[Q] [HELP] - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have unlocked my G1 to use with my AT&T SIM card, and sometimes, my friends text me saying that they called me a few times and I didn't answer, but my phone has not rung at all. So I was curious and called my phone with a few of my friends' phones, and it does not ring sometimes. Out of 13 different calls, only 3 of them rang on my phone. I think texting works perfectly fine though. Can someone please help? Thank you!

I can't help you right away but I can guide you to a thread where people are discussing similar problem and trying to find an answer.

if you are using a Tmo G1 on the ATT network, then I believe it will be EDGE only. I could be wrong, but I thought that EDGE didn't allow simultaneous voice and data. Maybe you've got something running in the background and it's blocking the voice calls. Try turning data off, just phone only and see if it works.

I don't think that it works like that. Voice calls should still come through, but data will be blocked when it does. This is because the network doesn't provide enough bandwidth to support both at the same time.

Poor voice clarity

I have been using the 8925 for about 3 weeks now. On occasion, my phone will act as if I have a weak signal. Choppy voice etc., on both ends even when connected to a landline. The signal strength will usually have at least 2bars, W/ 3G displayed. The phone will play audio & video W/ out chopping or skipping and this doesn’t always occur in the same area, so I'm unsure what would be causing this. Any comments or advice (pertaining to my issue ), would be greatly appreciated.

what network are you on are u using a sim or a usim
how old is your sim
do you have a spare handset to try your sim in?
have u raised this with your carrier? any known site issues in your area
have you tried manually roaming to see if this fixes the problem?
yea mine is also kinda poor too.
i have a cingular 3g sim card, i can put it in my sda and get full bars, but with this i get 2 bars most of the time.
they say this happends when your phone is connected to 3g and phone at the sametime. try turning off the 3g and initiating a call again
Turn off 3G?
I appreciate the replies.
1. I am on the At&T network
2. Sim
3. No spare phones to sim swap

Since I am located in a major city, 3G is on all the time. Shouldn't the device automatically make voice a priority over data once a call is made or accepted W/ out the user having to shut it down? Let alone having to tell the person on the other end; "Let me call you back, I have to turn off the 3G so my calls won't sound like shizit."

**Update**
At&T told me they performed an over the air sync to my device. So far, I have not sen any improvement. I've even tried to shutdown the data before talking on the phone. Now AT&T is telling me to return the phone, since I only purchased it on Nov. 14th and they now believe the device is faulty.

Here we go again
This is my second 8925 now & still the same thing W/ chopped up conversations, even when I have full bars and am making calls to landlines.
I have tried to disable the 3G prior to calling etc. Also, this never seems happen in the same area, so I don't think it's a coverage issue.
Is anyone else having this problem on the at&t network?
Thanks,
Tobe
I was having alot of the same issue until I upgraded my tilt to xda live 1.2 is current version. The new radio in that rom made a big difference in my neighborhood.

Umm ok, but did the xda live 1.2 rom improve the voice clarity as well?

Incoming call while on internet

I was wondering is there a setting on the TyTN II that I can set to make calls my first priority. When I'm using the internet on my phone, no calls can come through. My service provider said the calls should come through while going onto and said it's probably something I set on my phone that isn't letting the calls get through.
So.. is there a setting I can set to be able to receive calls while using the internet? By the way I'm using EDGE network, not 3G
i believe you have to be using 3g to be able to receive incoming calls while using the internet

hmm.. I thought so, but the representative said the calls should come through, so I was just asking to see if it really is possible.
Surf the internet on EGDE mode. Dissable 3G then you will be fine. That's another side (dark or bright, you grade it) of 3G beside of drainning battery.
FYI, you can place a call while surfing internet on 3G mode.

I know I'll be able to make calls through 3G while surfing the net. But T-mobile USA currently only has the EDGE network. So I was wondering is there anyway to make calls able to get through while I'm surfing the net. Because a lot of people has been complaining that they can get a hold on me.
I have a similar question.

yup, you can
Actually I got a question that's somewhat related.. Calls do come through when I use 3G/HSDPA connection.. however, if I pick up - connection terminates... isn't HSDPA supposed to let you talk and use internet at the same time?
when im using gprs i can reeive calls but it kicks off my gprs connection - very annoying - so i guess this isnt a fully fledged device capable of both at the same time - there are three types right, 1 2 and 3?
if your phone is locked to wcdma in the network settings then yes, you can browse the internet and recieve pictures,.
I have found that when the phone is set to Auto selection, it always drops back to gsm to carry the phone calls (maybe this is network dependent), which while on gsm calls, the data connection is suspended.
Not all ROMS offer this functionality, I can confirm the the original HTC ROM for the kaiser does!
One thing you can do, and I know its kind of a round about way, but.... I use callwave.com for my voicemail, and have messages and missed call notifications send to my phone via email. With direct push set up. Now if I and downloading something or loading a web page and a call comes in, it goes to voicemail immediately and even if the caller just hangs up without leaving a message I will get the notification while online. Also if they DO leave a message I get a email with the content of the voicemail roughly typed out so I can see what the call is about and who called without ever having to disconnect the internet unless I need to call them back.
I know this isn't really what you are talking about, but its better then not even getting a missed call notification because you are online, or not getting voicemails until you disconnect.

Since no one is answering your question directly the answer is no.
If you are on the net, edge will send you to voicemail. The only way around it would be to roam on AT&T in 3G.
Edge was never really "designed" for what we are doing now with phones.

I'm already using callwave, but the thing is that my emails aren't coming through to my phone sometimes, push email doesn't work at all.
i use mail2web for my exchange email, i did have a problem for a bit while i was using wap.cingular, i am on at&t and i have pda connect unlimited (lowered to $30 per month now BTW, you have to call to get the lower price) and i switched to isp.cingular and have no problems anymore, emails come in about 5 sec after the caller hangs up

But AT&T has their 3G network, I'm using t-mobile which doesn't

3G "network" not working on my phone.

3 weeks ago my 3G connection stopped transferring data.
I can get a 3G signal, make calls in and out on it, but if I want to use any app that requires a net connection, or the phone browser, I have to put it on the 2G/Edge network.
I've..
Uninstalled all my apps. Reset my phone to state it was in when bought new. Pulled the battery numerous times. REbooted the phone. Used my phone side by side on someone on same carrier, T-Mobile, while their 3G connection would work, mine would not. I finally waited for Android 2.2 update, and my 3G data capabilities on this phone are still not working.
Time to call HTC for service?
Best way to get questions answered is to post them in the proper Q/A section. This area is for news and tips only.
Harvey you tried using the web browser? What does it say?

[Q] home service calling

I'm currently at my girlfriends house have WiFi on and I noticed for a brief second or two under the phone icon it stated "home phone service" no idea what this means or does. I'm guessing that when I can't get a cell signal the phone uses the WiFi signal as a way to make calls? If anyone has insight on this I'd like to know.

I've seen that a couple of times and I'm not sure what it means either. When I'm in "cellular" mode, it says "T-Mobile" and Wi-Fi says "Wi-Fi Calling".

Interesting! WiFi calling is a long-standing T-Mobile feature - basically, you use WiFi to make calls from places that you don't have signal, but it still comes out of your minutes, not your data allowance - but I wasn't aware that WP8 supported it. What models of phone do you have?

I have the Lumia 521. Mine came with it pre-installed, but I understand that some people have had to run a system update first.

[Q] Issues with Google Now/Search

Hi All,
I am wondering if someone else has seen this. I am having problems with my HTC One Dev Edition on the latest 4.4 update with an AT&T sim card.
What is happening is I can't use Google search through Google Now or through the search bar. Going to the Google.com website works fine. It works fine on WiFi.
If I swap my AT&T SIM into a different Android phone, it works fine and if I swap a T-Mobile SIM into my HTC it works fine.
I've already double checked my APN settings with the other working Android phone, and I don't see any issues there.
Has anyone seen this issue?
No one has seen this issue?
This seems to be affecting my gmail accounts as well. Messages sit in "Sending" status until I connect up to a wifi network.
What is frustrating is that it does work sometimes; but most of the time it doesn't.
I tried a factory reset on my phone, and that didn't fix it. I will probably try to RUU to a different firmware if I can't figure this out. Not having access to Google services really defeats the purpose of having an Android.
The most frustrating part is it works fine with a T-Mobile SIM, and my AT&T SIM works fine in a different device. But I want to use my AT&T SIM in my HTC One!

I don't have a definite answer for you, but this reminds me of a problem I had with a Nexus 4 and a HTC One X, using HSPA+. They had a huge latency when sending outgoing data. So sometimes outgoing messages would be sent immediately, but other times there would be a delay of up to five minutes. Is it possible the phone's hardware isn't working well with AT&T's cell network? Some software can compensate by timing out and re-sending data, but other apps will just not work.
