[Q] Another my phone is ... Broken - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

And here was me thinking I was shielded from a broken phone by a working 3 button recovery -
So some of this is my own fault, I basically flashed CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar without anything else due to a misreading of instructions the problem is my phone will not start at all now, nothing no lights no button combination working zilch the phone responds to nothing.
I've taken the battery out, sim out and memory card put it back in still nothing!
I've got it on charge at the moment and the back is getting warm but no battery sign on the screen etc anyone have any ideas?

What have you done?
Can you come to download mode?
Have you flashed pit 512, CSC and modem file?
Which version of ODIN 1.0 or 1.3?

Nope I flashed only CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar
No PIT file and im using Odin3 v1.30

Download mode

Nope (I could before now) It quite literally will not switch on, no indication of life, no lights on the keys or anything just nothingness

Battery out

Take the battery out and wait for 20 sec. Putt it back and try to go to download mode again.

Nope that doesn't work either -
If I had re-partition checked while only flashing CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar would that cause this? I suspect that is why im in the situation I am now because I had re-partition checked :O
I think this might be a ring vodafone and tell them I've lost this one, as im pretty sure my warranty and insurance do not cover user idiocy lol

No it´s not that. I think it's because of no pit, csc and modem...

hurm - so Its pretty much the end of this phones life? There isn't a great deal that can be done when I cant get it to switch on!

I think you are lost. Maybe you can try to put the usb cable on the phone at switch it to your pc. You can also try to charge it for a while.

Thank you for your help Its not fixed, but I've called voda and they are sending me a new one, lesson learned lol..

Just in case anyone has the same problem and comes across this thread I solved the issue.
Basically the following steps -
Boot up Odin
Remove battery from phone
Plug phone into USB
While doing the key sequence for download mode push the battery back in
And I was now in download mode, it took awhile to sort out after that, I actually had to rip the battery while installing the PIT file as it just kept hanging at that point, eventually I seen the phone!pc sign and for some reason it allowed me to flash everything back using Odin.
(insurance claim cancelled with voda lol)

[Q] My Captivate Needs Help Bad ! ! !

I have a 2 month old AT&T Captivate and about a month ago I loaded the Andromeda v2.0 MOD and love it. Everything was working fine until about a week ago when my external speaker stopped working. I turned to the Andromeda programmers and one of them had me upgrade to v1.2 but that didn't help and they helped me downgrade back to stock so I can turn the phone back to AT&T.
But along the way something happened and now the AT&T white flash screen just flashes on and off every two seconds. I've tried every process on this web site including building a JIG to force the phone into download mode but that didn't work either.
Does anyone have any idea how to get this crippled Captivate back to stock?
Thank you.
So, when it started flashing was it running the stock ROM? If so call At$T and get a replacement shipped to you.
Does the phone go back in download mode?
Did you try the one click Odin or the manuel one?
If you have tried one of them try the other one and see if that works and also I believe you would get more responses if you post this in Captivate questions and answers rather then in development.
To fix the speaker problem, you need to take off the back cover, and press down on the bezel around the speaker (the speaker unit can pop out).
Not much help for your bootloop (which is what sounds like is happening- search for this phrase, perhaps you'll have some luck).
Good luck,
AoN

Do you mean take off the battery cover then spess down on the speaker or take off the battery cover then the back cover under the battery and the rest of the back of the phone?
There is an Odin 1-Click and an Odin full version that is not 1-click. Which one did you use? Can you get into download mode after a battery pull?

I use the One Click. When I pull the battery and put it back in it does nothting. I have to push the power button and it goes into bootloop.
1. Pull the battery out and put back in. DO NOT TURN PHONE BACK ON..
2. open odin.
3. Hold Down the volume up and volume down buttons at the same time while plugging in the USB Cable.
4. once you are in download mode click start in odin.
Have you tried this?

Yes this has happened to me before build yourself a jig or buy one from Mobile Tech Videos and use the link I have above to get back to stock.
You must be a build 1010 or higher because we (im a build 1011) cannot use the 1-click. Do not worry you didnt brick your phone you'll just need a jig and after that your smooth sailing if you follow the instructions in that post

Is the battery charged?
I had this exact problem. Don't worry though, the fact that your phone is in a bootloop is actually a really good sign, it means you're not permanently bricked.
The newer builds (1010 and up) can't use odin 1 click to get back to stock (can't remember the reason though). There's a post I'll look up for you that shows you how to use odin3 to get back to stock.
What you need to do is build yourself a jig (or buy a premade one) because our phones don't have the three key combo enabled (the volume up+ down & power key etc). I'm on my phone atm so I'll have to go find the link for the jig guide too.
Edit: the odin3 guide was already posted above, but here's the link again for the sake of redundancy:

Phone is Dead - A warning for others.

Ok, heres the deal.
My girlfriend has the same Galaxy S as i do, and i wanted to go back to stock.
Id grabbed all the needed files off her galaxy (boot.bin, cache.rfs, dbdata.rfs, factory.rfs, modem.bin, param.lfs, sbl.bin and zImage) and loaded up heimdall to flash them all back.
The flash finished successfully, the phone switched off, and i awaited a reboot.
It never came.
The phone is now in a Non- Functional state, wont turn on at all.
The battery was fully charged at the time, and ive also pulled her battery out and tried it, but still no go.
Im thinking something inside is fried.
Just thought id share my misfortune with you, just in case someone else was going to try the same thing.
If you were gonna try....think twice
So i guess its back to Optus shop on tuesday, and see what i can do about a replacement.
Cheers all.
you shouldn't use boot.bin ,Sbl.bin and param.lfs. It is not safe to play around these files, you could dump other files and flash it,without any problem,
Ok, well maybe thats what has killed it.
Ive tried all key combinations, but nothing at all.
Pretty convinced its fried.

I did the same thing on my phone and happened so, but I took it to service center and they repaired without changing the board or opening it(this is what I think because there were no trace of any physical repair), anyhow its working again. but before you may try some methods which I read in some forum as below:
Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
You should be in Download Mode.
there is another method which I will try to find and inform you
Thanks for the tip....but no go.
Screen still black....
Its like its not getting power at all.
Try and force it in to download mode [vol down - home key - power button] and then reflash it with a stock rom. If that fails then you could try holding just the power button in for a minute or 2 but if that also fails then your last option is to try and either get hold of a jig or make one to try and get it in to download mode.
Using the application Odin should fix this problem. as above said, about vol up vol down, im sure it is volume down, powerbutton and homekey when connecting to a comp when odin is open. Odin is ure failsafe. correct me if i am wrong with this information!

Ive tried all key combinations that we know.
Ive flashed it many times before, but i think this time after the flash, something has blown, in between the battery, and the power switch, so its not getting any power.
I think the only cure is to return to samsung for repair.
Ive tried everything that ive read from various google searches for the last 8 hours or so...and no hope.
Im almost positive theres no power getting from battery to the power switch.
Phone is Dead - A warning for others.
Yes follow instructions understand what you are doing first dont make it up as you go along .
I would guess you have destroyed boot loader .
Possible fix is download mode recovery jig .
Samsung service centre possible charge .

Grabbing some resistors tomorrow, will see how that goes.

If the Sbl.bin id non functional, the Jig can't do anything, you must use a RiffBox or equivalent sadly.
sad story, hope never will happen to me
If its still under warranty just go to samsung service centre and tel them you tried upgrading firm ware over the kies and phone did not boot after that. Its not easy for samsung to find what you did with the phone. they will replace mobo free if warranty is valid.

Yeah will do.
Mrs will take the phone in to where she bought it on tuesday, and see what the process is.
Phone still under warranty so i doubt ill have any worries getting it repaired.
Bought a jig this morning for $8.00.
Knew it wouldnt get my phone goin after reading that if the secondary boot loader was not intact that it wouldnt work. As id flashed the sbl.bin i knew it was toasted, but for 8.00, having a jig handy is worth every cent anyhow.
Have my Galaxy Tab to use as a phone untill the "S" is repaired, so thats a bonus.
Although im without a phone for possibly 2 weeks or so, i dont regret flashing it.
Its a good learning curve, and one ill remember.
At least i know now, that even though heimdal has slots for the bootloaders, DONT USE THEM
Its all good, and im not discouraged in any way from flashing it again as soon as its repaired lol.
All in all its been a good lesson learned.
Ive learned about the download jig, which of was unaware of earlier.
Thanks to all those who replied with info....i do appreciate it.
Will post back results of the phone return....when i know more.
Cheers
Thats the spirirt dude. I was in the same situation as yours. Got my motherboard replaced under warranty period, they took 2 weeks but were quite helpful. I said kies update bricked my phone. They replaced it for me. All happened within 2 weeks of the phone purchase. so it was bit tenseful situation. I own I9003.
Got my Galaxy back yesterday.
Turns out the main board was fried.
They replaced the board...and am now functional again...
Its the stock DTJP3 firmware.....but not for long LOL
Think ill leave heimdalls boot options blank from now on...better still, ill use Odin instead.

hey..i have the same problem..going to svc tmmr...how long did it take?

[Q] PROPERLY BRICkEd SAMSUNG GALAXY S I9000's ONLY - (no screen response)

hi iv had a serious journey with my sgs i9000 here's how it goes:
i had it on 2.2 and then upgraded it officially to 2.3.3
not much else happened until i realised i wanted voodoo sound (apparently it was hyped to be awesome....its not that great) and neither is the ext4 file system 2.3.3 seems to be just as fast...dont know if it was a major problem on 2.2 but it aint really on 2.3.3
so i flashed voodoo on 2.3.3 from some website ... downloaded the app for the sound as the kernel didnt support that...
then i was using it and played around with the settings in clock work manager and i mounted and unmounted sd/card i dont think it made much difference but i thought i'd mention it ... the reason i did this is because when i tried to load a rom it wouldnt find all my sd card files beyond like the first 5 folders so i thought i'd give it a kick start....
then what happened is the phone just went off and i couldnt get it back on.... little did i know this was soft brick... i didnt know why....
i got the computer screen with the phone and exclamation mark.... i got into download mode a few times....
NOW .... i cant get it to turn on AT ALL using any combo buttons....
i think the nail in the coffin was flashing it with the "one-click odin" which was for the captivate but it said i could use it on the i9000 too.... which blatently screwed up the device....
anyway iv ordered a jig device... if this gets me into download mode ....what am i supposed to do...?
also is there anything i can do to get it into download mode now ? (bearing in mind iv done all the combo's ... some people say leave the battery out for a couple of minutes or half an hour....)
i think the bootloader is screwed up because it doesnt switch on....
even after i did a clean install of 2.3.3 with the pda phone and csc roms... it still just randomly switched off after 2/3 minutes of boot time....
what do i do now ?
samsung repair centre said they couldnt do anything and i'd have to send it back to samsung.... is it that bad?
Tried all the combos.... So you tried plugging in combo, then battery and also holding combo and then battery without cable in...
Have you read the pinned thread in general i think it is regarding, bricks?
Moving on
how did you do a clean install of 2.3.3 if you couldn't get DL mode??
Haven't read into the one click Odin so can't comment on that, but i think that was meant to be for softbricks...
anyway regarding the jig, just plug it in, and then wait a second or so, of not a minute (usually instant) and it should go into download mode. If it doesn't work again try some combos with the jig in...
If it is a hard brick i think you need to J-tag it, or yes take it to samsung in which case they may charge you for a repair, unless you say kies did it, and you didn't tell them everything you didi when you spoke to em.
Think thats everything lemme know if i missed out a question of yours or you want something better explained etc..
yeah i guess i was vague on the combo thing...
i've tried:
a) holding power, menu and volume down while sliding battery in (no usb cable in )
b) same as above with usb cable in
c)just menu and volume down buttons while i put battery in
d) both volume buttons and cable in
e)both volume buttons and battery in
.... the reason for d and e is because when i flashed it with the one click odin installer thing.. it restarted and showed a a t&t screen so i think its flashed the software with a samsung capacitive rom....so in theory i need to use those buttons ? not sure .... yet more questions....
i just hope this jig thing works ... btw do i have to pay sammy is my phone is under warranty?
how do i reflash the bootloader so it works properly? is that even the problem? do i need to do that? which pit file do i use ? some people say 512.... some say thats outdated and the new pit file is the thing to use .. ?

ok now iv got it to turn on quite regularly .... but it keeps cycling (bootlooping) the at&t logo screen .... cant get into download mode or recovery mode.... just keeps boot looping.... oh and when i plug in the usb cable it just turns off.... its like i cant start it up with a usb in the phone...
update: been reading around and if anyone has this problem.... it looks like you might be hard bricked and apparently this cant be resolved via jig device..... dammit ...i'll still try and update the post... peace
So you haven't tried the jig yet?? because you haven't got it yet right
I don't think the device is bricked at all. Bricked usually means you have no response from it, so no matter what combo, actions you take you get no reaction.. However you are getting a boot although there is something going wrong as it does so...
So yes you need a new bootloader, i think every rom that you flash through odin has one, but i guess it may not, its best to search this, but i have read a few posts that say you need to click on update bootloader (i would check into this, as if this is wrong it will definitely brick your device)
My suggestion is go back to the onclick odin thing as that should do it, im sure someone has done something similar.
Yh so to sum up, i would have high hopes for a restoration (but what so i know ) and yes flashing a new bootloader with rom i reckon would do the trick. I think a stock rom will do it. Click on the stock rom link below and type in a few search terms in that thread to see if you pick up anything otherwise do a slightly wider one of the forum.

jig arrived today! .... i plugged it in ..... NOTHING ..... (read on theres more to the story!!!)
so i put it in nothing happened...... i thought maybe the jig device was not working so i tried it in the i9100 (s2) .... WORKED ...!
im really stubborn so i needed to make mine work too..... i read in a review of the jig device that someone bought one and it hadnt worked .... i hadnt ruled that out
anyway all day i just kept trying to jump start it by putting in the wall charger in and out ... i usually get some reponse from that....nothing apart from a second of something like a loading circle......
anyway then i left it on charge for an hour ....maybe the battery was dead and then tried again ....
(btw i was getting no response at all at this stage, not even the at&t thing ...)
so it was pure black screening me.....
then i got home from work and thought let me exchange the battery and see what happens....
i changed the battery and put the jig device in ...... VOILA !!! download mode....
all is well so far i've flashed with 2.3.3 pda, phone and csc files and checked repartition... i haven't messed with the bootloader option
seems to be working ok....also gave it a restart too ... last time it got to this point but it didnt turn back on after a restart ....
in conclusion .... charge battery fully externally (putting the power in the phone in this state was not charging it)
then with a full battery put jig in .... if that doesnt work you phone might be seriously bricked.... bravo to whoever dreamt up the jig device
Glad to hear the great news!
Nice

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S 100% unresponsive after Odin flash..

Oh dear...
I was experiencing the PHONE-->Triangle-->PC logo problem after a flash with odin went 'wrong' with my galaxy S phone.
I followed the guide here to solve it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981343
And as a result flashed my phone with the stock firmware from this file:
T959UVKA6_REV05_home_low_CL860813.tar
ODIN successfuly reported a green 'Success' Screen, so i disconnected the phone and tried to power it on. But the device is completely 100% unresponsive.
Nothing happens when i plug it into the PC, nor when i charge it from the mains.
I've searched and tried loads of suggestions from this and other forums, solutions including:
1. Removing battery, holding both VOL keys down, plugging into PC.
2. Holding normal HOME, VOL+, Power key. and HOME, VOL-, Power Key...
The problem is, i cannot get the galaxy s to respond to ANYTHING. So there is no way i can get into the download screen to re-flash.
Can anyone lend any advice to me about this issue? Is the phone totally dead now?
I read things about a JTAG? or somesuch cable, but these cables appear to only work as long you can get the "downloading" screen to work.
I don;t want to throw my phone away. Can anyone help?
Thanks

The first flash went 'wrong' becuase ODIN kept getting stuck at the setupconnection stage.
I learnt that removal of the SDCard and SIMCard was the route to fix this, but having fixed it, i flashed it with the stock ROM as detailed in the first post.
Thanks
Hi.
Firstly. If the phone will not response if you put the charger on it the bootloader seems to be dead.
Maybe a possibility would be to use a "USB jig"
Thats not the JTAG!!
JTAG is a develover device for flashing and only the samsung support will have such jtags.
JIG (for USB) is a resistor soldered to the usb connector.
You can buy that usb jig in amazon, ebay or do it yourself.
May you can switch the phone into download mode with it. But no guarantee..

Thanks

Hm why did you flash Vibrant firmware? If you don't have vibrant of course it doesn't work..and if it contained bootloaders your phone is probably hard bricked (assuming vibrant had different bootloaders from i9000). But if you only flashed ROM then you have good chances of recovering it with jig..let's hope it works
Sent from my CM'd SGS
Does a "hard brick" mean it is proper dead?
I could have sworn i got that last firmware file from a samsung galaxy s forum?!
When flashing with proper firmware ("Cyanogen") will the flash re-write/fix the bootloaders? Or to put it another way... what options do i need to select in Odin?
Thanks
Jig Doesn't Work
Hi... sorry to self bump like this.
I bought a JIG off ebay, plugged it into the phone and sadly the phone did nothing.
Does that mean that the phone is ultra-dead, and there is NO HOPE?
I don;t want to throw it away mommy!
Could the battery be flat?
***Edit - I used the jig on a friends Galaxy S and the phone went into download mode ok. But it does not on mine.
If windows doesn't even recognise the device in any capacity at all... doesn't that mean Game Over? Surely any solution now would still require windows to see the device?

was there any sign of life from the phone before?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
If you have a i9000, that's not a vibrant, and I think that rom you flashed probably contains bootloaders (since it's meant for recovery). Did you select phone bootloader update in odin?
You could try borrowing a battery/charging the one you have, it might be flat, hence why you can't turn on the phone at all. (Maybe vibrant bootloaders have some similarities). Also try check if vibrant has alternate ways of getting to download mode
Lastly, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330491
Thank you
I have tried using the JIG on a battery that is full, and i still get zero response from my phone.
The link you gave me looks at first glance to be quite complex, but seeing as it is dealing with hardware, it looks like it might work.
Cheers
J
If you open the firmware file with 7Zip, you'll be able to check if it contains bootloaders. Look for bootloader.bin and sbl.bin, if I recall correctly.
Also, what was the battery at when you were flashing? I remember accidentally flashing a Vibrant ffirmware when I first got my i9000m (due to the box saying "Samsung Vibrant", duh) and I distinctly remember my phone losing the ability to charge the battery. If your battery died, there's a good chance that nothing is happening because of this, even when you plug your phone in.
Your best bet sounds like getting a USB jig, I'd say. But check to see if the file you flashed contained bootloaders. If it didn't, it's probably something similar we've overlooked. If it does contain bootloaders, you may have bricked your device.
Use UnBrickable Mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330491
This allows total resurrection regardless if you've damaged your bootloaders or not. You just need to mod your device once and then you can upload Download Mode from then on!
If you'd like, I can perform the mod. I ask for $30 + shipping (usually $6 unless you're overseas). Send me a PM if you need me to do it.
There is no better option than UnBrickable Mod. If you have JTAG performed, then you've got a working device one time. If you do UnBrickable Mod, you can ALWAYS upload Download Mode by removing the battery, plugging it into the computer and pressing the "Download Mode" button on the resurrector I created.
SBL.BIN file located.
Oh deary deary me... the firmware DOES contain an SBL.BIN file :-(
Sadly, i tried all softbrick button pushing solutions on a friends FULL battery. But this had no effect either. And i have already bought a USB jig, that does nothing on my bricked phone, but DOES work on another GalaxyS. This might be the battery though.
Having never soldered anything in my life, i am reticent to start on the hardware hacking side of things if there is another option. But the longer this goes on, the less and less likely it sounds like another option is available.
For Sparta?

Sounds like AdamOutler is your solution for this one.
i have the same issue!!
i have the exact same problems and it happened right after i installed clockworkmod through odin and then i tried other suggestions until i used a eugene file and once i did that, it completely murdered my phone and its become completely unresponsive.. BUT i noticed that even though the screen wont come on or anything, THE BATTERY ACTUALLY STILL CHARGES! plzzzzzz help
I know this thread is a little old now... but i just wanted to say a big huge THANKS to MOBILETECHVIDEOS.

Note 5 Broke itself for no reason, won't boot to Android OS

Just looking for opinions. I have a stock note 5, no jail breaking or weird loads. Just a run of the mill Note with way too many candy crush saga apps. We weren't even using it a couple days ago when it turned itself off. Reboot just got it stuck in an endless boot cycle. Loading normal or safe mode gets you the android 'no command' blue screen of death.
I figured maybe bad update...possibly load new firmware. Samsung's smart link application doesn't work, as apparently I don't have a S/N, it doesn't exist and you need that for smart link. (It's not the IMEI.) Anyway, Samsung over the phone told me to try a best buy samsung rep, they'd flash it for free. I thought that sounds safe. But they couldn't get it to recognize my phone....Verizon won't help me, I'm past the year warranty. But still owe too much money to pay it off and get a new one through them...That leaves flashing it myself with Odin. So I did. It went ok, it said it PASSED, the phone rebooted....It started a little config in what looks to be a factory reset type screen...it got to 'erasing', refresh arrow spinning to show me it was going, then it just stops. The world stops and no amount of letting it sit every gets it to go again. Rebooting still has 'no command' and no signs of life.
Any thoughts on what might be going on? Anything else to load or try? The phone's no good to me ****ed, so I'm open to suggestions. Likewise, does it sound like any hardware related things? Is there any hope? would love to hear a first impression from someone more experienced with phones and Android.
Try flashing the latest stock firmware in Odin using "Nand erase all" ticked under options..
Let us know how it goes..

Same Problem it looks like. Odin does it's thing for about 3 minutes. Says 'PASS'. Phone restarts, does some initializing bar moving stuff for 10 seconeds, it switches to 'Erasing' then the phone just stops
That's unfortunate dude.
I'm really sick of Samsung phones. They're just terrible. As someone who's had to replace their screen twice and battery three times, it shouldn't be difficult to replace the motherboard.
This happened to my NOTE 5 (SM-N920V) as well
YOUR NOT ALONE! THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY NOTE 5
I was fishing, this morning at about 7am when my phone rebooted all on its own to the same Samsung Boot Logo screen then stuck as well. NO RYHME NO REASON, I have never, ever cracked, hacked or smacked this phone either,:highfive:
"The only updating that has been done has come via Verizon/Samsung..." But none recently ...that I recall as in, the last week or so.
While I will admit doing "it" (hacking, cracking, modding,) to other android phones (Obviously or I wouldn't have a membership here). But this Note 5? No... Maybe perhaps that's why its broken now? LOL...
It does always seem that my continued membership here is not in vain though, ......
For now, I will do whatever it takes to get it back... .......next to buying a new phone or it not coming back on ever.
I will share here what I did to resolve the issue. And I will without a doubt utilize "EVERY" resources here at XDA-DEVELOPERS to do it, and happily without the help of Verizon or Samsung.
So far I have determined that my Note 5 version is not commonly referenced here which is: the SM-N920V (Verizon U.S)
Thank you XDA-Developers this is why we need informational communities like this in our lives! :victory:
Even though I may still go nutz during this repair... if it happens.... Wish us luck!

might be bad emmc look into booting from sd card not possible on all devices but may be a start,I had a note 4 do the same thing and most def was bad emmc
Unfortunately, my sd card is internal on the Note5 the unique thing is the Note5 does not have an pop of back plate that covers the battery as, like previous versions which allow the back cover to be removed easily, I mean yeah I can take this thing apart, but its not conventional.

What you need to do is in Odin options... Uncheck auto reboot. Find the exact .PIT file for your model and put it in odins PIT spot and ignore that it says it's for developers only just add the PIT anyway and in options again where you unchecked auto reboot make sure you check NAND erase all and then add your firmware and after odin flashes it and finally says PASS then disconnect the phone and then hold the volume down button and power button at the same time and when the screens turns off let them go and as soon as it comes back on select nothing but factory reset and when it gets into the recovery mode if it list options and you see factory reset a few lines down use the volume down button to move down to highlight the factory reset option and hit the power button and on the next page again go down to YES and hit the power button again and then let it finish and reboot and least give the phone a good 20 minutes after it's rebooted to get itself setup and to the point where you can start setting it up the same way you did the day you turned it on for the very first time.. Let me know if this works and don't skip any steps.

The newer Samsung's do not use eMMc they use the newer UFS 2.0 which is why the note 5 and S6 never got micro sd slots. I could be wrong here but I don't think so.

Well ****, we're worse off than when we were before. I don't know if this in indicative of a hardware problem, but now that the battery has had time to drain, I plugged it in and left if for a day, but any time the cord is plugged in the phone is stuck in an infinite no command/reboot loop, and I can't get to download mode with up arrow + home + power like I could before. With the phone unplugged it has no life whatsoever.
Could this be a battery issue the whole time?

So When it was plugged in to my comp it would not go into download mode...If I unplugged the cord, it would not turn on.
I got a wall outlet charger instead, with that plugged in I could get to download mode, and when I tried to turn the phone on without the wall charger it gave a 'battery 0%' warning...
Anyway, I got it to down load mode, unplugged the wall charger, moved it to the comp and did the flash with the pit file...Odin said it passed. I restarted the phone, picked factory reset. It installs a few quick things, goes to 'erasing' and after about 20 seconds, freezes, same as last time. Now it's back to no command

How long did you let it sit there? Do the factory reset again and let it sit there for a little bit and see if it eventually goes. If not boot into recovery again and read to see what version firmware is listed.

It kicks itself off and goes to a 'no command' after the erasing screen gets stuck and quits 'twirling' for awhile. I don't know how to see a firmware listing. I can't get to a recovery mode(using that terminology to google some screenshots, I don't have that). The phone boots to maintenance mode only...any option I pick there goes to no command. I can use the vol down + home + power to get into download mode so it will be seen by the pc. That's about it
