do NOT(!) pick Milestone if you want to be able to do anything you want with your phone.
Get it if you can wait 2-3 more weeks for FroYo, and if you are willing to more or less use it "out-of-the-box". (maybe rooting and a bit of tweaking/overclocking/themes, but no REAL "Roms" possible).
get that droid x ME181 china-only market
or wait for dual core phone
That not true only a few location hasnt update their phones... A few european country already has updated the milestone 2.2 os since late december. Example Spain has 2.2 os already on their phone.
Htc desire got it update in July 31 the first full month of summer.
Motorola milestone aka Droid in usa got 2.2 os since August 3rd. If you hacker u can update milestone 2.2 os because droid users coded the update to milestone users already. Search up Droidforum.net That mean if droid get 2.3 os officially u milestone users can get it by us coding it for ya.
Not wait for htc to update the device.

According to the danish lg site, under FAQ of the LG Optimus 2x, they say that it'll be out in june/july 2011. So that seems to be as official they have stated a release date yet
If that's real, than it's a real shame. 6 months to get GB working on their flagship device seems really lame and only shows LG inability to give the updates in a timely manner. In June Android 2.4 will be already launched.
Yeah this sucks ballzzzz
Yeah it seems to be true, but have only been posted (as far as I have checked) on the Scandinavian sites for Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
I also made this post about it (maybe in the wrong section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034970
EDIT: With a picture btw.

oh my goodness when is the cyanogen gingerbread update .........
hehe who cares? I only care about CM7
The problem is there are a lot of fixes needed even within the LG Android 2.2.2, it's not all about providing GB. The stock LG software is subpar in my oppinion and the problems signaled here and on other forums needs to be addressed by LG hopefully before June.
[email protected], CM7 would be nice but for O2X is in a far from usable state.
If LG launch the 2.3 with the know how demonstrated on 2.2... I don't see how this is a good news...
CM7 is all that mater
maybe LG is waiting for cm7, and get the idea from it
I absolutely agree with the statement "Who cares, I just want CM7".
Then again, LG having the low-level dev access that they have (drivers and whatnot), isn't much easier for them to dev the update than for us to dev CM7? Moreover, wouldn't it be much easier to port CM7 if we had an LG 2.3 ROM?
Cheers.
Shame I switched from Samsung after month of **** firmwares and now the same on lg - now I really consider apple - they know hot to build a kernel to use the hardware

I kind of like LG for the speed, is much faster than the Galaxy S no matter what kernel you had on it, but O2X has other problems like the poor audio quality in calls and still the software doesn't feel like it's the final version, more like a test one. I agree we should expect more because the super fast hardware is there. It's a reality manufacturers don't care about that, they act like sell only the hardware and after that, they wash their hands. At least Samsung continue to support the Galaxy S which will have GB within weeks and in the meantime we have to wait until summer to get our port on O2X. I would never buy Apple, they sell just boring super expensive and locked products, that are still owned by them even after they sell them to you. If you want Android without headaches, the best bet is on the Nexus Phones. But, in the end, you can't have everything I guess...
Wow, that was long... what are we talking about here?
Sounds like the email I recived from LG Sweden this monday which said their devs had started to work on 2.3...... but what...started? Hasn't 2.3 been out for a while??

LG Optimus 2x have the potential to be faster then the Nexus S, all you need is just to wait until more developers use the phone
Hi guys(and girls), in 2011, should I get an original Droid? If I bought one it would be my first android phone, i've flashed a custom rom on a windows phone before but i don't know how to root yet, but would it be good for me to get a Droid now? With the newer phones that are out?
Honestly just get a newer and better phone for free. There are many free phones out there that are better hardware and software wise like the inspire 4g(which I have)

If I was buying my first Android right now (I bought the Milestone in September of '10) I might look at the Nexus one. I think Amazon has it for around $280, new. The screen size is the same but I think it's a little faster and is obviously better supported.
Consider buying a device with more RAM than droid.
Also you should answer a question, whether you are confortable with touchscreen virtual keyboard or not - I'm not, so I took Milestone
I would consider a keyboardless device ie EVO/HD2/Thunderbolt(big screens), my sister had a Cliq XT at one time and i tried texting on that, my thumbs were kind of big for the buttons?
Well guys, I got a Droid X today.
I've had my Droid for 2 years now and it's been a great device. The development community has been great and there are still a lot of good ROM a currently being developed and supported for it.
While it might not have the most memory, most apps can be pushed to SD. The processor overclocks to 1g (and usually even higher), so it can still match the quadrant scores of many newer phones.
If the price is right, and you want to experiment with rooting and flashing ROMs, not many other phones have as much community support and it's next to impossible to brick a Droid.
I have my Droid (Milestone, actually) for more than a year now and can't say anything bad about the device itself. When it comes down to Motorola, we're talking about a different sport
Motorola's update policy had me waiting for FroYo for months and when it came out, it was a beta-versions, months old that gave a lot of people WLAN-problems. Also the use of the bootloader is a real pain.
If you're willing to install a custom ROM, you're fine, there are good ones out there (I'm using FroyoMOD), but due to the company's update (and bootloader) policy, my next device won't be a Motorola.
I placed this in Q/A instead of general cause..... it's a question that's been bugging me since the beginning of all this X8 Modding stuff.
The question is Why did you buy the Xperia X8 when after, rooting and unlocking, a lot of people will want to install an HTC sense ROM or basically Clone the look of the HTC sense UI?
Why not buy the HTC Wildfire S? same proc speed, same GPU, TRUE DUAL Touch Capacitive screen, 512 ROM, 512 RAM (418 useable) and upto 32GB SD Support and Built in Android 2.3. and ofcourse SENSE UI 2.1.
BTW, this question is really valid only for those who bought their X8's after May2011.

That's actually a good reason. Price.... but, with the wildfire S which is less than double the price of the X8 you don't have to root and hence lose your waranty, and more than double the benefits of the X8. (RAM,ROM,True DT, Ginger ROM, etc)
Not dissing anyone or their decision on getting the X8, coz i love my X8 too and believe it or not, i like the original SE UI compared to HTC Sense. That was actually the reason why i got the X8 against the original Wildfire, and that was almost year ago. when the price of the X8 is actually more than the original Wildfire.
But my Question remains, with all the benefits of the Wildfire S, aside from price. Why get the X8?
and, Why put in Sense UI?
'Coz, to me it doesn't make sense...
.....Just asking.....
Cause it was Cheap
My friends told me that it is good
Can be over clocked highly D
Unfortunatelly it hasn't got so good camera, but it is good enough for me...
Because my gf want a phone that match my x10.. (^^,)

Very good of you
But i believe that yes, in the heart of it all, it comes to looks. Compared to the others, SE phones are probably the sexiest phones around, bar none.
i mean, if you didn't know the specs and you had the current superphones (Atrix, Sensation and S2) side by side with the ARC or NEO, what will you buy?
I want a gf too! But i'm only 12 years old!

+1
sent from my digital typewriter
Because it's the cheapest phone with Android OS
Because its cheap, good and very good loking phone with pretty good hardware so you can do what you want with it...
I remember a few months back. We were cursing SE due to their lack of support. A lot of people even said that they will no longer buy a SE phone. I was one of them
Guess what? I'm deciding on whether to get the Neo or the Ray.
Because... they look good!

yeah, same....
I bought it (July '11) mainly because of the special offer by my italian mobile carrier (49 €)
My primary phone was and is a Nokia N85, and I took the chance to finally try an Android-based phone with a very good specs/price ratio
Why X8?
I buy X8, while I'm a serious SonyEricsson fan (K510,K750,W585 and X8)
This model have a good price/knowledge ratio, and smaller than X10
Here in Portugal, Vodafone PT:
Sony Ericsson X8 €124,89
HTC Wildfire S €229,90
I think this is the reason why a lot of people buy X8 instead of WildFire S

Your age isn't a problem, but be carefull choosing your girl, she must have a Sony Ericsson Xperia™ phone
My ex-gf has a Nokia 5300 XpressMusic, thats why the ex prefix LOL
So, its mainly a price/performance/looks argument.
What's your next phone gonna be? Still SE?

I would probably still choose smartphones in the Xperia base because they look awesome and their specs are pretty good too.
Hope that helps.
The funny thing about the new xperia's is that SE is now helping with the development if 3rd party ROMs. Bold move, but I guess they learned their lesson from the F&ups of 2009-2010. ie the Arc is what the X10 should have been.
Hardware wise, they have to catch-up on the Super Smart Phone and tablet bandwagon.
