Changing product code without root? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, is there a way of changing product code without rooting. I have a KOR product code, but I want a generic UK code, which I think is XEE. If someone can guide me, please do. Any help is much appreciated.

you don't do it on the phone
you do it on Kies
then after you flash, it gets transplanted from the ROM via Kies into your phone

I too was changed to KOR when I did my very first Odin flash with my SGS. Here's how you can change it back to your original country/product/sales code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163
Hopefully, your current firmware supports the "automatic method" indicated in the thread.
Remember: After you do this procedure, your phone will reboot and do a factory reset. SO PLEASE BACK UP ALL DATA FIRST.

Unlocked phone and updating software

Hi guys, im new here and I just got my phone having switched from a 9700. I work for Rogers so im not stupid when it comes to phones yet im a virgin when it comes to android...
My question is, if I have unlocked my captivate so that it works with Telus, will any type of sw update relock my phone forcing me to purchase unlock code again?
Would some relock it and some wont?
Im aware this is probably a very basic question but I would appreciate it if you humored me and enlightened me

Well if you have unlocked using the free unlock method you should already have your unlock code so you can write it down somewhere and if it happens to lock the phone after the update you can just enter the same unlock code. I believe the code does not change after an update.
Yes, I kept the code, I asked because I was worried somehow the code would change. Thanks, I guess I got my answer.

[Q] unlock sim network for samsung captivate 2.1

needed sim unlock code for samsung captivate...my imei [mod edit - don't post your IMEI number]..
Please use the search button
Please use the search functionality before posting.
There are so many threads already!
One is here
Not a good idea to post your damn imei on the fuggin interwebs either.
Yeah, gotta agree with zombie. It would be the same as posting your social security.
There are apps that do this. Just remember to BACK UP your EFS folder. Like back it un phone and computer and w/e other place. If your EFS folder gets jacked up you probably lost your IMEI and you will need to send to to someone to rebuild it.
Sory bout imei....m new here...

Hi unlocking via unlock code will be the safe way to unlock your mobile..you can try Superunlockcodes to get unlock code for your Samsung SGH-I897 Captivate and get it unlocked..

You know that method cost a good chunk of cash and almost always requie to send them your IMEI.... Just all kinds of wrong. In theory you can ask ATT to do it and will probably just be cheaper safer. OR get root and use the app. My phone is unlocked no issues

[Q] BL + sim unlock

Hi guys,
I have a question about bootloader unlocking. I know it doesn't unlock the carrier, so I've contacted Three UK and they're obtaining a code for my Xperia X8 that I bought on PAYG which will be £15.34 and can take up to 2 weeks.
My question is that if I go ahead and unlock the bootloader so that I can put newer kernels in (and therefore newer ROMs), will it remove the unlock code they gave me in any form, or will my phone always stay unlocked?
Also, if it goes back to locked, can I use that same code from Three and just unlock it again?
Thanks guys.
Also, I assume if anything goes wrong I can use the Pc Companion to practically wipe back to manufacturers kernel/rom/BL/settings?
You guys can't keep posting the Same question.
Anyway, your phone will get locked original network

I believe if you use code to unlock SIM you' ll have phone same as one that was never locked. And none of your actions should lock it again.
It would be nice if somebody experienced confirm this, though.

I didn't intend to ask the same question again. I did use the search so I apologise if it's already been asked but I'd love a definitive answer.
My guess is that either way, my IMEI will stay the same of course so in theory the same code could be used numerous times on the phone regardless. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I think I understand from your post that after unlocking BL it'll revert to original carrier lock? Same code or?

Back in the days when Nokia N95 8gb was top, I used x-sim to unlock my device/s. Now we have a law that forbids the companys to lock their devices.
Count this post as a bump ;]
