Hello folks. I have a question about build numbers. I keep reading about FRF91, FRG83, FRG33, etc. builds. How can I find out what build I have. I recently bought a Nexus One in Vietnam, seems to be korean version (it has korean keyboard installed, manual is in korean). When I go to Settings -> About phone, I don't see any FRG, FRF, EPE, or whatever, just a long number. For the sake of completeness, here is what I get:
Android version:
2.2
Baseband version
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Kernel version
2.6.32.9-27227-g3c98b0d
haleyATm4-dev#1
Build number
2.15.1010.2 CL203557 release-keys
I already rooted and unlocked the phone, installed recovery image Amon_Ra's 1.8.0.1 (suitable for SLCD screen) but now I'm stuck. Don't know what updates would work (2.2.1? which images I need for my build version, etc.)
Please help - I know it may sound like a dumb question, and I tried to google for an answer and search the forum, but everyone's About phone screen seems to show something like FRF91 or somesuch, not the number I get above. Thanks!
The Korean build for FRF91 has a different build number... Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91
So, you have the FRF91 build customized for the Korean N1

Thanks a lot, I was trying to find out for days
So I checked on shipped-roms, and the name for my stock rom is PASSIMG_Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip - am I correct? Are there any disadvantages for having this (apart from having an uninstallable korean keyboard)? Do I receive updates more slowly? Do you have any advice for me - my last question(s) I promise Thanks a lot for your help...
Well, yes, PASSIMG_Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip is the stock ROM which is on ur phone. Regarding update frequency, it's possible updates may be delayed by KT (Korea Telecom), but I can't say for certain.
Thanks - at least now I know exactly what I have
One more thing that's not clear, I've read conflicting report about this: OTA upgrades through WIFI. Google says sure, it works, but I read a letter received by a user from HTC that said the opposite. Anyway, in case I can update through wifi, who releases the updates? I don't live in Korea, I'm on a Vietnamese network. If Korea Telecom releases an update, how would that reach my phone? It's all so confusing. Forgive me for my questions, I'm new to Android.

Hi,
I am glad I found this site, excellent source of information.
I have a question regarding updating firmware on the Samsung Galaxy S i9000.
My phone currently has firmware I9000XXJF3, looking over at samsung-firmware it seems that the latest version available is I9000XWJM2
My question is, will my phone be compatible with this firmware version? should I not go beyond the I9000XX releases? Languages don't mean much to me personally because I only use English (hopefully XW has it!)
If I do install I9000XWJM2 will the other 'tutorials' work for me as well? (the lag fix, etc)
Your help is appricated!
those XX doesn't mean anything related to the specificity of the model (i9000). In other words, yes, you can flash the new firmware without problems. In general you should make sure it's for i9000, but not in the name of the firmware, cause it's rather confusing. You should look for a thread of this firm and check it's for your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733368
Yes, tutorials still works!
Hi:
I bought my Milestone in India around August 2010.
I wanted to know when the 2.2 update will roll out for my device - I checked the Motorola Android Software Upgrade News page but couldn't find a Milestone for India in the list (guessing it's APAC then.. is it?).
Here are my device's details:
Firmware version: 2.1 update1
Firmware configuration version: GAS_EMEA_USASHLS00RTINT_P016
Baseband version: 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.56I
Kernel version: 2.6.29-omap1
Build number: SHOLS_U2_02.36.0
How can I find out which region my device belongs to, and how these details decide when the 2.2 build will roll out?
I would also appreciate it if someone could tell me how to find this out from the above details.
Thanks & regards!
Rampee
Check the following link. Will provide you with details.

Regarding OTA upgrade to 2.2, it will release in EU first. You can always update it manually.

you should post it in right place (Motorola Droid and Milestone General)
Thanks Silesh!
Do you suggest waiting for the OTA? What is your opinion on rooting & flashing custom ROMs to bring it to 2.2?
@sharljimhtsin Sorry, my bad

You can safely root and upgrade to a variety of custom 2.2 ROMS available. There are a few of them available like CM6, Cronos, Miui etc. I am running cronos ATM. You can get your stone back to stock anytime. Its very easy.
Though you will not get battery life as in 2.1, you will get a lot of other cool features with 2.2.
Knowing Motorola, we would be lucky if we get the froyo update in during this qtr.

Middle East & Europe supose to get thier updates by Q4 2010>
on Xmas, I read on GSMArena, that Motorola made another delay to Q1 2011.
Meaning by the end of Q4, mostly we'll have Gingerbread with the efforts of xds, GOT, Doshaka & CM.
Do not wait for it my friend, get it from here its save & awsome.
Hi guys,
After messing around with kernels and getting a non responding P1000, I managed to install from Samfirmware, what i believe is stock Gingerbread (Europe).
Everything looks and works fine, but I just want some reassurance that I've downloaded/installed it correctly.
My system details are:
PDA: P1000XXJQ1
PHONE: P1000XXJPZ
CSC: P1000OXAJQ1
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
The only reason I want reassurance is when I connect the tab to Kies, the message "this version cannot be updated" displays.
Is it the fact that this is the latest firmware, and therefore no more updates is available?
Thank you in advance and would be much appreciated and reassuring to get an answer for all you kind people.
If you have a tab that was bought throughg a specific carrier then Kies might not be able to update the firmware.
I have a GTab from Telstra in Australia and using the stock firmware I also get this message. All flashing must be done by either ODIN or HEIMDALL. CWM works so long as I don't need to restock anything....
If you do decide to change roms, make sure you check to see if the bootloaders aren't locked as some of the firmware from samfirmware were found to be resulting in problems...
Cheers...
I had exactly the same message from Kies when I tried to revert back to a stock Gingerbread rom. It seems that there isn't an official Samsung release of GB for Tab P1000 in the UK (if that's where you are) so it doesn't recognise it.
Only way I could get it to detect an official release was with a Froyo ROM.
The JQ1 was released not to Europe, but to Italy.

Yes that's right. Im in the UK. So from what i understand, only way to fully revert back and install Official gingerbread is by reverting than earlier froyo firmware and then connecting Kies thks way, then have it detect and install the newly released gingerbread?

Hi there, yeah i kinda thought the firmware i installed was the Italian release, as the date in Firmware was May, not July when the.official gingerbread was released.
Yep, that's how I understand it. However I probably will not even bother with Samsungs UK GB release as there are much better 3rd party GB options out there already. I'm running BOCA 1.5 and it is so fast - it dosn't have any Samsung apps or TouchWiz, but I haven't missed them.

Ha! Just found the XDA app, makes posting and browsing on here so much easier.
Yeah i would have thought 3rd party options would be better running as they'll omit all the bloatware that comes with the official release. I was just thinking more about the option for the future should i have any reason at all to revert back to legit stock.
There's so many recommendation on which custom Rom to install, i think I'll have to spend some time going through the forums to understand which one will be best for me.
For now, Im gonna stick with this working GB (albeit Italy release) as for now it works and I've not had any problems with doing what i want out of it.

The lastest gb released isn't UK, its for Orange Spain.
I have a Samsung 7” tablet that was purchased from T-Mobile. I have contacted both Samsung and T-Mobile to try to get an updated OS for this device, but can not get anything from either one. I get pushed off from one to the other saying it is up to the other to provide a software update. There are other users on T-Mobiles site that have the same issue and anything I could find out I will gladly pass on to help them also. There are some features on the new OS that I and others would like to have installed. Can someone please help! I use this device for my business on a daily basis and any help would be greatly appreciated. The device information is listed below.
Samsung 7” Galaxy Tab
Model: SGH-T849
Firmware: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build Number: FROYO.UVJJB
Carrier: T-Mobile
Can someone let me know the following questions:
1. What is the most current OS that can be installed on my tablet?
2. Where can I find the software and directions to install it?
3. Is there any known issues that need to be addressed after the software is installed.
4. Is there a modem driver that needs to be installed in order for the data package to work?
Thank you for your time and look forward to a reply.
David Duncan
David,
As of now, the highest OFFICIAL TMobile USA firmware is 2.2 (Froyo). There have been other official firmware released for other regions that are 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). These are updates for the GT-P1000 (International Version) rather than for the T-849 (TMobile USA Version). They are in essence the same device as I understand it with support for different wireless bands (ie. different antennas; this would be taken care of by modem firmware which can be flashed independently).
There are numerous roms available if you have a rooted Tab. Obviously stay away from any that are built for Sprint or Verizon. Overcome makes a solid rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317384) but if you are going after the stock experience I would suggest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073854 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312329. Full instructions on how to download and install can be found on the linked pages. If you are using the Tab on the Tmobile network, I would always stick with the TMobile modem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727).
Hope this helps.
Thank You,
I appreciate your response to a long drawn out issue I have been fighting with. I understand T-Mobiles firmware issues and at this point T-Mobile or Samsung are not going to release an update for this device. I have a few questions I would like to ask if you wouldn’t mind. I am new at this whole process and want to make a quality decision.
1. Is there any advantage or additional features added to the Overcome version of the OS verses the other two? I am looking for a straight forward installation without a lot of issues and some gained performance.
2. Is there any advantages of going with one of the other two stock ROMs?
3. Is Overcome ROM a newer version than the other two versions posted?
On another note I have a couple of questions you may be able to answer if you do not mind.
1. Is there any way of getting the layered applications feature from the Honeycomb OS on the Gingerbread OS?
2. Is there a browser that will allow for the websites to be displayed in Full or Desktop mode on the Gingerbread OS?
3. Do you know if there will be any builds coming out that this tablet may support? Such as Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich? I know there are some hardware requirements that may need to be addressed.
Thank you again for your time and help!
Hello,
I picked up a GT-P1000 from a friend who got this in China (GSM version) and I'm a bit confused when I read here on these forums as to which version of this tab I really have. It seems like I have the the "latin" version but this model was bought in China and when factory reset, all text is in Chinese font. I'm in the US btw, California
Back of the phone/tab model reads:
MODELO: GT-P1000N SSN: -P1000NGSMH
FCC ID: A3LGTP1000L
HECHO EN COREA POR SAMSUNG
The About Phone reads:
Model Number
GT-P1000
Firmware
2.2
Baseband Version
T959UVKA5 (Vibrant Modem???)
Kernel Version
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build number
FROYO.ZHKA1
Sooo...I'm familiar with rooting, flashing, odining vibrants as I've done this for a few years now. This tab's version just has me baffled and I'm trying to avoid bricking. I've achieved root and it's Stock Froyo right now. Kies doesn't support this device when connected so there's no way I can upgrade to stock GB with that method.
My bootloaders are signed and the only .apk that works (thanks chainfire&rotohammer) is:
SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00.apk <-----------this one works
Bootloaders- Signed
Signed: PBL, SBL_Backup, Kernel
Not signed: SBL
Assessment Can only flash SIGNED firmwares
Ready to patch bootloaders...
SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00-P1000_L_N_LATIN.apk <-------Doesn't work
(Your Device [GT-P1000] is not supported)
Sorry this is a lot to read, but I'm trying to be thorough and show my steps. After I patch this, should I use go through Overcome's guide by:
ODINing
"gt-p1000_mr.pit"
"GB_Stock_Safe_v5.tar"
"modem file according to your region" which one do I use? JPZ OR JK3? I still want to be able to make calls on Tmo/Att network
DO I HAVE EURO OR LATIN??? Anyone with a little insight that can point me in the right direction would be very helpful. Thank you again!!!

Hi,
Take a look at this http://welectronics.com/gsm/Samsung/SAMSUNG-P1000N-GALAXY-TABLET-US-3G.HTML

Thanks for the specs!
Does this mean I have a Latin Version with US 3G support?
Is it safe to say I don't have to Euro/Asia/International version, even though it's default font is Chinese?
How did the T959 Vibrant modem get in there?
