How hard is it to change the Xperia housing?

Hi,
I'm asking for some guidance from the people who have actually changed their housing on the Xperia.
I bought a silver one with some cracks, and some marks on the housing. However, €60 for a brand new black housing would be a good deal for me, as long as I would manage to replace it succesfully.
I changed the housing on my SE P1i from the silver one to a black one before, and already found that quite hard, and now that I've seen the instruction video and read the service manual on how to change the housing, I'm a bit hesitant about replacing it, in the fear that I would break my new €200 smartphone.
So, have any of you done this, how hard was it, and how much experience did you already have dis- and reassembling phones?
Also: Did any of you manage to break anything in the process?

I changed a lot of phone houses and the one of xperia is easyer than nokia ones. if you follow the instructial movie on youtube you will not have any problem there are some dificult places.

80 Dollar is the market price i think the cheaper ones are used or not originaly SE housing.

thanks for the reply, now its quite a dilemma which one I should buy, the used one is 43AUD while the new one is almost 100AUD. Is the new one really worth it? The used one description says its fascia while the 100AUD is OEM. any suggestion would be great. thanks

I did buy a new housing for 80$ and i did get buy a hard case for preventing it getting scratches.
so what did you do, you gonna give it a try?

80$ for housing, it must be gold housing to be charged at the price,
seriously, checkout ebay, amazon they offer lots cheaper.
i would pay $20 for housing only

Ive done a few already, not too hard if you know what you doing and be careful.

It's quite easy if the housing fits well, the cheap housing does not fit very well....

hey guys... i dont really want to change my housing cause its more or less 100%...
HOWEVER i have a slight problem with the screen not being tight (mate has the black one and apparently they dont have the problem - and i can feel his one doesnt move a mm when its extended... whereas mine has a slight give)
whats the best method to tighten it?
(will it be obvious when i pry it apart?)

I had the same problem. after i changed mine housing and made it black it was gone. maybe the black ones are a little bit better

The silver is so much nicer looking thou
the black looks weird with a silver kb

yhea i have to admit the keyboard looks weird but the front is black and that looks weird on the silver one. so you have to make a choice. people see the front first and that makes the impression

Replacement G1 / Dream Cover

I have looked far and wide for a replacement cover for the G1 / Dream. It is fairly easy to find replacement battery covers, however finding the front cover replacements is another story.
To specify, I am referring to the plastic surrounding the LCD, the plastic surrounding the Menu, Home, Trackball, Back and End Buttons AND the battery cover ideally.

Ok I need help finding one of those black thingys that goes behind the back cover on my G1, I dont know what its called but when I take it out the phone turns off and it has three gold thingys on it. I tried looking allll over the interwebz for it but I cant find it anywhere. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

i am having trouble trying to picture what youre talking about.

My only camera is the G1 and it if I take out the black thing it turns off so I cant take a picture of it. It is square and black and has some writing "HTC Innovations", I really hope you can help me cuz I am going mad looking for one of these black things on the world wide interwebs.

Colored Battery Covers

Anyone have any shots of their Incredible with the white battery cover on and the red one? Im contemplating getting one or the other and then a battery from Amazon. Just cant decide and I cant picture either one on the phone. If you can Id like to see front, sides, and back shots.

I don't have photos readily available of mine, however, I have an android green, white and red w/ carbon fiber battery cover. It really is a toss up between the red and white. They look great!

I did this for my fiance. Not the video, but I copied the idea. Griffin Reveal case with White back cover, makes for a nicer transition in colors rather than black and white split right down the center. Looks really nice. The rubber sides are stiff enough so the phone doesn't slide out and the frosty back keeps the case looking nice even if you get scratches on it.
Start at 2:54 if you want to skip to the phone in case. Without the case the red back looks better IMO.

I'm going to have my paint department match the color and have them spray it at work then i will put it all together. I'm still waiting on them to ship it though.
i will post pics when i get ready to do it all.

after emailing them they send me a tracking number. should have it today or tomorrow.

Post pics of the thing when it's done.

The carbon fiber i bought was a pre cut piece i found on ebay. Each piece peeled off a sheet and had adhesive to apply to the battery cover. I put it on a red cover.

Has anyone tried any of the numerous replacement housings from eBay? I don't want to put a link to a specific seller... but if you search "htc incredible housing" you'll get a slough of results.
I'm always a bit hesitant to purchase non OEM pieces for any phone... but some of the housings look pretty decent.

I purchased the metallic red battery cover which was non-oem and generally good quality. It wasn't perfect, but it was much better than most non oem products I've tried.
However my one complaint about it is that it makes the phone more slippery. It makes it harder to keep in your hand. Otherwise it looks and works great.

I looked at them, but you have to remove one of the screws on the front housing that has a void sticker on it. As soon as you remove that your warranty is over.

That is what a needle (removal) and a drop of glue (re-applying) is for.

Does anyone still have an Inc under warranty?
Plus, replacement phones are like... $160 on eBay...

full faceplates/covers for s5830

Im living in australia, and ive been searching on Ebay for a white faceplate to replace my black one. They have them but they are from Hong Kong and you need Paypay, which i dont have. BASICALLY.. the question im asking is, Does anyone know of a place where i can get a white one.. OR maybe even something a bit better? Seen so many good faceplate replacements in so many Variations for iphones.. Glow in the Dark, Leather, All sorts of Metals, Mirrors.. but NOTHING can be found for my poor s5830..
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

I have a white one that came with the phone. But when I put it on, there's no point since the front is still black :/

yeah i know the one your talking about i got the same thing.. that is just a Battery Cover What i am after is a replacement for the Front, and side panels and also the back battery cover. They are called " Faceplates, Or Housings "
You have to disassemble the phone using specific tools and a certain method of disconnecting plugs and stuff to get it done, but you take the phone down to the base parts.. then assemble it together in a new housing
Cost roughly between $30 - $60 depending on where you get them from, you need Paypal to purchase them over ebay, which i dont have.. !

I have changed a screen, and my phone work perfectly.

lol yeah it seems easy to change the faceplates on the s5830, its about 3 screws and a few plugs. i STILL cant find any in australia, or overseas pays with credit card !? OR ANYTHING.. just not paypal !

Replacement screen/bezel assembly?

I managed to ding up my watch pretty bad crashing my skateboard and haven't been able to find any parts for the G Watch R. Does LG sell parts for it or am I stuck scanning ebay for a replacement housing?

ATM there are no spare parts available, We will see those slowly coming to market eventually.
Can you post a picture so I can see the problems? It's ruined that bad that it cannot be repaired?

It is just cosmetic, screen and device are fully functional. I'm very impressed with the durability, as I was going 20+mph and fell with all my weight on it

File the top of the bezel down smooth. It will look better and be a uniform gray circle on the bezel.

Looks great. I've seen another post about how to sand it down which came our really nice, but this looks amazing. How did you get it that beautiful and flawless glossy surface?

I used a higher grit sanding sponge until all the paint and imperfections were gone, then followed up with 3000 grit from auto zone. Used Mothers polishing cream to finish it off

If people were willing to ship their watches to me I'd be more than happy to. Though I don't think the finish will last too long as it doesn't have a clear coat on it

What about fixing a cracked screen any ideas still can't find any parts
