This is a bit of a longshot, but its an idea.
You need to go download ChompSMS. I'm not talking about the newest one, I'm talking about one of the first releases from almost 2 years ago or so. It came with a a built in proprietary on screen keyboard that was made obsolete with Android 1.5, and subsequently removed. If you can find this, what you can do is perhaps type out using the built in keyboard in the application in a new message the necessary commands, then copy and paste the commands into the terminal. I don't know how you would send the command though, perhaps by trackball or long-touching, etc, it depends on the application.
I don't have Android 1.0, and I have long forgotten the details of rooting, so this is all just a rough idea. If you can get far enough to the point where you can flash a ROM, get a 1.5 ROM on it, so you will have the on-screen keyboard.
Good luck.
Ok thx i'll give that a look thx

Sometime between flashing JacHEROski1.6r3cc(from twitter. Really slow by the way, needs tweaking) AND Cyan's 4.0.4 my G1 has decided that wifi doesn't need to work anymore.
I've tried several roms since I realized it wasn't able to turn on to try and get it working. I've also search Q&A and Dream Development looking for anyone or anything on the issue with no result.
I've reflashed the radio and spl and even had no luck with getting it to work on JF1.51 ADP. I'm stumped and would like to get it working.
I'm sorry in advance if this thread is uncalled for. Delete it if you must, but after 3 days of searching and requesting help from fellow xda peeps I am still without a fix.
Roms I've flashed since the problem
Jacheroski's
1.6r2 a & b
Cyan's
4.0.3
4.0.4
4.1.1
Jacxrom
1.4r2
1.4r3
JF
1.51 ADP
Twisted's
4.5r3
All with the same result "unable to start WIFI"
Edit: 8/31/09
Okay so after calling T-mobile's PDA tech support I've found out that this issue has warrant for replacement. It is a know issue with their latest update. Before they could send me out a replacement I had to check the color indicator circle to make sure it is white (which it is) and give the my G1's IMEI # which I did located under the battery. I am now waiting for a replacement which should arrive in a week. SO Yeah!!! I wasn't able to change the color though (the bronze has a hard to read slide out keyboard is dim light) and I guess my battery warranty was up in July = [
I have a few days left before I have to send it in. Does anybody want any info off my device before I return it? Like logs etc. Just pm me.
Mod thanks for not closing this thread right away = ]
Mod okay to close = ]

Huh... well... I hate to say it... but it may be a hardware issue. Sorry. If you wipe and flash your rom then it should start up. Or maybe it could be your access point (if it's an 802.11a or something).
you may want to hit me for saying this, but if you can't get a wipe/flashing fix, try going back to rc-29 and finding the stock 1.5 update (someone has it in their sig i just can't recall right now, sorry). and see if it will work in a stock build. if it doesn't then it is a hardware problem and your phone will be back at stock so you can call for help. if it does work on stock though, since you have already rooted your phone before i have an easy to follow guide to get you back to the latest and greatest cyanogen mod from stock in my sig
hope this is of some help
definitely try what binary100100 posted above me first though.
I'll try R29. I am rooted. I can su in terminal in all the roms accept Cyan's 4.1.1 (theres something weird with it) So my plan is to flash to an Official T-mobile rom and call for tech support. is there anything I need to know before I call tomorrow?

do not mention ANYTHING about rooting, flashing, recovery, anything technical at all. the dumber you sound the better.
Thanks for the advice. I will post my findings tomorrow.
Have you looked thru your kernel log (dmesg) for any error messages that might show up when you attempt to turn on your wireless radio? I'd check there first and post back.
i . ll just start from the beginning. i installed a jesus freke ROM on my G1, i dont remember what version. i think it was 1.41 or something like that. (RC29 or RC33, idr). i downloaded an app or maybe it was an app that came with the ROM that let me know of jesus freke's updates. i hadnt checked it awhile as the G1 is not my primary device. when i checked for it last week, it showed an update and i attempted to install it. i completely forgot the procedure for updating a new image and im prretty i bricked it because it wont go past the android screen, even after waiting about 10-15 minutes, it still wont go past it. so my question is, can somebody please help me unbrick my G1? im in no hurry as im not using it on a daily basis, but id like to get this resolved as soon as possible so i can sell my G1. anyways, id appreciate it if someone could help. if so, can you give some detailed instructions as im not TOO familiar with android. i know a little about it, but too much.
thanks guys,
josh.
if you can access recovery mode, just go and reinstall other rom, i recommend cyanogenmod - user friendly and it got a complete guide on there website to install.
youll have to expand on that a little more, like i said, im not that familiar with android.. i dont have an SD card in there, and i suppose that might pose a problem trying to flash another ROM to it.. can you give me some links and some specific directions when you have a chance..? i'd greatly appreciate it.

This right here is why I say don't root if you don't know wtf you're doing. This always happens to people who should have just stayed away. Look:
Power phone completely off. Hold home key and power on. If you get to the recovery screen (the screen with a bunch of options, probably all written in green for you) then you're not bricked. All you need to do is put latest cyanogenmod on your sdcard, wipe your phone, and install it.
Hi all
first time poster here
I currently have a rooted N1, and just recently update to froyo, love it so far
but i have a problem, after the update, the word suggestion feature doesnt seem to work, like normally, if you type something wrong, it will show a bunch of suggestion above the keyboard.
It just doesnt do that anymore
anybody have any idea ?
Thanks
It certainly should still be there. Did you wipe before installing 2.2?
yea i followed the instruction given
Hi, i bought a motorola milestone from ebay and was working fine so i decided to upgrade to android 2.1. now the touch panel on the phone does not work and cant find any information on how to fix this. i am getting very annoyed to the point where the phone will come in contact with the wall very hard. if anyone can please help me try and fix my amazing phone then you can contact me on here or at carter_noel at hotmail dot com. thanks guys
First, make sure you applied the right firmware update for your phone...there's several versions floating around depending on what market you live in and putting the wrong one on your phone can create issues (but usually just connection issues, not screen issues).
Did you do an Over The Air update or USB? It's possible that even if you used the right firmware, that the update wasn't applied properly, and that can cause all kinds of problems.
You can always manually re-flash it with RSD Lite via USB. Keep in mind that will wipe the phone just like a factory reset.
Very clear instructions and download links for all version of the Milestone here: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-milestone/75460-milestone-2-1-update-root-guide.html
It's a better guide than the one here on XDA.
thank-you for replying to my problem. could it also be to do with the version of windows im using as it windows 7 64 bit but need to reinstall as loads of problems with various things including .net framework (which might be the problem?). which operating system do you or anyone reccomend to use?
So, I'm getting really frustrated and reading isn't helping at all. I know there is plenty out there, but I can't seem to find a solution after spending probably 5 hours today on my phone trying to restore the correct product code on my phone so I can use kies mini to put it back to stock 2.2 android. I followed the directions exactly in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880223 , all to no avail. I am able to pull my efs file from my phone and edit it just fine, but when I try to push the new edited file back to my phone, something doesnt work in the command prompt, and the window disappears before I can read what's going on.
I really don't know where to go from here. I feel stupid, as if I'm not saving the edited file to the correct place or something. anybody have a similar issue?
The reason I NEED to get this figured out is that I got this phone as a replacement and it came stock with 2.2 on it, so I need to get it back to that in order return it again, and it worries me that I can't get the product code switched back. Am I just SOL?
Have you tried super manger in market. Just make shore you mount data read / rewrite (r/rw). Or use root explorer if willing to buy it

The only two things that I have ever needed to do this is Root Explorer and hex editor in the market. Success every time. Let me know if you need assistance.
