For some reason, the process of mediaserver has taken up 49% usage. It wasn't like this before. I honestly don't know what I did to cause it. It drains the battery really fast. Anyone else experience this or know how to remedy it? Thanks. I'm on Geo's frf91 version 6.1 ROM.

I have had same problem since some days ago. Extremely annoying and rendered the phone unusable. I tried switching to MIUI, and to latest CM6 nightly and nothing seemed to help. I found after some Google searching that it could have to do with some media om the SD card that is corrupt. I removed the latest photos I've taken and it seems to have solved the problem.

So I looked today to find that my phone battery drained ridiculously fast. I've looked around and I know that this is connected to data, however I don't know a way to track down what app is causing this. Anyone have any tips/tutorials on how? I looked through the apps in the data usage section however none were actually using background data. I have 45min of screen time right now. If it helps I'm running trickdroid 8.0 with stock kernel.
Hey everybody on d XDA Forum. I recently sold my Xperia U for this S3 LTE. I receive uograde to 4.3 but after i upgrade the battery life very bad. I need a way to solve this. If not i go back to xperia u and no more samsung for cause same thing happen to me with galaxy y
I noticed too an higher battery drain since the update... I tried to freeze all samsung bloatware, to block system sync but it's nowhere near the screen time I could get under 4.1.2
See multiple posts and see 4.3 battery post above this one .
It's a problem many people are facing...
Well, this a problem apmost every smartphone user is facing nowadays. While Smartphones have gotten better and faster with the passage of time, the battery lives have gotten worse.
But male sure to turn off Wifi,Bluetooth,GPS,3G/LTE when not using them.
Using apps like Greenify and battery doctor may help improve battery life as well.
I oppened a thread about this battery issue. It seems like this drain is given to samsung blot apps, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615463
Battery drain caused by different issues different apps installed by different users. Install greenify and wakelock checker and u will know what apps are using or running in the background. For me it was mx player once. Then i reflashed another rom it was facebook and activesync email. So trial amd error urself. Thousands are saying battery is better then 4.1.2 so cant be the rom. Cheers

:good:agreed. Betterbatterystats & wakelock detector can really helps to find the drain problem. Then, use greenify & tasker. Nice combo.
Hey I have it with media server keeping my wife's i9305 awake.
After searching a bit. We found that it was ext SD. We formatted the card and it seemed good for a day. Now its back.
She has the dbt German official 4.3
Anyone having that issue? If not what firmware did you use to get to 4.3

happened to me before. Instead of disabling media scanner system app, you can install Rescan Media app by aditya.

Hi guys,
After updating from a March nightly to the latest Cyanogenmod nightly I've been experiencing the worst batterylife I have ever had!
I mean, seriously. Charge it up at night, place it by my bed and it's completely dead in the morning!
So it loses 100% battery overnight, with no usage whatsoever
I've tried beanstalk (Also Cyanogenmod based) and experienced the exact same issue. A full wipe and a brand new Cyanogenmod update and it's exactly the same.
I really can't return to stock as I'm making use of a lot of Cyanogenmods features.
The wakelocks are:
As reported by BetterBatteryStats:
Msm_hsic_host
And also a msm_camera wakelock poped up at the top of the list once.
Needless to say "Android OS" tops my battery usage screen with over 90% usage
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Anyone know a fix?
I'm basically without a phone right now

I've got the same issue here, but for me it's caused by Google services. At times my battery drains within 4 hours, even if I don't use the phone.
But at some times (most of the times) the phone just acts normal.
Before 4.3 I never had this problem, waiting for 4.4, hope that my problem will be gone. Else I'll just go back to 4.2
Aha! Success!
I have found the issue, I'll post it here if anyone else is having the same issue. Not sure if it'll help you though Dsteppa as your problem seems slightly different to mine
Although I would recommend "freezing" google maps as a starting point. See if that helps! Many android devices suffer from a similar problem, chances of it helping you is about 70%. If you're rooted it's relatively easy to do using apps from the playstore
Msm_hsic_host is used to "mount" the 3g modem as a usb device.. At least that's what I've gathered from various sources. Some phones have a kernel issue which stops the modem from being "unmounted" when data sending/receiving has been completely and thus drains the battery.
Turns out Msm_hsic_host was working as intended. It was actually an app which was apparently steaming data in real time, forcing the 3g modem to remain at full power and preventing the phone from sleeping. The unusual thing is that this app claimed it only consumed less than 3% and didn't even show on Better Battery Stats!
Uninstalling the app instantly solved my battery power issues! So for anyone experiencing similar issues, check for any apps which could be using "realtime" streaming; Such as third party Twitter / Facebook or even Email apps.
Hope this helps!

I tried disabling so much features but still can't seem to fix it.
PS:
Not using any music on my phone, the only thing i do is accepting photos on Whatsapp and making some.
I've placed a SD card before in this device but removed it because i've read something about battery draining sd cards.

I had the same problem with all mj5 roms I tried to some degree or another. The only thing that made it better was xnote v.7. The media drain is non existent for me on xnote.

Even though i removed the SD card the Media drain remained.
I wen't back to factory reset and didn't had the media drain anymore.
After the reset i also didn't placed my 5000 photo's back on the phone so this could be the issue also.

I never really figured it out. It didn't resolve when I changed SD Cards, however I did put back a lot of my stuff. My wife's note 3 doesn't have the same problem on any rom I put on her phone. The only difference I can tell is I still have MI9 as the base with the corresponding modem, while she is MJ5. That is my current theory as to what causes it, but I don't want to upgrade mine to MJ5.
Anyway, Xnote solves the problem, even if I prefer other roms a little bit more. My battery doesn't drop seemingly at all unless I am actually using the phone.
Hi everyone, pretty much my first post on here (second in all honesty) after reading hundreds of post into flashing/installing a custom ROM. I have always ran stock Samsung but with root, but I wanted more and I was fed up with Samsung and other rogue apps causing wakelocks (kind of became an OCD thing trying to get rid of them). Was determined not to ask for help with so many threads saying the same thing, so I just too the plunge and thought fk it yolo and flashed CM10 onto my device.
Didn't really have a clue what I was doing but got there eventually. Used CWM and downloaded what I thought was the only stable version of CM. I scared myself at first as it was just stuck on the CM boot, did a bit of reading and forgot to do the factory reset and wipe, did that and it all ran smoothly.
After spending hours of fiddling last night, I'm now wondering if it's worth getting CM 11 or should I stick to 10? I barely use anything complicated on my phone, solitaire is about the only game that I play, main thing is just battery life and phone functionality and internet browsing. Also are there any settings that I should be looking into?
I always ran one power guard with stock rom, but after installing it onto CM I found it was causing the phone to never enter deep sleep, uninstalled it and it's pretty good now, has anyone else experienced this? Does CM have pretty good built in battery management or should I look at getting some kind of task killer/battery management software? Couldn't risk leaving it unplugged last night to check battery as my gf needed the alarm for this morning and didn't want to risk it going flat in the night and getting an earfull from her
Thanks in advance for any tips/help.
First of all, you need to know what causes the battery drain in our smart phone no matter what ROM to are in.
They are mainly 3things. 1. Data usage, 2. Screen brightness and 3. GPS. So if you turn off data, turn the brightness down and turn off GPS. You will get pretty good battery performance in all Roms.

for the moment stay with stable CM10...in CM11 are a lot of bugs...today it's working nice...tomorrow it's unusable...
no need for 3rd party software for battery saving...all ROM's have ok battery life...but on stock is a noticeable difference.
Thanks for the replies. After leaving the phone idling for most of the morning I've noticed it's not sleeping. BBS is showing KWL is mdm_hsic_pm0
I've been trawling the net trying to figure out what it is, but everything I've read turns into a dead end. In the android battery stats it shows as Android OS. If i reboot the phone it seems to put it back in check, but obviously I don't want to be rebooting my phone all day!
Got very minimal apps running so it's really confuddling me.
Cheers in advance
