Anyone else interested in this browser? It looks like it will kick ass and who knows they might make a mobile app for it...outside of Android.
Reading your post using it now.
I will give it a go, but I do like Firefox.
opera been ok for me 7 years now on pc
and a few on pda
I've been using it for about 30mins now, it has some quirks but overall speed is the fastest I have seen in a long time.
Check out the cartoon about it:
http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/
Just installed it on my HTC Shift, and it seems pretty good so far.
Regards,
Dave
Yea it is really fast. I like it.
Maybe in the future could be a good option, but now in Beta... I´ll stick to Opera.
There is no options to personalize, change color, etc, speed is good but not as good as they anounce
Don´t let go with Ads mates! Google want´s all the "Internet World", at least they have to pay us for that!!
Cheers,
it is fast though..but cant replace my Opera..no support for Emails so useless..but it has some fetures which makes it a lil nices
I've tried on my Acer One, and it works very fast, both to launch, and to open web pages. It is very low memory consuming, so i think it will be my preferred browser.
My problem with Opera is it's unstable nature with certain sites, especially older forums. Sometimes it can be a major PITA.
I downloaded it last night, it seems much faster than Firefox. I didn't know there were so many ads on some of the forums I visit I'll stick with Firefox so I don't see the ads.
** This morning I noticed that GoogleUpdate tried to access the internet about 12 times last night. This was with Chrome closed!! I don't give any programs access to the internet for updates.
I have found a problem with Chrome and vBulletin boards like XDA.
It is incorrectly turning DST ON in Eastern Australia making all times out by an hour.
In
User Control Panel
Setting DST Correction option to [Always Off] works around the problem for now. Something amiss in the Chrome javascript engine perhaps?
Without making this change whenever I switch between IE or Chrome with a vBulletin board I get an auto DST update message. IE time is correct. Chrome is wrong.
Anyone else wee this?
You might want to check the EULA a little closer there. It is definitely a boilerplate with some wide ranging implications of they enforced it. It also has a number of bugs, such as a carpet bombing vulnerability right off the get go. Nice idea and if they were to put a decent EULA on it, I might use it.... In the mean time, I'll stick with SeaMonkey or Opera.
-Will
IM USING IT RIGHT NOW!!!
It PWNS!!!
The EULA agreement has already been debunked just check section 9.4....here is how another user explained it:
Actually this is pretty flawed. I know this was posted in MANY other places as well, and I can't write to the authors of ALL those posts, but here's where copypasta news and blog entries have their flaws.
If you read section 9.4 closely, you'll see what I mean:
9.4 Other than the limited license set forth in Section 11, Google acknowledges and agrees that it obtains no right, title or interest from you (or your licensors) under these Terms in or to any Content that you submit, post, transmit or display on, or through, the Services, including any intellectual property rights which subsist in that Content
That "limited license" it refers to is what has exploded onto the internet as a violation of rights, privacy, etc. Again, if you actually read section 11, you'll see that the limited license is only for the promotion of Chrome, and this only holds to things that aren't already covered under other rights, such as copyright or intellectual property. Basically, this boils down to: Google can use anything that is online to promote itself, if one of it's users accesses that site. Which, in all honesty, it could do anyway.
This doesn't violate anything. And if you're still scared of it, use Chromium, the active open source project without the EULA that Chrome is based on.

As for bugs. I have noticed the DST bug, also it seems spell correction doesn't work on some boards I post on. Other then that it's the best browser I prefer.

Edit:
I uninstalled it yesterday. After installation it was still trying to access the internet via GoogleUpdate. I went through the registry and there were tons of references to googleupdates and chrome. I deleted all of them and haven't had any more requests. Wow, don't think I'll even reinstall it in the future just for that.
Theres some kind of memory leak
Whenever i run it
My CPU usage shoots WAY UP
Its fast but dam should it be taxing my processor like that
Cool browser
I love it, been using it for about a week now LOL. But there is still a lot of work needs to be done!
Google Chrome is so much faster on many websites, especially on XDA-developers.com, where it is seconds faster when switching between pages in the forum.
And by using privoxy on newspapers, etc., you can get rid of those annoying ads with ease.
So I know this has been an issue since at least the G1, and that there's a sort of workaround either using Linda File Mgr for Gmail uploads or use the Opera browser. Most of the posts out there on this issue are old now so apologies if I've missed something current sifting through everything...
Does a patch/fix/hack exist yet for the unrooted N1/2.1 to correct what seems to be a perpetual Google "beta" bug they have no interest in addressing? I mean, my world won't end if I can't upload a new pic to Facebook or video to Youtube, but it's a glaring omission from an otherwise great handset. Or is it an intentional nod to the carriers for bandwidth sake?
OK so, duh. I realized that if you long press on a photo or video in the gallery then click 'share' it gives you a bunch of options for places to upload to.
However...it's still extremely lame to not be able to upload anything from the stock browser, e.g., uploading pics to a blog or non-sponsored service when that uploading has to happen via the site's form (as opposed to FTP). I know Flash 10.whatever is a part of that, but plenty of sites use Java to handle uploads. Maybe that's what I'm missing...maybe the 'Upload Disabled' button shows up automatically on the Flash sites and I just haven't come across a Java-based site yet.
I would love to see this fixed soon, but just as an FYI, the fix has been committed to the Android source (not yet in AOSP) for Froyo:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2519#c112
Bump.... is this fixed in Froyo? If so can it be back ported to 2.1?
Confirmed working in stock Froyo. I can upload images, music tracks, sound clips to popular websites (e.g. Rapidshare).

Awesome!!
Are you using the stock browser? Does it only allow you access to the sdcard?
Yep, stock browser.
From the looks of it, yes it does only allow me to access the SD card. I'm also limited to the categories I mentioned above (there's no "Other" option).
what a crock...
Just got Evo at launch, (coming from WinMo), and had to install opera today just to help a fellow XDAer to upload a file to xda for him. Unbelievable!
In need of help again, very sorry.
using froyo 2.2 on an ATT vers Nexus One.
Problem:
So with using the default browser (mozilla?), as well as Dolphin HD browser...there are a few important sites I cannot load (no matter what) via 3g or 2G data.
It tries to load at first but just quickly stops leaving me at a blank page.
However, if i switch to my wi-fi network, these same problem pages will load without issue. Not a problem.
But switch back to mobile data 2G or 3G...these sites will not load.
All other websites I visit (so far) load fine either wifi or 3g/2g, it's just some specific ones. This is a constant and consistent problem with specific websites.
The sites are
- hotmail
- ebay mobile
* but I'm sure I'd find others.
So it's strange...perhaps this is best asked in the dev section?
I have no idea what to search on this problem (here or google).
It's as if something is out of whack at the browser end, like it's reading some form data that I could fix/edit/delete and resolve this problem. Or perhaps it's some security bug/issue...
Either way, I need to get this fixed so I can check hotmail if I need to while on the road, ....problem is I don't know where or what to do here for a fix. Any suggestions?
Certain config file, or the like I can edit or del for a fix?
I've DEL the cache, form data, cookies, etc...everything. No fix.
Can the default browser on the nexus one be uninstalled/reinstalled?
I know I can uninstall/reinstall Dolphin HD, I'll try that.
I also like the default browser though...any way this can be fixed?
man, this problem is getting worse...and it's happening in other browsers too.
dolphin and opera.
it's as if there's a glitch that occurs if you once viewed a site via wifi...then when using 3G it has hang ups (blank load screen).
Is there anyone who might have an answer here?
Can the built in browser be reinstalled (froyo 2.2) to try and fix?
Works fine for me.
?
I'm sure it does, and that's great. Most pages load fine too here...but...
As mentioned it seems to be more of an odd or rare "glitch" here...like something that goes awry under special circumstances (won't load a certain page under 3g/2g data - but will load same page using my wifi).
Now it's happening with facebook in default browser and dolphin. Seems to be happening due to usage at home (wifi)...then accessing same via 3G/2G (not at home). Some hiccup...causing a no load scenario with cell data (no problems via wifi though).
Can we please only reply if this is something you also encountered or may know what's going on here?
I'm no expert but the sites you described seem to be https sites, a secured version of normal webpages. And you're trying to acces those sites through an unsecured data connection 3G/2G.
So I don't know exactly what https does but I assume it won't allow you to send/receive your data over an unencrypted network.
But as for your hotmail problem, you can configure your stock e-mail app to receive your hotmails.
This definitely is the wrong section to post this, you might get a lot of flack for posting here!
Try installing a new rom, your issues are not normal. Try Enom's newest -- it has a stable kernel, and offers perhaps an updated apn file. Short of that, you need to call your cellphone provider, and find out the apn settings from them (double check), and/or why they are restricting access...
I understand your frustration with not getting a response in the Q&A section, but the dev section is for devs and testers. Maybe look at what distribution of froyo you are running (cyanogen? enom? kang-o-rama? leo?) and post in their respective threads. and if this is just a stock updated froyo, you definitely need to call your cellphone provider.
Good luck!
Also, note the rules: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614062
verify your APN settings. Same thing happened to me & proper APN settings fixed it.
Not sure the proper ones for AT&T, however.
edit: make sure to clear anything that ought to be cleared -- an asterisk isn't the same as cleared
Delete your Proxy IP and Port under APN settings and try to reload the page.
As mentioned above, 1) this is wrong section, 2) if you're on a custom ROM - try another ROM, and if you're on stock FRF91 or any custom ROM does the same - then it's definitely a problem with your cellular provider and/or your APN settings.
It may pay to check that it's not your carrier.
Can you access those sites with your SIM in another phone?
Merged threads ... please do not create duplicate threads as it clutters up the forum and invites flamming/trolling responses.

Hi
I have the most frustrating issue regarding viewing live sports online - the basic reason I purchased the Nook in the first place.
Basically, if I go to a website such as www dot firstrowsports.co/[/url], the page I want to display will load.
However, the page is full of adverts which I cannot get rid of.
Ordinarily on a windows pc, I can simply click on the 'x' to shut down the advert. On the Nook, clicking the 'x' simply opens up the advert. Bascially, I cannot watch the live feed.
I have tried different browsers, installed flash and other software I have read may help the streaming experience - although none of these relate to websites such as the one mentioned. They normally relate to Youtube, Netflix etc.
Last night I contact BN.com and had a live chat with their customer services. The person I talked to also visited the website I was referring to and found the same issue.
Unbelievably to me, this was the first time they had encountered this. As yet, this is unresolved.
Can the guys on here help me out at all as currently, the Nook is an unused waste of kit.
Thanks
Surely I cant be the only one who watches online sports feeds?
Can I...?

What's the deal with t-mobile S6 DNS name resolution...
If I'm on wifi (anyone's wifi, not just through my AC1900 Nighthawk) anything that requires some sort of name resolution is slow as hell? For example, when browsing websites (and is especially prominent using the Samsung browser, but not as much with others), there are 2-15 second delays before a website that has not been loaded before will come up. Another example is any game that connects frequently to a server (like google play or game data servers) somewhere like Summoners War or Star Wars Uprising (the only two games I generally play). They games will sit and do nothing on a black screen or spinning icons forever and adds 30+ seconds on simple stuff like starting the game. It only does it on WIFI. The phone is completely stock on latest lollipop, however it has done it for all prior releases too.
How do I know it's a DNS issue? Because if I use DNSSet (On Google Play Store). Everything, including games, suddenly works as it should with no delays.. Yes it fixes the problem I'm having, but I SHOULDN'T have to!! I've reset to factory, 3 times now and re-installed every app in testing, and it's always there. it pisses me off to no end as it won't go away!
Does anyone else have the latency with WIFI DNS name resolution? Can someone else try this? Using the Samsung browser (because it's the worst offender), go into the app manager and clear the browser cache. Now on "WIFI" manually enter some site and time how long before it opens it (On mine the sites take an extra 4-10 secs to load). Turn off the WIFI, do the same cache clear on 4G LTE and it's much faster to load web pages. As I mentioned, WIFI DNS name resolution seems to affect all web-related browsing, but shows less impact with other web browsers. Now if I load DNSset that I mentioned above, the name-resolution latencies are all gone.. but I don't want to have to use DNSSet as it messes up my work corporate WIFI connections.
After 4+ months with this phone, I am so tired of stupid little issues...
