porting to different phones - Touch CDMA Android Development

OK so i know this dosent really fit in the thread but i love this community.. But i was wondering if it would be at all possible to get android on a Samsung instinct. since my vogue died its what Ive been stuck with. And though its a great phone i really miss android.. From what i know it does have Java its got about 1g of on board mem. so it will prolly have to be some sort of haret, but is it at all possible?

Do you guys think its still worth getting a G1 over a Hero(sprint)/Mytouch/Cliq?

I want to get a G1, then root it so that i can use sense and apps2sd.I know its not the best looking phone but its not all bad, i like the hardware keyboard.Right now i have a samsung instinct(sprint) so im used to on-screen keyboards, but this phone has given me headaches and whatnot..i want to know what you guys think is the best thing to get.
It's just personal prefrence really. The hardware keyboard is the only thing the G1 has over any other android phone out at the moment, the MyTouch/Magic/Sapphire/Ion is the same spec as the G1, just no keyboard. Personally I'd go for the Hero, because I don't use the hardware keybaord much (and HTC IME is awesome!) and it also has 288mb RAM to compared to 192 than all other android phones have (appart from the 32A Magic). Can't really comment on the Cliq, don't really know anything about it.
As far as what's out now and what's comming out in the near future, I'd definately go with the Hero, I remember reading on phandroid that T-Mobile should be getting one and I'm crossing my fingers for that. I've been playing with my G1 for quite a few months now, I'm ready for something new that will likely be able to get android 2.0 and show off some more great things that can be done with the OS
well if i had a choice i would like the cliq just because of the key board.but if i didn't want a keyboard, it would be hero for sure .but i need a keyboard ,i use it all the time ! once the click comes out i think it will have a good strong following !
we don't know of the cliq is rootable yet, and remember were talking about motorola here. Id wait a few months and see where it goes first as far as quality and development. I have both the MT3G and the G1. I like the touch better just because its thinner and nicer looking. It took about a week to get used to the virtual keyboard but like any new phone you get used to it the more you use it. As far as performance its about the same, since both are running the same roms and are set up identical. I haven't used my G1 since to be honest, I really like the MT3G. I don't know much about the hero to comment. If you want a keyboard then id just wait because there are more android phones about to be released real soon.

Has anybody started development of the PS3 jailbreak hack yet? htc t-mobie G1 has got same chipsets and has been used for the hack.
anybody got any ideas?
My line of thought was to use the android port on the touch pro to get same functionallity but it does not boot with the available g1 hacks.
i've started looking at it, going for android room way that is, should possibly be the easyest way to go aswell. since most is already "fixed" by other dev's ^^
will post back IF and mostly if i do figgure anything out ^_^.
(note: i have NEVER EVER coded or done anything like this. but i am a nerd and will do what i can )
ps3 with broken bd-rom old and dusty but worth a try!

I Moved from Android And Love WP7 Personally, But You should look at the features that you need and use in android and find out if they are present in WP7.
Personally I know you'll have a shock when you notice how 2 phones with the same processors act differently, WP7 seems to really utilise the processor for speed, I sat in an o2 store using both models and within 10 minutes I knew I wanted the HD7.. It just felt more fluid and I like the way that it seamlessly integrates everything
WP7 is very pleasing to the eye and personally I Like it, but if you're gonna miss the features in Android i'd suggest don't move.
If you update to the developer build of mango you would get to see the shocking speeds of that too, it seems to make the phone even faster, and not by just a little bit, by a heck of a lot!
The apps are pricey however, one of the setbacks of the Xbox live system and the fairly new operating system sadly.
These are my opinions on the phones, but personally you might think differently
Thank you for your input; I've was always into WinMo and moved over to Andriod.
Didn't give WP7 a shot yet, though I must admit that it seems to be more faster and fluid than andriod. The applications are my concern..but I do need a change
let's see if anyone else would like to share their experience...
EDIT: does WP7 support VOIP/SIP?? That would be a deal breaker for me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Android graphically resembles a little win 6th. It has great potential but they really are useful for small percent of people. WP7 is a new OS, still far from perfect, but moving in the right direction. It is good that Nokia will work. This will force the great progress and I think at the end of the year we will already have a good system.
Personally I have HTC HD7 and HTC IS and I am not going to get rid HD7.

which Android version????

Ok folks,
As I still use my Kaiser as my daily work phone I have decided to flash Android on to it instead of messy around on it as a haret/sd installation(been awhile since I did though)... Didn't really want to flash it but as wm6.5 and alot of apps are nolonger being updated or don't work I have little choice any longer.... So my question is this...Which Android version ported to Kaiser has all hardware working and is stable to use? which one has ext2 working(sd partition) and even app2sd in other words which one is as near as damn it like having a true android phone???
regards
lohtse
come on folks.... offer a little advise!!!!
why not just get an android device? even if you buy an used one on craigslist i bet you'll be alot happier then this
Yep already have android phone(look at sig) but work phone is a kaiser and is perfectly servicable.Even have 5 batteries for when am away etc... just getting tired of apps failing on wm6.5 and as only reason not flashed android was there was no memory map mapping app but now there is... just need a rom that has all hardwear working..and would be happy...
I haven't had this phone in so long. I'm surprised android is portable to it

Question about the very similar HTC TOPAZ ...

Hey there
I'm about to revive my old touch diamond 2 by changing the housing and searching for a good rom or android from sd...some time ago, about a year, I was trying to use android as my regular daily system on this phone and it was really good ....so I thought, that by all the time what is now over since the last time I used my topaz, the development is now really advanced and it got on NAND ..
So my question is, what is new since then? A year of development is really many time to do some good software .
What has changed, what is still the same?
I'm posting it here, because I've seen that on the topaz forum there is almost no activity and because topaz and rhodium have almost exactly the same hardware ( not to mention the exterior and the mini Jack 3.5) I've posted it here.
So it would be really really nice if someone could give me a little summary of what happened in development on this phones on android I would be really happy and also I think that this would be really helpful for other people like me who want to refresh their news and development stage knowledge of this phones..
Thanks in advice

No NAND, last build I put out for SD on RHOD is the same for TOPA - GBX0C.
There weren't many devs with the TOPA - and none have been active on the TOPA for quite some time now. Sorry, this device is quite old.
Hmpf....I thought that this device is the same and hasn't it the same age as rhodium? Thought so every time..I mean this basically the same phone just without keyboard and mini jack ...and a bigger screen lol
But thanks, really nice that you have given me some infos

Old? What none sense.
This device is capable of much more then this.
There are really old devices like say the wallaby that still get updates.
