I've got a contact with the owner of a company who builds custom battery chargers, currently they develop chargers for marine applications (on-board ships, subs, ect.)
if we R&Ded a charger for our phones.... perhaps even built it into a cradle... would anyone be interested?
Who's paying for the R&D and what is the MOQ?

it's my father's company. thought started out as mainly designing a better charger for myself... but depending on the results & interest, we might produce a few more.
company name is Quality Marine (www.qualitymarinechargers.com)
current model we're looking at is the HD2 (since that's the phone I got) but again... depending on results & interest, we might expand to other models.
first thing we would need to do is see the condition of the battery after a standard charge... see the limits of the battery, and a few other factors. Potentials would be better battery life (not how long a charge lasts... but lifetime of the battery) faster charge times, and potentially other factors... (as we haven't done any testing with the battery yet it's hard to say)
anyways... that's where we are at currently

Check out the one at Obostore... Cradle plus extra battery charger in one. I picked one up and it's great.
Already have it.... if you look, the output voltage on the charger is different then the stock HD2 charger (it's lower)
it's possible with the internal circuitry it could be a "trickle charger".... but I doubt it.
Also... i'm not so sure I like how the phone sits in the cradle... it feels to put the majority of the weight on the microUSB port and not on the cradle.
it's an ok cradle for the price ($20 if I recall?) but I think it could be done better.

I agree... It could be better for sure... I wish it was angled so that the phone would rest on the back of the phone and so it's not sitting straight up... The question is, is it even worth it since this is a WinMO6.5 phone? Tmobile could stock selling HD2's when the Winmo7 phones start coming in.

don't know about you... but I'm not going to drop my HD2 for something else for at least 2 years, when I'm due for an upgrade again.... Don't really feel like paying for the same phone again
And... if I've learned anything regarding MS products, you should always wait till after the first SP before you use their new stuff haha

True. I'm just thinking about this dude throwing down a TON of cash to make the MOQ on something like this and being stuck with them because the demand isn't huge... Seems risky from a $$$ standpoint.

TBH, I don't think the MOQ will really be that high.... we're only talking about a 3.7V battery after all
the concept & design will be mine... as the project will still start with making something better for my phone and as I said... depending on how it turns out, we could make more depending on results & interest.
The stock USB charger for the HD2 is already very good. I use it to charge all of my USB devices from Garmin GPS to HD2 and other things

has anyone used a 3rd party battery if so please let me know how it works. this is the only 3rd party battery i could find but it sold out at the moment and it does not give a price but when i was on about a week ago it said $78.00

The price is back up but you have to remember that it comes with the battery charger. So you get both a battery and a charger.
They are still out-of-stock but we do have some coming in by sea. This means by the end of August we should have them. However, we are considering getting some by Air. If you think you'd like to be among the first, let me know and if there is enough interest, we'll have some flown in.

I will be interested, so count me in for one
Sorry, I'm out of the office and away from the phone at the moment, is this a much higher capacity, and if so, by how much, will it be noticiably better?
Cheers.
Is it the same size as the standard battery? Can we get it without the charger?
Thanks for the info!

Awaiting your answers on the other thread. Let us know what's going on with these so we can get some orders placed, etc.
(Sorry, I was away for the weekend and didn't have internet access.)
The battery is 2400mAh while the OEM battery is 2200mAh (I think). This will give about 10% more capacity. But it does come with its own charger. I was just checking to see how many were immediately interested to see if we should wait until the ocean shipment arrives or should we bring in some by air. I will let you know soon what we decide.

So Mark, does it take up any additional space over the standard battery?

HTC X7500 VGA Cradle With Spare Battery 2200mAh
Im sorry to look like a killjoy or a spoilsport, but why paying 80$ for that battery which needs a specific charger (as from what I understood)
when for 71€ you can buy this superb HTC X7500 VGA Cradle With Spare Battery 2200mAh.

I agree with you and it should charge in the phone and use the charger for either spare battery.
If it is like other Mugen/Lion offerings then the charger is a slot type that will charge both the OEM and the Mugen battery. It is not some proprietary offering that will plug into the Mugen. Think about it guys...it has to be pin compatible with the Athena and it's circuitry.

hi all,
I've just bought a 2nd-hand XDA iis and is battery is not so good.
So I intend to buy a new one.
But I'm wondering which bat is the best now.
I've gone to ebay and see that they have some types: original 1500 mAh, 2400mAh, "slim" 3200 mAh and "fat" 3600mAh.
I think the 3600mAh is the most suited for my xda.
Is there any better choice? Where could I buy it?
With the 3600mAh, how long would the xda would last if I use wifi IE with the lowest backlight?
Do any of you have any problems with it?
Could I use my old charger or Do I have to buy a bigger one?
Could I still use my usb-cable (not cradle) for charging my xda?
And is there any conflict with WM5? (I've just read in our forum that someone have problems with WM6).
Thank all of you so much.

I would say that primarly it would depend on if a 'fatter' and heavier phone bothers you.
Keep in mind that just about all the cases and various accessories that hold or clip on to the phone are designed for a phone that has the original battery, so a thicker battery may well make them unusable (cases are the primary example I would give).
How long it would last is impossible to say, as it depends on how you use the phone, what apps are on the phone, and so on. Also, 3rd party battery quality does vary. Which manufacture is the best, I can't say as I've never seen any place that reviews battery life.
I've never heard of any incompatibilities when talking about a particular version of win mobile and a certain capacity battery, and can't imagine that it's even possible.
Pick one and see what you get, then post the results here so the every one else can benefit from your experience.

At last, I've bought a fat 3600 battery and I think it's a good decision.
Now, I can use my fone for browse Internet in near 6 hour with wifi; or I could use it with 5 day stanby (how amazing).
some small problems are:
- the fone is thicker and heavier (no problem with me).
- My third party charger is a bit hotter.
- And the charging time is longer (ofcourse).
do not by batteries by ACME power. I have bought 2400mAh and feel no difference compare to standard old battery. Besides, I have troubles with bt. it turns off by its self with only this battery.
I bought a battery for my Htc Harrier about 4-5 months ago. Sorry i dont know the brand of it but its says its 3200mah and "replacement for XDAIII". The inside of the battery is kind of bloated out from the heat and looks a little dodgy but still works. Ive had a few problems with it where it powers off for no reason. When i turn it on again the battery charge looks fine.
Just a couple of days ago for the first time my phone just completely hard resetted and lost all my data. I again turned it on and the battery charge was fine. im blaming that on my battery.
I use my phone mainly for listening to music on my bluetooth headphones while im driving to school and for typing things out on my bluetooth keyboard at school. The standared battery that comes with the phone simply has not enough charge time to do all this.
With all its annoying problems i still use my battery. I just make sure i back up my most important things on my storage card. And charge it every night.
Soon im going to buy a HTC Blue Angel due to my countrys crappy plans that the Harrier comes with. Maybe i might buy the 3600mah while im at it.
So my advice is if you dont need the charge of a extended battery then stay away. Unless you are like me and need the extra battery power then beware of some stress ahead that it might give you.
I've ordered from this site in the past with favorable results. Shipping can take up to 3 weeks but it is free. This battery is for the Touch Pro 2 but should work with our phones.

That's a killer price... and they take paypal. Thanks Hexto!
My only question is... will adding 200mAh really make a big difference?
I was thinking of ordering one of these, too, but now I'm not sure if I need to. Ever since learning that the Calendar was causing my phone not to sleep, I have been being sure to keep that process killed. Let me tell you it has made a HUGE result. I unplug my phone around 8am every day and usually by lunchtime I have a battery that is about 40%. And that is just with moderate use.
Today I unplugged it at the same time and have been streaming BT audio to my car for about 4 hours straight. Now it's 4:30pm and the battery is still at 60%! All by just killing the Calendar process.
Hopefully HTC/Google can get that software kink worked out in the next release.
I agree. Ever since I found what wasn't letting my phone sleep, my battery life has improved tremendously. Also, now that I'm using TaskPanel, all apps that I don't need open get auto-killed when my phone sleeps. That's why I was wondering if the extra 200 mAh would be worth it, even if it is only $5. Anyone have any opinion?
I always like to have an extra battery for when I go camping or travel. Doubt 200mAh will make much of a difference but at that price I'd I don't have to even think about it. Its the price of a foot long
thanks for posting - I bought two to have as extras. They will come in handy at some point!
Where could I find an extra charger for batteries only?
Thanks.

I agree that having an extra battery could come in handy at times. I have to say I am a bit worried about removing the battery cover any more than absolutely necessary, though. With my Droid, the battery cover falls off at will, and I wonder how the Incredible's battery cover will hold up to being removed repeatedly.

I'd like to know the answer to this because DealExtreme has some kick ass prices on damn near EVERYTHING!
I don't see how this would work. Contacts seem to be in wrong place. The TP2 is different than the TP, but I could be wrong, it's been known to happen...
You would need to get the base plate for the TP2 battery to charge. Same as incredible.
Or you can do what I just did and placed 20 orders for my client for their incredible
Ebay hkcyberport
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...Category=20336&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=1
It comes with an OEM HTC TP2 battery and charger with the correct plate. It also has a USB(mini) plug to dual charge or plug into laptop.
$10.88 with battery and free shipping. I don't need it right away so the 7-10 days is not big deal.

DX batteries are notorious for being over-rated in their capacity. Plus at that price I doubt if the batteries are protected from overdischarging...explosion would be a possibility.
You can also go to eBay and type in htc incredible battery
and there will be a bundle of 2 of those with a standalone desktop charger for the batteries for about 10-15 shipped.
You can also buy a 14piece bundle with screen protectors, styluses, chargers, the above battery bundle, and a couple cases and more for about 35-40$ shipped.
Well, I just received the battery from DealExtreme. Although it fits in the slot, it will not charge or power up. Either I received a DOA battery, or it does not work. Either way, save your $5.
I'm hoping for feedback or observations on the nooks battery compartment. In particular, what are the possibilities of installing a larger capacity battery? The teardown pics have provided good info, but I was wondering if anyone who has opened their baby up has noted any....extra space. The current battery is okay but you can never have to much power! : )

As with any device of this type, you'd definitely have some hefty constraints to work within.. Most notably, the thinness of the battery. It wouldn't be impossible to rig up a different battery, but you'd most likely not be able to fit one that lets you put the case back together properly.
In my opinion, it's probably not worth the effort. If you want some more battery life, get one of those rechargeable Duracell battery packs with micro-USB connector. They're like $35 at Wal Mart. I got one to use with my Atrix if I'm away from a charger for an extended period of time.
you could always try a solar powered recharger

Seriously?? The NC gets 12 hours of runtime in full active use, and in standby it'll run almost forever (unless you have some widgets trying to stuff all the time even though wifi is off, HELLO WEATHERBUG)...
Do you really need more? More runtime, more WEIGHT?
When I got my 1st pc it had 512k of ram and a 10 Megabyte hardrive, freinds exclaimed: "damn you'll never use that much memory!" Well I did use all that memory and soon wished I had more. Hell yeah I'm serious about more power! What with running slingplayer, some serious web surfing, and a few rounds of heavy flash gaming, the Nooks current battery is..wanting. Sure the battery is fine for an email or two and maybe a few wikapedia searches, its more than most grandmas could ever want or dream of; but with current rom development running rampant the nooks abilities and uses are expanding. I'm not sure what is possible, I'm looking for observations pertaining to the interior dimensions of the nook. I remember seeing a reference (I don't think it was xda, it might of been along with one of the early tear down pick articles) where someone mentioned that there seemed to be enough interior space for some type of battery mod but there were no details. l will eventually pop it open and dig around myself but was hoping someone might have info to share.

Thanks for your reply. I 'm sure you will turn out to be right about the interior space constraints, its what my own gut feel contends. I did do some research on larger battery packs using tear down info and was surprised to find a wide range of battery capacities and volumetric formats for very modest prices. Given the nooks intended design, B&N would have sound economic reason not to pack the case with more battery than needed. We have a phone processor and larger screen, it is possible that the cases design is sized more for "look and feel" than mimimum volume. By the way how do you like the Atrix, dual core is very sexy, is it meeting your expectations?

I believe the only thing thay kept them from adding more battery was weight. I think its current weight is at the heaviest it should be for an ereader. Im currently very pleased with my battery life. Combined standby/use time is well over 8 hours.

I guess it is "possible", but it will mean cutting out the metal backframe to add room for the battery. I don't mind modding things, but that might be a bit much should you ever want to hope for service...
please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the nook color put together in such a fasion that once it's taken apart there is no way of putting it back together. I seem to remember there being people who's bezel came lose, and were required to do a return.

My NC ranges between 8% and 10%/hr usage, so that's 320mAh to 400mAh on low brightness, wifi on and semi-active, and reasonable stuff going on (not heavy gaming).

If the power source had a standard USB outlet, you could use the OE B&N cable. Most likely an external power source wouldn't have the 500 mA restriction on it's USB ports; one would have to verify of course.

Looking at the picks do you think the battery pack could be doubled up? I wouldn't rule out a some dremel work to get 2x the battery life, if the external case could remain sound. From the picks it seems there might be space where the back case curves out. It's difficult to tell the depth of the curve relative to internal components, or if any real usable space is there. I'm kinda hoping to hear from someone who has popped the case.

I'm surprised to see not much talk of this, as for me it's the biggest hang up with this awesome device (second is no sd slot). I find it extremely handy to have a removable battery because 1) I don't have to worry about being super careful about how I treat the battery as replacements are usually fairly cheap and 2) it opens up the possibility of larger 3rd party batteries. What's everyone's thoughts on this?
Sent from my 3VO
Oh there has been PLENTY of talk about this.
That's the trend, removal batteries are going bye bye. Whether it's removal or not, the important question is whether or not it is possible at all to get at the battery slot. Have to watch a few tear down videos.
The iPhone 4/4s didn't have a removable battery either per say... yet you could easily do it yourself.

No, the inductive charger must be plugged into the wall. The only benefit of an inductive charger is not having to make any physical connection to the phone every time you charge.

No, the inductive charger must be plugged into the wall. The only benefit of an inductive charger is not having to make any physical connection to the phone every time you charge.

I loved the convenience of inductive charging when I was trying out WebOS! Can't wait to have that thing on a Nexus :victory:
Guess I'll be skipping this Nexus.

Saves on USB wear and tear... I'm down! I think that the USB port is probably the weakest link in all cellphones.

Apple boasts about new Lightning connector. Google took it to the next step - no.cable.
Hands down.
lighting port was just such a terrible idea. -_-
We will have to see what real life battery life is like.
2100mha battery does not last a full day now. I tend to swap if I'm using my phone during work and need to use it at night.
Nothing mentioned in all the fancy features about awesome battery life....
Although not being able to remove the battery is annoying, I say introducing inductive charging to the Nexus line makes up for some of it.
too bad you still have to plug it in to transfer info to a computer. For that, I like the lightning port. Micro usb is annoying and so so fragile.

I know what you mean, but for some files depending on the size of them I have started to use bluetooth file transferring.
This is a huge concern for me as well. Spare batteries are cheap and you never have to worry about your phone dying.
However, the price is too good to pass up considering how it looks and the amazing specs it has.
Not to mention, on jellybean, my phones battery life has been phenomenal.

Best solution for batteries that die out during the day's usage? Buy a second Nexus 4! You know, since they're so cheap and all.
No battery removable battery and no sd card tells me hmmm maybe but its still designed by LG. Thats what i really hate. But at that price. I may buy it and use it as an ipod touch lol
