[Q] Do all Nexus one come with AMOLED display? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

if not - how can I check my display type?

The early Nexus one came with amoled. Recently HTC has started using super LCD.
To test bring up a completely black screen in a perfectly dark room. You'll see the difference. YouTube has some videos on it.

Is there a more, how should I put it, "reliable" way to know for sure?

Without a comparison device it is hard, but there is a clear difference between the two. I can't think of anything you can find information wise on the hardware of the device.
But inferus's suggestion is the best that can be offered.
Just restart the device in a pitch black room, if the black parts are nearly perfectly black, it is AMOLED, if light is spilling out from the black screen, it is SLCD.

Right, then I guess it AMOLED, im screwed

What's wrong with AMOLED? It's not without it's flaws, but it is a beautiful screen.

Yeah, if i check out fastboot, i can see a small amount of burn in on the notification bar, that is the only time i can see it. If you have root, i suggest getting a dark notification bar, then it won't happen.

[Q] Yellowish screen?

Hi there,
The Galaxy Note is my first phone with a LED screen, I had a Desire HD before.
Since I got my Galaxy Note, the screen seems a bit yellowish to me.
When you tilt it a little bit to the side, you see the while colors becomes more white, but when you tilt it back, so the screen is right in front of you, then the white colors looks a bit yellowish again.
Is this normal for a LED screen?
I don't like the yellowish tint at all, but for the rest the screen looks amazing.
Thanks for your answers
Hmm I don't really notice any sort of yellow tint on my screen but then again I'm not the most color observant person . What you can try is go int settings==>display==>screen mode and change it from standard to dynamic or movie. I have it on dynamic and love it.

Yea I already tried dynamic mode, it makes the yellowish tint a little less, but it's still there.
You can notice it by yourself by tilting the phone.
Just put something on your screen that has a white color, and watch the screen from the side, it looks much nicer then.
Ohyea, by the way.
You can also notice the yellowish very good if you put the screen mode on movie
Just got my Galaxy Note N7000 today and noticed the same issue on mine. Tilting the screen slightly makes the whites look pure white while in its normal position the screen looks kinda yellow. I am not being able to understand if this is a faulty set or not
SAMOLED screens are supposed to have superior viewing angles, it is believed that the Oleophobic coating is causing the green/blue/yellow tinting that you see when the phone is tilted ( well in your case its a direct view ) my first screen had absolutely no color shift even at the most extreme angles, the new one I have now has a blue tint unless directly viewed.
The norm is supposed to have great viewing angles and only shift in really extreme and non usable angles.

Well, you don't have to be upset like that.
What I'm trying to say is that if you tilt the phone, it has great colors.
But when you look straight onto the screen, you see a yellowish screen.
Your conclusion is that the viewing angle are very good, and only shift in really extreme and non usable angles.
Looking straight onto the screen should not be a non usable angle.
And Im not the only one who's saying it, but when you tilt the phone, the colors looks much nicer.
Im not upset, I just found it amusing why it was not understood right off the bat.
Have your screen/phone replaced, thats clearly a quality control issue.

If you google for Galaxy Note + green tint you'ed get a few results including this:

Some users report is as normal and accept it as normal, If its normal Im wondering why theres a green and blue tint difference and a few screens dont even have any tinting even at extreme angles. Like the first one I got (but had very visible horizontal lines )

True.
But I don't expect a device to be defect when it is just new.
Still there are also some people that say it is normal.
I also got a friend, he's a designer, and works with photoshop etc, and colors are very important to him.
I also told him about this issue, he said it happens more with screen, and it is seen as normal for these screens where it appears with.

This is the reason why quality control is so random with samsung, people accepting defects as normal but dont let my expectations be yours as long as your happy with the device thats what is important.

He does have a point normally a screen comes in warm, cool and neutral depending on the factory calibration. These things can be normal as long as the user accepts them to be.

No problem, Keep us posted on whatever you decide.
I've had four blue Galaxy Notes and one white and they all exhibit varying degrees of tint with some less noticeable than others. Some have a more warmish yellow tint while others are cooler with more of a blue tint. It was the same way on the Galaxy S2. The best you can hope for in getting a replacement is one that has a tint that's less noticeable or if you prefer a cooler tint to the warmer tint.

Boy do I miss the blacks...

I'm guessing many N4 owners were previously using an S3, Galaxy Nexus, Note (like me) or any other device with an amoled display. I just compared my screen (On the Clock app in night mode) with my dad's One S side by side and although I knew the blacks would never be as good on the N4, it hit me hard - the blacks suck.
I guess that can sound very wrong if taken out of context but in my opinion LG could have done better here, I'd like to hear what you guys think.
Not that it will change anything but a pointless conversation between some black screen enthusiasts - what else is the internet for anyway?

Haha I don't believe in taboos, I live and feed on internet controversy. I highly doubt anyone can say they prefer the N4 IPS black to amoled black, colours are a different argument but blacks - hands down amoled.
You're wrong in guessing that most people came from an AMOLED screen. I am coming from a One X and the LCDs are beautiful. To each his own.
There are pros and cons to both technologies. *shrug*

2 more to the list.
your complaining about a physical constraint of an IPS panel. You can't compare amoled black because it doesn't produce black, its just off.
I'm more happy that I no longer have screen burn in and my movies don't ghost.
Edit: if you compare this IPS to maybe the iPhone IPS then we can have a discussion

criticism of an already known fact.
the OP stresses an advantage of AMOLEDs and dismisses the various great aspects of LCDs like sharpness, bright display, less power consumption.. etc. he should have known what he was sacrificing when he chose to buy a phone with an LCD display. pointless thread.
The blacks are about as good as it gets on an LCD, TBH. They'll never be as good as AMOLED and if that's important to you then just stick with AMOLED. I've found that I spend a very small amount of time looking at screens with predominantly dark backgrounds, while I spend way more time looking at screens with white backgrounds, like webpages. And the whites on AMOLED are sickly looking.
After a year of having the GNex I can definitively say I like the display on the n4 much better. I am still using a solid black background on my n4 and the blacks seem plenty black to me. Putting them side by side I can definitely see a slight difference in black level but overall the n4 display looks better.
this thread is bordering on the edge of racism methinks!

I'm coming from a Galaxy S with an AMOLED then a S2 with an AMOLED over the last two and a half years. This screen looks wonderful to me. I haven't sat down and examined the difference between the two screens in different conditions, and tested it or whatever else, but I am quite happy with the screen. I don't think I'm just being a fanboy here and rather being realistic, and I've showed my friends too and they can't see anything wrong with the Nexus' screen.

I can say my device has virtually no light bleed (8.9"). What size is yours. The 7" hd I had before had absolutely no bleed. Thats one of the reasons I like amazons devices, the build quality is always top notch and far better than most devices on the market. So I would say no thats not normal but I haven't seen a large number of them to say for sure.
Looks like my Kindle. Personally I don't notice it when the screen is any other color but black.

[Q] Faint grey lines across screen.

Picked up my HTC One today and loving it so far, except I've noticed one thing - faint grey lines running across the screen, most notable against a white background (my attention was drawn to them in 'settings').

Yeah on a white background I have the feint grey-ish lines. I think it's the digitiser.
Huh, interesting! I've never seen that before specifically looking for it but yeah, there they are. Boy are they faint though... Like you have to really look for them and have a PURE white background (for mine at least)
They do indeed correspond perfectly to the digitizer lines I was looking at on my phone earlier today ironically! If you tilt the phone on an angle under bright sun light you'll see the horizontal lines of the digitizer under the glass which match the locations. I can't imagine them being related to the backlight though because you can't see the physical structure behind the LEDs when they're on. Try seeing the back inside of a light bulb when it's on ).
Worry not I'd say.

It's definitely a deal breaker for me, I never had this kind of problem with my past phones that I used, including Iphone 4, iphone 5, GS2, GS3 and Galaxy note 1. They all have beautiful perfect screen, no smudge like brownish or grayish line and never have any problem on hardware side whatsoever.
Only with HTC One that I exchanged 3 time and still have the same problem and come with an addition of stuck pixel. Don't get me wrong, I truly love this phone, but this is too much for me, I feel like going backward if I were to use this phone daily and pretend that it's normal. they need to do something with their QA until then I'm done with HTC.
For those who are seeing these grey lines, how are they oriented on your screens? Mine has diagonal lines across the entire screen, which seems really odd to me. They're especially visible on white and light backgrounds. They almost look like fingerprints, excpet that they're under the screen surface...
The thing is, this is my second One (returned the first due to stuck pixels) and I never noticed lines like these on the first one, even though I scoured the screen very closely looking for dead/stuck pixels.

The are horizontal lines. The thing is when you are looking for a dead pixel you will not notice the lines. Look under a bright light you will see the touch sensor under the glass .
I can't see any lines on a white background. Digitiser lines are visible, barely, in bright sunlight at really harsh angles. I'd take this over the burn in and ghosting present on all AMOLED screens including the GS4 , any day of the week.
