Hi,
I was wondering if anyone encountered this issue i'm having. I flashed docs jpm (froyo)which worked great for 3-4 days with 0 issues. I installed some apps, fb, twitter etc. then suddenly out of nowhere the hardware buttons on the bottom of the phone are do not work properly sometimes.
The list button will be lit, the return button is not, and when I click on the home button it makes the picture taking sound. I leave the phone for a minute or two, then it is back to normal. This is driving me crazy!!! Anyone know if this would be a firmware issue or hardware?
Thanks guys!
Henry
I had the exact same thing but only when the phone was hot i.e. After charge or while using it a lot. It was a hardware issue. I had the phone replaced. Try to put it in the refregerator a couple minute when it does that and see if it goes away.

Weird, mine never gets hot. I'm going to call bell and get a replacement then.
flash back to eclair, there is no i9000m specific froyo rom. if you experience these issues on an official canadian rom, then you have a reason to be concerned. a bunch of people have had issues with the jpm/jp6 froyo release...........though mainly sd card issues, not this.
I just flashed back to stock eclair and it seems to be working for far. Ill update here if it stops working.

I have a stock N1, updated to Froyo. So every now and then, ever since I got the phone, the screen just stops responding when waking it up. Sometimes, the screen doesn't turn on at all, but the soft buttons light up. And the only way I've found to fix the problem is to either restart the phone, or connect it to my USB.
Was wondering if it's a hardware or software issue?
same thing happening to me aswell...seems to be only since Froyo flash. Really crappy when you are trying to show off the phone and you have to reboot first. Im gonna mess around a bit tonight and see if I figure anything out...Im also not getting any trackball notifications... I think its software related, for now.
I can say it's not Froyo since I've had this problem before the update, unfortunately.

Ok some weird stuff going on for sure..
With CM 5.0.6 every couple days I would the keyboard would "uncalibrate", but the screen would never freeze up.
Since installing Froyo I am getting the freezing and unresponsive screen at least once a day.
Lets hope my it is not my screen getting worse. Ill have to flash back to CM 5.0.6 and see if I still get freezing.
Bye bye Froyo, see you in a couple days!!
So...anyone else with this issue pre-Froyo?
ive never had my nexus freeze, then i flashed froyo and that day it froze for about a minute, now it has done the hard sleep thing and it does it more times per day each subsequent day.
I know that we have an early "test" version of froyo so this stuff isnt grave, but since there seem to be groups of people experiencing different issues, i also wonder if its possible that specific apps can cause problems unrelated to the app since they arent really ready for froyo...is that possible and does anyone know of apps to beware of? not so much apps that dont work but apps that cause other problems?
Edit: my phone is stock by the way
i used to have a lot of problems when i switched from landscape to portrait mode with the calibrations but since ive put on 2.2 that problem is long gone and i have no other issues...
I had shocking touchscreen issues on 5.0.6, to the point where the phone was unusable and I had to reboot or pull the battery. Turning the screen off and on using power button would work occasionally but not always. Unfortunately I am still having the occasional problem on froyo. I had some mates trying to troubleshoot for me and took a few logs, the recurring error was (CM 5.0.6):
I/InputDevice( 117): Dropping bad point #1: newY=176 closestDy=3401 maxDy=2779
I haven't taken a log while on froyo
Thanks for the input, fellas. Sounds like it's a more apparent issue in this test release of Froyo. I've had the issue since before flashing the update, with stock 2.1, but it's sounding like it's software related and nothing actually wrong with my phone. Guess I won't bother contacting HTC haha
I have been having this weird problem for over a month now.
Virtual Button gets stuck as if im touching it rapidly. it happens randomly too. for example, after a reboot i was using xda app. After hitting "back" button, its button backlight goes off and doesnt respond. Everything else still works but the button gets stuck like that for 20second.
Sometimes when im watching a movie without hording it, quick option pops up as if i have pressed the button next to home button.
anyone else with this issue???
I have 2.1 stock rom uptodate with kies, ryan lag fix, and realook screen protector on it.

This just started happening to me (literally 15 seconds ago) and I want to find out what's going on.
+1
same thing happens to me. But after pressing the central button, the buttons reappear. strange weird
I do not install any lagfix or change the rom, I have my Samsung Galaxy S as a wine factory
I just started to have exactly the same issue with my Vibrant.
Any follow up on this?
Well, one thing i wanna ask you guys is that how many apps do you have installed on your system? Im actually having less of this symptom these days as i have uninstalled dozens of software. Not sure if that was the issue tho.

I deleted few apps which I installed in last few days and so far so good....but its just few minutes of use yet!
Specifically deleted "Noled".
Still getting lag with BACK button. Though it happens once or twice a day....very weird!
I have been using Samsung Vibrant for 3 months now and this problem just started two days back.
I'm having problems with buttons going off by themselves now. Browsing the internet or writing a message, the menu pops up by itself; Its annoying and its starting to get worse. I'm starting to wonder if I should trade in my phone; this is my third phone.
// galaxy s
I too have this exact same issue with my i9000m. Stock rooted rom with voodoo lagfix. Uninstalled everything, factory reset, clear cache, unroot - nothing fixes it. I have a replacement phone on backorder that will be replaced no questions asked thankfully.
Sounds like it's a somewhat common problem.
now this is getting irritating! seems like an issue with only Bell version I9000M. Couldn't find this problem any where else on web.
did a hard reset and before loading any apps..... played around with phone and found the same lag with back button!
After looking at your replies, it seems like these two factors are causing this strange button lag:
+Bell Mobility
+2.1 Éclair
Can we confirm please? Are you all using Bell & 2.1 with the issue?
Hopely Froyo can fix this issue. My phone was alright for couple of weeks but it came back worse than ever!
I’m starting to hate Samsung more than ever for the lag of updates & lies.
it might be only with some phones
i'm on i9000m as well, 2.1 stock, but i do not have the button problem you guys are describing.

AllGamer, I think you're the lucky one when it comes to your Galaxy. I'm curious if this issue happens to phones running custom roms or the official froyo release.
On stock firmware i9000m and OCLF with root. Im getting a huge lag (10-15 seconds) whenever I hit my home button. Using launcher pro but the problem only popped up yesterday.
Checked watchdog and it only shows 4mb free BUT task manager shows 65mb free. Any thoughts?

You're not the only ones with the issue. Look at this guy using a Bell SGS on youtube (apologies if this is one of you guys )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBe0txXobwY
Also, its not just the Bell SGS, my AT&T Captivate does it on the Menu key and its very very annoying. Theres a similar thread in the captivate forum and no doubt, on in every SGS forum as they all use the same touch panel.
If its very common, which seems to be the case, could it be related to dust ingress into the touch panel?
Disabled Quickdesk (glcery handy app), left the office early, and now everything works great. Not sure which one worked....
I was getting a black screen for 5-10 seconds every time i pressed the home button. Anyone else with quickdesk issues? Suggestions?

I factory reset my phone and then un-rooted it just for the sake of testing out some ideas. It didn't help at all and the problem persisted for awhile until I found something interesting;
If you are having the buttons 'stick' or malfunction, go to recovery mode via 3-button. Once you are in there, start pressing your soft keys (I did this for 10 minutes straight when my buttons were sticking).
Tell me how your buttons respond, do they stick or not? We could determine if it's software or hardware.

I thought the buttons didnt respond in recover mode...
They light up and respond to touches; if you press the menu key it actually removes and restores the recovery screen.

So I just got my replacement I9000m from bell a few days ago, 10-11, and I keep getting this weird bug where no matter what screen or app I'm in, the menu screen randomly pops up as if I pressed the menu button, nd its quite annoying. The phone came with JL2 installed, nd I I just flashed seeARMs rom today just to see if it might go away but it hasn't. Its not very frequent but it is fairly annoying. Not sure if any one also experienced this, but any help would be sweet!
No one have this problem? Its so annoying to have it happen all the time lol
Ok so I just encountered the strangest glitch ever on my phone. I was in my text messages and all of a sudden my phone kept vibrating and I noticed that the hone button led was flashing as if I was touching it but I wasn't so it takes me home. Has anyone encountered this before? Its happeneded to me once on my old captivate but not as often as on this refurbished running stock jh7

I had this happen once, with the first rom I flashed, but mine was the search button doing it. All I did was flashed to a new rom and I was fine.i may have been on cog when it happened, but not sure.I've been running fine on serendipity 4.3 though

In fact, I sent my old Cappy back in the mail today for this very reason! Did the warranty process. Mine did it ever since I got it(4 months or so). It was very intermittent. What made me finally have it replaced, was when I didn't wake up on time for work because as my alarm was going off, the home button was "pushed" and it silenced my alarms..... Can't have that happening.
Anyways, now I have a refurb and haven't had the problem in the 3 days that I have had it.
Good luck man, but my suggestion is, if you are still within warranty, get that sucker replaced!

Thanks, Yeah, i just encountered another strange issue, i plugged my phone in was transferring music, and unplugged (did the proper steps), it then told me that my internal storage was corrupted. rebooted and now its fine.
Its happening more often on this phone (the button glitches). Its kind of annoying me now. If it continues im going to have to call att again or go to a store and take it.

The home button thing happened to me - on my first replacement phone. I immediately got a replacement for the replacement. I highly recommend you do the same.
Happened to me too, got the phone replaced BC the captacive buttons went crazy and the phone was nearly unusable. I had zero issues having it replaced too, just go to an att repair center.

This is something I to an curious about it has been happening to me for a couple of weeks but it is the magnify glass search button. It will randomly click its self. I thought it might be a problem with my screen protector but even after changing it I am still experiencing the problem

I have the same problem when I am running stock firmware with the "Search" softkey. It's quite annoying. I guess I just gotta stick with Andromeda.
probably it is a rom issue. try another rom.
This started happening to me right after I flashed Perception 10.2 and Firebird 0.4 kernel. It never happened before that. It has persisted through all Firebird kernels since then.
I even caught it happening once on the "back" button, but only once. It happens on the Home button at least once a day, usually more than once.
I have a samsung captivate. It is a early model, I got it the day they became available. The phone will not always answer an incoming call. the green answer button comes up but will not swipe. Anyone else have this problem? Will froyo cure this?
Youre gonna need to add some more info....
are you on stock 2.1?
if you did flash a custom Rom which one and which kernel/ modem are you using?
Did you do a restore with titanium? (this is where I had problems when I flashed)
captivate wont answer incoming calls Sometimes
yes complete stock, no mods whatsoever
I had a problem like this when I first got my Captivate as well. My problem was that it wouldn't swipe all the way across the screen. This got very frustrating while driving. The solution, surprisingly, was to make sure my hands weren't completely dry. Without traction on the screen my phone didn't register my fingers.
I don't know if that'll help but there are also other dialers out there on the market that you can try legitimately without rooting or flashing a different ROM (if you're trying to avoid doing those things).
I would do a flash back to stock and do a master clear to rule out any software issues. You can do this without having to root. You just wont be able to back up your apps and system config.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
It is and always has been completly stock.
Are you rooted? I had this problem every now and then... not very often.. I figured it was due to one of the apps I was running in the background, that was sucking up all the RAM and the phone became unresponsive. I backed up my apps, and flashed stock and then restored only the ones I absolutely wanted... I am sorry, I dont remember which app it was, just know that it was a background process that was collecting some kind of stats! Hope that helps!
By the way how long ago did this start happening?

i had a similar problem even tho i had a custom rom my incoming calls didnt come in at all.i had to Reflash my rom.. idk how similar this situation is but i agree with the other guys.. try reflashing stock
phone is not rooted. I cant tell you how long it has been happening but it appears to be more frequent as of late. The one thing I can ad, when it does it, it may do it several times in a row
Thank you guys for helping the newb.. I appreciat the input!
I occasionally get the same problem on my SGS even before rooting

The time it took you to go back and forth on this forum, you could have flashed back to stock and master clear to troubleshoot. The problem isn't going to fix itself.

Thanks for all the HELPFUL input
I will try flashing stock
This may be a common sense answer but usually when it doesnt swipe all the way accross for me its because of to much grease ( or sweat) on my hands or on the screen like after lengthy phone calls or if my hands are dirty or something. Try cleaning the screen well, and washing your hands and such. Always fixed for me.
by swipe do you mean it doesnt move at ALL or it goes half way or you cant get it all the way to the other side to answer?
Yeah, i know that when i first turn on my phone and try swiping, nothing will happen, it will just stay green and not respond. After leaving my phone on for a couple of minutes, it usually corrects itself.
This is also a common problem for stock users wanting to use a lockscreen replacement (i.e. widgetlocker).
If you try using widgetlocker without any lagfix, you can get phone call screens you can't interact with for a few seconds.
I have had a similar issue both stock and rommed. I find a lot of time it does have something to do with friction on the screen but also if I have low signal it will happen as well. My phone will actually freeze up to the point of having to remove the battery, this same thing happened on my old Samsung Blackjack II.
