If you clean any corroded connections from the water damage then i would say your odds are good but theres no way to know without trying it.

Ok thanks for that one.I just don't want to take a chance and buy the phone and it turns out the screen is useless.
I will just wait and hope I can find a cheap working one.
Thanks for the reply bud!
Basically I have a phone in my possession which has experienced water damage. I am not sure what is/isn't broken. I know the phone powers up because the lights on the keypad come on. I don't have any picture or backlighting though and I know the cables are connected because I tore the phone down and put it back together.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to if the LCD was actually working? My guess is that it is pooched.
if you for some reason have 2 captivates, you can hook up the water damaged LCD to your working captivate, otherwise if you are unable to get any picture / lighting from the LCD, then its broken hardware. when phones are water damaged, the first things to stop working is the digitizer then wifi / phone signal then the LCD . I would advise selling your phone to a person who has damaged / missing casing. For example, my camera lens is cracked on my developing captivate, and I am trying to get my hands on a replacement. anyways, hope I helped.

Been trying to get my hands on a working captivate but I seem to always be second on the list in the WTS forums!
Hello guys have a problem with my htc vivid's(have 2 of them)!
To start the story with i got a cracked vivid phone from ebay and thought of replacing the screen, i also got a digitizer from some hong-kong seller, the screen arrived and i looked up some videos on youtube and fixed the screen myself, everything seemed to have gone fine, but when i switched on the phone after replacement the bottom half of the screen would not work! only the top hald of the screen worked, i assumed it was a faulty digitizer and ordered another digitizer!
Meanwhile i got another vivid off ebay, this was also a damaged one ( the seller told the LCD was dimming but digitizer was working) so i thought of replacing its LCD and got it off, this phone also arrived so i had one phone with bad digitizer and other with bad LCD i ordered an LCD also so b4 it arrives i thought i would change the digitizer from the bad LCD phone to the bad digitizer phone so i will have one complete working phone!
When i started to open the bad LCD phone i realised it was a water damaged phone, but the digitizer was fine so i removed its digitizer carefully and put onto the bad digitizer phone and switched it on, but again the same problem! top half woking bottom half not working! so i thought ill change the motherboard of the bad digitizer phone with the bad LCD phone and after doing that the digitizer would not work at all!!
i dunno what to do now i dunno where im going wrong any sort of help or duggestions would be greatly appreciated, and if you guys are having hard time understanding any part of the story let me know will try to explain that part as clearly as possible, thanks in advance! hope i get ou of this problem soon
Are you sure that both motherboards were in working order.? I would suspect the motherboard you installed is faulty...is that motherboard the one which was on the waterdamaged phone? If it were me I would put the motherboard back in that at least had the screen half on and then troubleshoot from there....I've replaced a few screens but not enough to give a good resolution...I would proceed by process of elimination on components you know, for sure, are working before you install them...and its totally plausable that a new replacement part can be faulty...I'm not sure man, just my two cents worth...I would scour xda for others who have had screen issues..one post probably won't fix your particular issue but a few different ones might...ill look too and post link if I find something...

The very right side edge of the screen isnt working on my wifes phone. Is it a hardware issue? or just in need of recalibration? Known issue? Thanks
It's a hardware issue. The digitizer is going bad. There are posts about people "repairing" them with hair driers and ovens. You can also buy a replacement on ebay and attempt to replace it.
Hey! I got the same issue on my A853 Milestone (ghost touch, then some parts of the screen not working anymore). The problem is not necessarily on the digitizer. I suggest you to disassemble the phone and to verify the integrity of the flex cable. Mine was very used and I made the same mistake - I spent money on a new digitizer without checking the other component. So, first check that then buy the right part. Good luck! Best wishes from RO!
Not so sure what has happened this time around. I have never dropped my phone substatially, and I keep a solid case and screen protector on my phone at all times. I dropped it last night from about a foot onto hardwood floor, and he screen didn't crack at all. But it seems as if something internally went on, and the colors are all blurred on the screen. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know!! I am out of warranty so I will cost me an arm and a leg to get it fixed by HTC or Sprint. Thanks guys
The digitizer internally broke youll need a replacement or someone to replace digitizer
Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks so much! Appreciate it man
Hey they connection could have came loose aswell, but id definately assume digitizer if the screen isnt cracked
