i was restoring to jf6 with the one click downloader and halfway through the phone turned to a bluish black screen. i let it sit here for 10 min but the restore had stopped so i unplugged it and took out the battery and then tryed to turn it back on and nothing happens. Has this happened to anyone else?
Your phone is bricked. This happened to me about a week ago. Had to take it to the att store for a replacement.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
it is NOT bricked. if you read around the forums there are several posts about this. but the gist is put it back in download mode (same as always) and you will be fine.
And yes I know this works, I had the same issue myself a few weeks back.
yep. not bricked.
i had a green screen the other day. i was in the middle of a one click restore and all the USB ports stopped working on my desktop (office PC). Used the USB+Button method to get back into download mode and everything worked
the problem is when i plug it in and try to go into download absolutely nothing happens i dont even get that computer ! phone screen

I know what you're saying. When this happened to me the phone was completely dead. It would not turn on no matter what I tried, and I tried every method I could find in XDA. There was no fixing it, so I had to return it for a new one.

i just went thru a problem with a broken power button. long story short i claimed my warranty and got a refurb. the refurb had 2.2 on it. like a jerk i thought it would be fine to use this guide ( https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1ItSONRa9nzI7MKeKqwIdHCTRA3RRiOM_6LcJGnK4p6Y ) just like i did with my previous phone to get miui back on my phone. i had to downgrade to 2.1 on my old phone but for some reason i thought it would be fine to use the 'safe froyo base' with my already froyo phone...
anyways i got as far as odin saying it was setting partition and it would go any further. no option but to unplug and try again. before trying i tried to boot and take a look at kies. the phone wouldnt boot. just a black screen. so.. i went ahead and tried odin again since i could still get into download mode. it still hung at the same spot. pulled the plug again and put it into download mode and got the great idea of using 1-click to go back to 2.1 stock. then it hung after, i think the 3rd message that it spits out in the log. cant remember what it said but it was a normal msg. so i pulled the plug and tried to put it into download mode again. NO LUCK. and still doesnt boot.
SO, i have a non-booting, non-download mode, non-recovery mode, no signs of life captivate...
is it a refurbished turd or is there hope with a jig or something else?
i know, long story short
those instructions were for i9000 not captivate...
odin sometimes gets stuck on set partition and i wipes the params.lfs partition where the download mode image is stored.
ill bet you 100 bucks if you restart odin. take out your battery, put back in, hold both volume buttons and plug in usb, THE SCREEN WILL NOT come on, BUT odin WILL turn YELLOW in the first box and windows will beep that it found the device.
Odin will flash with a black screen. when the flash starts, you will see a blue bar on the black screen.
use the one click stock roms in the XDA CAPTIVATE development section.
use XDA. period.
so you're saying use the same method again? or use an odin 1-click stock. 2.1, 2.2, or does it even matter? cuz im pretty sure in my rage of panic i tried both one click and full another time and nothing happened. ive got nothing to lose by trying again tho. thanks for the reply.
edit: just tried what you said with the one click i have and no go. ran odin as administrator. dont have time til after work for the full method or a different one click. but i will definatley try.
FYI, regarding your question about a jig, I just had a similar problem (thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19581785#post19581785 I tried every option on this board and many others to get into download mode without success. The jig worked (thankfully!). might be worth trying it before giving up. as for me, no more flashing until I get Outler's Unbrickable Mod.

thanks for the reply. im gonna give it a few more tries before attempting the jig. my power has been out for the last 11 hours so i havent been able to use my pc... or anything really. lost all my food in refrigerator and freezer too .
im gonna mess with this thing a bit more to see if i can make a pearl out of swine poop.
maybe someone can answer me this:
considering what i did to get the phone into this state, if i try to exchange it and tell at&t that i just powered off and it simpy wouldnt power back on is there any way for them tell if it was because of what i did?
anyone? still searching and trying to get dl mode or at least my pc/odin to recognize the device. nothing has worked yet. im downloading sdk now to try adb. i have a feeling that if adb doesnt work then AdamOutler will be $30 richer . and i have an even bigger feeling that adb will not work.

thanks, just read it. the thing is, the phone has no signs of life. pbl or sbl seems to be borked but not possitive. ive heard that what i did shouldnt brick it like it has been bricked.
just tried using adb. couldnt even get to it after downloading sdk. there was a read me where adb normally is and said it was moved in the version i have. i tried to install it and it just said nothing was done. could create the directory. i gotta go to work now so i cant try anything else til i get home.
looks like im gonna try for another warranty claim on the grounds that i was putting my saved data from my old phone onto my replacement with kies when the power went out and my phone froze. pulled battery and wouldnt turn back on. if im denied then ill prolly pay for the unbrickable mod. might get the mod even if i get the warranty refurb. seems like a good investment. ill post the results. thanks to those who gave ideas.
EDIT 11/25: i ended up telling them that it worked fine when i went to bed and woke up 4 hours later and it was off and wouldnt turn on. the rep tried all the things i already tried while i snickered to myself and he said 'yeah its dead'. i got another refurb stock uckb2.
Please i need help with my samsung captivate, i've gone through various post and thread in all forum pertaining 2 soft brick or hard brick. What were you doing before it bricked? ie. Were you flashing something, using it to hammer nails, or mixed it up for soap in the shower?

I wanted to install cm-9-20120804-NIGHTLY-captivatemtd on the device. Actual the installation was successful then when i was trying to restore my backup. it now stoped in d process of installing boot sector. after which remove the battery to start again. that was when it started showing that. actuall when i press power to on it doesn't respond but it only show the display when i plug my charger or usb to computer.
I had exactly the same problem. Use a program called one-click unbrick, that will get your phone back into download mode. After that you can use odin to restore stock. Watch out though, I was very happy when this all worked and I booted into stock only to find out that restarting the phone would brick my phone even worse than it was before. Now the computer wont even pick it up at all and it is stuck in a white at&t bootloop screen when I turn it on. When it is plugged in, all I get is a grey battery that isnt charging and it will not go into download mode. I don't know what I did wrong so I cant tell you how to prevent this problem so just be careful.
A jig would likely be your best option to force your phone in download mode.
If you haven't tried it already, try flashing a stock rom using Heimdall. I've had much better luck using that program than Odin with my own phone.

droy... The problem you're describing is exactly what happened to the first cappy I had, fortunately for me, I did it within a week of getting the phone.... I took it to an AT&T service center *aaack*, they were nice enough to tell me that there was nothing they could do and that I should be able to get it sent back in. Fortunately for me, it was right around the time when the 2.3.5 stock update came out and there were a few other people that were having somewhat similar problems. To try and fix it, I tried the jig, which I constructed myself only, ran the meter tests and found out that it didn't work after trying 3 different ones. I sent it back and got another, fortunately, I haven't ran into the issue again, so I think it may just be some kind of fault on the board given that I've never read of anyone else until now running into the problem
Thanks youall, gr8 help
Hi, I read some earlier posts about same problem as mine but they all failed ad changing boot loader or something else, but my situation is different.
I was chatting with friend on whatsapp nothing unusually battery was at 35% (btw I recently installed swapper maybe this has something with problem) and phone get freeze, I wait a little and I notice it is not working at all, I waited another 1 min and tryed to pull out battery but before I done that phone turned off itself, and I tryed to turn it on again but phone won't turn on, nothing shows on display, I tryed to put it in recovery mode, download mode nothing, I tryed to connect it on charger and pc with and without battery still nothing...
Did time came to spend a few bucks to repair it or this is just software fault ?

Hi everybody,
a friend of mine got his HTC One (black) yesterday and rooted it. He flashed a proper custom ROM on it which I and another one of my work buddy use as well without any issues (InsertCoin). No further flashes done, no other custom kernels, no S-Off, no SuperCID. Just unlocked Bootloader and custom ROM.
He let the device run dry yesterday evening so it shut off itself automatically. He put it on his charger, the phone turned on, he did some surfing and installing apps from the market and set up his alarm. The phone charged over night and he was also able to switch off the alarm this morning.
He got ready for work, got into his car and wanted to switch on the screen on the one for some good tunes. But the screen stayed black.
When I arrived at work, he was a little upset and panicked a little. I thought I was able to recover the device.
After plugging it in to my work computer, the device manager just shows a unknown device called "QHSUSB_DLOAD" so I went to google and looked it up..
Weird thing is: QHSUSB_DLOAD wasnt seen yet on the HTC One (M7) as far as I can see it and it was pretty bad on the HTC One S. It means "Qualcom High Speed USB Download Mode" and on the One S as well as on the Nexus 4 this devices showed up after the bootloader got damaged or the device got stuck in that mode for good.
When plugging the device in (USB / Wall charger) the charging LED doesnt turn on at all, the capacitive buttons dont start to blink while holding down the power button as well.
This thing seems to be gone for good.
But aint it the way that we dont even have any access to the bootloader if its not an official update from HTC? Signature check and stuff? Since the device was rooted, no OTA updates were able to arrive at all. He told me that he didnt try to flash anything after we flashed the custom ROM.
Any advice on that?
Did you even try booting the device first thru hboot/bootloader or holding the power button to force a restart? If you did try connecting the device while on QHSUSB_DLOAD and execute a compatible RUU on your PC. RUU uses android's download mode to flash the ROM so it should be repaired by an RUU.
Already tried, no luck. Tells me the device has not been found.
I am sorry to hear that, man, but from the looks of it your friend now has a paperweight. I'd take it to an HTC service center and hear what they have to say regarding this; of course it will no longer be covered under warranty, but maybe they can fix it for you for a price or something.
Are you sure RUU can't find the phone? If it can't then I guess only a JTAG box can fix it so either send it to HTC for repair or have someone who knows JTAG fix it.

I saw this issue on my friend's GS3 once. It was hard bricked and there was no way to recover from what I read (at least on the GS3). I know I saw a thread somewhere here in this forum about the same issue and someone linked to a Sensation thread where there was a way to fix it but I'm not sure if it would apply to the One
Same problem - but the phone magically fixed itself!
I had the exact same problem with my HTC One as described in OP...
My alarm went off in the morning and I set off for work, my battery was low but I thought that I would just charge it when I got to work. I was playing a game (Dungelot) whilst waiting for my bus and was receiving pop up messages about low battery. When it got to 4% left I decided that I would finish the level then close the game down, but as I was just about to finish, the phone went blank...I assumed that I had naturally used up all the battery life and although peeved that I had probably lost my progress in the game, wasn't too bothered.
I got to work and plugged my phone in to charge on my computer. The computer wanted to search for QHSUSB_DLOAD drivers but I thought this must be what it does when my phone isn't switched on and it finds the device. I cancelled the search prompt and tried to switch my phone on...nothing happened.
I tried for the rest of the day, trying to force shut down the bricked phone by holding power in for 30 secs, trying to power into boot mode etc...everything! But the phone would not switch on and the only response I got from it was a little orange LED every now and again and the QHSUSB_DLOAD prompt.
After googling the prompt - I found myself here and REALLY began to sh*t my pants! I've only had the phone less than a month and felt I was tech-savvy enough to flash my phone with a new ROM (Android Revolution HD) to try and get rid of some of the bloatware. I had flashed a new ROM successfully a coupld of weeks before and everything had been fine up that point.
I went home depressed but throught i'd try to plug my phone into a proper mains charger rather than my work's old USB cable (that came with my previous HTC Desire Z) I was going to try a long night of searching the net to try and find a way where I could at least recover the photo's, Zoe's and vids of my new born son but had such a headache that I gave up and went for an early night.
I was woken unexpectedly the next morning by my phone alarm going off! I stopped the alarm and the home just went to Home screen as normal! I don't know how or why these events happened...whether it was the flashed ROM, the game I was playing, the battery running out before the phone could shut down properly, the old USB cable in my work not charging but detecting the device or a combination of all of those, but so far, the phone jumped back into life with the alarm after being charged in the mains all night!
Thought i'd share as it may just help someone else out there who encounters this!
Some phones have miraculously come back from QHSUSB_DLOAD with no explanation of why. Other than that it usually means a hard brick. You can send it to HTC, they will charge you and replace the main board, from what I've heard.

My Solution
Had the same Problem.
My Solution was to Download "HTC One (M7) Toolkit" and force Fastboot.
Pushed Power and Volume Down until Screen was Flashing.
Took about 2 minutes and the Phone was rebooting.
I have no idea what was happening. I have no idea if this helps or works for others. But its worth trying.
Sorry for my bad english.

This is some kind of mode that is enabled when you hold power on button when the device battery is completely drained. i.e. when you try to turn device on it will not boot up (Special I was connected to usb cable via PC to charge my phone NEXUS 4 when I get into this mode). I saw a similar mode where nvflash commands are executed something like APX(can't recall correctly) with Tegra 4 device (that time also I was connected with a usb cable and charging the tablet when it was completely drained!). A simple solution to quit this issue is DO not Panic and let the device get a little charge. After that boot normally with the power button. In case if it didn't try other modes to enter such as recovery or fastboot reboot commands if your device is getting recognised..
QHSUSB DLOAD means its a hard bricked phone, No amount of messing about with it will fix it, Send it to a service centre, it will probable have to have the motherboard replaced..Sorry
My device entered in QHSUSB_DLOAD mode after the 4.4 ota was installed and 30 minutes later, I was able to turn up the phone. It restarted itself like 5 times and then it was normal. Miracle..

mine spent the night carrying on waking took the charger and the green light for continued access, tried to turn it on but could not. After reading your response, I tried to hold the power button for longer. After 15 seconds the phone rang and the light came on, everything works perfect so far
Today while I was updating firmware phone gone to QHSUSB_DLOAD mode.
I am guessing it's end of road. :crying:
For some reason my xperia T won't boot up anymore. Its very strange and the second time it happened.
Previous time, after some tries with holding to volume keys while holding the power key, eventually it boot up again, but this time, it
just flashes red. Which means that it is empty. So I plug in the power cable and the red light stops flashing for a second and just turns solid red.
But then it turns off again.
Don't know what to do now. Pc companion obviously doesn't recognize the device since its off.
Last time that I actually fixed the problem, the touchscreen wouldn't work anymore, so I reflashed a very old firmware.
Then it worked again, so I installed the latest cyanogenmod, and had no problems for a few days.
I do think its a firmware issue. I think it actually has to do with the apollo app, or atleast the headphone plug being in use while the phone charges.
I was listening music while the phone was recharging, yesterday, and in the morning this happened. Last time the exact same situation.
Any Ideas? Not planning on spending money right now :fingers-crossed:
Leave it on charge for a long time and then try the hard reset.
okay. I'll try that. Already tried hard resetting few times now.

Didn't help. Left it recharging for hours, but when I try to boot it, it just gives me a red light that blinks 3 times. Maybe it is the battery or the usb,
but its still weird. Sudden death? Hard resetting still won't work..

So here it goes:
When my phone was totally unresponssive (soft and hard boot reset failed), i dissasembled the phone and disconnected the battery and what solved my problem. I didn't know it was possible until i did it myself and this is the only reason i'm telling you: it's the very last thing but it's an option!

hmm, I want to try this. I just can't figure out how to open it. I saw a dissasembly vid on youtube, but when I get the first screw out, I can't seem to snap it open.. Im getting a bit desperate. Already went to the store, and they want to charge 45 euro's for a new battery+dissasembly.
Best way is to find the plastic tool it is shown in the video. But i had none so it takes some gentle force starting from the top left and then right to the key point that is the corner . It has to snap a little. Any metallic tools will damage the plastic and will leave traces. The tool might be replaced with a guitar feather if a friend of yours has one
