Hello everyone,
I am new to the hero and just rooted my phone using kitchen. I wanted to get an 8GB card and wanted to know what the process was. I didn't want to mess anything up so how do I change micro sd cards. I did a search but was unable to find the answer.
Are you using apps 2 sd?
If yes there is a guide
If no, then copy your data to your pc.. unmount the card(or turn the phone off) .. insert new card, format... then copy stuff back.
cool, never used apps 2 sd. Thanks! Will wait to get a new rom after.
Just remember its a mounted filesystem, if you just took it out that would be like unhooking your computer's hard drive. Probably going corrupt some data.
So just make sure the phone is off before switching cards?
i just made that mistake last night, burnt up an 8gb card, make sure phone is off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don't need to turn the phone off. Right in SD Card and Storage Settings, there's a button to unmount the SD card. Hit that button, eject the card, then put the new one in and copy all the data back on via USB.

You shouldn't have been able to burn a card doing that. Maybe confuse the filesystem on it. If worse comes to worst, reformat the sdcard.
What items on the SD card are necessary? I did the root and there are two recovery images on there. I haven't done anything else besides rooting the phone.
Sorry dumb question, rooting doesn't change when changing cards right?
Since there is an SDcard discussion. Every time I play music the songs glitch at the beginning of the track and sometimes mid song..but always at the start UNLESS the phone is awake, then it plays fine.
Could it be the class of the card or that the phone wakes up after the end of every track and glitches? I still have the stock 2 gig card and was looking to get a higher class / more capacity to swap if that is the case. if not I'll just stick to my ipod shuffle.. bleh.

Nothing on the SD card is strictly necessary. Rooting and applying ROMs does not affect the SD card.

Necessary? Nothing. The phone should run without the sdcard even installed. Some applications aren't going to like it not being there, like the camera.
New card partition question

No and no.
You only need to partition the card if you want it partitioned and partitioning it has zero to do with rooting or with applying a new ROM.

Yes, you'll need a ext partition for a2sd.

Hey there,
I have a Galaxy S I9000T outright from Telstra. I was so glad to find a Froyo/Android2.2 ROM on SamFirmware that supports Arabic very well (my native language, most ROMs don't support it well), and the upgrade also brought slightly better performance, etc..
However, since the I9000T model had only 8 GB internal SD, I also bought another 8GB SD to use as external (I don't save a lot of files saved on the phone, mostly browsing and tweeting and having few files playlist usually replaced quick).
Now, I notice the internal SD is something like 1.5+ GB used for phone storage and 5.5+ GB available to me to use. I no longer need that. Would love to increase the phone storage part to take up most if not all the internal SD storage (you know not all apps are available to move to external SD, plus it's annoying when I mount it to my computer for storage).
I know I won't be really removing it (to allow place for future use of update.zip) but at least make it as small as 1.x GB and give the rest space to phone storage.
Can I shrink the other internal SD partition (the one I can access without rooting) and increase the root phone storage without having to re-flash my happy already-configured ROM and losing any apps, etc... ?
Sorry guys, should this have been moved to a different section or so?
Sorry for a real n00b question but is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g. ROCKET ROM) on my Galaxy Note without a SD Card?
If it is, can someone please provide me with a link to a how-to/step-by-step explanation?`
Many thanks in advance!!
I think no unless you use Odin software and plug your phone to the computer while in download mode. Although roms for Odin and CWM are in different formats and not compatible with each other.
However, I heard that if you flash third party (non-stock) firmware to your phone using Odin, it will add to the flash counts, which will make your phone lose warranty (if your Note even have warranty when you imported it).
Maybe there is a way to do update through adb, but I do not know.
Also I forgot, you can install rom from internal storage using CWM Manager app.
You can use the phone's internal memory to store the ROM to be flashed. Don't really need to put it on the microSD card. Make sure you are rooted and have clockwork installed.

I'm already rooted and have CWM Manager 3.0 installed.
I also did a backup yesterday (I will do a new backup before flashing), but since the backup is on the internal memory, can I restore to the original stock rom if I don't like the ROCKET ROM for some reason?
Or will the internal memory be wiped clean if I flash the ROCKET ROM to my Galaxy Note?
Many thanks for the help!
That's fine, and you don't need to worry about internal storage being wiped. Your 16GB (or 32GB) shows up in the system as SD card. If you add a physical microSD card that will be listed as external SD. A bit confusing I know, but that 16/32GB is partitioned separately from the phones main memory (~2GB). When you flash a ROM its only the 2GB partition that gets overwritten, nothing happens to your SD card and external SD card memory.

any help here ? same question
I'd like to know this too
Hey,
I've looked through the forums but don't seem to find a definite answer. I have a rooted (with towelroot) Xperia V, with latest official nordic update.
So as we know, the big problem with Xperia V is that no matter how big external SD card you have, you cannot install APK's on it, making you run out of space real quick. The 2GB internal extended memory shows as "SD Card" to most software and the installers. Also, many apps don't let you explicitly define the location for file saves, so the 2GB will be used for caching etc on many occasions. Moving software to "SD card" in app settings as you would normally do on Android actually just moves between the internal extended memory and phone memory, but not the actual SD card.
I want to install my APK's on the SD card, and only keep minimum stuff on the internal 2GB. How do I do this? Can I make the phone not use the 2GB and instead use the 32 gig SD card I have in my phone? Can I somehow move the already installed apps to the actual SD card as well, or do I have to reinstall them?
In a reversal of what many do, I would like to repartition the internal memory of a Verizon i800 so that no external SD is necessary. As it is now the tablet requires an external SD card for apps and data. It won't leave much room internally but that's how I want it. I want to use the external sd for music and movie files only (no programs).
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks!
