hi friends,
i have a htc touch viva (opal) the os in this phone is WM 2.1 i am just a beginner as wm is concerned i would like to know how do we upgrade the os in he phone i have tried updating my phone from the windows update but nothing happens can some one help me
CAREFULLY read the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685025
It has all the information you need to know about upgrading your phone. But let me give you a piece of advice: If you're comfortable with your device as it is right now, don't try to upgrade it. Because you'll have to start from scratch (all your data will be erased), and you may not like your new OS, or it can cause some unexpected problems in your device.
So, only upgrade when you really feel the need to do so, and try to get some more information about Windows Mobile before trying to upgrade. Give yourself some time to know your device well.
If you feel comfortable with the idea of upgrading, then go ahead and do so. Remember to READ ABOUT UPGRADING before doing it. It will save you a lot of frustration and problems.
Good luck..

Hi,
I just got a Titan with Sprint and have tons of stupid questions. Is there a category in here where people won't mind me asking my questions? I'm new to mobile in particular, mobile windows, mobile devices but not new to windows and linux in general on desktop. So I have questions about imaging my device, cooking my own roms (for instance I've gotten my grubby little hands on the 3.16 GPS/EVDO revA test rom), recovering from disaster, etc before I start messing with and bricking my device. I want to make sure I can recovery after installing Google's android for example as I'm sure I'll probably kill it many times trying.
Thanks,
Chris
when i got here pre getting a wallaby i never even used a pocketpc before
was here for a long while before getting one
general pc knowlage and mainly pc knowlage
made it possible for me to help others who had pda's
before i got one myself
well that and reading other peoples posts
in general people dont mind any questions - no matter how "stupid" as long as you have taken the time and effort to search first.
There are many guides already posted on how to cook roms. This is not a simple task so take things one step at a time.

OK, thanks for clarifying. I guess I have two main generic questions to start.
Before I get started, what is the best way to create a complete backup image of my current setup? I've tried to find this out but I keep only seeing things about sprite backup and/or active sync but I suspect I need something else. I recall something about scraping a rom off your device but they didn't go into details. Plus I'm not very clear about the boot loader. Do I need to modify the boot loader and if I do will that screw up my chances of trying other things like Google's Android linux or other cooked windows mobile roms?
Lets assume I can figure out how to use a rom kitchen or whatever other tools I'll need to customize a rom to my liking, I get the feeling I shouldn't just dive in and start modifying things "willynilly" as things will go badly. What do I need to be careful about modifying and what can go wrong? I've only briefly glanced over some rom cooking threads as I wasn't sure where to start and if the instructions are extremely device-model-"centric" or not.
I'm happy to read or follow howtos if I just get links. I don't expect anybody to walk me through stuff.
Thanks,
Chris
generaly the "stuff" is devided into 2 cats
the stuff you put om it
and the rom itself
if you have the rom file you got on the pda or download the rom version you got the 2th
the rom on your device is not enuiqe and is just the same as any other rom of the same version from the same provider in case you got a custom rom from a phoneoperator like orange or o2 or.....
first one is pretty much what activesync sync and a new phone or a phone with a new rom can get access to the same stuff when synced to the pc apart from the programs later installed though same goes for a pda upgraded to a later rom and later downgraded to an earlier rom
speritebackup and such backup programs does what activesync does plus auto reinstall programs manualy installed lated on
Hi All,
the website for all the guides relating to the Trinity is down and just wondering if there's either another version or someone with a hard copy of the website.
I'm mainly after a flashing guide as I've just got this phone and whilst being very techy in the sense of computers I've never dabbled in PPC's, so this is a new on for me, so just need to make sure it goes ok ...
Also, I have TOMTOM Nav.6 on this with UK/IRE and European maps (pre-installed, bought second-hand) and im trying to make a back-up of it to restore once I get 6.1 on there (planning on using the WWE Elegance ROM), but TT-Home is utterly useless and crashes every time no matter what (does this with my Dad's TT-ONE) ...
If I simply copy the contents off of the card, will be be able to re-use these on a fresh install of Nav.6 once WM 6.1 is on?
Thanks all for any advice,
Luke.

It appears you have the same type of phone as I do, It's even a G4 Phone so be careful not to use G3 on your phone or you will BRICK IT.
I'll give you what you might like. I had a hard time myself figuring out what to do with my phone and researched, but since it looks like you already did an hard SPL patch you can install a windows mobile rom without having to use a Soft SPL *since HARD SPL even if your CID is still locked can still be tricked with that permanent patch that tricks the phone into thinking it's unlocked.*
you will mostly have to do a RUU utility update to do this job with the phone on and active synced.
I'm using something that is from cracing's custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494802
He gives out instructions in his notice and it is very thorough of what to do when flashing your phone.
If you dont like his windows mobile roms try others like searching other peoples cooked roms in the Wizard section of the forum in windows Mobile 6 threads. Here's another link to another Windows mobile 6 from X2H's Builds

make sure you always read what their info says and always make notes to everything. once you know what you're doing it'll be easy.
Be advised that once you start flashing here's what you should see. You should see your phone showing a RGB Color window, if it shows progress on the phone and your PC, DON'T TOUCH or REMOVE USB. Just sit back and let it do its job. Grab a snack or watch TV while the process does it and always make sure your phone is charged by at least 70% or higher or it will not go further. After the process is done your phone should soft reset and your pc program will tell you it was successful.
I hope this has helped you with enough info.
Thank you so much for all your advice which was a great help. It was so easy and now I am enjoying my new winmo.6.5.... Great great!!!
I can not thank you enough..................so much appreciated..
Cheers, mate...
I just bought a used GSM factory touch pro 2 from a guy. It's been hacked with some sort of rom from XDA.
- Can someone please point me into the right direction to throw back on the stock wm 6.1 or 6.5 with TouchFlo3d.
I know NOTHING about this stuff as you can tell, but am willing to give it a shot to try and boot the stock rom back onto the phone (if that makes any sense).
If it helps. i already have 'co0kie's Home Tab Editor, which I don't know how to use/don't need. and I have total commander already on my phone.
thanks in advance for any help - I really do appreciate it. I've been wanting one of these phones since they came out last year and I just want the stock ROM ( boring, I know.. but I'm not confident enough with this kind of stuff).
Cheers

Everyone has to start somewhere...
read this post: [Resources] Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom (For Noobs)
it is a sticky so will be at the top of this forum section.
Since you already have a custom rom and therefore hardSPL you just need to follow step 3. Dont worry about flashing a new radio (step 4) unless you want to.
Thanks mrj
I just found out that I have a SEA version of the phone after blindly luckily stumbling upon the sea version of htc's website for the stock ROM. I can't seem to sync the phone and windows mobile for my pc thought. But I will follow those steps you have laid out for me. Thanks again mrj
Cheers
Try a hard reset on your phone and reinstall the activesync software on the PC, otherwise you can try to flash via SD card (I think) I never actuallly tried it.
I always flash thru via sd card since i am on the go most of the time. You would have to go to HTC to get the stock rom for TP2 but if your looking for roms in specific country then have to check here in XDA or HTC. good luck with the search if you need info we can help
At one time I have problems with the ROM that is on my phone, I updated the LG software to version 4.1.2 and since then the phone is very slow even at the screen and power on must push the button several times in above, then a friend said he could upgrade to another type of ROM, but I have not the slightest idea of how to start and where to start, I am very bad in this sense technology for mobile, would like to upgrade my mobile ROM but not really know what to do, I hope someone can help me, give me a link so I can make straights steps and try to update the phone!
