Its out now, anyone seen it yet?
This should help out a lot...hopefully next we can move apps to the mem. card.
just found that you can view the app data by going to system and then to apps.
you think if we were to make a app folder on the mem. card they would run? im going to play around and see what happens
well the manager at the moment only lets you view the files. I have tired multiple times to cut and paste program files onto the mem. card but with no luck. possibly the second file manager program will have all of the bugs out of it.
but....
do you think if we had a system/app file on our mem. card the phone would pull the apps off of our card? just trying to get things rolling here so we can get everything FINALLY on our cards and stop wasting all of our phone memory.
THANKS
I don't think so... but could be wrong. I noticed the card only has "media" folders nothing yet is stored on the card really.
ya i noticed that as well....hopefully this is a step in the right direction. once we can actually view ALL files and are able to move things around then things should start to get interesting.
what if we were to somehow make a shortcut to tell the phone where the app is? so only the command to the app on the memory car would be on the phone. it would be a VERY small size file on the phone compared to the entire app...think this may work?
I doubt we can ever be able to move or view all files. Google set it up so our version is locked down and no one can get root access.

Just one damned symlink. That's all we need.

True words. Sometimes I think that openness and mobile operators are two incompatible things. You should be watching the presentation of G1 organized by T-Mobile. All was going good until the audience was able to ask questions. The questions were about operator restrictions on the device and locking. The general mood of the presentation went down after it...
With the source code available, can't the developers just compile a new version of the software to run on the G1 which is not locked by the operator/carrier?
Don't know much about developing but just wondering what it is that really stands in the way?

A good developer that knows what he/she is doing is what is standing in our way. This is all new so it will take time for developers to first look at the code and start building. And more time to perfect their talents on this new device and OS.
I'll give props to this program for it's functionality that should have been native.
At work I had a customer who had a bad version of a ringtone he made with Ringdoid and needed to delete. Aside from refer him to edit the SD via USB (which I cannot even do yet w/o swapping devices).
I had him d/l the Android File Manager and use that to locate and delete. Made it easy and only took 2 mins d/l time included.
Based on the good start, this might become the default file manager I use once more options become available within it. (especially the open ability - and a select all would be nice).

At the moment Glance because it looks as thou Android File Manager is now just for the SD Card I can't seem to access anything else.
With the inclusion of flash beta in froyo, is it possible to play a .swf movie or game outside the browser?
There are some flash games I'd like to play on the go without using data. I've tried downloading a particular game called Red Remover and opening through Astro, however I get the error saying "swf file type not found"
Any way around this?
if you were to try to create a shortcut in bettercut you would notice under Activities that there is a Flash 10.1 file selector activity of some sort
i haven't tried that out myself so perhaps you could give it a go and let us know
Hi,
Thanks a lot.
I made a shortcut to "Adobe flash expandable file Chooser" (the other one I chose fc'ed when I opened it.)
When I open this one, I'm given a bland menu of Audio files, Image files and Video files all as drop down folders.
It shows all my media of that type. I can't find my swf file though. It doesn't come under video, and I have too many songs and images to scroll through and find it (and I doubt it'll be in the other categories)
Any other suggestions?
you can publish the .swf to some server and navigate to it via the browser, there is a tedious workaround to play swfs locally (i remember doing it on the hero), i'll see if i can find it and let you know
dug through my past stuff and found this:
navigate to content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/example/file.html via your browser
see if it helps
Seems a bit too much work to play the one game.
I wouldn't have a clue on how to publish the game. My only guess would be to open the game in Flash Cs3 on my Mac and press F12. After that I'd be stuck.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Hopefully there's a simpler way to do it soon.
Perhaps Adobe air which is supposedly coming soon could do what I want to do.
i tried the above method, it works on the N1, but you have to use the browser as container. basicaly you are able to navigate to local swfs using this method
Could you give me some more details on how to do this?
I've type into my browser content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/apps/rr.swf
Yet I get errors.
What exactly file are you typing in, and what are you doing to the. Swf file? Is it just the raw file, or have you published it or something.
Because essentially I could make a shortcut to the URL and change the icon and basically have myself a flash game on the go.
Edit: sorry about that. Just realised I navigate to the raw file with a .Swf extension, not HTML.
Works well! I would've thought this game be perfect for mobile. Though I can't seem to interact with it past the menu screen. It's called Red Remover BTW.
if the folder containing the swf is "apps" on your sdcard and "rr.swf" the file that you want to play, it should actually work
oops, just saw that you problem got resolved good to hear

you can use multitouch to enlarge the content, then you will be able to comfortable hit "ok" and proceed to the game. best to turn to landscape mode. double tapping adjusts the content optimally to the screen
Wow, thanks a lot man. Gotta try a few more games, see if they work.
One thing I'm frustrated with is that I can't make that URL into a bookmark shortcut on my homescreen. It comes up with " This application is not installed on your phone".
Thanks anyway again
Edit: for what you said above, I've already tried. Hitting OK is easy, then hitting new game is even easier(the same with selecting a level)
Although when selecting blocks, I have to wait about 30 secs to a minute to 1 minute for my touch to take any action.
yep, not being able to create a shortcut of the bookmark is a bummer. i haven't played the game, but i know that quite a few flash games work wonderfully on android. my favourite is the bloody penguin
Please, explain how to make html file for an swf?
can someone tell me how to get max cash and such with it.

It's too technical, but I'll give it a shot anyway, since you asked nicely and all that:
Intro: Basically, GameCiH2 is a real-time memory editor. What it does is that it will search the app's entire memory addresses for the values that you have inserted. For the PC, a good analogy will be CheatEngine and such. If you haven't yet, try downloading CheatEngine and go through the tutorials to see how it works.
That's it. I'm not going a step further.
contract killer credit cheat
use this cheat to gain credits and buy cash with it, i will explain now: go into your game, go to store, free credits, download as many games as you can to get a decent amount of credit, i worked my way up to 114, some of the games are oka and can be hacked with game cih, or uninstall them after opening them, ,right now you have done the difficuilt part, now you can get that amount any time you want, to do this you must have root explorer, es file explorer, etc, say you have root explorer,1 open and goto data, data, com.glu.android.ck, app_etc, hold on tapjoy.dat and delete it, now open your game up and you will recieve your credits, just keep doing step 1 and you will keep receiving that amount you have built up to, if i helped please thank me
This is a simple procedure to change the interface of android to windows phone
First of all,I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HARM YOU MAY CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE!!!!!Guys just a sec! I am busy u knw!But finally, after long waiting, here's the procedure
First download these awesome softwares from other cool devs available on the play store or as apks on the net
Launcher 7(Home screen)
Photo safari(Pictures hub)
Z player (Music Player)
WP7 Notifications(Notifications.Duh!!)
My xbox live(games hub)
Wp7 Lock(lock screen)
WP7 Contacts(Contacts)
Wp7 Phone(optional)
Wp7 calculator
Wp7 email
Downloaded? Now for the second step,Shift all the user apps to system apps.Apps like the phone and music should be replaced.Xbox live, calculator can just be loaded.NoteELETE THE ODEX FILES IF YOURE DELETING A SYSTEM APP!!!
In case you dont knw how to make a user app to system read on,else, skip the next para
There are two ways you can convert a user app to system:The NOOB way and the XDA way!
Noob wayownload titanium backup pro, long press an app,go to special functions and click move to system app Or download system app mover.
XDA way:
Important: Make sure to allow any SuperUser permission requests that you may get during these steps..
Procedure
Configuring ES File Explorer for root read/write access (required only once):
Launch ES File Explorer, press Menu and tap ‘Settings’.
In the settings, enable the ‘Up to root’ check box.
Further down in the settings, enable ‘Root Explorer’ check box. You will get a warning that you should confirm.
You will then get the Superuser permissions request that you must allow.
Finally, enable the ‘Mount File System’ check box, and press the back key to get back to the explorer interface. ES File Explorer is now configured to work as a root explorer. You do not need to do this again on the same device now, unless you uninstall ES File Explorer, perform a factory reset or install another ROM.
Finding the APK of an already-installed normal app (skip to step 3 if you already have the APK):
First of all, install the app from Play Store, if you haven’t already done that.
Launch ES File Explorer and go to /data/app. (You may have to press the back button to get to / first).
If you know the icon of the app, you can easily find it here. If you are having trouble finding the app here due to the confusing names or because of having a lot of apps installed, just search for the app in Google Play Store in a web browser and look at its Play Store link for the name. The file name will basically be the part after ?id= in its market link (and before any other question mark that may or may not appear in the link).
If you already have the APK of the file that you want to install as a system app, make sure you have transferred it to your device’s SD card if you haven’t done that already. Also make sure you know the path where you have copied it on the SD card.
Once you have located the required APK on the SD card from ES File Explorer, tap-and-hold on its icon till you get a menu, and tap ‘Cut’. You should see a little blue arrow on the bottom of the screen now. (You may select ‘Copy’ instead of ‘Cut’ if you are copying a file over from the SD card and want to keep a copy there. In case of copying an APK from /data/app, always use ‘Cut’.)ES File Explorer Copying
Now press the back button till you reach / and then browse to /system/app/
Tap the little arrow that you see on the bottom of the screen. It will bring up a pane with the icon of the copied file.
Tap on the file’s icon, and it will be transferred to /system/app/.
Now find the app’s icon in the list of files there and tap-and-hold on it till you get the menu.
Scroll down in the menu till you see ‘Properties’ and tap on it. You will now see the properties dialog.
Tap the ‘Change’ button in front of the Permissions to bring up the permissions dialog.
Make sure everything under ‘Read’ is checked, only ‘User’ is checked under ‘Write’ and nothing is checked under ‘Execute’ Your screen should look like the following:ES File Explorer Permissions
Tap OK on this screen and then on the Properties screen. Your app’s permissions are now set correctly.
Reboot your device. Your app is now ready to be used as a system app.(optional)
Well were done!
youre ready to use ur brand new WP7!!!

Just buy a WP7 phone.
Oh wait, no need to buy. just moaning to them about your android or ios phone and they will give you free one.
There are many apps in the market that will change the look to WP7. Start with a metro UI launcher.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The best metro style launcher is Launcher 7, it has a great customizatoin capablities, and even came with some live tiles.(email, contacts, calendar, gallery, widget tile). even more you can customize tiles.
here you can find the launcher and many nice alternative png for tiles.
also if you are on a CM9/10 or AOKP ROM you can find some winphone7 themes too. I can't find the link right now, but sure you can find it in XDA. just search for wp7 theme.
and you can find a nice messagind app, name Messaging 7. and a status bar replacement named statusbar+
if WP7 has only a single perfect point it is the launcher. It's about a month that I'm using Launcher 7, and surprisingly I found it even easier to use than usual android launchers.
p.s the launcher 7 is designed by an independent developer so it has some bugs. for example contacts live tile drains the battery at unbeliveable speed. ignore that live and use a static one.

Hello,so i have been trying tnsuccessfully to add custom ringtones to my contacts on my Samsung S20 FE. I have removed most stock Samsung apps that come installed on the phone and i replaced them with the Google apps. So i have Google contacts installed instead of the Samsung contacts app. When i try to set a ringtone to a certain contact,i am not given any option to add anything beside the factory tones installed on the phone.
There is no option to add a music file at all. Does anyone know how i can work around this to set specific ringtones for each of my contacts please? I am at a loss now and dont know how to get this sorted. My phone is not rooted at all so please can someone help me sort this?
U have to make in Internal storage a Ringtones folder and put there whatever tunes u like. Than u should be able to customize your contacts ringtones with these tunes.

Hi @ToothFairy' i actually did do that already and still i am unable to select anything other than the Samsung pre-installed tones when wanting to add to a contact
Install a file explorer (like ES File Explorer or Solid Explorer) and, after taping Set ringtone (first upper right 3dots on contact in question), choose that file explorer and, with it, the tune u desire.
Hope I made myself understood.
Good luck!

Thanks,i will give that a try. Hopefully it works
Finger crossed!
Don't forget to keep us posted about how it worked!
Gave it a try, unfortunately still no luck. It does'nt give an option to use a file manager. Seems like the Samsung default settings are somehow preventing the Google Contacts app from allowing custom ringtones at all.
That's strange!!! It's working for me! Either with one of those two file explorers mentioned before.
Before choosing ringtone, have you tried to open that new fresh installed file explorer and "play" with it? It needs permissions to read/write on system and/or sd card. Can you see, in file explorer, the folder created i.e. "Ringtones"?
Which file manager are you using? I have file manager + installed and still nothing as you can see in the screenshots ive added
@ToothFairy' it seems i managed to find a way to get it working in the end. So what i had to do was select each ringtone first as the ringtone for my phone. That then adds the tones to the list and then when i go to the Google Contacts app and tap on ringtone, the ringtone i want to add for that person is there already and it allows me then to add it.

On attached screenshots i used Solid Explorer.
1. tap on right 3 dots and choose Set ringtone
2. tap on opened options (in my case i used Solid Explorer)
3. select Ringtones folder that you made on Main storage or SD Card
4. choose the desired ringtone.
It's the same with ES File Explorer.

Thanks for all yottr help,i appreciate it. Now its on to my next dilemma. Figuring which system and bloat apps i can get removed with ADB. Done the basics like phone, contacts, messages etc already and replaced with the Google apps. Stuff like Bixby etc that i dont use,i want to get off too. Just not sure which i can and cant
What's the REAL benefit of doing all those??? It's a damn phone not a space rocket!!! It looks like u're scratching without itching!
Sorry, don't get me wrong, but I think it's a waste of time and, besides that, it looks like u're not so much of a tech savy and, for that reason, u might brick your phone or whatever.
This goes for that Samsung apps replaced with ones from Google, too! Why did you do that? What have u earned by doing this?
It tooked 3 damn days to figure it out how to assign a ringtone to a contact!
Sure, I disabled some of the apps that I know I'll never use. But from this to using adb and messing with my phone without knowing what I'm doing it's a long road.
Again, don't take it personally but I just don't understand.
Good luck.
PS: you don't need to quote me all the time if you respond after me.
