[Q] hardSpl and backup - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hihi, some question about Hard spl
Assuming that I'm already flash Hard spl and a cook ROM installed,
1. if i wanna get back to ROM and data backup-ed data by sprint mobile backup, what are that step that i should follow? Do i need to flash original HTC ROM and radio, re-flash HTC spl, then restore using sprint mobile backup?
2. Can original HTC ROM operate on Hard spl ?( on some proprietary phone using different spl with original ROM will turn the phone into brick, just asking to confirm )
3. If for warranty reason, i reflash HTC spl, the next time i wanna install a cook rom, is there a need to flash Hard spl again ?
About windows and ROM
Which version of winMo offer better memory management? 6.5.x, x mean 1/3/5 ? The current 6.5 need to be restart every 1/2 days.
Thanks for looking through my question

-If you've backed up your data from a specific stock ROM, only restore your system data to the same ROM. PIM data can be restored to any ROM.
-Stock ROM will automaitcally reflash your radio as well.
-There is no need to flash back to SSPL unless you are returning for warranty.
-If its for a warranty return, you flash back to stock ROM, flash SSPL, then restore your data.
2. Can original HTC ROM operate on Hard spl ?( on some proprietary phone using different spl with original ROM will turn the phone into brick, just asking to confirm )
-Stock ROMs can operate on HSPL, however if it is an older ROM, you want to downgrade your HSPL from 2.51 to 1.83.
3. If for warranty reason, i reflash HTC spl, the next time i wanna install a cook rom, is there a need to flash Hard spl again ?
-If you flash SSPL, you would have flash HSPL again to flash a cooked ROM.

-Most cooked ROMs are optimized for best memory management regardless of the version. You can also get a memory management app, such as ClearTemp or Memaid.

Help Restoring Xperia to Original

I just got a used xperia and i want everything back to original.
it has been hard spl which i think is preventing me from being able to update using ericsson update service.
It also has touch-it xperiance, which i effectively removed from the today menu, but the remnants of it are everywhere. I think its from the manila hd cab but im not sure.
the dialer is still tf3d, so are the notifications, as well as comm manager and im not sure what else
i dont want to hard reset because of all the other settings i put on widows mobile
i guess i probably need to remove tf3d and its cronies, re establish the original xperia user interface (touch-it xperiance 6.1 still shows up on startup), and put in the original spl which i can kind of figure out from previous threads but i need help with tf3d cause i dont want to screw up my phone!!!
thank you....

Please look around in this subforum or use the search. I think you're the third person in two weeks who asks this question.
To help answer your question:
If you can connect to SE update service and update from there, you will flash the latest official rom. That means that all stuff on the device (not on the sd-card) will be gone anyway. You can do a hard reset, which has the same effect but will restore the rom that was last flashed.
If you want to use an official rom, you have to flash stock spl. You can find that in the hard-spl thread (one of the sticky topics in the top of this forum).
Another way to obtain an official rom is to look in the rom library (also a sticky in this subforum), and look for the R3A rom you want. You probably want one with a specific language and maybe even a provider. Just look around in the R3A rom list to see which suits you best.
having the touch it xperience means you do not hav a stock rom
so you must flash a stock rom if you want it stock
look in the official rom thread, don't waste your time with SE update!
also if you flash a rom you must hard-reset anyway!
To go back to original, you need to follow these steps:
1) Download the stock rom for your country from the same forum, usually it's the Generic_UK.
2) Flash this stock rom to your mobile (this will clear all your settings and remove all data). IMPORTANT: Before doing this step, download PPCPIMBackup tool and backup all your data using this tool.
Additionally, you may have to restore your stock radio(not FM radio) BEFORE proceeding to Step 3 if it has been modified, search the forum on how to identify and do this.
3) Download the Hardspl utility and the stock rom's "ruu_signed.nbh". You'll find both in the Hardspl sticky post here. Connect your phone and run Hardspl, but before clicking "Next" in the first step, replace the "ruu_signed.nbh" in Hardspl's folder with the stock one you downloaded. Now continue hardspl and your stock SPL will be restored. IMPORTANT: Make sure you don't have a file named "Kovsimg.nbh" in your memory card before you do this or else it may not work.
Now you're done restoring everything to original. If you just want the stock OS, but wanna keep the hard spl for later modification to rom then you can skip Step 3. But unless you do Step 3, you will not be able to use the SE update service and any remaining warranty you have is still void.
NOTE: Make sure you restore stock OS and stock radio(not FM radio) before stock SPL, that is do Step2 before Step3.
Summary of things you need:
1) PPCPIMBackup tool to backup all your data.
2) Stock ROM(OS) for your mobile, additionaly the stock radio.
3) Hardspl utility and the stock spl file - you can skip this if not needed.
stock radio is included with stock roms!

Glad it helped you. When I first came to this forum, I was confused too. Then I figured it out. Well.. I think the radio here refers to the transmitter. Radios might differ based on country as different countries have different bands on which the mobile operators work. I think the radio referred here is just the driver file which makes the transmitter in the phone work.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I searched but never found any topic that explains what an xperia radio is. I'm assuming what I thought is correct.

To further clarify, it's the PHONE transmitter, the one that lets you call and send messages and go on the internet. It is not an FM transmitter or receiver.
Is there any difference if you have a X1i or X1a when flashing any of the original ROMs in the sticky topics here?

Nope, you use the same method either way.

Bad Flash?

Ok, here's what i did:
I'm sending my xperia back to vodafone, so i need to restore stock rom and spl. I flashed a NL Vodafone R3AA rom (found here) to my phone yesterday, which worked perfectly. Did a hard reset, and went on with restoring stock spl.I tried using the special RUU with a replaced stock spl .nbh (the method described in one of the topics here), but the RUU couldnt find my phone. Since i didnt have another PC here, i tried to flash the .nbh to my phone via the micro SD method.
This went well, the progress bar filled up and disappeared, followed by 10+ minutes of "loading". Advised by a friend, i pulled out the battery, put it back in the device and powered it on. The phone instantly booted, showing the bootloader-screen and saying it's going to resume flashing the device. Followed by another endless "loading" screen.
But, since i got a chance to look in the bootloader-screen, I saw the SPL version was now 0.72.000 (or something like that, at least the OliNex text was gone). Afaik, this means the stock spl is back. I tried replacing the stock spl Kovsimg.nbh with the default one provided with the custom RUU (which is OliNex HardSPL, right?), but it showed the same "loading" screen. I havent tried flashing the rom again, since the bootloader says it's on stock spl at the moment...
What can i do? I guess they dont accept bricks over at vodafone...
Thanks in Advance,
Sorbo
using the usb cable and the ROM flashing Custom_RUU.exe
flash the R3A Rom again. that should fix it not booting!
You also need to flash the radio back to stock (not sure what version it is, but it's around here somewhere) otherwise you'll face flash issues. This means flashing HardSPL flashing the radio, flashing StockSPL again and return. Also, best flash R2A. Not sure if R3A was ever properly released.
Ok guys, thanks for the replies

Ok, thanks for the tip R2AA it is!
When flashing the rom the radio was also updated, but i'll try this
R3AA was properly released!
if you want to be cure of complete stock why not just use SEUS?
and there is no need to flash radio with stock ROMs as they're included, all your doing is flashing a radio extracted from a stock rom anyway! this means you don't have to hardspl

And this was the winning tip. Just flashed back the R3AA rom (vfone NL), even though i doubted if it would work (since the bootloader said it was back on stock spl), but it did.
Phone works again. Bootloader now says 0.78.000 (or something like that, no OliNex), so i guess it's ok now. RUU still isnt able to flash the phone, tried on 3 different pc's ( win7 x64, vista x86, xp x86), but i cant flash the phone...
Ah well, i'll try to send it back, see what they come up with. Thanks a bunch!

USPL or SplExploit???

Is anyone working on this anymore? Just curious.
Yeah my old HTC Vox had an USPL, this was much better then the HSPL. The USPL was automaticly overwritten if I restored an official HTC ROM. If i installed the USPL I could flash any custom ROM i wanted till i reflashed a official HTC ROM.
If your phone has problems it's much easier to restore to factory settings
Grtz,

The other thing is a lot of the problems on the kaiser were solved by flashing the spl that matched the rom you were using. Does this still hold true?

That would hold true for any phone, but on Rhodium it doesn't really matter because there are currently so few SPLs. If I remember correctly, they're only 2, and only the HardSPL based off of the latest one is available for download.

X1 problem to hardSPL for newer SPL version 0.78.0000

X1 problem to hardSPL for newer SPL version 0.78.0000
Hi, I am ALi , sorry to bother, but just done some HardSPL on my X1,
last time the SPL ver was 0.78.0000
i read many of method to flash a newer ROM must HardSPL first their X1,
the problem is, I had already HardSPL it to SPL ver 0.72.0000, the process was a success
but
it stucked/bricked at tri-color mod, so i had it settled from
forum. xda-developers. com/showthread. php?t=455553 thread reported by MALIK,
i noticed that before down grading my X1, the ROM ver was UK_GEN_R3AA010,
but
after HardSPL to ver 0.72, i cant flash the original ROM UK_GEN_R3AA010 back, instead of that only ROM UK_GEN_R1AA017 are working with my current flashed SPL ver 0.72.
I tried to Hard SPL to 0.52 Olinex version (i didnt find any 0.72Olinex!! just 0.52 Olinex, where can i found the 0.72 ver of olinex?? does the 0.72Olinex really exist?? i am so much confiused now and really tired of trying to make it work in almost a week!!) so many time but fail, by USB, by SDcard (also try to replace my SD-HC4gb to Nokia SD 256Mb) neither of that method work!!
please help...
i am desprate to implement newer ROM on my X1 so called Kovsky....
please admin/engineers/developers help.... my head are getting bolder than b4 huhuhuuuuuu........

The hardSPL 0.72Olinex can be found here (X1_HardSPL_v1.zip):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
Also there is a detailed describtion on how to hardSPL your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
For questions you can try the search button here, if you can't find any on this subject (which I doubt, because the question has been asked more than once in the thread) reply to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
I've flashed my X1 with hardSPL and back to stock SPL a number of times, never without succes. From 0.720000 to 0.72Olinex to 0.720000 and from 0.780000 to 0.72Olinex.
So when you can't hardSPL from your pc there must be something wrong with the connection between pc and X1.
If you want a newer ROM with stock SPL, connect your phone with stock SPL 0.720000 to SEUS and SEUS will automatically update SPL to 0.780000. After that you can flash R3A ROM.
The other way through hardSPL and the manual download of R3A from PavelX1's sticky.
I tried restore my software using SEUS but it says that I already have the lastes software (but I have ENERGY ROM 6.5)
the past version of SEUS had an option to flash again but the new one doesnt have.
CAN someone help ???

Download you stock ROM from PavelX1's sticky thread and flash it...
Tnx you saved me from hours of searching
Hi Lokhato,....
thankx for the advice,... if ou wont tell me about the SEUS, sure my X1 i declared it DEAD!!! I was accidently HardSPL it to 0.72.0000 i think...., because of i tried so many times to HardSPL the OLinexSPL to my X1 but it aint workin. but then when i replace the RUU_signed.nbh that got version 0.72.0000stockSPL it worked AND THEN it STUCKED at the boot screen says that please wait, continue to upgrade ROM.... damn i resolved it...
so my step on recover to the latest stock SPL 0.78.00 are like this,...
1. download the SEUS from XPERIA website.
2. try to READ and FOLLOW the instruction stepbystep. even whenever the application ask you to restart the PC/LAPTOP, please make it done so....
3. whenever SEUS asked u to enter the bootscreen, MAKE SURE you take out the SD out from your phone. and let the SEUS flash the OriSPLver 0.78.0000
4. then it blinks several times after the progress bar finished, and it also stucked at bootscreen saying to continue updating ROM.
5. in this situation, please flash back your ROM with ROM UK_GEN_R3AA010 not the R1 or R2 ROM. so to manually flash the R3 ROM, copy the R3 image file to your freshed format SD and named it kovsimg.nbh
6. so put the SD in X1 and soft reset the X1 by pressing the reset button with your stylus at the back panel of X1.
7. let it load the image whenever it enter the boot screen again
8. press the power button to confirm upgrade ROM.
9. it should state there SUCCESS!! and you must HARD-RESET the X1.
9. waitt...... and wait...... be very patient, take a break... let it run.....
10. you are DONE!!
enjoy your original flashed ROM,...
if you not like it,
from this point you can just simply HardSPL it to 0.72Olinex by downloading the X1_HardSPL_v1.zip
then go get another ROM and repeat step 5.
as my observation...
SPL 0.72.0000 can flash img from R1,
R2 I dunno can flash or not, never try it...
SPL 0.78.0000 can flash img from R3
HardSPL it to OLinex ver 0.72OLinex ver, then you r good to go to flash any ROM you like!!
damn what a hard week!!! at last i got it to flash the HardSPL on my X1
last but not least.... just want you all to know that i was doing those step above from my mom's laptop current spec was CentrinoDuo, mine that always hanging whenever try to flash any SPL was on SempronAMD Laptop + always BlueScreen error even after i freshed repair my .NetFramework ver3.5sp1. so if you facing any problem on SPL our X1, try to done the upgrading on another PC/laptop, i believe that Intel based processor was more stable than AMD i think...
Don't know if you can use the SD-card flash method when on stock SPL.
A couple of things to know:
0.720000 is stock SPL
0.780000 is an updated stock SPL
0.72Olinex is hardSPL
Did you try to flash with CustomRUU instead of sdcard? I attached it to this post, just unpack and place the ROM you want to flash in the same folder. You can find the ROMs in PavelX1's sticky.
What does your bootloader say now? And you can't boot your phone?

but
- last time my original 0.78.0000 cant do HardSPL
- after accidently flash the 0.72.0000 by using RUU but at the same time i copy the stock0.72 SPL to RUU folder,,,... or my mistaken to copy to SD also by renaming it to kovsimg.nbh i think, just cant remember at that time, and still cant HardSPL + hangging somemore....
- after SEUS updates to newer stock SPL 0.78.0000 like before it was very easy to HardSPL with 0.72OLinex..... wonder y.....
hmmm... CustomRUU??... i think if i try that method would always get the ERROR code rather then success huhuhuuu....
for now i just stick to flashing ROM using Nokia SD 256Mb if the img can fit it in....

sorry i miss out to answer this...
my bootloader shows SPL-0.72 Olinex
already flash some of software img like firestorm... nrg... but still cant suit me, now just flash back to it original state WM6.1.....
you got any suggestion about the best, smooth, cool&light ROM for me??
another thing i noticed that, the ROM that been cooked doesnt seems have Xpanel.cab installed, so that our X button panel will be useless, or did i miss something? huhuhuuuu
-ALi
Several roms do have panel manager installed so there is a use for the X Button
in case it is not cooked in you can add it manually. Also XMapper is available for alternative uses of the button...
Finally, if Silent_UC is supported by the rom you can bulk install many apps, registry edits, etc. after flashing the rom or afterwards. Just search...

hardSPL can be done without a problem from 0.780000. I did it several times after I brought it to repairs.
In post #5 in the EnergyROM thread you can find a link on how to install the panelmanager, from R3A and X2. This works with all roms which don't have the panelmanager installed.
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
I am very happy now! Just managed to update my SE X1 after SEUS 0.78!. As others suggested downloaded R3AA010 (APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_KOV_R3AA010), but used NBHUtil to extract ROM. That was a mistake! I simply renamed R3AA010 to Kovsimg and put it in my SD 2 Gb card. Ufff, after 2 weeks of endless reading the forums and thying this and that... Finally!!!!

[Q] Task 29

Hi all.
Is it task 29 the same thing with HardSPL?
If not, then what it is?
When should I run HardSPL. I understand that I do not have to run it everytime I install a new ROM, but do I have to run it after 3-4 ROM installs or just 1 time and it is enough?
Thanks.
Task29 is a totally different thing to HardSPL. You only need to run HardSPL once, then you can flash custom ROMs as well as official ROMs. HardSPL stays on there through all of that.
Task29 is a program that wipes the ROM on your phone. So I would recommend to use it every time before you flash a new ROM (after you've backed up your data etc). It wipes out only the ROM area (not HardSPL, nor the radio), to make sure that when you flash the new ROM it's going on cleanly.
HardSPL only needs to be done once. HardSPL unlocks the SPL, which allows you to load "un-official" ROMs. Without it, you will only be able to flash ROMs from your carrier. After you HardSPL, the SPL will remain unlocked unless you deliberately re-SPL using the instructions on the HardSPL thread (for instance, to return for warranty repair).
As mentioned above, Task29 wipes/formats the memory. Its not absolutely mandatory. But may help prevent some fragments of old ROMs from causing bugs in your newly flashed ROM. It only takes a couple minutes to do, so its well worth it. I do it before every ROM flash.
Thank you very much. You were of great help. Now I think I understand what it`s all about
