Hello, this is my first post, but I've been checking out this site for awhile now.
I've been having trouble with my samsung captivate. Somehow when I left my phone charging overnight something went wrong and now my phone is stuck in silent mode. This is what I mean:
When I hold the power button and it says Silent Mode is ON:
I go to my sound settings and it says Silent Mode is OFF.
I do not get any sound
When I hold the power button and it says Silent Mode OFF
I go to my sound seetings and it says Silent Mode is ON
I do not get any sound even if I put the volume up to the highest setting
Things I've tried:
Hard Reset
Loading a new ROM (the newest Cognition)
3rd Party Sound App
None of these worked, so please help me if you've encountered this problem before/know what to do. I DO get sound with headphone and I can get it to vibrate, but I would like to get this fixed asap.
Thank you
anyone know about this?

That was the first thing I tried (as stated in my post). That way and through settings.
I think its hardware related. They are going to send a new one. New questions though..
I reset with Odin. Would ATT notice that it previously was rooted? (aka is my warranty still valid)

out of the blue, whilst playing my gameboid emulator, phone started vibrating and rebooted. now i can not get into any of my phones data or files, all i get is a black screen, quick glimpse of my homescreen (correct times and up to date messages being received) more vibrating, then another black screen with more vibrating and a quick glimpse of my homescreen. this process continues in a loop for as long as it wants, or until i take my battery out.
my phone was one of the unfortunate bunch that got dispatched from orange that can't access recovery mode.
don't really want to send it back to orange because its rooted, so just wondering if there is any way of doing a factory reset, or any other solution to the problem would be highly appreciated.
thanks, tom.
please help i really dont want to send it back to orange
I would reinstall the stock firmware. I mean do you have a custom rom in your phone as this is all happening? If so, reinstall that rom. But which ever you have, get into download mode by one of these two methods:
Turn off your phone, hold volume down, home button, and vomlume button all at once and at the same time.
Or
Take your battery out, hold volume down, home button, and power then reinsert the battery.
What you are trying to get is a yellow android that's digging. Once/if you get into download mode, use Odin to flash the stock firmware or any custom rom that is Odin compatiable.

but he doesnt have the 3 button combo.........
anyway there is a way to fix the 3 button combo, put it in the search bar.
if you wanna do a hard reset and see if that clears the problem type into the dialler *2767*3855#
ah i see. still worth a shot though. my other SGS phone (vibrant) had recovery disabled, but i could get into download mode by taking the battery out and reinserting it while holding volume down, home button, and power button.
PROBLEM
JUST FLASH NEW ROM VIA ODIN YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE short out..........................if I really help u plz click on thanks meter
So I've searched all over to try and figure this one out, but there's a lot of similar issues and none that I could find that are the same thing. The description might end up long because I want to be absolutely clear about what's happening (since there were a lot of really similar issues I found when I searched).
I have a Motorola Droid running CM 7 (.0.3, i think), but the problem was also there on the last version of CM I was running (6.something, probably). The first time I wiped and installed CM7 the problem seemed to be solved, but I screwed up the account setup and on the 2nd install the problem was back.
ANYWAY, the actual problem is this:
My phone's sound will NOT turn off. I can turn it all the way down with the volume rocker, and it will show the Vibrate icon, but the volume bar will not go down that last little bit. It does not vibrate. It does not go to silent. If I turn off sound from the lock screen, it doesn't do anything except show a vibrate icon at the top. The volume level remains the same. Same goes for the sound toggle on the home screen menu. It just doesn't do anything except change the icon to vibrate, silent, whatever.
The only way I can get it to go to silent/vibrate is through the Sound menu in settings. Even then, I can't just check the Silent Mode box, I have to go to the volume dialog box and manually drag it all the way to zero. Then, if I hit volume up on the rocker or turn the sound up in any other way, I have to go back to Settings to change it again.
I'm going crazy trying to solve this. I've wiped my phone. It doesn't seem like a hardware issue since everything is working except the switch to vibrate/silent from sound-on mode. I've tried everything I can think of. I've had the phone for almost 2 years now, and I'm generally good at fixing this type of thing, or at least finding the answer on Google. Has anyone had this issue?

A good way to try and debug the issue would be to install Widgetsoid 2.x(https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jim2&feature=search_result) and place a switcher on your homescreen with the different sound options such as silent and vibrate. Then, toggle those switches and see if your status bar icon changes, and if the phone is actually in vibrate or silent mode.
If that doesn't work then I would suggest to try another ROM, or perhaps it's a hardware issue.
Thanks, I'll try that and let you know the results.
Go to Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Sound -> Silent State (check)
On my old phone, when I received a phone call I did not want to answer. I would press the power button and this would silence the phone and turn off the vibrate.
Today, I received a phone call while my phone was in silent mode so it only vibrated. I pressed the power button and the phone kept on vibrating. Does anyone know if this is normal?
I installed GingerVolt 1.2 when I got the phone so I'm not sure if this is a general problem or a GingerVolt specific problem.

Hi guys... I've been having a couple of problems whith my Captivate...
1.- Power button doesn't work.... Is there a solucion to wake the phone up whith a volume key?? Or any alternative..(?)
2.- When the phone is turned off, it shows the battery status, but it's not conected to the charger and nothing... I just put the battery on the and it shows as if it were charging... And I cannot access to the Recovery Mode to turn the phone on....!!!! I just can acces to the Download Mode, but not to recovery.
I hope you can understand my bad English

this just happened to me. i was running miui at the time. if you can get miui onto your phone it has an option in button settings to use the volume rocker to turn the screen on. then i used the lock button in the notification bar to turn it off. also used a widget on the lockscreen via widgetlocker to turn the screen off so i could just turn it on to check the time/sms/email notifs real fast then turn it right back off. it took a bit getting used to the new process but hey, it worked. i ended up calling att about it and they said i still had 6 days left on my warranty so i went and exchanged it. att gives you 1 year warranty with a new captivate purchase. there may be a mod or something somewhere that allows for button reassignment. button savior maybe.
2:
not sure about that one
Is your cappy rooted? What ROM are you using? Or is it stock? I had the same problem with my experimental captivate I bought on eBay. I found a way to remap the volume button to wake the phone. This will make it a bit of a hassle to change the volume, but it was not a big deal for me since it was my experimental phone.
Off the top of my head the best way to get into recovery mode with bad buttons would be to flash a kernel or ROM that has an extended power menu.

Just remembered theres an app in the market called quick boot. It says you can boot into recovery with it but I haven't tried it. There may be other apps that do the same.

Hello guys! Merry Christmas to everyone!
Please, any ideas how to get unstuck from power saving mode?
I have the 10 pro, 2213, OxygenOs 13 and I was short on battery when I decided to activate the power saving mode.
Now, my phone wont get out from this powersaving mode even though it is charged , plugged in the ac adapter or after rebooting and shutting it down.
On my notification panel, I only have a few power toggles that cannot go in the settings menu if long pressed.
There is no notification message to disable power saving mode. I'm fully charged and still the power saving mode is on.
Knock on is not working and multitask button isn't as well. Home button sometimes work and sometimes does not. I really wish to get out of this powersaving mode as I had my phone looking up only for 3G network to maximize battery plus the other annoyances mentioned....
I recorded a video to show this behaviour.
Any Ideas? thank you all!

Hi I noticed you just swiped down don't know if you're aware you can swipe down further and the settings icon should appear. Try that I don't own a Oneplus 10 Pro well I haven't received it yet should arrive tomorrow but I keep seeing problems with this phone I'm considering on returning it. But I think you can swipe down further at least that's what I can do on Oneplus 7T Pro. Hopefully this may help you.

HI, mate. Well, I cannot swipe further down to expand the notification panel. Anyway, the settings icon should appear at the top right portion even if you don't swipe twice.. :/
Attached is a screen shot of the notification panel while in normal condition...
I'm sorry to say, but I cannot recommend this phone. If you can get a s22u or pixel for a similar price, I'd definitely go for it. I have a long list of complaints and suggestions about software on this device.. I previously had the s10+ for a happy 3 years

Sorry, but how can I do it? I Googled but found out only a method that no longer works on OxygenOs 13... (shutdown menu and long pressing shutdown). Could not find it how elsewhere... Such an important information should be more easily available
Can you get to settings..? Sorry you can't just seen that in video
You can always go into fastboot... go to recovery and format...start all over

I can't... Tapping on settings icon will bring up a blank screen for a split second before closing automatically. Long pressing power toggles will say "not supported action"

yeah.. But since I'm about to go out for dinner and I am going to work tomorrow morning, I really do not want to configure all apps and everything again in a rush.. If this is my only solution, I'm selling my OP this week
Press and hold the power button.
Tap and hold the "Power off" option.
Normally a new popup menu should appear on your screen that asks you to “Reboot to safe mode”. Answer “OK” at this point and let your phone reboot in Safe Mode.

Maybe this might work. When you swipe down tap on battery icon and it should take you to battery settings, again I don't have your phone but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I tried getting to recovery, but got a Recovery written in chinese....... ( wasnt the 2213 supposed to be global or european model?). Anyway, I translated the options and there was only Format Data, Reboot and Shutdown.

Update!
I was able to boot on safe mode. Then, my phone presented me correctly the Super Power Saving Screen and I was able to disable it!
Safe mode steps on OOS13:
Once your device has been powered off, long press the power button to turn it back on and wait till you see the device manufacturer or the Android logo.
Once you see the logo, press and hold the volume down button until your device reboots.
Release the power button once your device has rebooted and you will now be entered into the safe mode.

What happened:
Saturday 24th I activated the power saving mode when I was 5%. The phone died and later when I turned it on, it was on SUPER POWER SAVING MODE without being on the "Super power saving launcher". Instead, somehow it was on my NOVA LAUNCHER while being on super power saving mode, as shown on the video...... So I was not able to disable it or access any configuration. My phone was on Do not disturb, good night mode, 3G network locked...
I tried booting to safe mode, but instead I got to a Recovery screen written in chinese ( isn't this phone supposed to be global or European? model 2213) a few times.
This bug was seriously weird and should be investigated by oneplus. Such thing cannot happen!
Thank you all for your time and your help! Very much appreciated!
