Hello,
I rooted my phone due to issue with wifi to take care of it and fixed by rooting deleting one of the file associated with wifi.
But now when I connect my phone Kies give me "this device's version cannot be updated" error. I think rooting caused this issue.
I unroot, reset to factory, and cleared the cache but it's still showing "this device's version cannot be updated".....
Anybody know what's causing this and know how to fix this issue? I've search all over on google but no luck.
Please help!

All i9000THKTTTT Users,
I have finally fixed the "this device's version cannot be updated" error.
First, I uninstalled kies then download the kies from the link below.
samsungmobile.com.br/suporte/samsung-mobile-software.do
Choose Galaxy S then you should see program version available.
Download the program and update the program within kies.
This should fix the issue.
Let me know how it goes....
Only the latest KIES version does the update. The older version would say "this device's version cannot be updated". Thus, no need to uninstall/install, just update to latest version. At least for me.
I also had the same message and to fix it downloaded the latest kies version without uninstalling the old version.
Note my xp home computer now has problems connecting to kies since i upgraded but my windows 7 ultimate computer works like a dream.

mystery solved
I've bought my sgs from Orange Poland, and I updated it to froyo, but update brought me nasty lag bug... after update procedure, kies told me "this is the latest firmware".
so I've decided to debrand my phone in Samsung's authorized service, because my in fw version number info in kies I had (IDE) at the end.
service fixed the lag problem they put me on 2.2 fw from 2010 nov. they promised me that they debranded my phone, I asked them, would I be able to update my phone via kies later, they said, sure you will be able
after I got home I connected my phone to kies, and I saw an info "This version of the device cannot be updated." WTF, I thought something is not right... but update to 2.2.1 was nowhere near and I had better things to do
today I solved a mystery (because samfirmare twitted about new 2.2.1 rollout in kies ) what exactly "This version of the device cannot be updated." means...
my new firmware from service was XEO not IDE "brand", but in kies I saw IDE... kies cant update when CSC in firmware does't match this one in *2767*4387264636#
and here is the bummer, service did not run preconfig, and did not changed my CSC code in *#272*IMEI# I had IDE in preconfig, I've change it to XEO, and afrer phone reboot and data reset, now kies is saying "this is the latest firmware" with (XEO) at the end.
now, Samsung roll this 2.2.1 update please I am ready

How do i change that value?
I have the Samsung Galaxy Europa (GT-I5500) and I'm trying to update to 2.2 and Kies is saying that this version of the device cannot be updated. It's really annoying me and I really want OFFICIAL 2.2 on my phone. Any thoughts?
Current firmware version:-
PDA:JJ6 / PHONE:JG3 / CSC:JJ2 (XEU).
On about phone:
2.1-update1
Baseband Version: I5500XWJG3
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-perf
[email protected]#1
Build Number: ERE27.XWJJ6
Please help as I really want to update my phone!
None of this flashing lark as I haven't a clue how to do it and I'd need step by step instructions etc and I want the legitimate 2.2 Android firmware.
Could I hand the phone to a Samsung mobile center?
If so how much?
Could they update to 2.2?
Is it free?
Is there a fault with the firmware?
Current firmware version:-
PDA:JP9 / PHONE:JP9 / CSC:JP9 (TPA).
On about phone:
2.2.1
Baseband Version: I9000RUBJP9
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
[email protected]#1
Build Number: Froyo.UBJP9
Please help as I really want to update my phone to the latest firmware please help.

Are you in thee UK or Ghana? If in the UK then your phone should be XEU as it is unbranded. Open Kies make sure it is updated to version 102 (Kies that is) then connect the phone and check for firmware update. You should be offered JPY. Back up all your Data before updating just in case it is deleted.
i live in london but i am on holiday with my family in ghana i am using a different chip while i am here firmware 2.2 baseband i9000xxjpp kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 build number FROYO.XXJPO when i get back to london i will switch back to t-mobile i have also trouble with kies i will also factory reset after update
so i have froyo odin one click version running on my phone right now which is [email protected] im from canada and im with rogers and im trying to use kies to update it back to rogers 2.2 stock but when i connect it says its not supported by my device. anyone know what i need to do to get it to the new 2.2 rogers os. my phone is rooted and it does recognize my phone just says it isnt supported which is messed up
When you flash a rom that is not made 100% for your device what happens sometimes is your product ID gets changed in the process. KIES will try to read this and your build.prop to determine if there is an update available for your device. The US Galaxy S devices are not supported by the full KIES program. We are forced to use KIES mini to do our updates. Because you flashed an AT&T based ROM your version of KIES is seeing your phone as a US version. There is a Odin flashable version of the 2.2 Rogers in the development forum.
thank you so much for the quick response! hopefully the rom is tested and working great
Hi,
I have the 1.5.3_10124 version of Kies
When i connect the usb, everything goes fine.
but then it shows:-
Model Name: GT-I9000
Current Version PDA:JP6 / PHONE: JP2 / CSC: JP5
This device's version cannot be updated.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
I just can't believe people still rely on kies and get confused and mad because there wasn't an update or something. Get the last version of kies and try with it. If there is no update for your operator then kies won't find an update. Even if there are gingerbread updates for other countries there may be none for yours, so you can wait for weeks to get one. All of you should realize how useless kies is and that if you want new updates only from kies you should be patient (it might take quite some time), you shouldn't get angry and you shouldn't make new threads about how come kies didn't find new updates for your device's version.
Then you can download Odin and start using android the way it was intended - like an open source OS and not a closed dependent one relying only on Samsung and kies.
Just use Odin and flash the new rom
[Q] GT-I9000 - Gingerbread; Baseband Unknown; Signal Icon is "Prohibited", no service
Hello,
I am working on a phone for a friend, which requires a firmware upgrade. I have roughly a week to get this done, or my friend won't be happy (I loaned them my daily driver phone).
I have a Samsung Galaxy S (Model GT-I9000) that I odin'd from Eclair (2.1) to Gingerbread, Android 2.3.6, package title "XWJW1". Originally, ODIN failed due to some careless error on my behalf. But after some careful examination and configuration, I managed to get ODIN flashing Gingerbread to the phone.
What I am missing though is a modem.bin (baseband) or a modem package that is compatible with Gingerbread. I suspect that the Galaxy S I have now is looking at the baseband from Eclair 2.1 and not communicating with it since it is too old.
The baseband version ID shows "Unknown", and the signal icon has a circle with a line on it, more like a prohibited sign.
Could someone please assist me in finding a baseband that will fix this issue? I would appreciate a timely response.
Cheers!
Nevermind, figured it out myself, had to update the modem using the correct baseband.
Friend is happy.
I am precisely having the same issue. Can you plese let me know where you downloaded the modem.bin for baseband.
